We recently moved, and had boxes of mail to shred so we scheduled a pickup with Bay Shred. They told us: "We'll call you thirty minutes before we come over". Then a few days before, we got a worse-than-the-cable guy window of 10:30am - 4pm. We have already moved out of the old place, so this was important -- both my wife & I work, so we couldn't just hang out at an old place with no internet. Two hours passed, and I thought, "What's the most likely failure mode? Calling my wife's phone or forgetting to call?". So I called them and was told "Oh they'll be there in an hour." An hour passed. No call. So I called again, "They're on their way!". Finally it was 3pm, so I drove half an hour back to our old place, on the theory they would have to be there by 4pm... right? No calls on the way to our place, so I called them once I got there. "Let me see if we can find the driver!". Then came the admission that the driver had actually dropped by our place around 1pm, but had simply forgotten to call either of us [!]. I don't rightly know how you can forget this since it was part of the engagement and I called about it repeatedly throughout the day... Anyway, after another 30 minutes of waiting at the empty house in which dispatch told me she would work it out with the operations center. When she finally got back in touch with me, she told me that well, the business closes at 5pm, and well, would I be available the next Tuesday? This was Thursday. Anyway, she promised the driver would be disciplined. I don't really care about that -- maybe this one driver is a screwup, but if your business processes can end up with someone having a _five day_ delay, they don't seem very robust. In fact, they're so bad it made me skeptical of whether I would trust them with shredding personal documents. Anyway, I'd spent so much time at our old house it was rush hour so it took an hour getting home (normal travel time: 20 minutes). My wife & I cancelled the order and we're just carrying the boxes ourselves to another vendor. Maybe they dont make house calls that often? Their website makes it seem like they do, and if so, I just don't think anybody should give this company their business. You don't get to erase a true review of the service you didn't provide by doing what should have been done in the first place to fix a situation your staff created** My mom and aunt were clearing out their sisters home as they recently moved her into an assisted living facility. They had an appointment window with this dreadful company from 10am to 1pm to destroy 15-20 boxes of documents. The driver called my mom at 8am stating he will be at my aunts house in five minutes. My mom goes "Our appointment window is 10-1pm". She then tells him she can be there by 930 as she had to rearrange her schedule to rush over there. The driver says ok but then never shows up. My mom then calls the office and spoke to Kathy? She offered to reschedule to the following week. Unfortunately the new appointment wouldn't work as the house is being prepped to be sold and my mom had other appointments she couldn't change. She calls me and I could tell she was irritated. I called the company hoping to get this resolved. When the phone was answered, I asked for a manager due to the situation's escalation. Kathy? announced she was a partner in the business. I explained to her the situation but before I ending she could finish recapping the situation she cuts me off as she goes "I'm aware of this situation". I asked what can she do since the error was on their side. She goes "It doesn't matter at this point and there is nothing I can do today". Rather than deal with the poor customer service from an owner, I hung up the phone. The shredding truck driver, Martin, called to advise me that he would be arriving in 40 minutes. He arrived on-time as promised and was very efficient. These guys are great. They're great if you're a business. They do secure document shredding and they have a mobile trucks, so they'll even do it on-site for as little as $100. Can't beat that. They're great if you're an individual. Especially if you're an individual who happens to be a kleptomaniac (unfortunately, that includes me). I just finally cleaned out over 10 years of personal files and ended up with a large, large bag of papers with sensitive information on them. Since that large, large bag weighed just less than 25lbs, they let me take it to their location in South SF and watch as one of their trucks shredded it for only $10! For drop-off service, you have to call first for an appointment. If you have multiple 25lb bags, they're just $10 each. So like I said, they're great. Cleanse your inner Kleptomaniac. Small businesses PAY ATTENTION......you have credit card numbers, addresses, sometimes even socials lying around your place CLEAN IT UP!!!! We had all sorts of stuff that by law we had to keep for three years or so hang in around the store not to mention we offer shredding as one of our services here. We call upon Bay Shred when our bin gets full (or when some one cleaning out an estate brings in 300 lbs of paper) and they are out here with that day or the next. We usually have the pleasure of dealing with Joshua who is exceptional. My customers (who for some reason trust me implicitly) will dump there most sacred of materials here in my hands and then simply request I stand there the whole time the truck disintegrates it.
