I came here for the first time today. They are a small bakery. Only selling Italian cookies, Challah bread, few variations of cakes and pastries. I'm not very impressed with the selection. They didn't have linzer tarts or rugelachs which I thought was pretty basic. I don't like black and white cookies or the rainbow cookies but they don't have those either. I guess maybe it's cos' of the pandemic that they are not selling very much but I doubt that since the woman at the front counter had no idea was rugelachs were. The good thing is, the butter cookies I had were awesome. They were better than most I've had. The biscotti was alright. I would come back again if I needed a cookie badly. read more

In August I went with my friend Boris looking to enjoy some of their homemade baklava. This was two days before Nick was going on vacation for almost a month I think. We got to the store we ordered a couple of pieces we're eating Boris said man this is not baklava at all it's like shredded wheat flavor and sugar water.. I've had this in the past years and it was like visiting heaven. It was much better than the finger strips in those cellophane packages sold next to the other delicious pastries on the table on the right as you walk in. I always came in for the single serving which was $4 now it's $5 if it was tasting like baklava okay but not when it tastes like whole wheat I didn't taste like it had any honey sorry just my experience don't call me a ranter. I know Nick makes always great baklava and everything else in the store in the store using real ingredients.. but this time It was very disappointing. Yes I told the lady I think she was the short friendly Asian lady. I think she had glasses. I mentioned how is disappointed we both were. And all she gave was a nice smile a that says please don't interact with me. I think they should get some empathetic cashiers. You want to keep your long time customers not repel them. It wasn't just me but Serbian friend Boris had to admit that there was no favor of honey. Not sure honey is expensive but I was told that right after 9/11 asking Nick prices have gone up for honey and all the other natural ingredients. Yes honey is gone up but not that much during 9/11.. I got good prices going to key food or my supermarket. Boy I know how it's stretch ingredients and still not lose the flavor honey. I just wish you had some honey in this two pieces we had. Yep the lady told us it was a fresh tray of course it tasted fresh it was great that was fresh but it just didn't taste like baklava without noticeable honey and looking too dark from regular baklava with just honey colored Philo. I got to say when Nicholas makes baklava it was always a wonderful experience especially that tray of baklava that's the right side of the cashie's table. it is the best, I have to say it is much better than the way my late mother made hers. Mom put a lot of effort in making hers. I still remember that taste after 12 years of her passing. So l want to explain to Nicholas when he comes back from his well-deserved vacation. Like the rest of us can use one as well, this covid 19 pandemic has caused us so much stress in our lives. It's pandemic as in pacted my life I was attacked by a bias and stressed out fellow Greek store owner and now lm mostly crippled walking in pain all the time. I never got any restitution from this attack because the police are good friends with the store that's American Justice for you our fathers died for nothing in foreign wars. And this pandemic is still causing so much financial heartaches with not getting any rents for past 4 years. In this pandemic I end up becoming a friend to the friendless by taken six homeless people two of them Greeks. Sheltering them from living in the streets. So thanks I get is destruction in my home by them. This pandemic been a disaster. No disrespect to Nick but that's my experience that l was too embarrassed it's what we ate after telling Boris this is the best baklava in all of Brooklyn. I have purchased baked sweets / treats before so I had high expectations for the special custom cake I ordered. I was so disappointed due to the lack of actual cake and excessive amount buttercream frosting. Thank goodness it wasn't sweet, but it lacked flavor. I will not be returning. read more

Absolutely wonderful! I was planning my grandson's baptism from Florida and had the privilege of working with Nick via email. The day of the party, I really didn't know what to expect but all I can say is WOW! The cake was as delicious as it was beautiful and the desserts were outstanding, everyone was raving! We had a few guests who are gluten sensitive, at the end of the party those guests came to me and said that the gluten-free desserts were the most delicious they had ever tasted! My husband and I actually got our wedding cake here! It was very affordable for us- under $600 for a cake that fed over 125 people. The owner was so sweet and helpful when we went in to try out some different flavors. It was all custom and everyone LOVED the cake. It was amazing and I wish I had eaten more at the wedding. We got a relatively simple design, and I'm glad we did, because they aren't artists there and it wasn't "perfect" looking, but no one would notice unless up close. We put flowers on ourself. I wouldn't go there if you want an elaborate, complex design. Also, our venue had some stairs the cake had to go down and since it was buttercream frosting, it cracked a little when being delivered. I had a craving for galaktoboureko the other day but I didn't feel like going to Astoria. I saw that Bay Ridge Bakery also sells Greek desserts so I decided to check them out. While their selection was not as much as I would have expected, they had the standard desserts. The galaktoboureko itself was wonderful. Just sweet enough for me and believe me my sweet tooth is big! I also managed to get a free mini cannoli when I checked in on yelp. It tasted good. Would recommend this bakery if you are in Bay Ridge. It's a cute little shop and the servers are very friendly. Popped In today for a few things. First time there and definitely the last. They only had eight small cannolis so I took them all. They're definitely not fresh and they're only filled with cream on the ends. The sensors on all of them are completely hollow. Also bought four boxes of butter cookies with 2 pounds each. After a day at the beach with nothing but watermelon, I was ready for a late lunch/early dinner when I espied this bakery via my trusty Yelp App. Okay, I was looking for a real meal but couldn't resist checking out bakeries in the nabe. Everything in this clean, brightly lit bakery looks so fresh. I was impressed by the display that ranged from Greek pastries like honey cakes and Bougasta and the white, sugar dusted, traditional nut crescents to the butter cookies to the Italian pastries. Bay Ridge Bakery has a huge sign on their window that says French pastries, though I didn't see too many French style pastries. Not that it mattered. What I tried was excellent. The Bougasta was so delicious I have been thinking to brave the dreaded R train and the MTA track schedule just to come back for more. The cannoli I ate had a crunchy shell, and with yummy cannoli cream and chips. Maybe the filling at Bruno's in the Village is better, but it was a great cannoli nevertheless. The cakes looked so great, and I had to summon forth admirable restraint to avoid carrying off a cheesecake--only the knowledge that my refrigerator was jam packed helped. This is a bakery you go in expecting to buy one or two items and leave with bags and boxes of stuff. And when you eat the stuff, you have no regrets. Cakes here are priced at $18-22. Butter cookies are $18 a pound. The Bougasta,is $4 for a huge piece of crunchy filo stuffed with a custard that is redolent of honey and eggs. Yum heaven. The staff is friendly and helpful. I have liked pretty much everything I have gotten here. The best thing they have is the cake with the mice! I call it the mouse-mousse. it is chocolate mousse cake, so good! This place has a HUGE HUGE selection, it's not GREAT but it has its highlights. The eclairs are ridiculous. I literally had to throw a third of it out the window so I wouldn't eat the whole thing in a minute flat. It's big, its soo custardy and the glaze on top is unbelievable. Amazing. This is the highlight. The chocolate mouse cake is the other highlight. The italian cookies are pretty standard NYC level. The cheesecakes are a big miss. They have no crust, and they seem more like a no-bake. We ordered a strawberry one for NYE and it has a very strange jello-topping. Skip it. The cookies are dry as a bone and not even remotely tasty. The baklava is way too sweet and syrupy. Makes ya all a mess. My biggest bummer for this place is there is a huge lack of consistency. I came here couple times to buy some pastries because it's near my house but the prices here are ridiculous!!! Regular cheesecake slice is $5 and regular cannoli is 2.50$. I can understand the cannoli, but the cheesecake???! I have previously bought their pastries by pound and it comes out to about $2-3 per small pastry. I usually go to another place where cannoli actually tastes like ricotta and the shell is crispy. Here I find the cannoli is not that great, some of their cake slices are pretty good though. Also, the minimum for a credit card is $15 and if you bought something and they packaged it for you and you changed your mind, too bad. You have to take it home. read more

I'm not necessarily a Brooklny-ite, but I do spend a lot of time in Bay Ridge. I was out on the prowl Saturday morning for a great bakery with some bread for french toast. I stopped in Bay Ridge Bakery, and I was instantly stimulated by the looks and smell of the place. Their samples of pound cake called my name, and it was amazing. BUT, I had read reviews that Leske's was THE place to be, so I saw the bread that I wanted (Halal bread), but said I'd be back (not planning on being back). Leske's is MUCH less "decorated" with their foods, and I stop short of saying that they almost didn't look as clean as Bay Ridge Bakery, because nothing necessarily stuck out as dirty. But it was so plain, and I was really ENCOURAGED to buy buy buy some pasteries like I was at the other spot. First, the ONLY bread that Leske's had was Rye bread. Nope, not for my french toast. So I bought a chocolate chip cookie since I had made my way in, might as well make use of it. So dry, so crumbly, and nare a chocolate chip to be found. I tossed it after I finished half. Didn't get a real warm response to being there from the staff,b ut whatever. I went back to Bay Ridge Bakery where counter gal smiled and said "You're back!" I purchased my halal bread ($3.50) and an amazing looking apple turnover for $1.50, and set about my way. A day later and the apple turnover is still smiling at me and is as fresh as can be (so big I couldn't eat it at once). When he returned back to the car and told me how much it cost $20.00 where in other bakeries they were not more than $14.00 and had more substance Even though the bread was in a box which we did not open, the owner would not accept it back. she claimed it was a NYC Health rule. I have returned foods in the past without any problems. Well, I did get my money back after much argument,and then I went to another Greek owned bakery and I purchased even a bigger one for $14.00. I bought a pound and a half of cookies, three different varieties. When dessert time came around, the cookies were all gone in less than 10 minutes. Next family party I will surely buy three pounds of cookies. The ones I chose were 12 dollars a pound, but let me tell you, they're worth every penny. I shopped at Bay Ridge Bakery for the first time today, based on their current Yelp reviews, I felt confident about trying an assortment of their cookies. There was nothing actually "bad-tasting" about their rainbow cookie-- overall, the cake part tasted OK, the filling was standard apricot jam, and the chocolate coating tasted decent. I think that whoever assembled it did a total rush job because the jam surrounding the cake layers were unevenly spread out-- more jam in some places and less in others-- so when you bite into it, the cookie fell apart and the jam oozes out. Upon further inspection, there was so much jam in some areas that it soaked itself into the middle layer of the cake! The chocolate coating on the cookie was also too thick and uneven. It felt awkward and bulky and didn't feel delicate and dainty-- as a petit four is expected to. Possibly not assembled by someone with experience-- a rookie mistake, maybe? At $20.00 a lb, it's not a cheap eat-- less is definitely more in this case. All this cookie needs is less jam and more attention to detail. I gave it a 3-star because it's not about the quality of the ingredients-- just the part about proper assembly. I will come back for their butter cookies and chocolate dipped snickerdoodles. However, my family and I were pretty disappointed by the rainbow cookies. read more

Such an terrible experience.. I ordered a 8" custom cake for my son's birthday. When I ordered the cake I went over all the details with the owner (wife, older sweet woman). Everything was clearly written on the cake.. vanilla cake, vanilla Oreo filling, chocolate on the outside of the cake. Pretty simple. We cut the cake with family on my son's birthday and unfortunately after cutting the cake we realized the they cake was completely wrong order. Chocolate cake, no Oreo filling & jelly. I immediately called and spoke to the owner (sweet older woman). She told me to serve the cake and bring in whatever was left so that she can show the baker. This woman also informed me I would receive a full refund. I brought the cake into the bakery and was met with the rudest nastiest man (I believe the owner, sweet older woman's hubby). Who proceeded to smash the cake up to prove to me the cake did have Oreos.. he screamed at the girl behind the counter because she agreed with me that she heard the sweet older woman tell me to serve & bring the remaining cake back.. I did receive my money back but will never ever use this bakery again.. which is sad because I used them on a regular basis. They ruined a bday and gave me a headache for no reason. I really don't have enough great things to say about this place!!! They have a whole gluten free freezer with desserts that are made in a certified gf bakery SO this is a celiacs heaven. Anyway, they have cannolis, carrot cake cupcakes, cookie dough cupcakes, brownies, cookies, pizza crusts, breads etc.! The desserts I have tried so far have been the BEST GF desserts I've ever had. So much flavor, so much taste. They all defrost perfectly and definitely don't taste like they were frozen. The carrot cakes are so moist with so much flavor. Absolutely delicious! I'm pretty disappointed, I emailed last week on the contact page of their website asking for a quote. I checked and it was confirmed they received it, 7 days ago. So I figured they must be busy and decided to call in just now, the woman over the phone told me "we don't take orders over the phone so you have to email and we don't do custom cakes." I found that really strange because their site has a whole gallery devoted to it. I would have loved to order a custom cake from here and it's a bummer I won't be able too. I wish she had tried to be more helpful or listen to me when I explained to her I had tried to email. So this little Greek Bakery holds a special spot in my heart. Growing up Bay ridge my mother would always take me here almost every week to pick up pastries. I always got my birthday cakes from here. All his products are very fresh. He does amazing work on his cakes. I am always happy. His cheesecake, chocolate mousse cake, strawberry shortcake, strawberry cheese cake are delicious.
