So FU**ING BOMB ! The cursing in this scenario is necessary because it's that good! I visited Eureka recently to stay with a friend and begged her to let me check this place out because they have couple different options for stouts. I love dark beer and each one I tried here was phenomenal. I had the downtown brown which really packed a malty flavor. And the peanut butter chocolate milk stout was so yummy I got a six pack to go. Not to mention I think it was only ten bucks which is a great price for local beer. First time I visited with my friend I got the blue cheese burger and just.. WOW. The fried sliced pickles along with being packed on with bacon and delicious angus beef this burger left me feeling ravenous. My burger came with lots of toothpicks (thank god) to hold together the mound of toppings/bun. Every single bite I felt like I was eating the world's most delicious cheeseburger and couldn't help be shocked that this was the meal I had presented to me today. Was so GOOD - I returned the next day. This time I got the elk burger which again, huge, delicious, but the one I had day prior was my personal favorite. We will not be returning. We had a late lunch yesterday. My wife had a burger that was good, I had a cup of clam chowder that was also good. After the chowder, I had a carnitas taco that was generous with the meat, but dried out. The part that will keep us from returning are the unexpected extra charges for a bill that totaled over $50. We initially wanted to come here for lunch on a Saturday, but the place was packed! The host said it would be a 45 minute wait, so we went elsewhere for our meal and came back to try their drinks. Even after eating lunch, the place was still crowded. If you're not ordering food, you can grab a seat at the bar. My friends and I shared the flight. They had a lot of interesting flavors to choose from, and the bartender was very helpful with his recommendations. We were also able to get a seltzer as part of the flight. Came here while we were in town for some food and drinks. The building itself is rustic looking. It looks like it's been there for hundreds of years. Inside you find a lot of seating and quirky decor. Staff was very friendly and helpful making recommendations and served us quickly. We ordered Jalapeno poppers, an elk burger, Navajo chicken sandwich and shark bait taco. I'm a huge fan of Lost Coast Coast beers, so I was ecstatic when I came across the brewery in Eureka! The food was fantastic. I had the famous hot brown with dipping sauce. My table mates enjoyed their cheeseburgers and Navajo chicken sandwiches. So tasty! It was lunchtime so it was very crowded, but we still had great service. Was a hotel down the street and walked down to Lost Coast. I didn't know what to order so I ask hostess for recommendations. One of her suggestions was the Hot Brown. I'm not a complainer but thought this review might help others. I don't know about their other food but it hot brown was tasteless. It is dry roast beef on a sour dough bun. No gravy or sauce to dip it in or anything. There was no star of this plate. It came with french fries and they were just ok but Hostess didn't offer and ketchup but i'll take the blame for that mistake. We were sat down quickly on a Sunday for lunch, but it took a while for the server to come say Hi. She was obviously busy and did her best, but food took a while to come out. Food portions here are HUGE. So glad we did a burger and salad. We like going to the taproom, but there's no food there so I'm glad this downtown location has good food. I really don't like that they tack on a 3% service charge. This is disclosed on the menu, but I would prefer if they would just increase the food prices to be more transparent. The greeter was accommodating and friendly, and our waiter was excellent. My wife asked for a "quiet spot" because I have phobia in loud places. Under normal circumstances I would have just walked out when I saw/heard the place, but we were at the end of our rope in finding a place to eat and we were very hungry. Usually my wife and I differ on the size of the tip, and she started to try to talk me into a lower tip, but stopped herself and said that the greeter was so helpful, and the service so good that she agreed that a larger tip was warranted. ...I almost decided not to come here at all because I was irritated by learning about the 3% fee they add to your bill...but I'm really glad that I wasn't so close-minded. read more

My only intention in speaking with management was to offer constructive feedback by pointing out where the restaurant's advertised expectations differed from our actual experience. Unfortunately, the manager immediately took a defensive stance and blamed me for the misunderstandings. As visitors traveling through Eureka, we relied entirely on their online menu. A friend recommended the Chicken Corn Chowder, which the website listed. When we arrived, I went in to order take out. I was told the chowder is actually a rotating weekly special and wasn't available. No problem--mistakes happen. I instead ordered the Santa Fe Chicken Salad (specifically requesting romaine, as my wife dislikes field greens) and the Chicken Tacos from the special board. I ordered through the bartender, Samantha, who was very patient as she spent time modifying the order in the Toast system. I even double-checked with her about the romaine since it didn't print on the receipt, and she assured me the kitchen had it. Unfortunately, the execution fell far short: THE SALAD: Despite the verbal confirmation, it arrived with field greens instead of romaine. THE TACOS: They came out incredibly bare--just corn tortillas, cold grilled chicken, cabbage, cheese, and a side of pico de gallo. When I spoke to the manager later, she informed me that I was "supposed to know" to ask for the "Special Tacos" and explicitly request all the additional toppings. She noted that their kitchen moves so fast that details get missed, which makes me think their system isn't optimized for modifications. To make matters more confusing, their online menu explicitly lists "Taco Tuesday - Chicken Tacos" as coming with sour cream, lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, and cheese. There was no indication online or on the board that these required a checklist of add-ons. The online menu also still lists the Chicken Corn Chowder without making it clear it's only available on select weeks. There were no other "Weekly Rotating Soup Specials" listed on the web-site. THE TAKEAWAY: If you are a local who knows the ins and outs of Lost Coast Brewery, you will likely have a great experience--especially if you're there for the beer. But if you are a visitor, be aware that you need to know the menu inside and out and double-check every detail. Glad we stopped by for a quick bite to eat today. Pretty cool place for ipa and burgers. Good serving size and on pointe with our instructions to make the fries well done crispy. I have to say the bread of our burgers didn't fall apart and didn't get soagy which means that the bread was dense and good bread for the hamburger and to hold the large pickle slices, green chilies and jalapeños as well as lettuce and tomatoes. We ordered 2 chicken lips with 1 seasoned fries 1 regular fries, and jambalaya. Boy I read the reviews before I came 2 days ago, it's totally going down the hill. My in law said Seasoned fries used to be delicious and crispy hot! Now the fries taste flat and cold! The chicken lips still good no complaints from them. I should have written this review so many years ago when this brewery was really good. What happened? This was our third time drinking/dining here and it has really changed. We discovered this place way back on our honeymoon in the 90's so we have returned a couple times while in the area and always had a great experience. There beers used to be incredible but now they have followed the IPA trail and they quit pouring my favorite brew which was the Alleycat Amber Ale. This was an award winning beer and you stopped producing it?? The only beer they have left that is worth drinking is the Downtown Brown which is nice and nutty. Food was also a miss for us. We arrived during HH and ordered a special appetizer which managed to come out that same time as our food. We took two bites and yuck! I ordered the shrimp tacos thinking this might be a win since we were on the coast, but no the shrimp was deep fried instead of grilled plus the tortillas used were flour instead of corn. Just plain disappointing. My husband tried the Famous Hot Brown sandwich. Although not a traditional Louisville Kentucky style hot brown nevertheless a generous effort with fresh roast beef and a side salad. Service was good, and the brewery still looks the same inside.
