Ace is loves to put out coupons that expire really quickly. These coupons motivate me to go to this store over others for my projects. I get upset when I pull it out and they say its no longer good. They claimed the item was "sold out," but when I went outside to make a phone call, I watched multiple people walk out of the store with the exact product I had just been denied. I was on a mission to buy a replacement light bulb for my vanity. I walked in looking a little lost, but was really looking for the aisle with the lightbulbs. I was staring at the wall of lightbulbs and an associate came up to me and asked if I needed help and immediately pointed me in the right direction. I also needed an extension cord and/or plug adapter for a wall outlet (from a 2 prong to a 3 prong). He quickly explained the difference, made his recommendation and I got what I need. You can call them to inquire or go on their website. My handyman Albert Lamp "Al" called me the day before to confirm my appointment. Day of, Al was on time and professional. SUPERB customer service!! Ugh I broke the key off in the front foor lock. Devastating!! I took the twisted pieces to Ace in Belmont, my first time in that store. I walked in and was kindly greeted I mentioned "key" (I was quite distraught ) and was immediately directed to the rear where a young man kindly guided me down the aisle & listened to my semi-breakdown. His name was Andrew! Elliott then went to work. They also recently expanded into a side annex so there's a little more space. I LOVE YOU ACE HARDWARE. This store reminds me of what those friendly neighborhood hardware stores were like "back in the day." Upon entering, I'm not struggling to look for someone to help me... In fact, every time I come in a staff member comes up to ME! Just so friendly and willing to help and KNOWLEDGEABLE. I bought some home gardening supplies here last week, and during the peak of the pandemic, I was able to get alcohol/sanitizing wipes here no problem. Everything I've needed they've had, and I don't have to struggle going into Target or Home Depot with all of the crowds for it. Oh yeah, my husband found a bolt and nut here too that Home Depot didn't even have (he wanted me to shout out that their hardware section is legit lmao). I've been making it an effort to come here for those little household items instead of ordering it from Amazon. Gotta support your local ACE Hardware store man... The staff members are friendly and knowledgeable with great problem solving skills, especially Loren!! I was looking for a replacement for one worn screw. A young staff first helped to identify the thread and size of the old screw, but was not able to find the exact matching screw in the store. He wrote down the information for me and suggested I try search online. On my way out, Loren saw me and asked me if I got help that I needed. After I told him that it appeared the store didn't carry the exact type of screw that I was looking for, he offered to take another look. He patiently asked me what and where the old screw was used, listened to me explaining. He then identified a screw that may work, although not identical to the old one. He told me that if it doesn't work, I can go to another store that may carry more national brand screws, and if I still could not find the matching one, I then could back to ACE and he could make a customized cut screw. I bought the one (only cost $0.49!) suggested by Loren that may work, and I went home and it worked and solved the problem! read more

Rude. I try to make a point to shop at smaller stores and come here often. However, don't think I will come back. The cashier was so rude and she was condescending to me. Terrible experience. First, she couldn't be bothered to greet me as she was busy texting. Then I wanted to return items and she was short and curt with me about it. Not really a fan of the staff or store but 1 guy went above and beyond last Monday afternoon. - We decides to do a little house maintenance & the useless big box store with even more useless staff didn't have the filters we needed. Shocker! - We decided to try this location & they had 1 & actually cut the other to fit the 1 they didn't have. - I'm generally not a fan of the teenage boys who work here. Why the attitude? I don't get it? Despite that, this will be my first stop whenever I need something. - Ace WAS the only store who had masks during the camp fire. - I got a great deal on Holiday lights as well. But it's the 30th anniversary of Ghostbusters so I kinda had to throw that in there for my boy, Rick Moranis. Seriously though, I AM Candice G and I was hoping to be the keymaster of my own apartment so I came to Carlmont Ace Hardware to get a zillion copies of the apartment keys that I know I'm probably going lose a billion times over. Preparedness. Take that, Zuul. So I came to this Ace Hardware and it looks and smells about the same as any Ace Hardware anywhere. The smell of tools, gardening supplies, and mechanic knick knacks reminded me of home for some reason and I really liked that. The woman at the counter was kind enough to point me in the direction of the kind-of-unofficial key area (I was expecting a designated counter) where I was met by a nice, Jon Voight-like older gentleman who was able to examine my keys and make a slightly less exaggerated number of keys than the 'zillion' I'd mentioned above. I got 6 total keys in about 10 minutes and I think my total was something around $6, which is a significantly lower dollar figure than what it would cost for a locksmith if and when I lock myself out. read more

Carlmont Ace Hardware opened in 1977 and has stayed in the same family the entire time. I love the customer service in this neighborhood store. I often go here for keys and other random things. The employees give good advice, and I can't say the same for Home Depot. The store has a surprising amount of items for a neighborhood hardware store. Very convenient. I spaced when I made my keys and asked for them to make duplicates of the wrong keys. They were really nice and didn't charge me for the keys, even though the mistake was mine. For cheap a while back, I bought some real spare keys and a key chain as a toy for my son here. Now he has his own real key chain too, so I don't have to share mine. read more

Nice little hardware store in Carlmont Village that has a little bit of everything. The selection, depending on what you're looking for, is less than Home Fepot or Lowe's. However, who has time to go there with the way traffic is in town? They also have a large assortment of Big green Egg products and Weber products, which are the main things that I shop for here. The prices are pretty close to Amazon, so why not support your local businesses? I'll continue to come back and support. The only star off is for the space and when the staff have to restock the shelves. There is virtually no space to pass so I often have to walk to the end of an aisle and come back to get to where I need to go. Then I have to walk back the other way. Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks, so I often leave spending less than expected. "What's the difference between this gizmo and that gadget?" "$4 and the cheaper one will last longer." That's helpful! I often start off here to get the simplest possible solution when the spouse helpfully reminds me again about the broken thingamabob, worn out widget or other pain in the neck. And they usually come through with the most practical option. Of course, the big chains are bigger, and I go there when the project is bigger.
