Yes, a real restaurant in Vidor that's not a fast food joint. For a town of 10,000 people, I'm shocked that there are not more. Bayou Cafe is something that you'll find only in this area; if you find it in a different locale, it's likely imported. Here, this southern food is the real thing. Don't let the "Texas" in the address fool you; Cajun culture crosses state lines from Looziana into Southeast Texas. They have shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried, pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. And gumbo. And that's all I have to say about that. Well, maybe more. The Hunny had a Cajun platter, complete with catfish, fries, and hush puppies. I had a Mardi Gras sandwich and gumbo, also fries. Sandwich had shrimp, which is why it is higher priced, but the spice it had made it goood, especially when I put Louisiana hot sauce on it. The hush puppy had jalapenos in it, so too hot for the Hunny. But she loved the catfish. Bayou Cafe is set up as a smaller version of such famous places as Mulate's, Randall's, and Prejean's. They built a patio area outside to the left, and this is where they have the live bands. Not many people there when we had our date night, but the Hunny said, "When I was comin' home from church, that place was FULL!" Bayou Cafe, a mid-range restaurant that fits right in here in Coonie Texas. Come with a group, or you can eat all bayou seff.

Another of us ordered the fried shrimp which came with 12 shrimp, hush puppies and instead of fries she ordered potato salad, which was homemade and tasted good.

We were road tripping our way down I-10 and wanted to stop somewhere off the beaten path,…read morenon-chain, for lunch. Jingo popped up a few exits from us, so we went for it. The building itself looks pretty rough, which is par for the course when stopping in small towns for cajun food. They have covered outdoor seating for when the weather is nice, as well as tables and booths inside. You order at the counter, grab a seat, and wait for your food to be ready. Everything looked fresh cooked, since you can see the kitchen in the back from the order counter, and someone working away frying shrimp, fish filets, etc. The lady behind the counter was very friendly and accommodating. She walked our food out to us, came back checking on our meal, and even hunted down some hot sauce for us when we asked. We ordered the fried shrimp po-boy, fried pickles, popcorn shrimp, a couple sodas and something else seafood I can't quite remember. The total was close to $60 which kind of struck me, so the pricing is roughly $20 a person for entree and drink. I'd say the seafood is the main attraction, and everything else is filler. My po-boy had really bad bread, it wasn't fresh baguette, instead some kind of mushy white bread like a hotdog bun, but the shrimp inside was great. The popcorn shrimp was great. The fried pickles were great. Whatever the heck my wife ordered was also seafood and great. I also saw multiple tables ordering the seafood boil plates and digging in, so keep that in mind as another popular option. (at least during that lunch) This place won't win any fine dining awards, but they seem to have seafood down pat. Worth a stop if you're looking for something unique while motoring through.

The point is plentiful, delicious, so much to choose from and the customer service is next to none! The restaurant was filled with diverse patrons, the mood was set to great old school music. The only draw back is that they are not closer to my home town. I would be there daily! The price was $25/plate and worth every penny. We had enough to eat a full plate that night at home.

I love how they keep the place super cold in the summer because it gets real hot in Texas. Food: this is some of the best food I've had in a long time.
