I was hesitant about writing this review, but I think it's important to share an honest experience. Lighting: The lighting throughout the gym is very harsh--extremely white--and combined with the white walls, it creates an uncomfortable environment. Lighting in a gym isn't just aesthetic; it directly affects safety, performance, mood, and the overall workout experience. Equipment Condition: A significant amount of the cardio equipment is not functional. It's frustrating to see equipment moved from the old location to the new one without being properly repaired. Many machines are in poor condition and need maintenance or adjustment. TVs: All the TVs display the same content, which feels repetitive and uninspired. It would be a big improvement to include a variety of options like music videos, workout-related YouTube channels, educational fitness content, or even news. Music: The music selection is consistently heavy metal, which may not appeal to everyone and can be demotivating for many members. Music plays a major role in workouts--it boosts performance, increases motivation, reduces perceived effort, and helps maintain focus. A mix of genres like EDM, house, pop, and remixes (typically in the 120-140 BPM range) would create a more inclusive and energizing atmosphere. Warm-Up / Stretching Area: The stretching area is too small and cluttered with unnecessary equipment. It would benefit from better organization and the addition of useful items like resistance bands. The current layout negatively impacts the overall experience. Safety Concerns: The hallways leading to the bathrooms are overcrowded with equipment and tools, making the space feel unsafe. In the event of an emergency evacuation, this could become a serious issue and would likely be flagged during a safety inspection. Functional Trainers: Many of the cable machines are in poor condition and need maintenance. Some have uneven cable resistance or mismatched thickness between sides, which directly affects workout performance and balance. Bathrooms: Basic supplies like paper towels are often missing. Additionally, signage encouraging proper use (e.g., not disposing of gum or trash in urinals) would help maintain cleanliness. Water Access: There should be a proper water dispenser for filling bottles. Relying only on water fountains is not practical for members during workouts and doesn't meet basic expectations for convenience. Front Desk Staff: The front desk staff could significantly improve their attitude. They are often not welcoming, which sets a negative tone from the moment you walk in. As the face of the gym, they should create a friendly and professional first impression for members. Overall: The gym has lost the strong bodybuilding atmosphere that made the previous location stand out. Right now, the experience doesn't match expectations. I would recommend management visit facilities like Mass Underground or Olympus Gym for inspiration on layout, equipment quality, and overall environment. Thought they would at least have some new machines and equipments since they are in a new location but all the machines are extremely old and dumb bells are rusty. If you have a cut on your hands, I don't know about touching those rusty metals. The rowing machine seat was wobbly. The handle was sticky even after wiping it before use. The staff there is very friendly, they actually know what they're doing. My only complaint would be management. They're not there all the time and come around make the environment tense, I only have one guest that comes with me every time I come, which is daily and it's my wife the entire staff knows that it doesn't make her check in every single time that I come but the manager who just popped out of nowhere, makes an issue gotta know your clients and treat your regulars like regulars read more

Bayshore Athletic Club in Braintree Ma has everything for every kind of membe. tons of machines and weight, cardio equipment and classes. very friendly starting with the front desk, the owner and the members. Great for hardcore lifters and older guys who used to be hardcore like myself as their are tons of different machines to use. the gym is also extremely clean and well kept after. Anyone complaining about this place is either a snoot or someone who's really mad at themselves for not finding the time or desire to go and exercise. I've been going to the gym here in Massachusetts now for 43 years since 1982 and can't find a single thing to complain about with this place. 5 stars! read more

This gym is the BEST in every way! I went there for 8 years but just recently moved to a new area of the state. I do miss it a lot!! They have tons of all kinds of equipment . In fact , you can fit the average gym in here about 3 times. And, you hardly have to wait in line to use something. Everybody is nice also. This is despite what Planet Fitness wants you to believe. READ BEFORE YOU SIGNUP! I wish I could post positively about Bayshore, but due to some recent communication with management regarding canceling a membership, I would caution someone to think twice when signing up for a membership with them. Their website is deceptive when looking at the paid in full memberships as it indicates a cancellation fee and partial refund if canceled. However, their website fails to mention that it is non-refundable, nor does their cancellation page display this. As the gym does not send over an electronic copy of your contract when you sign up in person, you have very little insight into what you're signing up for and your rights as a consumer. So if you do sign up, make sure you 100% understand your rights if you opt to cancel since they do not make it clear or easy to get this information. Regarding the facilities, yes, there is a wide range of equipment that you might not find elsewhere, but the place could use some renovations. When it rains, there are leaks from the roof throughout the facility. The new section that was built has poor air circulation, and in the rare instance the air conditioner units are running, it still doesn't help much with airflow or heat. In the summer, it is hot and humid, fans will run, but there is little to no a/c to really cool the entire space down, and in the winter, it gets cold, but usually, it isn't an issue since you're typically working up a sweat. read more

The gym was okay, has a very bodybuilder vibe to it which I do like but it was very hot which was hard to get a good workout in. There was ample equipment which was very nice but navigating around the buckets on the ground from a leaky roof, combined with no AC kinda ruined it for me. I was going to just deal with these issues until the 23 year old front counter guy tried to kiss me in the parking lot, after I declined (he's 7 years my junior ) he got very irrationally upset and said I asked for it because I was friendly which apparently means I want to make out. ‍ I don't do drama, the gym is a place for me to lift and release stress, not create it. So it's easy to close to door on BAC and look else where. Since then I've checked out a lot of other gyms, all which I thoroughly enjoy more. NorthEast in Quincy was nice and the same price and they have AC. Fit Factory in Braintree has memberships starting at $10 and was updated recently so all their equipment is new and pretty. And of course Crunch Fitness is opening right down the street from BAC, so there's plenty of options out there. BAC just isn't for me, but that's okay. They have plenty of members, and I have plenty of options. read more

I can only give it 3 stars. The cardio-equipment is maintained exceptionally well. Free Weights are phenomenal. They have have EVERY ASPECT one would expect from a gym. Their rates are right on target. They don't attract what other gyms do ($10/month membership)......in fact it's a tad more expensive, but that keeps out the riftraft jerks. So why only 3 stars? Because I don't think they own the space. I think it's a leased location. Why do I presume that? If they update their lockers from the actual rusty ratty metal.... from where they are now....... If you're like me, you hate going to the gym after a long day at work. You just wanted to do a leg workout but now you're waiting 30 minutes because there are only two squat racks and Jack is on his 20th set and Jim is on his phone and doing gymnastics in the other squat rack. $30 a month gets you a gym where you never have to wait for a squat rack, bench, or dumbbell ever again. There are like 10 benches with barbells, another 10+ free benches, 6-7 squat racks and multiple sets of each dumbbell (neatly organized). Tons of cardio space and machines as well. Finding motivation to workout can be hard enough. Don't go to a gym where you'll have the added stress of it being overcrowded. Invest in yourself, you deserve it. read more

I revised my earlier review. It's probably not for someone that prefers a Planet Fitness type of gym. That being said, it has plenty of cardio, weight lifting equipment, and parking. Thus I rarely have to wait for anything. It also has Crossfit, multiple fitness classes, and boxing. A wide variety of people are members. Bodybuilders, beginners, regular Joe's/Jane's that are trying to lose a few pounds or maintain their current body type. They will literally let you work out right until closing time. Unlike some places that try kicking people out about 15 minutes early. That can be useful when I arrive at the gym later than usual. The main reason why I won't give this place 5 stars is I think the maintenance can be better. It can get very hot during the summer and on occasion there is water leaking from the roof when it is raining. read more

This is one of the biggest gyms I've ever worked out in and it fits all my needs (and even some needs I don't even have). They have a huge cardio section (and a smaller cardio section), a large Smith machine section, a separate yoga studio, a large room for class workouts, a crossfit section, a separate stretch area, a large free weights area, a boxing area, a physical therapy section, and a spin class room. I know used the word large multiple times, but there's no way to accurately convey the size of this place, it's basically a big warehouse. Now it's certainly not a perfect place, but the cost for what's provided is amazing Pros: - 8 Squat racks, so minimal to no wait time - a crazy amount of dumbbells - a super laid back (some would even say un-enthused) staff - if they know you're a regular, they basically allow you a lot of flexibility - free usage of boxing area as long as there are no classes at the time - free usage of class fitness room when there are no classes - members are also laid back and helpful - daycare available during certain hours - smoothie kitchen (I've never used and never will, but I think it's a nice feature) Cons: - the men's locker room is one of the worst smells I've ever smelled. I don't know what it is, I don't know if the staff notice or care, but it's awful/terrible. Even when you walk by it the stench is noticeable (never been in the women's room, but I hear it's fine) - not the cleanest place, although much improved since new management. It's certainly not dirty, but with such a large facility and low prices, it's easy to see how things can fall through the cracks. Again, not a terrible place now, but there are certainly some corners that seem to be overlooked. - some equipment is old, not much, but a few items here and there could use some updating. Again, it hasn't affected my workouts, but I know some people prefer newer equipment Interesting: - there are some people on the weekends that like to either take their picture shirtless while working out or get their pics/videos taken of them while working out for some sort of workout highlight reel. It's not a con or a pro, I just find it interesting that it happens. Bottom line: I really enjoy this gym, I've been coming for a few years and it's been very reliable for me. And I've visited multiple gyms to just find basic equipment at an affordable price, which you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a gym that provides a pull up bar and barbells. Oddly enough, incredibly difficult. Combine that with an open boxing area for member use and low cost, I've enjoyed it here. Plus, the staff are so laid back that I've brought in guests and they didn't take any names, so I could have brought them for multiple visits with them never catching on (I havent). For the members of Blue Hill Fitness who may have had their memberships transferred here, buyer beware. Although in Braintree, Bay Shore is a hike from Wood Road. The gym is old, dirty and the work staff not enthused, If a member of Blue Hill Fitness, take the summer off and hit the roads until you figure out where you want to work out. Don't rush into Bayshore or any of the gyms which are testing out CrossFit. read more

Well, as a quick follow up to my previous post, I'm sad to say that I will no longer be visiting Bayshore Athletic Club. The problems that existed in their facility were never really fixed, and more importantly, So Fly Fitness has moved. (It seems like they were forced out, but I don't know the back story on that...) Bayshore says they will be offering a full schedule of Zumba classes with some of their former instructors (some of whom taught Johnna's program) but these classes will still be an additional charge above and beyond the gym membership. I've taken class with some of these instructors before, and they certainly don't motivate me the way that Johnna did with So Fly Fitness! It's really too bad... this gym was fairly convenient for me from Quincy, but I'd rather drive out of my way to Holbrook to take a So Fly Fitness class than the waste my money at Bayshore. But don't take my word for it...Try both for yourself, and you'll see the difference! read more

I have been a member of the Bayshore Athletic club since December. I have always been petite, never watched what I ate ( am a junk food addict esp. chips), and although I played sports in high school. In college, I just became lazy, ya know too busy drinking and staying up late at night trying to finish papers. But now that I am getting older, gosh I am going to be 30 next year (2011)! I realize that my metabolism is not what it used to be. My flat abs have gotten a little flabby and I actually feel fat( even tho I only weight about a buck oh five) please don't hate me. I know I am not fat, its just the fact that I am not tone. Ok that's better. Anyway, so I finally after telling myself if I look good, I will feel good, I joined a gym because God knows I will not work out at home. I did try p90x, but its hard trying to motivate myself after a long day at work to pop in the dvd, although occasionally I will do their cardio X cuz I think that shizz rocks. Anyway, so Bayshore is a huge gym. For 29.99/month with a sign up free, I get full access to the equipment and classes. They have other price options but i find that this one was the cheapest if you plan to commit for a year. They offer spinning, yoga, cardio sculpt, and many others. The only classes that you have to pay for are zumba, boxing, and judo. I don't get to the gym till 630/7ish and most classes begin around 6 ( like spin). Zumba is at 7 and boy, you have never seen so many ladies waiting in line. It is real popular but I have yet to try it. It hardly is ever full or packed. Sometimes there are more people on a given day but there is so many treadmills, bikes, elliptals machines, that you never have to wait for any cardio. Weights are the same way, they have a huge free weight area, and its never crowded. Bayshore just has about everything you need. The only thing that doesn't make it perfect is the fact that they don't have a pool. I wish they did. Staff here is ok. When I joined, there isn't an introduction. More like here sign this and give me your credit card. When I brought my bf here as a guest, they were talking him up and seeing what his interests were. Hmm, I never got that! Locker room are clean and plenty of lockers, well sometimes it gets a little frustrating because ppl will use the lockers and not have locks, so sometimes you have to open a few before you find an empty one. They also offer private changing areas if you don't feel comfortable changing in front of everyone. Parking is plenty. Sometimes you have a small walk, but honestly you came to the gym to work out and get buff, so a small walk won't hurt you. Overall, I am really happy with Bayshore and am glad I joined. They also make smoothies and offer a place where your kids can be watched while you get buff. read more

I am a newer member of this gym, but after bouncing around different gyms over the past two years I can definitely say this place is great. If you live in the Braintree area and need a gym, the quality & price of this location makes it your best choice. Pros: Massive facility with lots of machines (never a wait), clean locker rooms, diverse class schedule, lots of staff always around, big tvs, and the price is great ($30/month). Cons: I mainly do cardio and there is a large quantity of treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes, but they aren't the modern versions. Also, there isn't a big enough variety of different types of each. I would love to see one of the stair machines that I fell in love with at BSC and some of the stepper/ellipticals. Also, a lot of the regulars hang around and chat in the middle of the workout area making it hard to access some of the weight equipment. This gym definitely caters to a person serious about strength training. There are so many different types of machines and lots of free weights. This definitely scared me at first as the members have been rude to me at times. I was given a half hour with a trainer up front who showed me how to use some of the machines and what circuits to do, but if I even enter the weight area I get stared down. This also may have to do with the ratio of men to women. When I go in the afternoon during the week I am usually the only female or one of 2 or 3 in sight. On weekends it usually shifts with women all over the cardio equipment. Even with the sometimes awkward glances I still feel very comfortable at this gym. For $30 a month and the wide open feel I am definitely a huge fan of this location. read more

I love Bayshore- Best gym in Braintree. The classes are great; especially spin class. The gym is relaxed but still upbeat. I was dissappointed that they took the sauna out of the womans locker room and it is a bit expensive ($45 a month) so right now i go to a gym in Quincy (for $20 a month) but at some point when i have the money may switch back. They also let college students put there memberships on hold when they are away and activate them again when home- i have not found many gyms that do that. read more

Bayshore Athletic Club ("BAC" to those in the know) is a great gym. I've been a member ($29/mo) for about four years, and I keep driving down even after a move to Dorchester. The facility is massive. It's a disused factory, with an old-school exposted-concrete vibe. There are infinite free weights and machines. Seriously, I've never seen anyone have to wait for anything. I joined for the Judo club. The gym provides space to several club sports including Judo, Boxing, and Tai Kwon Do. Each of those three has its own dedicated mat or training area - there's that much space. There's a strong Zumba and Spinning community as well. A number of pretty serious athletes train here, including several competitive bodybuilders. Guests are absolutely welcome with no hassle at all. You sign a waiver and you're in. This makes it great for the judo club, because we can have guests basically at will without the gym hassling them to sign up. The atmosphere is the opposite of a commercial chain like Bally's and their hard-sell. There's a strong personal training program. If you're looking for a trainer, I can recommend Tommy. He's the bomb. read more

This is the absolute best gym ever, I could sit here all day and type up 100 reasons why, but im about to go do legs so I don't have the time. With that being said, I will still lay out a few. This gym has tons of equipment/ weights, and memberships are very fair priced. Plenty of free weight, as well as machines and cardio equipment. The staff are all friendly, and so are the people who go there. There's plenty of benches and squat racks, and a ton of dumbells. I recently moved, and as a result was forced to go gym shopping in the canton/stoughton area. I went to four different gyms, and all were inferior to bayshore, and when I say inferior, I mean none of them were even close! Now im not saying these four gyms were necessarily bad, but bayshore is just so much better. I highly recommend this gym to anyone in the area. read more

Long winded review Now ......Honestly Pros/Cons as a fair person. front desk workers are super friendly & the gym is really big! The protein shakes Corina makes are sooo gooodddddd and she was very nice/warm. that being said the equipment is very old. Their training rates are reasonable and I recently relocated so it was close by. I figured I would try it out I went for 6 weeks of personal training. With every intention of becoming and staying a full time member. I have had trainers in the past when I lived else where nothing but professional positive experiences. At this gym in the short time I knew her My trainer was very unprofessional in that she constantly talked about other gym members to me whether calling them freaks, weirdos, saying they smelt or commenting on how ppl are "Coocoo birds" when they come say hi to her and that she used to train them but refuses too cause they are crazy so she keeps lying & says she's full. I just kept my comments to myself as it was supposed to be a professional relationship and the comments made me feel uncomfortable since I don't know the other persons side and I'm just here to get a release & work out. Not gossip or socialize. However one day I went to attend a class being held by the trainer who asked me to attend stating the class is never full. A couple hours before The trainer told me she was sick & unsure if she was attending. I asked if I should call the gym later to follow up on the status of the class because I knew she was sick and didn't want to bother her. She stated that it would either be held by someone else or they might cancel it via text I replied that I hope the she feels better and that I figured it might be cancelled if they couldn't find a replacement. The trainer I still had a couple sessions booked with got super defensive about being sick stating she was allowed to be sick and abruptly telling me she couldn't train me anymore. Again I only went to this gym for under two months. I do not know if it is because the trainer is going threw a divorce that she was so defensive however I think it is super unprofessional too 1)talk about gym members to another client 2) Get defensive or read into simple inquiring text of a customer... 3)to start someone with training and a month later claim you cannot out of the blue for no reason. This is a professional NOT personal business and so interactions should be assumed to be professional at all times!! read more

Bayshore is the best gym in the Boston area. South of the city, it can be a bit of a haul in traffic during rush-hour, but worth it. HUGE open warehouse space full of the best bodybuilding equipment and TONS of free-weights. Great cardio section too, if that's your thing. Friendly atmosphere and clean locker rooms. An old-school, non-corporate gym owned by a real bodybuilder. Protein and juice bar at the front. Reasonable membership rates. Everyone from senior citizens and folks looking to lose a few pounds, all the way up to competitive bodybuilders and Cross-Fit crowd are welcome and respected. Love this gym. read more

I had a temporary 1 month membership to Bayshore Athletic Club. Though they have a lot of equipment, the gym had an old feel to it. The cardio equipment was extensive, but the Stationary bikes were in disrepair. I did report it twice to the guy at the front desk, and on the 2nd attempt he pointed me to some cards on display, and told me to fill out one of them. I felt like saying, hey Dunderhead, I am telling you, do your job ! But he was more into socializing at the front counter then doing his job. I asked another guy if they had any foot straps for the stationary bikes, and he quickly responded no, and looked away. In summation, the gym is OK, but the staff could show more of a pulse, and the equipment could be checked and repaired on a regular basis. read more

I joined this gym in 2010 and I was a member for about a year. Pros: Huge workout space, friendly patrons (for the most part), great personal trainers (I worked with Tommy G a few times and he was great- really challenged me, positive guy, great advice), never crowded, surprisingly not intimidating despite the well toned patrons Cons: 1. Lack of certain equipment. It seems this gym is catered toward muscleheads and for a 120lb girl like myself there are not a whole lot of options. Smaller weights were difficult to find, no resistance bands of any kind, no foam rollers. I brought it to the attention of the staff a couple times as a suggestion and the reply was- we won't be getting any- they get stolen. The few small weights they had were rusty and really gross. 2. Smell/Cleanliness I don't know what is up with the cleaning staff here but it is downright GROSS. The mat area where you can do stretching etc. is visibly dirty and without fail every time I was over there I would kill 2 or 3 large ants. I started bringing my own yoga mat (because they don't have any mats out in that area- the only ones are in the exercise studio I was told by staff) and after going for about 2 months the mat was also visibly dirty. So disgusting. It also smells very mildewy in various spots throughout the gym. Based on what I saw, I don't think anything is cleaned. Ever. Patrons don't seem to clean anything either. 3. Other- What really bothered me at this gym was the general attitude of the staff. I joined a biathlon class on Saturdays that cost extra, and the music that was used was graphic and vulgar beyond anything I have ever heard... honestly I have no problem with explicit lyrics but when songs repeat sadistic lyrics using the f word over and over again at a scream, it doesn't motivate me, it makes me sick. I felt like I was at satanic cult meeting or something. After a couple classes I seriously could not even focus on the class because the music was so disturbing, so I mentioned it to the teacher. She seemed very receptive and at the next class she skipped over the more graphic songs. I thought the problem was solved but at the next class the music was back. I approached her again, and her response was pretty cold- if you don't like the music, leave. She even said she has had people before that have been bothered and she isn't willing to change it. Really? What a lousy customer service approach. So customers have complained in the past, and you don't care. Nice. I advised I wouldn't be continuing. No pro-rated refund for the last few classes or any kind of apology that things didn't work out. I left this gym with a very sour taste in my mouth.... if they cleaned it up and seemed to care more about what their customers want I would be back. read more

I'm 30 years old and have been working out since my high school days. Simply put this is the best gym I've ever been a member of. No, its not for everyone. Somewhat of a dungeon feel, its basically an old warehouse. Most everyone here is very serious about working out. If that intimidates you then you should probably stick to your local Planet Fitness. There is so much equipment here you will never have to wait on anything. They also have tires of all sizes which you wont find many other places. Seriously all they need to make this place great is music. The music is terrible small selection of pop music. Music is so easy to change, but they do the same stuff the whole time. Type "workout playlist" into anything, YouTube, Pandora, Spotify, ITunes, and they would have way better music. Please please give us good music! read more
