The vast majority of my Yelp reviews over the years have been 5 stars (on the order of 90%+). When I have a bad experience, I try to write it off. Everyone has a bad day, live and let live. But occasionally, service is so terrible and offensive I feel compelled to leave a factually accurate, very poor review. Unfortunately, my recent experience with Bayshore falls squarely into this category. I won't go into great detail, but when a critical component of our steam shower (which we purchased at great expense from Bayshore) failed, I reached out to them for help. What ensued was a months-long comedy of errors, ordering of the wrong part by Bayshore (I confirmed this directly with the manufacturer, Amerac, whom I was left to deal with on my own) and - most frustratingly - lack of acknowledgement from Bayshore that they had ordered the wrong part despite the manufacturer and their service rep. clearly stating it would not work with my shower model. What really tipped the scales was when I went to simply return the unused part and was met with ridicule and contempt. I kid you not, the other reviewers who make such claims about Bayshore are probably being accurate. I had to get extremely vocal just to get a simple (and small) refund. This precise Bayshore ordering/return issue has been widely documented in other 1-star reviews (see, e.g., John B.'s review, Storm R.'s review, etc.). It was one of the most unpleasant retail experiences I've had in years. I'd echo others and say if you are a contractor and know what you want and don't need any after-purchase or warranty support and the price is right (their pricing is a whole different issue - see many reviews), maybe go with Bayshore. For everyone else, I'd proceed with great caution. This review is 100% factually accurate and I can back it up with pictures and written documentation of the wrong part Bayshore ordered and then refused to return (until I got way more aggressive than I ever like to be). TOTALLY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE: PRICES, SERVICE, RESPONSIVENESS For a complete bathroom remodel, I ordered several thousand dollars worth of plumbing parts, fan, towel warmer, sinks, etc. The contractor discount we received on everything was excellent. The advice was good. The delivery of everything was timely. And when I had a couple of small problems, they were promptly helpful. We went here in Dec 24th, after calling and confirming that the showroom was open until 2pm. When we walked in, none of the 5 people working there looked up, said hello or in any way tried to help. After waking around for a few minutes, I walked to a lady at a desk, who told me to get help from a lighting salesperson. Richard stood up as I walked there, but his expression suggested we were a big inconvenience. 2 of them were eating lunch at their desks. When I asked him for options for our kitchen and dining area, he showed me two on his computer, but couldn't answer any of my questions regarding lumens output. His coworker / maybe manager asked him if he wanted a specs binder, to which he didn't respond, and she also told him to speak up. After 10 minutes of this, we left - they were clearly not interested in helping us even though they were open and working. I went to City Lights SF 2 days later (Dec 26th), and had the best experience. Save yourselves the time and trouble, and avoid Bayshore Supply. read more

I have been using Bayshore for quiet sometime. Usually the San Carlos and San Francisco location. Both the locations are great at getting resources and information. Really helpful in figuring out what material you'll need and they are quick on call in orders. When ordering parts for speed it's best to know what you need and you will get in and out quick. Needed to replace a hard to find light. Called the San Carlos store after finding them online and got Dave. He asked for a picture and email, which I promptly sent. He responded as promptly that they didn't carry it, and also sent a link to where I could buy it online. That kind of service, helping out a customer when there is no benefit in it for the short-term is a true sign of high customer service. The customer service was ok the first time. I gave them the part number, and they gave me the wrong bulbs anyway, and even said they d/c it. Apparently there's different nubs to light bulbs when I went back to my office to switch it, and it was the type. So I went back to return it. On their receipt it doesn't say you can't return items if it was bought incorrectly. Mind you the staff helped me, and they still gave me the wrong part number. Do NOT COME HERE!!! if you do, make sure your 100% right about your part number or else you will lose money and they didn't even apologize. You've been warned. They should at least say in the receipt final sale!! It's the principle of it not the price since I bought this for work, and it's not my money they took but I'm still freaking upset!!! Last year I bought two outdoor lights at $500 apiece. They were on the showroom floor. They checked the back and were out of stock. So they ordered two for me. I brought them home unopened. An electrician was able to fix my previous outdoor lights, so I went to return the two new lights and they refused return indicating that all orders are final and non-refundable. These are fixtures that they display on their floor and usually have in stock. I went there in order to avoid the box store Home Depot across the street. Home Depot would have allowed returns, no question. I know box stores have the ability to stock and return more. But this light order really was not a special order. They are lights on the showroom they sell continuously. Finally, they were pleasant and service friendly to get the sale, but their tone changed dramatically when I tried to return the lights. I now tell my friends, you are better off going across the street to Home Depot to buy your fixtures. It is not uncommon when repairing a house that you need to return something. I was shopping for a new Toto toilet and came across Bayshore on the Toto website. They had one of the best selections of Toto toilets and all the information taped to each model. The other showrooms omit this information. I had an unusual situation since the tile floor under my toilet was damaged, and I would not know the extent, until the new toilet was being installed. Amandeep allowed me to purchase two, each with a different size base, and allowing me to return the one that did not work out. She processed my full return the next day. She also recommended the Gert from Bell Plumbing; who was awesome!!!! Amandeep is amazingly responsive and positive and accommodating with every request. This place is conveniently located off 101 with plenty of parking. It sells electrical, plumbing, and various fixtures. The showroom is a mess and u need to sort it out. It's hard to see items when everything is mixed together and there is no rhyme or reason to their madness. As a result, you have to talk to the people seated near the entryway. The electrical guys are pleasant enough, but the woman named May in charge of plumbing is not helpful. You can call her and leave messages and send her emails, but at the end she won't be contacting you, as a result, I decided to spend my money elsewhere. I suppose if you want bad service (from her) and not get your questions answered, then this is the place for you. For your electrical needs, the guys are better than her by light years. Price wise, they are about the same as others. Sometimes, I found it cheaper to buy the items on Ebay. read more

This place also shows up under "Bayshore Lights" This is where your electrician goes to get electrical supplies and some household lighting . For some reason, they also sell toilets. They have 2 sales people and you're always waiting in line. Their prices are rediculous and their "showroom" is dirty. Somehow, this lighting showroom also manages to be poorly lit. They are usually out of stock on many things and their service sucks, unless you can find Mike, who is awesome. But, if you're an electrician looking for specific parts, good for you. You can shop here all day long. The rest of us will go to LampsPlus or Home Depot--and yelp about it. read more

I went to Bayshore for lighting for a major remodel with some trepidation based on prior reviews. My experience could not have been better. Richard was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about LED lighting and took a fair amount of time explaining things. Michael was a fountain of knowledge regarding radio Ra (Lutron automation). I merely mentioned this in passing and Michael appeared as if magic. Not only knowledgeable, but pleasant and patient. They both saved me MANY hours of research as what I want to do is not your run of the mill lighting, and I wanted to do this myself rather than pay for a fancy installer. Was just there to pick up some parts from the back, and also to browse their lighting on the front. PARTS I called on the phone looking for a specific part. The call was answered on the first ring, and they knew exactly what I was talking about. (This isn't universally true locally...) When I went in, it was clear where to go and what to do. I didn't have to wait that long. They also sell common plumbing parts here. Note that they don't have as broad a solution as a plumbing specialty house would, when it comes to things like adapters. But the basics are there, and they carry some good lines. LIGHTING I browsed their selection and liked that they carry some modern lines. It looks like they've updated parts of the showroom. I was interested in lighting design help, and the gentleman encouraged me to bring my plans in, and that he'd be able to make suggestions, which sounds good. I was hoping they'd have a service like the folks at the lighting place in Mountain View, where for a fee they come out to your place in the evening with lights to see how you like them, but looks like they don't do that yet. When I tested transformer at home, discovered was AC transformer and not DC When I returned transformer, same sales guy said " can you not read". And there is not a manager to give review. read more

Our water heater from Bayshore started leaking and they wouldn't take back the product even though it was still under warranty and the manufacturer and distributor both directed me to the place I purchased it from (Bayshore). Unbelievably bad customer experience here. I placed a large order for ladscape lights, and those arrived in the time they promised. But that's where the good part ends. A few days later I needed to order two more additional lights. The sales associate assured me they could be there in 3 business days or so. The short story is that I got the lights THREE WEEKS later than they promised, had a store associate treat me with total disrespect, and they actually had the nerve to try to overcharge me for them ($15 more per light than I originally paid - I caught the mistake). I was furious. Here's the more detailed account: After I placed the 2nd order (for just 2 more lights - of the exact variety I had already purchased), I didn't hear from the sales associate for over two weeks. He had said he would call once they came in, likely in 3 days or so. I left 4 messages with other store associates, and one actual voicemail on his mailbox (the one time it wasn't full). I finally ended up talking to a different store associate who was able to look up my order, and discovered that MY ORDER HAD NEVER BEEN PLACED! So he re-sent the order, and assured me they would be in within a few days. All this while I'm trying to juggle and apologize to my landscape guy who I have been trying to schedule to come install the lights. When I finally reached the original sales associate I had worked with (over three weeks later), he actually had the audacity to imply that it was MY fault that the order went 'missing.' He claimed that because I called several times, I got different stories from each person - which somehow screwed things up??? I was incredibly frustrated, got heated on the phone and told him that to imply that my diligence in following up somehow made me culpable in the whole thing was downright rude. They have lost me as a customer for sure. I will not return - and I'd recommend no one else give them business until they figure out how to treat their customers. read more

I would give this store a "ZERO STAR" rating if it was an option with Yelp! DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE!!!!!! IT IS A COMPLETE RIP OFF, ESPECIALLY IF YOU NEED TO RETURN SOMETHING. I purchased a 3/4 HP disposal and later found out I needed a 1 HP disposal. Since the store was closed by the time the plumbers got to the disposal installation, I had to purchase another disposal at Home Depot which was open until 9:00 pm. (BTW - Home Depot prices are CHEAPER than this store, even with their "supposed discount".) I returned the 3/4 HP disposal to Bayshore Supply & Lights and they charged me 3% for returning something purchased using a credit card, and - this is the really unbelievably obnoxious part - they wanted to charge me a 25% "restocking charge", even though the disposal was not special order and they already had it on their shelf. It was completely new and unopened. PLUS, the way they calculated the restocking charge, they included the SALES TAX as part of the restocking fee!!! I complained to the manager and they reduced the restocking fee to 10%, but I still think that was completely unreasonable for a stock item. If you are not a contractor, they treat you VERY RUDELY, so I advise to STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE!!!! Good luck getting this woman to answer the phone. she says that she prefers email, but even that is a long shot. Long story short I think she actually tried to sabotage my order once they messed it up so many times. I needed a tub delivered, and it took three times before, yes you got it was delivered wrong again. I am now trying to get paid back the money they owe me. Terrible customer service because you need to go there knowing EXACTLY what you want. They will not let you leave a deposit and take something home to see how it looks in your house... or buy something and return it if the colors don't match your home. I went to Lamps Plus and they were more than willing to let me take lights home, see how it looked and I could return them with no cost to me if they didn't look good. I just went in to pick up a part that my electrician already had on hold for me. But they were prompt in responding to my email inquiries, and when I went in the store I received quick and efficient service. True, its really more of a store for working electricians and tradespeople who already have a good idea of what they want, and is not meant to be a glitzy display for newbie consumers needing a lot of information and coddling. Sometimes when you go to big box hardware stores they don't have a full range of merchandise, and oftentimes cater towards the least expensive solutions. Whereas here, they have a LOT of inventory running the gamut from inexpensive to high end, and can likely get their hands on anything you might be looking for, and they clearly know their stuff! read more

This place is the definition of "OK". They have good pricing on some items and horrible pricing on others. They are knowledgeable and at the same time ignorant of some types of lighting. If you know what type of lighting/fixture you need and you've priced it out, bayshore is a good place to check out. If you are still on the fence on lighting and have no idea about pricing, its best to try somewhere else. Also important to note, they have a very strict return policy. I have done business with suppliers for other parts, such as Royal Electric (always outstanding), so I have a fair basis of comparison. THE REVIEW: NEGATIVE THREE STARS WOULD BE AN ACCURATE RATING FOR BAYSHORE SUPPLY AND LIGHTS. AVOID THIS SUPPLIER FOR PLUMBING PARTS. The staff of Bayshore Supply and Lights are rude and incompetent. Our contractor, our plumber, my husband and I have made several attempts to order a standard plumbing part, both in person and over the phone. Keep in mind that we knew EXACTLY WHAT PART WAS NEEDED. All of our orders - 100% - have been mishandled or rebuffed: "lost", delayed and talk about the run-around. If I had a dime for every time we were asked to "Call back in 10 minutes". Right. Guess what happens when you call back in ten minutes? You are told to "Call back in 10 minutes". This has already happened to my husband twice today and it is only 9.32 in the morning. When placing an order in person, the 4 guys at the counter huddle and then out maneuver Abbott and Costello's "Whose on First" - the classic comedy routine about the run-around. These guys are expert at delay tactics... anything to avoid just getting the damn part. I wish I had placed the initial order with another vendor (or better yet over the internet) before wasting a week with these incompetents. Ordered bulbs for a landscape project last year in June to be installed for a landscape project to be ready for Thanksgiving, given the run around for weeks and months, bulbs never came.
