The experience was just OK. The dining room was very very cold I think that is a very bad look on the owner part, they were clearly trying to cut some corners and saving money and it's not very comfortable when you're freezing cold waiting for your food to get to you that's also going to be cold because it's so cold lol! didn't have a reservation but it was not busy at all but the hostess went out of her way to let us know that they don't usually take walk-ins when they're super busy. There was literally three people in the dining room and one of the three groups of two individuals.. one Group of two people was leaving as we came in so I don't know why she acted like it was super busy,. Kitchen was fully staffed there was two waitresses maybe three. Sat down in the freezing cold had to wait literally 15 minutes + just for some water. I was getting a bad vibe from the lack of customer service and heating so I didn't even want to order an appetizer I ordered the clam chowder it was delicious but Luke warm .. I already knew that was the situation it literally came with two freaking wheat crackers!! Two crackers!!!! I was beside myself lol I ordered some bread and she brought out two of the smallest pieces of cold bread you could imagine I was over it lol .. oh & i would definitely call the soup potato soup not clam chowder ... know when you think about it I would just call it chunks of potato in a little bit of cream and lamb flavor...I did appreciate the fact that it seem to be homemade not from a can.... order two sushi rolls like I said experience was OK I honestly don't think I'll be coming back it's a really small town and there's a lot of other places that given way nicer dining experience... read more

Appetizers were great. Food, ok. Although we ordered Italian and they are known for their Japanese food. We made reservations ahead and stated it was a special occasion for our 35th anniversary. No acknowledgement of that at all and the service was lacking from beginning to end. Governor just announced today that dine in restaurants will be closing again tomorrow due to Covid, I would be providing the best service possible, but not here. We have both worked in the service industry and restaurants so we understand the challenges involved. Very disappointed. read more

Grossly disappointing, Lifeless and dull and not good. The staff was staring at costumers eating and taking about costumers in front of other customers. Sent back two plates of food because it was so gross the food was inedible border line rancid. After eating one sushi role I was sick to my stomach for two days. Went there this afternoon with my friend. Upon walking in, the place was empty, and the atmosphere was a little off. Had great service from our waitress, Chloe. He got the teriyaki chicken meal and I got the Philadelphia salmon roll, both very good. I've had fresher sushi before, but it wasn't bad, definitely over priced for the quality of the fish though. We sat next to the window where you can see the beautiful Boardwalk, however it's over run by drug users and the homeless, so that was a little off putting. All in all, the atmosphere was bad, the food was okay but overpriced for sushi and and the service was really good! Next time I want sushi I wouldn't go there, but definitely will try again and order something else on the menu. Maybe later in the day as well. read more

I have been here dozens of times over the years and usually the food is pretty good and the service is just ok. Last night was the worst experience I have had and will be hard pressed to go back. We made a reservation for 10 for tepanake a couple of weeks ago to celebrate a graduation. They were on time with our reservation, but it went downhill from there. First they were out of Lamb- my favorite and main reason to go, second we ask for more yellow sauce right away- never received it, cook looked confused- I had not seen him before. His trays were all screwed up so he didn't have the right counts for his proteins and had to keep going back to the kitchen to get this or that. Everyone got medium well on their meat no matter how they ordered it. He cooked the vegetables last in the meat juice and didn't use the lid so they were still hard, the scallops were raw in the middle. The wait staff disappeared during dinner so none if had drinks during dinner service even though we ordered a second round before the chef came out. After all this they tacked a arbitrary 20% tip onto our $1000 bill. I usually don't bash restaurants over a bad meal but this was so bad I felt compelled. read more

We did their teppanyaki for a birthday. A few in our group were 10min late and they asked if we could call them and get their orders over the phone as they have a schedule to stay on. Awkward! The chef was good. Didn't get the clue that the 4 yr old birthday kid didn't like being strayed in the face multiple times with the peeing baby toy. That was frustrating since we had to calm her down each time he sprayed her. They only do rice on the grill not noodles like most places. That was a bummer but the food was good. We were given boxes before we were done eating our food and felt rushed to leave even though there were 3 grills not even being utilized. They gave the birthday girl ice cream and a candle and sang her happy birthday. Wait staff was very attentive and helpful. This place was such a disappointment. Been coming here for years before moving away, first time back in a few years and boy, has the quality and service gone down hill. Aside from the service being slow and inattentive, the chef didn't really seem to understand the concept of medium rare filet mignonette, or extra done scallops were..... but he sure did know how to overcook the chicken. When management was made aware of the issues, instead of offering any resolution, I was criticized for for bringing it to the chef attention and making a scene in front of the rest of the guests at the table. The managers idea of a resolution was to discount a $95 meal by $5. SMH!!! read more

I seriously love this place so much. The staff really makes you feel welcome even with a takeout order. I always order the Tempura Yam Avacado Rolls and they are to die for. I don't like fish but I love sushi so it's nice to have options. Not to mention I was astounded when I realized the range of food they have. Japanese. Sushi. Italian. And then just like normal American stuff. They've got it all! And it's not super pricey for what you get, it's probably around Mazzottis prices. Or even Sushi Spot. My girlfriend and I had a long day at work and we came here to treat ourselves. It was an awesome experience all around! Reagan was a complete sweetheart and was so funny! She added so much to our dinner date and we will be sitting in her section every time we come to this restaurant. As for our food! It was fantastic. My husband and I have been here three times. We find the atmosphere relaxing and lovely (with views of the bay). Service has been attentive and friendly. They have an extensive menu (we've only eaten from the Japanese menu) and my husband loves the sushi rolls with diverse fish selections. What I love best is that they will make sushi to order. I like a certain combination of veggies (and often no fish) in my rolls and I have been delighted with how they have adapted for me. So we came in for lunch at 11am. We had a group of three and there was one other person eating at the restaurant. We started out the bad experience waiting for our drink order to be taken(5 min). I didn't think that was a big deal knowing the place just opened. But my opinion changed after we ordered our lunch. Two groups that I counted were seated after us. Those groups Got there order taken and received their food before us. I asked the server if I could just receive my check for the miso soup and salad and that it's unacceptable for us to wait for so long and I asked her why other people who sat down and ordered after us received their food so much faster. She told me that was not true for the section in the restaurant and that she was still waiting for my food. So I guess this problem is just with this server. My fiance and I were looking for some delicious food close to the water and this place did NOT disappoint. While sushi and Italian sounds a bit strange TRUST that its a fantastic combination. We ordered the Krazy Monkey (which is a house specialty), spaghetti, and a lobster roll we will never forget. The food was high quality and absolutely delicious, it was prepared in a timley manner and the whole service was fantastic. Our server Maricela was so awesome, she was quick to have a little laugh with us and seemed so easy going yet very knowledgeable. Our experience would not have been the same without her, if you have a chance to patron this restaurant give her a request! Love the ambiance of the Tempenyaki side, never ate at the other side of the restaurant but I've heard it's great also! The bar looks cozy actually it is. I've sat up there one time. The servers of bar front are always lovely. The cooks!!!! Very friendly and engaging to the crowd that your eating with, if you have a big enough group I would say 6 people then you get your own cook! Each time you go it's kinda like a different experience. It's exciting and the kids always have so much fun. I've ordered the lobster, the steak and both were delicious. Also their miso sauce for the rice and it's basically locally famous. A tip for you is to order a extra side of rice with extra miso sauce on the side to go, after your meal is over. To enjoy the next day. Anyway I don't have pictures but check them out. Disorganized, service was mediocre, poorly marked entrance if you're walking, and it took over 15 min for anyone to even acknowledge us being seated at the table. Flies everywhere. Would never have guessed that this has mostly sushi/sashimi/Asian foods on the menu. My burger and bun arrived charred and yet underdone in the middle. Try someplace else, is all I will say! After standing at the hostess stand for 3-4 minutes in a not busy restaurant I asked an employee if someone could come over to discuss seating our party. She laughed and said she would check. FOOD POISONING! The wait staff and chefs are very kind and seemed to know the menu and beverage choices well. The ambiance is amazing, right on the waterfront. The entire atmosphere and overall feel of the evening was pleasant. However, several hours after eating the Sashimi platter and one Salmon Skin Temaki, I was violently ill. The culprit, food poisoning. Not a shred of doubt. Hot and cold sweats, nausea, headache and frequent vomiting. I do not wish this on anyone. I feel that they should have their refrigerators inspected. And quite possibly hit the reset button and throw out the fish inventory and start anew. read more

Let not the stars dissuade you from coming here and trying this place yourself; if anything return visits tend to solidify one's opinion. My own two star contribution stems only from my first impression of a restaurant that appropriately chalks up to Yelp's summary of the rating: "Meh. I've experienced better." The Bayfront Restaurant features the crew (and apparently some of the décor) of the old Cin Cin and/or the old Ritz- I'm still not sure which at this point. What has carried over is either restaurant's preference for fusion food- specifically Italian and Japanese in this case. As a result the food itself is colorful and sometimes creatively served; as much as many folks would scoff at sake being served in a wine glass, it truly is the best way to release it's aromatic properties. For that matter, despite the discrepancy in heaviness, Italian fare doesn't look nearly as out of place next to sushi as one would think. Good Italian should remain faithful to the tenets of minimalism in terms of ingredients, and both the Japanese and the Italian dishes alike here have enough color between them to brighten at least one drab corner of this sober, pulp-mill town. That being said, the sushi itself was good, but not wonderful. I was surprised to find that ikura was included on the lunch sushi special, but not surprised (considering how hard it is to come by good ikura) to find it a little lacking in flavor. Likewise the sake (of the salmon kind) was also missing the subtle butteriness of a good salmon sashimi. The sushi rice used was of good quality, though- something which earns high points in my book considering all of the bland, bloated, cakey grains I've had to deal with at sushi joints elsewhere. The miso soup was a tad diluted, but the salad (which could be chosen over the soup for the lunch special) had a refreshingly tangy kick to it. Finally, and most importantly,, the chicken teriyaki did not come drenched in saccharine syrup, but instead showed up with a delicate drizzle of sauce and a perfect portion of rice on the side. In short, these guys seem to be off to a decent start foodwise. The service could use a little improvement, however. Our waiter first forgot that I ordered the salad instead of the miso and then brought my food out about 20 minutes after everyone else had already been served, forcing me to twiddle my thumbs and contemplate the sound of Kenny G piping through the restaurant's speakers (enough said there). We were never asked what we wanted to drink and thus had to order our drinks later when the food started arriving. Nothing egregious. Nothing spectacular. I'm glad that someone has taken over this space who has the chance to turn it into something really nice; the power is meanwhile in their hands to find themselves, once and for all, amidst their currently dissociative restaurant identities. read more

This restaurant is the reason we got a Yelp account. We wanted to let everyone know about our experience... We had high expectations because of other reviews and the look of the restaurant, but when the "seasonal vegetables" on my boyfriend's $22 NY Strip Steak plate was broccoli and carrots that looked like they formerly lived in a freezer, it went downhill from there. Also, we could have gotten better sushi at the grocery store. The wait staff got 10% that was very generous on our part because we were lucky if we got acknowledged when she brought out our meal and other things like the steak knife that should have come with the plate and a spoon to go with sugar and the tea. We probably called her to our table about 10 times because we had to ask for each condiment and piece of silverware individually as though the dining out experience was nothing to be intuitive about. It reminded us of playing "restaurant" with a 5 year old. To their accord, however, when we explained our situation to the stand-in manager, we were graciously given a delicious piece of tiramisu to make up for our $55 dollar experience that was completely below standard. They still get 3 stars because the atmosphere is nice and there's a lot on the menu that we didn't try... Something there must be good! read more

BayFront Restaurant is overlooking the water of Eureka Channel between Humboldt Bay and Arcata Bay. It is an understated restaurant that let's the outdoors "decorate" the indoors by having banks of windows to bring in sunshine and views of all the boats and activity going on outside. The luncheon menu had items from pasta to sushi. I wanted seafood so started with a cup of very good clam chowder followed by a Soft Shell Crab Burger. The whole soft shell crab (including claws) was dipped in a nice, light tempura batter and served atop a pillowy soft bun with avocado slices and a dollop of spicy aioli. Hubby had clam chowder and a Parma Proscuitto sandwich with tomato, lettuce, mozzarella and pesto. Good food, nice presentation, pleasant surroundings and friendly, efficient service add up to a lovely lunch in beautiful Eureka, CA. read more
