If you are thinking of using this facility, I suggest you visit first. I stayed there over a week and the place is a complete dump. I am not sure how they pass state inspection because it needs to be torn down. The building is filthy most of the time. Housekeeping never cleans patient bathroom toilets and sinks. They have one private room, most of their patient rooms are shared by two, three or more patients. There is no air conditioning or ventilation system in patient rooms. The rooms are hot and stuffy. Patients are yelling at night along with the front door alarm sounding throughout the night. The nurses and CNAs have a bad attitude and are lazy. The food is horrible, no taste and is usually served cold. The place is just like being in a prison. In addition many times the building smells like shit. Many times if you request a shower, you are ignored. read more

The fact that they allow their patients to be in pain because they are short staffed is unbelievable and unacceptable. That's the response I received from the nurse in charge today. My cousin called me in tears due to her pain and had been requesting pain medication since 8:00am and she called me at 10:30 in tears due to the pain and the sheer lack of accountability at this facilities shows to their patients. This is not how recovery should be handled. The fact that they are short staffed should not affect the level of service that's provided to the patients. Bay Crest is the pits from hell. My husband was admitted almost two weeks ago fir physical therapy, as of 3/27/2026 No therapy and the doctor has written discharge orders fir 4/01/2026. The therapist confirmed my husband can only stand for 20 to 30 seconds and has not tried walking. He only has been up twice in the wheelchair. Stayed on the bed pan for 3 hours, they answer the light after 4 or 5 hours, forgot his breakfast yesterday, no apology or snack offered, luckily I had taken him food the night before, morning care after 1 p.m. I want my husband home but I need to know can he walk, he was walking before. Yes, I have made several reports , no goal were set and none has been met, only discharge.please do not place your love ones there, it is heart breaking to see your love ones treated with disrespect, nursing being aggressive, food set on the table, when asked fir assistance they just walk away and refuse to give their name.I just want some therapy so I can run and get my husband out of there. She had a broken femur. They put her in the furthest room with 2 other women, both of whom were hacking up their lungs. The food was inedible. Disgusting. The machine they put her in to weigh her had her screaming in pain and bleeding from her wounds. The nurses were hard and careless. Totally unprofessional. She got a UTI from them which led to infection. Then of course, she got Covid from the sick people in her room. She was treated like crap bc of her insurance and just because this place SUCKS. She had to be put in isolation when she had Covid from that dirty place and when we could finally see her after 10 days, she was severely dehydrated and dying. My Father, God rest his soul lived his last moments here. When my family and I would come and visit we would leave with tears. Unfortunately due to his insurance he couldn't be at a qualified place. We would call for the nurses it would take over an hour just for them to answer the call light. And when someone eventually would come they always would respond with okay let me go find your CNA or someone to help you. Why would you come to answer the call light, just to not help? 2nd the place always had a foul odor due to patients not being cleaned. It wreaked of urine and feces. Rather if it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner the food trays would always come out late and cold. 90% of the time they would serve the tray with no drinks. Yes nothing to drink not even water. You can hear patients from down the hall screaming and yelling to no avail for help. As always no response. This would go on every time we would visit. None of the nurses are workers would greet my family or I with a smile or a simple hello. They walk by you with attitude and don't acknowledge you. You can ask them a simple question and as usual no answer. Just shrug shoulders. My family and I stopped using the facilities parking lot cause we would see nurses outside smoking marijuana. I complained to the administrator about this plenty of times. Several times when we visited my father he was soaked in his own urine and feces. I've made complaints of this as well. It's hard to believe that ANY review with more than one star is legit. Probably people who work there or friends of people who work there giving more than a one star rating. This place is a nightmare for the residents and their families. The staff DOES NOTcare for the residents and does the LEAST possible effort to keep them alive. My sister has been here since May 2021. This is where her insurance sent her. She is 49 years old, totally blind. She is paralized on her left side due to strokes caused by diabetes. Her right side moves but not purposefully. She is 100% dependent on the staff at bay crest. She sits for hours and hours in a urine soaked feces filled diaper. The few things she can do is press the call light to ask for help. But that doesnt matter because no one will answer the call light. She has ongoing skin infections due to the lack of diaper changes. She has rotten teeth now because she hardly ever gets her teeth brushed. The teeth are so rotten that they break off in her mouth while she is chewing her food. The list of horrific neglect is LONG. We had to let my sister be admitted to Bay Crest. Her insurance would not pay for other qualified facilities. She was there for physical therapy and to finish an aggressive antibiotic treatment. As soon as I walked into the place I knew that place was not the place my sister would get the best care. My sister and I both cried the first day I left her there. They missed a few doses of her antibiotics causing her to stay there 2 extra days suffering in there she lost so much weight the good was awful. Other patients screaming TVs are left on all night volume very load to the point my sister couldn't sleep. Nurses do not answer the patient's calls it took forever for the office to send a nurse to greet us . If I keep going this will turn into a book. Please if you can do take your loved ones there. The place is not clean. The only ones my sister was thankful for were the physical therapy staff who tried their best to help. This place gets a score of zero the health department should really investigate the place. I saw a bedridden patient that could not feed herself ignored and another patient screaming for pain medication. What a shame. read more

Well. I really wanted to like this place for my grandfather and I tried to be optimistic but unfortunately this is a really horrible facility. I have a lot of complaints, but I will stick with the two that are the most concrete. First, my grandfather came from the hospital to this facility with one stage one bedsore. After two weeks at this facility, he had three bedsores and one was so bad it couldn't be staged. No one told us he had additional bedsores until my grandfather went back to the hospital and the nurses told us there. I asked the nurses at the hospital if this could happen in three weeks with proper moving of the patient and they said no. So, it seems to me that this facility does not take the time to rotate and move patients who aren't mobile enough to do it themselves. The second concrete complaint I have about this facility is that they are not good at letting you know what is going on with your loved one. The doctor is so bad at getting back to you. It's difficult to get through to the nurses. No one updates you. It's truly horrible. Anyways, I know making these decisions are never easy. We wish we never brought my grandfather to this facility and maybe that can help someone else make their decision. read more

She was admitted there on 11/12/19 but I did not get a chance to visit her the first time until 11/16/19. She had already been there 4 days now and had not had any rehabilitation as she was admitted there to do. They said they tried but she was unwilling and/or unable to rehab and gave up. I let them know that they needed to be firm with her because she is a stubborn woman and not to let her dictate her own rehab so we can get her healthy again to come home. I stayed a while on 11/16 and realized they had not brushed her teeth "poor personal hygiene" while she had been there nor had they given anything to allow her to do so on her own. I had to go out and buy her toothpaste and a toothbrush. Amazingly when I returned they magically found a toothbrush and toothpaste. I proceeded to help my mother brush her teeth. I returned Monday 11/18/19 and had to bring more issues to their attention to be addressed because they had not done anything for mother. I had to prompt them to address her wound on her leg. They had not cleaned or cared for her wound once since she had been there. 6-7 days now. The PA on scene ordered another round of antibiotics because her leg looked infected. I MADE PT come over and get her up out of the bed and into a wheelchair and get her to rehab that day. There's more to that day but the last straw was when I came back on Friday the 22nd, I found my mom unresponsive and incoherent. I asked if her vitals were stable, they said "Yes". Then they checked her BP and it was 87/46. MY MOM WAS SEVERELY DEHYDRATED AND 911 HAD TO BE CALLED AND SHE WAS TAKEN TO TORRANCE MEMORIAL. SHE RECEIVED 3 LITERS OF FLUID AND HER BP WAS STILL LOW IN THE ER. My father noticed her that way the day before and called for a nurse. She was unresponsive to him and cold to the touch. I thought she had died. He went out to get a nurse, but no one would help him. I had to call the facility and yell at someone to get to her room and check if she was still alive. FINALLY someone came and checked on her. They said she was normal 2 hours before I showed up. I HAD to put her in shock position. I HAD to bring my mother's severity to their attention. She ended up with severe dehydration, c-diff, UTI, right leg wound infection, blood blister on left forearm, mark on face near left eye, bruise on neck near left clavicle. Found out later that she ALSO had two bilateral strokes. HAD SOMEONE ACTUALLY TAKEN CARE OF MY MOTHER, SHE WOULD NEVER HAVE GOTTEN THAT BAD!!!!!! My mom who is of sound mind and lives in her own home was placed here from UCLA Harbor hospital after she broke her femur, within 5days of her being in this facility we had to call the Torrance police for a wellness check! No one would answer the phones in a 24/7 facility and because my mom wasn't getting the proper care I felt unease about her safety! I also had to call for an ambulance to take her to the hospital for urine retention that she had for 3 days, she asked the facility to do it but they wouldn't until they heard from the doctor, she called me in tears and I called for the ambulance to pick her up as I drove 1.5 hours to meet her at hospital! We tried getting her placed somewhere else but the other facilities either were full or had covid, so we had to keep her here for 6wks. My family all took turns being with her through the morning till early evening and had witness so much mistreatment of my mom and other patients!! Like sitting in dirty diapers for 2-4hours, not getting showered , patients falling out of bed, incorrect medication dosage, CNA being rough with patients, absolutely incompetents with catheter bag, mom never saw a doctor even though they said he came by? They even tried to blame my mom for not being cooperative!! We called ombudsmen, public health and police, all said our complaints were valid! I just heard back from public health that this place is being fined! The report is also going to the State Department for further investigation. There were so many more issues that we finally took mom home to continue her treatment were she would be taken care of properly! Shout out to the PT employees who were awesome,especially Reza! CNA Jose, Jackie, Veronica and Maria for going out of their way to help us when they were there, LVN Tohra and LVN Andrew, all of you that I mentioned were very compassionate about helping the patients and are truly a testament to your profession!! My mom had been in another nursing facility when she broke her hip years before and received great treatment, which is why we were in shock of this place !!! Please don't place your family members here and if you have to drop in at all hours to see how things are going!! Reviews are not what they say. You need to see and hear in person to experience the facility. Staff are wonderful and very welcoming. The staffing is short but it's like that wherever you go it's a struggle for this healthcare workers. My aunt was there for weeks until she got better. Admissions process was quick and smooth, receptionists are welcoming, Rehab department is well experienced. If she has to go back definitely would come back here again. A family member of mine recently had to undergo a total knee replacement. The doctor recommended them to undergo physical therapy for rehab. We were a little hesitant but we decided to go with Bay Crest. This was honestly the best choice we could have made. The therapy team was phenomenal and the care was great. My aunt/godmother got transfered here after a stint at a gardena care center & the parking lot is just ridiculous, so small you have to revert to finding a parking spot in the local area. They had her in a small room with 2 other people, no air conditioning so the sun is beaming thru the window on her & because the building is so old and isnt kept up with the wiring is bad every outlet I tried to use didnt work at all so she was left with a dead phone. Besides all of that mostly all the nurses are careless. I'd reccomend that everyone look into this place if they find out a loved one is being transferred here & reach out to whoever they need to to get out of seeing your loved ones end up at a crooked unorganized facility like this one! read more

Visit all of your facility options before you choose. Don't rush into a decision. When in doubt, go to Sunnyside Don't admit on a Friday. There are no services on the weekend. No Admissions person. No Doctor. No "bath days". No Janitorial services, No PT, No OT, No Skin Care or Oral Care. Your loved one will have to lay in a bed, wearing a diaper, until Monday. No case manager or admissions person on weekends. Caregivers: Stay away from RN Rosslyn - she will say "no" to every request before you finish your sentence. Generally speaking, staff seems nice and caring enough. I was not impressed with anyone at this facility Physical Facility: Hallways smell like urine and smoke Dirty floors and walls No AC in facility - rooms have fans, all windows were open (windows open to street/parking lot) Outdoor patio area has a bunch of trash/junk Avoid visitor bathroom. I don't think they clean it Parking lot is always full (people even park on the fire lane), there is a lot of trash blocking several parking spaces Each bed had its own TV (adjustable) - some worked, our's didn't. BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE, BE PRESENT FOR YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS TO GET ANY CARE First 2 meals we saw had no vegetables. One meal on day 3 had canned green beans. Appropriate to give bedridden people a hot dog? Seems like a choking hazard to me. Not a wholesome meal for patients trying to get strong and go home. Specific incidents my loved one experienced: 1. I found him lying naked (with a diaper and sheet) when I visited one day. 2. He did not see a doctor in the first 24 hours 3. He did not get officially admitted until Day 4 4. He did not get a sponge bath until Day 3 5. He saw a PT and the PT said "non-weightbearing" so he was not allowed to get out of bed for 3 days - even for me to wheel him around in a wheelchair (and take him outside). He was there 4 days before we transferred him out, he did not have even 1 PT session. 6. If he didn't eat his food right away, it was moved over, far enough that he couldn't reach it if he decided he wanted it 7. 90-year old man and they didn't cut up his food for him or help him eat. Didn't ask any special help/needs or dietary restrictions until Day 3. Moved his food out of reach when he rejected it. 8. no activities were provided for brain stimulation or boredom until Day 3 - AFTER we asked and were rejected by Rosslyn. read more

My mother went in to get therapy for a head injury and fell off the bed tryin to go to the restroom because no one was there to help her. Who knows how long she had been on the floor before she was found. Instead of getting her a ct scan to check her head they requested X-rays for her back. They said she didn't hit her head but no one was there when she fell so how do they know her head wasn't hit. Daniel I don't know if he's a nurse or just the front the desk but he is no help and just gives you the run around. After a while they just stopped answering my calls. My mother was stuck here for just over a week, in conditions that are inhumane. I was unable to visit due to COVID-19 restrictions in place, however I spoke to her daily, multiple times a day, and was horrified by what I was told. She was initially placed in a room with a woman who had the TV on at top volume 24/7. My mom had to beg a staff member to turn it off at midnight when the other woman was sleeping. I called her one day to chat and was unable to hear what she was saying due to the volume of this TV. WHY is this permitted!? It's bad enough during daytime hours (when relatives cannot even visit and are forced to resort to phone calls only) but there absolutely needs to be a noise curfew in place. Everyone here is recovering from something or another and requires adequate rest. Ultimately something was done about the TV volume, however it created a temporarily uncomfortable situation for all involved. It is not fair to the patients, nor is it right, to make them force the issue. Do your JOB and create a more harmonious environment through some very basic rules and boundaries. Oh and speaking of boundaries! I also want to know WHY a MALE patient was able to wheel himself uninvited into my mother's room!? She also reported that he was watching her come out of the bathroom. What the actual hell - SEPARATE the male and female patients for privacy/modesty reasons - at the VERY LEAST!!! Furthermore, rules about personal space need to be put in place and made clear to everyone upon arrival. They did move her to a different room after she complained about the male patient's creepy behavior, except now she was placed in a room with a woman who hollered nonstop. The food here is garbage. Shouldn't be fed to anyone, let alone folks trying to recover from illness/injury - or are you trying to create permanent customers/patients by making them diabetic and giving them heart disease? Excess empty carbs like overly processed garbage white bread, canned salsa, fruit with fruit flies buzzing all around it... this IS a medical facility in a first-world nation where "health"care costs are outrageously expensive, right!? The pictures I saw (yes, I made her send me photos!) looked like something a raccoon eating out of the garbage would consume. People with health issues and injury require fresh, nutrient-dense foods - anything else is detrimental and neglectful. Even though visits were suspended I did drive over there once and looked things over. There were parking spots for doctors and VALET (!?) in the narrow lot, I drove to the back where I discovered cars taking up every spot and double-parked on top of that, then drove through to the other side of the building where cars were parked illegally in a red zone. What if the paramedics needed to come? There was a tiny vehicle (Fiat) taking up both 20 minute spots in front, and it was parked there for more than 20 minutes. I was forced to park illegally at a car dealership across the street so I could approach the building. They also screwed up the spelling of her name, who her primary care physician is, and her contact number (when she got out home health kept calling me; I am her emergency contact). At the end of the day I'm just thankful she got out of here alive and in reasonable health. But I caution anyone who is being placed here, or who has a loved one being placed here to keep a VERY close eye on things and if possible try to avoid this facility entirely. read more

We were a little nervous to place my grandmother in a nursing home during Covid, but everyone at Bay Crest made it so easy and made my grandmother feel right at home. The therapy team was amazing and got her back walking in no time. The nurses were very kind and patient and helped my grandmother along the way. My 94 year old father suffered a mild stroke and was sent to the Bay Crest facility for therapy. During the 22 days that he spent there, there was constant communication between the staff and myself in regards to my dad's progress. He received daily therapy sessions as well as supervision, nursing, and dietary care. He raved over the care he received there. I would visit almost daily, and once I walked into Bay Crest, every question and concern about my father's care was quickly answered in a very understanding manner. The therapists gave me information about exercises that my dad could do, once back home, that would keep him well. I cannot say enough about the kind and accommodating staff, from Elena, the social worker, Navi, the care team nurse, to the many nursing staff that treated my father as one of their family, by showing him the utmost dignity and respect. This last Thursday, 07/15, my dad was discharged at just about the same ability level that he had before his stroke. I had heard horror stories regarding nursing care facilities, but after our experience here, those stories have taken a back seat to what we experienced. They are making it so he will never come home...the tragedy he could recover just not on the aggressive timetables they have. Not sure how much of that is them, the insurance company or the government, I just want to cry. Some of the staff is compassionate and caring others are burnt out and don't belong in the business. read more
