We were at our wits end and getting discouraged as this was a new engine with less than 100 hours on it. As my wife works in the industry at a business with a similar name, we reached out to see if they could figure out what was causing our issue. Derek was very helpful and courteous as well as thorough with the inspection process. After a couple of days he figured out that water flow was being restricted at the transom due to a clogged inlet that was described simply as "mush". We obtained a new transom and had it installed. Derek called us up and said there was no more steam, the temp was back to normal and the motor was running fine. After picking up the boat, we took it to Elsinore for a test run with no issues. What a relief. For the scope of work performed, the cost was reasonable. That being said, everyone knows what BOAT means! Lol. Since that time I have owned several boats and have dealt with different brokers, and what I found was that a lot of brokers were not too forth coming with detailed help when it came to purchasing a boat. A few years back I reached out to JR and wanted to purchase a 2008 Formula 350 SS. I was ready to buy it when JR told me I needed to do my due diligence and have the boat surveyed and checked out to see if it had any issues, He gave me names of Surveyors and Mechanics that he trusted and valued. After reviewing both the boat and engines surveys, and with the boat having some issues just like all used boat. JR was very helpful with the negotiations making sure a fair selling price was agreed by both seller and buyer covering any repairs that were safety matters and needed to be addressed. My wife, who doesn't trust a sole, looks out for me because, as she says I look through rose colored glasses, and she put JR to the test, and JR knew that if my wife didn't trust him, she would put him through the wringer. When my wife and I were ready to step up to a bigger boat, JR was the first one I called. He explained to me in detail how bigger boats require more attention than little boats and wanted us to be aware of that. He educated me on what to look for and steered me away from what he felt were not quality boats. 6 months ago, I stepped up to a 45' boat and JR was there for us every step of the way. We looked at many boats, and he wouldn't let us settle for just anything. Again, he helped us with the negotiations to make sure we purchased it at a good price. I got a used motor and it went bad within the 30 day warranty. Brad offered to trade it in for…read moresame brand (Johnson) and same horsepower (115) for a newer year, 1986 for a 1989. Sounded good to me. Unfortunately for me, this engine blew out while I was starting it in my drive way. It was about 3 months past the warranty, I called Brad to take a look at it to find out what was wrong and have it fixed. He took a look at it and then never got back to me. I called Elio and he told me Brad didn't want work on it and it was probably my fault it went out. WTF. That was in February. Now I got to get someone else to fix it and need to get them info on it. So I go look up serial number. Turns out this Johnson was not an 89, it was 1979. My impression of their used outboard business is this: They get the motors working, slap it on your boat, and hope it lasts past the 30 day warranty. I am super disappointed. I could say more but I am done typing. Check my profile. I never leave reviews. I felt my experience with Amber Marine was so bad I felt compelled to leave this review. They suck.
