We engaged a different broker initially who completely wasted one year of our lives with not a single offer! That's time I can't afford, as I have advanced ALS, also the reason for selling. (im typing this with my eyes) Tom was capable of keeping my boat clean and handling all the nuisance problems common in rarely used boats. He even dealt with my dilapidated dinghy problems including haul-out, submitting an insurance claim (successful!) and managing an exchange for the buyer. The sale included an LLC transfer as well at which there was no hesitation. He also arranged all signatures to be made electronically so I didn't need to deploy my entourage to get my rolling bulk to signing meetings. All these things were done without my asking! We finally found Alan and then found our dream boat! Alan was such a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. He ALWAYS answers his phone (even after the deal is done) and gets back to you right away. We put in an offer, buyer accepted and Alan got our inspection and sea trial done within just a few days. His process is much less cumbersome than what we're used to. He just gets things done quickly. He's also a wealth of information about boats and "has a guy" for everything. I needed to install a new Airmar transducer. I wanted to make sure it was done right so I called…read moreAirmar. They said that if I go to a certified installer that I would get a 3 year extended warranty. They gave me the names of a few in my area and Alcom was one of them. I called Alcom and spoke to Todd and told him about the certified installation and about wanting the 3 year extended warranty. He said yeah "we can do that". That was a lie. They sent me to a shipyard and instead of installing it themselves, Alcom told me to have the shipyard install the transducer and all they would need to do is set it up for the warranty. The next day I called Airmar to make sure that was right and Airmar said the warranty only applies if an ACI certifiedu technician did the actual physical installation and that they would have pretest the unit and post test once installed then upload the results to Airmar for the extended warranty to go into effect. I was confused. When I then asked Todd why he didn't tell me that one of their certified techs did not install the unit? -- He tried to put it on me and said "why didn't you ask the Shipyard" to have a certified tech install it? He also said the Shipyard was certified to do the installation so I would get the extended warranty anyway. That was another lie. The shipyard was not a certified installer. Mind you, having installed by a certified tech was the only reason I even called Alcom to do the work. I was given their information from Airmar. Turns out one of the older guys (maybe the owner) told me that he was certified but doesn't do installations and hasn't done so for years -- but that's why they're on Airmar's list. Isn't this something Todd should have told me? Another thing -- Alcom was supposed to do some other work for me. After looking on their website and reading up in their technicians, I was surprised when someone showed up I didn't recognize. He said he was the tech from Alcom. Again, a random guy mentioned nowhere on their website. They sub-out their jobs. Deceitful and misleading. Absolutely do not recommend.

Avoid At All Cost!!!!…read more I hate to do this because I love to see small businesses succeed but this experience was beyond horrible. I contacted Chad Pordes (aka Pordes Marine, Southern California Boatworks, South Bay Boatworks, possibly others but those are the three business names I've found him to be using) in mid September to service my outboard engine. He was informative and seemed reliable so I brought my engine to him. The next day he told me it was ready for pickup. Seemed fast but I appreciated the quick turnaround so I went to his shop, picked up the engine and paid him $388(over $100 more than he quoted me for the job). That same afternoon I ran the engine but it was worse than before, idled very high, had difficulty shifting into gear and would occasionally shut off. I immediately let him know but he told me that I needed to let the new fluids run through and that once everything burned off it would be back to normal. Fast forward two weeks and still no improvement. I contacted him again and he said that he'd take care of it. This is where things got bad. He said he couldn't duplicate the issues in his shop so he'd meet me at my slip the following day at 9am which was October 8. He was a no show and didn't even have the decency to call and let me know. Its a 45 min drive from my house to the marina so rather inconsiderate. I call him, he offers no apology but says he'll be there the next morning. Once again he was a no show. That happened 4 times before he finally came on October 15th. He looked things over and agreed that it wasn't running right but said that he wasn't able to fix the issue there and would need to take the carburetor back to his shop but would have it done and replaced in a day or two. I dealt with 3 weeks of his lies repeatedly telling me that he'd take care of it tomorrow. Obviously that never happened and then last week he stopped answering my calls or responding to texts all together. Finally November 4th I contacted the Marina Del Rey sheriff to see what my options where. I'm not sure if they contacted him or if it was just coincidence but about an hour later I had a text from him saying that I could pick up the unserviced carburetor from a box on his front porch. So now I have a disassembled carburetor and an unusable outboard for my trip to Catalina this weekend. It's unfortunate because he seemed like a decent guy at the beginning. If I had to guess, my assumption would be drugs. His behavior seemed consistent with an addict. Trying to earn my business he was friendly and responsive but once he got paid it was all lies until he finally cut off communication and tried to steal from me. Do better Chad
