Coast lighting was our 3rd stop in our quest for a mid century modern exterior light for our Eichler Home (more on that below). We have been here before and our experience kind of mirrors what we experienced before. Its a large store and had alot of staff around. The selection of high end lights was massive. That being said the customer service experience was odd. We were not greeted nor had any interaction or even a look as we milled about for the 15+ minutes we were in the store. Now don't get me wrong, I love a good greeting and introduction then leave us be. But this is the first place to really leave us be and it was a bit odd. Aside from that they had the best selection on display of the 4 stops we made today. Sometimes having a distinctive home is both a blessing and a curse. In our case we are lucky enough to own an Eichler. For those unfamiliar, Joseph Eichler was a developer (primarily in the SF Bay Area and LA) who between 1949 and 1966 built what is now termed Mid Century Modern or if you will "California Modern" tract homes. Taking cues from not only Frank Lloyd Wright, The Eames, et al, and the famous Case Study Homes they bought affordable high end architecture to the masses. All told over 11,000 of these homes were built. Given the distinct, love it or hate it style, changing stuff is difficult if you want it to look right. In this case with our recent (yes I did it all myself) exterior refresh we decided to correct a wrong with our exterior lighting and find something in character with the home. Good advice too on how to match colors/styles across a few light fixtures I was considering. Thank you! Completely unrelated: It would be sooo helpful if this store had at least one night a month that was open until 7pm or later on a weekday (or anytime during the weekend) -- I've been wanting to come here for months but could never make it during work hours. I had a major remodeling project which took about a year. I bought all my lighting fixtures and switches from Coast lighting. Greg, the owner, is very knowledgeable, helpful and flexible in doing business. Their store staff are professional, especially Emann who was very responsive and helpful .Their warehouse staff are pleasant and cooperative, especially Litto who is very friendly and knows where everything is. I am an electrician And contractor which I recommend my customers to buy their lights at this place. They have people that they rather converse with their coworkers than help me. As I came to the counter the sales person had no knowledge as I asked for an item they rather pushed me away than provide a solution. I will not recommend this place anymore. Emann is a wonderful lighting expert and I'm thankful to have met her. First time visiting Coast Lighting I had a small budget bathroom project. Knowing Coast Lighting as a pricier lighting dealer, Emann didn't pressuring me towards the higher end spending. Instead she took the time to explain the pros and cons of the selections and assure I'm getting what I needed. Retuned a second time few days ago looking for light bulbs, again she researched thoroughly making sure I'm getting the right bulb. The two bulbs I bought was only a $30 sale. Nice fixtures BUT beware no refunds even if unopened box. Restocking fees and mailing fees will be incurred even though order took over 6 weeks which was no fault on our part. I would give Coast Lighting 10 stars if I could. Greg and Brittney are fantastic at what they do, helpful and incredibly fast. From a contractor's perspective - Coast will quickly help with the lighting material needed for a job and happily schedule to meet with your clients to help with any lighting questions they may have. Amazing options here. Best lighting store in the Bay Area by far. We ordered a couple of chandeliers and they were custom ordered so it took a few months so make sure to shop early for these. Lighting is so important & one of the first things people comment on when seeing the space. Lots of compliments on our lighting. Lisa is wonderful and very very helpful. Since we're sheltering in place & spending a lot of time at home, we ended up doing a mini remodel where we changed out all of our chandeliers, pendants, and recessed lighting. I came here based on a recommendation from my interior designer and I wasn't disappointed. I worked with Sonia where she patiently showed me what my options were and what might work well in the high ceilings that I have over the dining room and stairwell. I was really impressed with her knowledge of lights and made sure that each light we picked was appropriate for the space. My dining room light also had to be rewired and extended in order to fit the space. And Coast Lighting had folks who can do this work. All the lights had to be ordered and they keep in touch with you to make sure you're aware if the lights will be delayed. On the delivery of the lights, Lito was on time, courteous, and every light was clearly marked for which room along with all the light bulbs to avoid any confusion and mix up. I had such a great experience at coast lighting. The store is absolutely gorgeous and the staff is smiling from the moment you walk in the door. Their lighting selection makes me want to go crazy because I want everything that I see! Brittany and Greg helped me with a specific chandelier that I wanted. The one I had my eye on was displayed right up front. I described what I was looking for and Brittany walked around the store with me to show me alternative options just in case I liked something better. I even got a chance to look at some bathroom lighting! The transaction was easy and painless and so was the installation. I was there this afternoon with a family member and we received such shockingly horrible customer service, that even though we picked out a lantern to be affixed to an outside post, we left before making the purchase. We spent an hour there and after being virtually ignored by a tall blonde man, we were finally approached by a Russian man called "Al," who promised to offer "quick help." He was half-right. "Al," was very difficult to comprehend and had very little knowledge. We looked through a catalogue and found the lighting fixture we were going to purchase, but "Al," continually left us for another customer who had just walked in. We waited and waited until he finally came back to us, but he only came back to inform us he needed to finish with the other customer who had just arrived, even though we were all ready to make the purchase. We waited 15 minutes, but after he failed to return to us, we left. I stared him down as we left, but he failed to acknowledge our presence even though he'd just cost his company a purchase for what would have been around $400. Never again. read more

My husband and I are currently doing a house rebuild, and we needed to shop for every light in our home, including pendants, wall sconces, exterior lights, flood lights, and under the counter tapes. Prior to visiting Coast Lighting, we visited 5 other stores all over the Bay Area, and we were unsure if Coast Lighting would deliver the lights we were looking for at the price that was within our budget. So with that said, if I can give this place more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. When we walked in, I couldn't believe how large this store was. They had so many amazing lights from dozens of vendors, and they even carried lights I was only able to see in catalogues at other stores. Just by casually browsing, you would think they only carried high-end lights, but they had everything, even for us shoppers with a budget in mind. We picked out most of our items that looked amazing, and high-end, but completely within our budget. Lastly, Brittany was our light specialist, and the amount of knowledge she had was incredible, and once we told her our design vision for our house, she knew exactly which line of lights we should be looking at. We left the store last week feeling very accomplished and a large weight had been lifted off of our shoulders. I highly recommend anyone in need of lights to visit Coast Lighting. read more

Coast Lighting provided us with great customer service, in spite of many of the specialists working from home during this Coronavirus of 2020. They helped us select 3 modern ceiling lights for our 3 bedrooms. Then they sent their installation specialist , Juan Carlos Dominguez to perform the 3 installations. JC prepared all his materials, laid down a tarp in each room, climbed a ladder, removed the old light fixture carefully, installed each new one, tested each, and cleaned up everything. Well done! Later, we realized one connection was not working properly. Coast Lighting sent Juan Carlos back to us within one day later. He checked everything out, corrected everything, and now our beautiful new lights work perfectly. Thank you to Manager, Greg Belyavski and your team at Coast Lighting, for your terrific advice, and especially for your excellent after-sale customer service. I read a lot of reviews that complain about the inattentive sales staff at Coast Lighting. I understand what they are miffed about...they do seem to be understaffed and its hard to get the attention of the sales guy. BUT once the sales guy (Albert) got my attention, he was very knowledgeable and stuck with me through a number of inquiries. We were there for over an hour, and walked out with a solid quote. I followed up with further questions by email, and he promptly responded. I'm sure that the people who were wandering around waiting for a salesman were unhappy, but at least I was happy. Haha. I met with the store manager, Deanna, today at the construction site of our 6300 square foot home. We have tens of thousands of dollars worth of lighting to purchase for the house. It was a pleasant meeting and I felt pretty good about the visit until Deanna turned to the business of collecting her $100 consultation fee. I expected this fee but was told that the fee would be applied toward ANY purchase from her store. However, after recording my credit card information on her notepad, she informed me that the $100 fee couldn't be applied against the purchase of the $300 chandelier we were interested in. She said only "about $40" could go towards that fixture. All I could do was stare at her and blink in amazement. Really? With many THOUSANDS of potential dollars at stake, you're going to squeeze a serious customer for sixty bucks? I have no confidence that this store is serious about customer service. It was worth $100 to learn that we DON'T want to waste our time doing business with this company. read more

I'm obsessed over DWR's Cellula chandelier but unfortunately it would not work in our space because I wanted to put it above the kitchen island and it is the same length as the island. Visually...having the bar chandelier the same size as the island isn't ideal. So I've been looking for a shorter alternative for a long time. James R. Moder makes one but I don't like the look and shape of their crystals. It seemed like it was my only alternative however and I was very close to buying it at lampsplus. Fortunately, I decided to check out Coast first before pulling the trigger on the James R. Moder version. They had another version by Elegant Designs that is 40 inches long (perfect size). The price and customer service was wonderful too. I arrived only 30 minutes before closing but Neil was very patient and helpful. He even took the time to show me different colored bulbs on the bigger floor model so that I can get an idea of what bulbs I want. I went with whiter since it makes the crystals look more sparkly. Coast Lighting is a great store - I am not sure what the deal is with the bad reviews. They have good, competitive pricing, a giant selection (a small library of catalogues), and most important of all: great customer service. Everyone is friendly and willing to help. We spent 5 hours there picking out lighting for all parts of our house, and Alex, the owner, was with us the whole way. Everything arrived fairly quickly, and Alex did not try to sell us on a quick delivery of goods if it wasn't happening :). We had a small part break at home and Alex replaced it free of charge, no questions asked. When the new part arrived it was not 100% ready for use, so Greg fixed it for us right on the spot. Service was non-existent. Regardless, the selection was not amazing either. Designs were similar to IKEA with showroom prices. Basic lamps for 1k? I don't know who would pay that much. We came here for pendant lights and didn't see anything we liked. Many displays had been pulled out of the wall and had not been replaced so it's unfortunate since I would have liked to see some of the non-lit lights in the displays on the walls. A plus for this location is that there is what appears to be complete price transparency. I appreciate that they have price tags on all the items here so you don't have to ask. read more

I'm an interior designer and I have been working with Coast lighting for a while now. Their showroom is one of the best in the Bay Area. They have an amazing number of lights on display and they are great to work with. I recommend making an appointment as, despite the number of salespeople on the floor, they are always pretty busy and you will have to wait a bit to get help. But once you work with them, you get their full attention. Great customer service as well for deliveries and if there is a problem. read more

I order a light fixture in the store. I've asked sales person to ship it at my address, they told me they can't do that because often things break in shipping. When I picked up the fixture in the sore (3 weeks after I've ordered it ), I received unopened package - they didn't bother to check . The fixture was plastic, not glass as I was told (I paid $250 for it). They refused to refund the money. They gave me store credit. I will never buy anything at that store again. read more
