Yes, a real restaurant in Vidor that's not a fast food joint. For a town of 10,000 people, I'm shocked that there are not more. Bayou Cafe is something that you'll find only in this area; if you find it in a different locale, it's likely imported. Here, this southern food is the real thing. Don't let the "Texas" in the address fool you; Cajun culture crosses state lines from Looziana into Southeast Texas. They have shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried, pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. And gumbo. And that's all I have to say about that. Well, maybe more. The Hunny had a Cajun platter, complete with catfish, fries, and hush puppies. I had a Mardi Gras sandwich and gumbo, also fries. Sandwich had shrimp, which is why it is higher priced, but the spice it had made it goood, especially when I put Louisiana hot sauce on it. The hush puppy had jalapenos in it, so too hot for the Hunny. But she loved the catfish. Bayou Cafe is set up as a smaller version of such famous places as Mulate's, Randall's, and Prejean's. They built a patio area outside to the left, and this is where they have the live bands. Not many people there when we had our date night, but the Hunny said, "When I was comin' home from church, that place was FULL!" Bayou Cafe, a mid-range restaurant that fits right in here in Coonie Texas. Come with a group, or you can eat all bayou seff. read more

The food was delicious and the service was quick. The building was clean with quaint decor.

I ordered a medium seafood gumbo, and a three-piece fish basket (blackened). The gumbo had so many shells in it, I couldnt take but a few bites and was done. And to add to that, the fish was basically broiled had no seasoning on it at all. This is the second and last time I will be eating here. As someone who was born and raised in Louisiana, I'm not sure this is Cajun food. There isn't link boudin. The boudin balls (and egg rolls?) tasted like they were made from canned tuna. The service was also uneven, with food coming out at wildly different times. Everyone was almost finished by the time my grandmother got food. read more

Working in the area from out of town and had a local recommend this place. Stopped in around lunch and the place was hopping. The lady taking orders (Maggie) was very conversational and made us feel right at home. After taking your name you sit any where and they bring your food to you. I usually end my reviews with would I come back...we'll I've been back enough in the short time I've been in town that Maggie calls me by name. Called in to ask about menu items available for those who have shellfish allergies and the woman on the phone responded with,"Well this is a seafood place, there's seafood everywhere..." What can you say, its very unassuming from the outside. But its a real treat. I had the Cajun basket, 2 fish, 2 hushpuppies, a boudin ball and fries. I thought the value was right on point. The food was fresh. The boudin ball was outstanding. The fish was cooked perfectly, the hushpuppies were a tad overdone but not to a point of burnt. I will definitely eat here again. read more

It's nothing fancy but the food and service was good. There were 3 of us and we each ordered something different. The Bayou seafood platter came with 2 catfish fillets, 6 shrimp, stuffed crab, fries and hush puppies. Everything was fresh seafood, not frozen and tasted great. Another of us ordered the fried shrimp which came with 12 shrimp, hush puppies and instead of fries she ordered potato salad, which was homemade and tasted good. I ordered from a second menu (be sure to ask for it) and ordered a shrimp pasta with angle hair pasta and a creamy garlic sauce which was delicious. Garlic bread was served with it. The shrimp were grill to perfection and you could taste the freshness. Well worth the stop. Also, service was good as we didn't wait long for our food. Nothing wrong with the taste of the food. It's good, but the one in Beaumont has larger portions. We got the Mardi Gras grilled shrimp poboy. On the menu it says it comes with fries and all the poboys come with tartar sauce, lettuce, and tomato. She asked us how we wanted our poboy. I simply replied how it comes. It came out with just bread and shrimp. When I asked where the toppings were, she said that I asked for it how it came. Um, it says on the menu that it comes with sauce, lettuce, and tomato. Not really sure why that was confusing for them, but they fixed it right away. It tasted good, but when we got the same meal in Beaumont there was twice as many shrimp and it was full of lettuce and tomato, not just a sprig. We also got a boudin ball. $3 for 1 small boudin ball is ridiculous. My hubby asked her about how big it was. What she demonstrated with her hands was more than twice the size it actually was. Again, tasted good, but so not worth more than a buck. I will say I like that they have a whole menu that the Beaumont location doesn't have. However, if the portions aren't equal to that of the Beaumont location, then definitely not really worth the extra drive. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. I do think that the lemon bowl needs tongs or toothpicks or something to get them out of the bowl. The only option was to use your hands or get a napkin to pick them out of the bowl. Not the best choices. Plus we all know very few people will actually use a napkin to do this. We frequent the Beaumont location and will continue to do so. Might try this one again if we are wanting to try something the Beaumont location doesn't have. read more

My husband and I went to dinner here. We ordered almost the same thing and his food came out, I waited for mine while he was almost done eating his i went to ask where my food was. They were still cooking it. He ate his whole plate before mine ever came out. They didn't apologize or anything. The restaurant wasn't even busy with 4 couples including ourselves.
