Living in Rock Island, I've driven past this location for two decades without ever stopping in. First, it was a Godfather's Pizza. Then it became Goombah's and I don't have any idea of what they offered. Next it was a buffet style cafeteria -- meh -- and I can't even remember the name of it. Not too long ago, it became Bayside Bistro, and I continued to ignore it. Yesterday was the twenty-second anniversary of our marriage and, both of us having forgotten (!) our twenty-first, we decided to go out for dinner. I suggested that we try this place as I'd heard some complimentary remarks about it. Boy howdy, was I glad I made that choice. Ms. Tish does a little bit of magic in the kitchen. I had the Meaty Beach as a bowl on top of cilatro lime rice, and it was one of the tastiest meals I've ever had in a restaurant: so many flavors and they weren't fighting each other. I think my wife got tired of hearing me say how delicious my dinner was. She enjoyed her meal, too, but isn't the type to wax poetic over food. The young gentleman who served us was pleasant, accommodating, and eager to serve. My wife asked if she could have her crabcake wrap served as a bowl, also. No problem, he said. We're visiting family in Moline and came to Bayside Bistro for dinner. What an excellent meal! It can be difficult for our family ( 2 GF and a vegetarian) to find somewhere we can all eat, but Bayside Bistro had so many fantastic options for us all! We started with fried okra and cheese curds and they were crunchy and not greasy. The rolls and salads were fantastic and everyone loved their entrees. The banana foster for desert was delicious! We first ate at Bayside Bistro's old East Davenport location a few years ago and found the small restaurant to be very charming and unique. The new Rock Island location is still as pleasant, charming, and well-maintained as the old restaurant but now can comfortably accommodate many more guests. The food choices are quite varied ranging from Caribbean/Creole-inspired sandwiches, wraps, and bowls to vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free configurations and assorted seafood dishes! The quality of the food is, as always, exceptionally fresh, appropriately seasoned, and made to order! Excellent family-owned restaurant with great food all made from scratch. We enjoyed a Sunday brunch of biscuits and gravy, eggs, crispy potatoes and a side of bacon. Everything was delicious. The homemade biscuits had a touch of sweetness that complimented the sausage gravy perfectly. Bacon was crispy and flavorful. The owner and server were very friendly and attentive. The music was a light jazz instrumental that made for a restful atmosphere and encouraged conversation and just taking your time to enjoy friends and family and a great meal. I enjoyed eating at Bayside Bistro a few weeks ago with friends. The Chef/owner informed us that they were out of an item and then said she would wrap up a batch in the kitchen! WOW-that is home cooking at its best!!! The thing she made for several of us was the best we have ever had!!! We enjoyed a lovely visit and meal. They get 2 stars for effort, other than that, it would be none. So sad that we met friends there, and what a disappointment. To begin with, the ambiance, well, there isn't any. From the bright lights to old eqipment sitting around, the paper tablecloths, plastic salt&Pepper, and silverware simply brought to our table in a pile - this is not the place for a nice dinner (as their menu prices suggest - $$$$) The one person working (Friday night) was the host, server and kitchen person rolled into one. The menu had several items missing, both food and drinks. Our salads were literally about 5 bites of bag lettuce with a couple of browning cucumbers. They had 1 dressing that arrived in a little plastic cup (think fast food). Within a few minutes, our food arrived, and it was a hot mess. 2 dishes were literally browning (they has been sitting for quite some time) and the other 2 were ok. None were hot. Pot Pie was what you would call "de-constructed) He said it was the last serving! When the check came and we saw how pricy a beer and seltzer were ($18) Well, we should have been in New York or Cali! I see now why they has 2 tables filled in the entire 2 1/2 hours were were there. We stopped for our 52nd anniversary simple date out this afternoon. What a delight. We were there at 3:30 and as we expected that it wouldn't be busy. We try at our age to avoid crowded spaced to stay healthy. The restaurant is so comfortable and inviting. It spacious and bright. They had jazz music playing and it was relaxing and joyful in the same breath. We were seated and greeted by Daryl one of the owners who was warm and inviting. We told him it was our first time there and that we are transplants from New York. He told us about himself and we shared a few stories. We felt like old friends in his own home. We ordered the Baja Chicken sandwich, it was absolutely delicious, the portion was very generous and perfectly seasoned. Our other order was an Oyster Po Boy, it couldn't have been better. The oysters were dredged in corn meal that added a subtle sweetness and (as I was told later) rice flour that added to the crispy goodness and made them gluten free if requested. The breads were just the right texture for each sandwich and the house made sauces , chipotle for the chicken and remoulade for the oysters were perfectly balanced for each. When Darryl asked if we enjoyed our meal I told him that it exceeded our expectations and that we would definitely be back. He asked if he could bring out his wife Tish who does the cooking so that we could tell her ourselves. We were happy to. What a radiant and genuinely warm woman. We talked about food quality and preparation and that food is meant to nourish the body and the soul and it was easy to tell that she put a bit of her heart on every plate.
