The upfront experience was good. However, the attendants did not seem to appreciate guests visiting their course. We were a diverse group of professionals and fairly skilled golfers. We respect the course and the game. Cannot be sure why some golfers were warmly greeted while others seemed to annoy the very same employees. Was race and/or gender an issue? This experience put a huge damper on the whole day and still causes me concern.

Back home in New York, when I hit a pure 2-iron off the deck, the cold air bites your face a few months out of the year and lets you know you're alive, but out here at Heritage Isles Golf & Country Club, you're just sweating through your shirt before you even tee off. ​It kills me, it really does. I carried an 8.7 handicap at the time, not that I like bragging about it, because as soon as you start getting good at something, if you aren't careful, you start showing off, and then you aren't good mentally anymore, yiu can become a jerk, so I figured I'd try to tear this place apart from the back Gold tees at nearly seven thousand yards. But Florida golf is a different playing experience from the northeast. Half the course is built right over some swampy wetlands, and every single hole has water sitting on it, waiting to swallow up a perfectly struck draw that a little unnoticed invisible wind gust just ate. Water holes are like a godly must here, every hole has some and its depressing and weird. You hit a tight, beautiful shot right down the fairway, and suddenly it hops off this sticky Bermuda grass and disappears into a ditch where an alligator is probably sitting around pretending to be sleeping, but ready to go full on prehistoric if you get too close. ​The par-3s are long as hell, too. You get up to sixteen, playing almost two hundred and thirty yards over water and swamp, and all these old guys in pastel polo shirts are standing by their carts giving each other advice. It's phony as a three-dollar bill. Here's my advice for them "stop talking so much, just grip it 'n rip it". They've got these wooden footbridges everywhere connecting the fairways over the marshes, and you rumble your cart across and over them feeling like you're on some staged safari tour watching bad golf, instead of playing a serious round. ​I ended up shooting a seventy seven, which made me feel pretty depressed because I missed a six-footer for birdie on eighteen after cutting the dogleg over the lake. The green was fast and smooth enough, I'll give them that, but the whole setup just makes me miss northern turf. If you're a low handicap stuck in Tampa, it'll test your short game and keep you honest, but the endless palm trees and country-club phoniness will make you want to call up somebody and go grab a drink instead.

I'd put the meals I've had there up against any famous big city dining establishment. The lodging for out of town guests may be one of my favorite amenities. The finishes, the decor, the comfort ... the luxury! There is nothing else like it in this area of Florida. Though I am not a golfer myself, I do know that the greens are immaculate enough to host an annual LPGA event. Before you have time to say anything she meets you with attitude. It's almost like her goal is to stop you from playing. Pros: Convenient location, easy access with plenty of parking on one of the oldest courses in the area. Carts were in good shape, ride quiet and smooth. I was paired up with 3 young guys that were fun to play with. We kept a good pace and never caught the group in front of us or delayed the group behind us. Water coolers are available at a few holes. They come in handy during the dreadful heated months we have here. Good putting green to practice on prior to starting your round. Cons: No beverage cart throughout the round. Make sure you bring or get some beverages at the turn and beginning of your round. No driving range, there is a netted area to hit your irons off the first tee box. Greens were fast and bumpy.

Once you enter your information on the screen, your play time starts IMMEDIATELY. The problem with this is that the food took way too long (mind you, it wasn't even busy) that the play time was dang near over before the food arrived, making us add more time. We tried to order drinks with about 15 mins playing time remaining, and our server said we'd have to pay for more time or our bay would have to be forfeited. To sum it up, we felt rushed. My suggestion to maximize playing time is to order food and drink at the bar before hand and IF POSSIBLE (because I didn't try this so I don't know if its allowed), bring the food and drinks to the bay when you're ready to play. Overall, the food was good, the cocktails were mid, and the playing time was rushed.

I have been to a lot of mini golf courses around Tampa and Pinellas County that are more kid friendly and what I mean by the is they have adventure thymes. I am in no way saying this is not a good place for kids it just seems more adult oriented. The price isn't bad, $30 for all day. You can go to one course leave and come back and play the harder course. Service was excellent at the front desk. I didn't get the young ladies name but she helped me with keeping it on the down low that my son was coming with my grandson. We had a great time. The courses are fun. My son and husband had 3 beers each and me and my grandson had ice cream. The price for all that wasn't bad either at $42. Go to a concert or game or even Busch Gardens and 1 beer is $14 or more.
