I would highly recommend Bayside Builders Group for any remodel. We were remodeling our kitchen, master bath, and family room prior to relocating back to our house. Update 2/12/24 Adding a half star which rounding up is 4-stars due to their desire to make things whole. Despite the terrible beginning of a 3 week project that ended up being a ~5 month project, once the back office got involved were able to get the deck up and cleared final inspections the first time around. Though the experience and the amount of time it took was not great, there isn't a way to undo that and ultimately the deck appears to be built well. I started a siding repair project on 5/22 with Bayside Builders Group and later decided to move forward with painting the entire exterior of my house as well. I'm very pleased that, despite a few minor hiccups, this large project was completed as promised. Both project managers, Nick and Dan, are younger than I expected, but they maintained clear and consistent communication with me from start to finish--even during off-hours, which I really appreciated. One of the best parts of this experience was the incredible team they assigned to my project. Roberto, in particular, stood out. He's a highly experienced and dedicated worker. He and his team often worked late into the evening to stay on schedule. We had a representative from Bayside Builders Group come to our house to give us an estimate on a partial remodel. He was there two hours and only spent about 15 minutes dealing with our remodeling needs. The other hour and forty-five minutes was spent giving us endless details on how great his company was, how much money we'd save by going with him, and badmouthing other contractors. He left and never sent a written estimate. Instead, he called and wanted to have another long meeting to review an estimate, get our sign off, and a check. We were very put off by his hard-sell, constant hyping of his company, and the lack of a written estimate that we could carefully review prior to another meeting with him. We were looking to do some renovations to our home in Marin County. Met with a few contractors, including Bayside Builders. The person we met with made a good sales pitch, and their initial price estimate was attractive. So we decided to hire them. The work started out good, but went downhill from there. Deadlines were not met, appointments were missed, city inspections failed, costs increased significantly, etc. But we stuck it out. Had to communicate to Bayside about their shortcomings to get what we wanted/needed. In the end, we are "okay" with the job, but would definitely not use them again or recommend them. read more

Too many cooks spoiled the broth I had a similar experience to Welhan (a year ago). Very poorly managed with wasted telephone calls, texts and emails only to get a call from them the night before the 10 am appointment the next day to say they could not meet my brother at the job- some very lame unprofessional excuse. Unacceptable. To clarify - my brother was scheduled to be there. Your company and Joshua acknowledged that would be ok as I live in Central Valley after many discussions. Suddenly the night before I got a phone call confirming- and 2 hrs later a bizarre second phone call saying they would match my first bid (as I sent them that info) but did not want to show up for the appointment. But I have to say -- the same person who made that strong pitch ended up being one of the most helpful and generous parts of the experience. Honestly a poorly run operation. After the positive reviews on Yelp, I reached out to them through the website and was put in contact with Dispatch 3 group. We exchanged phone calls and emails and scheduled a date to have onsite visit and a quote. I took a day off of work so I can be at home when they come by. The morning of the visit, they call me immediately before the appointment to cancel. There goes my day off, wasted. They offered me another appointment on a Sunday, I agree, cancel my plans for the weekend, and planned to meet them at my residence. Again, 2 days before the appointment, they call me to cancel because it was a Jewish holiday. Now I fully understand and appreciate holidays of all cultures. But why would they schedule an appointment on a date they cannot honor? Overall terrible experience and I walked away understanding that if a company cannot appropriately show up for appointments set, they cannot be trusted to complete projects on time and on budget. 1 star. read more

We hired Bayside builders to do our 2nd story deck and 1st story deck that connects to the back out our house. This was an expensive house repair that was much needed. So before going with Bayside I had about 6 contractors come out to give me bids. Bayside's bid was not the lowest and by far not the highest. I started to do some research on bayside builders before making a decision. I found they had some active projects in town and it happen to be next door to a family friends house. I visited his neighbors who were getting a roof put on their house. They had nothing but great things to say about Tony and the Bayside team. Demolition and construction started soon after that. Gio was the foreman for the job and I couldn't have asked for a better one. He was very thorough in what I was looking for. I was impressed with his knowledge and with him his crew, especially Carlos. If I was starting a business I'd want to start my company with a guy like Carlos on the ground floor. Hard working, young and a sponge for knowledge. Tony checked in often as the construction was going on, the thing that impressed me most was late on a Friday night I pocket dialed Tony. I hung up as soon as I noticed I was doing this, within 30 seconds he was calling me back to make sure there was no kind of emergency. This sold me on him. If you are on the fence about Tony and Bayside builders get off of it and get the work done, you won't regret it! I would not work with this company again. We decided to work with Bayside Builders on our backyard renovation because they presented themselves as a large company that does big projects, handles most things in-house, and at the outset they made it seem that it would be a smooth process working with them. Our experience was the opposite. Our project coordinator was unprofessional, frequently failed to follow up, never provided us with a detailed cost breakdown, and missed major details in working on our project. We were glad to walk away once our 3D design was finally complete, and we are relieved that we did not contract with this company for the full project. Skipping over the multitude of minor issues along the way, the most disconcerting thing about working with Bayside Builders was the series of pricing discussions that followed after our design was refined. As a large, professional company, we expected to be presented with a breakdown of material and labor costs along with a total price. We also expected to have conversations throughout the design process about our budget and about decisions between materials and design features and how the pricing would vary as a result. Instead, we were never once asked about our budget or given any information about pricing options during the design process, and then once the design was refined we were just given a total price for the project with no information explaining how this number was arrived at. One day later we received a text from the project coordinator that claimed, "we've found out we're starting another project very close to your location shortly" and, "we secured approval from the owner to consolidate orders and utilize surplus materials," and they dropped the initial price by $10K. This felt unprofessional and disingenuous, and we were left with the feeling that the quoted price was not based on anything in particular, and this made us uncomfortable signing a larger contract with them. We continued in the weeks that followed to push for a cost breakdown, and we were eventually given an incomplete list that was scarce on details. One of the central features of the design was installation of a 240V hot tub, and there is not a 240V outlet in that part of the property. At no point did an electrician or the project foreman inspect or evaluate our electrical system, and then there was no mention of any of the needed electrical work on the cost breakdown they eventually provided. When we pointed this out, we were told that the price "includes all electrical work." However, not having looked at the existing electrical system, not having this "included" electrical work mentioned on the cost breakdown, and already being given a final price left us again feeling like the project cost we were given was arrived at arbitrarily. Leaving off this significant part of the project in the cost breakdown seemed not just an oversight, but a major red flag that was indicative of the lack of attention to the actual details of the project. I can only imagine what would have happened if we had first signed a contract for the full project and only later realized that electrical work wasn't listed out, and this glaring omission was the last straw for us. read more

I do not recommend Bayside Builders Group of Alameda, CA (heretofore known as "the company") for your construction needs.  Before discussing the problems that I had you should know that they offer discounts if you don't write a review.  That alone should tell you something about the integrity of the company. The company may seem very professional in initial discussions but they are not.  Everything that they promised to include verbally, they did not include unless it iwas specifically stated in the contract.  I tried over and over to have them put details into the contract.  It was a simple cut and paste from what I sent them but they would simply say "Don't worry about it.  We will do it for you" or "You have to understand we are construction workers, we don't know how to cut and paste".  So if it's not in the contract the company will demand a change order and more money.  They even demanded more money to put in extra 2x4 studs to support the siding something that the subcontractor actually paid for and was willing to do as part of the job. Prior to contract signing the company's job managers talked about setting up a WhatsApp chat group which would include the company's two job managers, managers from the company's office as well as the job foreman.   The problem with the chat group is that the company's job managers rarely responded to any of my texts and they were only on site for 10 minutes every week or two.  Communication with them was sparse until they wanted to discuss change orders or collect a payment. In early discussions they claimed that they had 60+ employees working out of their Alameda office.  That was a major reason we went with this company and believed that they could at least replace our siding in 2-3 weeks as they had indicated.  Well they don't have 60+ employees.  This company is a general contractor with very few employees who hires subcontractors for what appears to be all of their construction work.  What's worse is that they don't seem to know a lot about building construction.  One of our job managers had absolutely no construction knowledge.  When I wanted to change the size of a rough opening on a gable of our house their "experienced" job manager said that he could not do it because it was structural.  It wasn't.  He thinks that putting fiber cement siding underground is OK to do even though the manufacturer says that it is not rated for below grade, voids the warranty, and that fiber cement siding can absorb moisture and turn to mush.   The same job manager made ridiculous drainage suggestions that luckily the sub contractor laughed off and ignored. So our 2-3 week project turned into a 10 week project.  A major part of the delay was the company's delay in ordering materials which included doors and a small window.  I repeatedly reminded various people in the company about ordering the doors and window since one of the units was a French door with side windows.  This is almost always a special order taking a month or much longer to obtain.  Then the company claimed that the rear door was not included in the contract even though the contract stated that all material was included.  I had also texted several times about their buying of the door in the Whatsapp chat and they never tried to correct me, rather they just ignored me. They also claimed that the rebuild of a rear staircase was not included in the contract even though the contract stated that the rear staircase would be repaired and replaced.  There was not much that could be repaired as the rear staircase was literally falling apart during it's use by the subcontracted workers during the project.  At this point I was so frustrated with dealing with the company that, just wanting them out of my life,  I agreed to pay for the rear door, and that they just needed to provide material for the staircase.  I believe that I could have fought these items but the job managers infuriated me so much, that I just wanted the company's involvement in the project to end as soon as possible so that I would never have to see or talk to these people ever again. Drove 30 minutes roundtrip to sit for an hour during my appointment slot to be no-showed during my busy workday, even though they followed up to confirm our appointment for an estimate in the morning. Nobody picked up the phone and the number they'd called me from that morning went straight to hold and then hung up when the phone rang (many times). Nobody answered their main number. Nobody called me to let me know they weren't able to make it. Nobody ever called me after that (this is 3 weeks later) to apologize, explain what happened or to follow up. They don't stand behind their project, they send you a project manager and he brings his team of unprofessional unlicensed workers and charge you the highest price on the market. I had a leak in my ceiling because of the balcony on top of my living room. I hired Bayside Builder's group to fix it and we signed a $16000 contract to fix my balcony to prevent the leaking before the winter came last August. I had lots of stress from them, they hired one employee to break the old concrete from the balcony floor and remove it, it took him a long time, when they wanted to do the new concrete the guy was mixing the concrete in a small bucket little by little and he pour it and not water it, the second day I saw cracks on the concrete. I called the office and they said don't worry you will be happy at the end. It took him about 3 days to finish the concrete which started to crack from day one and they didn't water it from day one. I called the office to complain and ask another manager to come and check on the work and they keep telling me don't worry this not our first project and we know what we are doing. I asked for the manager and explained about my frustration and he promised he will stop by but he never did . Instead they send a young girl to take pictures and ask for more money. He added another concrete layer on the top saying this will seal the concrete and the epoxy layer on the top will do extra sealant and there will be no more cracks. I believed them! When we reached the rails I terminated the contract because I couldn't handle their dishonesty and poor work. They didn't do what we agreed on the rails. the rails looked ugly like a barn rails. I terminated the contract and hired a professional carpenter who finish the rails in one day and tern out to be perfectly beautiful exactly the way I wanted for $3000 less money from the BaySide. Last week we had rain, I am sitting on the couch watching TV in my livingroom and water dropped over me I stepped into my second floor balcony to see huge cracks on the concrete.... I called them and of course they will say: "oh! you terminated the contract and we are not responsible for what happened". I am surprise how they run business and how they get the 4+ stars. I had lots of stress from this company. I never had such a bad experience as America business stand behind their business and care about their customers but this company they don't. I brought my contractor to check on a balcony and he was warning me about their unprofessional work while he was doing me exterior paint and some other work around the house. I told the manager Tony about the contractor complain and he said don't talk to him he is jealous and want to take the project from us. it turned out that he was correct. Now my contractor gave me an estimate of $6500 to fix the balcony floor by adding layer of sheets ........ Big scam don't work with this company I wish I read the review before I worked with them. Bayside Builders did a complete exterior restore and re-paint on our house and detached garage, and the results look great. The previous owners cut corners, and sprayed stucco onto wood, which didn't look right at all. The color was faded and there were cracks in lots of places that needed to be repaired. Bayside Builders helped completely transform the look of the house and fix a list of nagging issues, including stripping stucco from the wood siding, replacing deteriorating trim, adding gutters to the garage, and installing leaf guards everywhere. The only part of the job that didn't turn out well was the paint on the concrete front steps, and the time of year. Given the rain, in Nov-Jan, the job was extended while dodging raindrops, and the paint did not hold up on the steps. read more

Our patio door was leaking whenever it rained. The previous owner of my house did a horrible job in installing the current patio door that was in our house. The frame needed to be redone and the patio door needed to be replaced. The initial consultation was good, but they said they had a $5,000 minimum and they do not take any sort of credit. It has to be all from the checking account. They quoted me $5,200 to do the job and to fix the leak. I figured that was a bit high, but they claim to be the best in the business. So I scrounged up some money and I paid them. Before they start working, the person gave me a call and told me that it was actually going to be $10,000 because stucco was not included in the price of replacing the patio door. This was either very poorly communicated or not communicated at all because that as a shock to me. And that was also going to be another $5,200. So I ended up getting a loan and paid them in cash for it. While they were working on the patio door, one of the head guys came over and really pressured the hell out of me to get more work done on the house. He wanted to seal up my house for $14,000. I'm not made of money, but he wouldn't take that as an answer. He continued to pressure me and tried to upsell me. I eventually had to just shut him down and tell him to stop talking about it. They did a pretty job installing the patio door and redoing the stucco and making it look nice. But whenever it started raining again, the inside of the patio door was leaking just like it was before. I called him out because they have a one year warranty for labor. The first time they just added more caulk to the outside trim. It didn't exactly surprise me, but the door still leaked afterwards. So I called them out a second time... This is whenever it gets really shady: they remove some drywall on the inside of my house to see where the leaking was coming from. They spray the patio door, and it doesn't leak. The guy then sprays the window above the patio door, and it starts leaking. Turns out my window is the cause of the leak, not the actual patio door itself. The guy packs up all of his stuff, throws out all the drywall that he took out from my wall, and tells me that's it. I asked him if he was just going to leave my wall with a big hole in it. He said they would replace the drywall whenever I call them over to seal the window and do the work. At this point, I feel like I'm getting massively ripped off. There's no way in hell that sealing a window would cost me another $5,000. So I call my handyman and he is going to seal the window and also replace the inside drywall that these guys left behind for $480. These guys may do good work, but I cannot trust or recommend them simply because of the fact that they have a so-called $5,000 minimum and they do not take any forms of credit. And they also did a piss poor job of identifying the cause of the leak before beginning work. I would have given them one star, but they actually did a good job installing the patio door. But since this was not the actual core of the problem, and they left me with a hole in my drywall, giving them two stars. read more

We needed our 25-year-old roof replaced. I got in touch with Bayside Builders Group through calling their sister company Norman G. Phillips Roofing. When I called Phillips, I was responded to by Nick from Bayside. This review is of Nick and the work his Bayside Builders crew did. We started with three estimates from three different companies. Nick's quote was the second most expensive but I felt like he really knew what he was talking about and would get the job done well and quickly. I talked to two of his references and they both sang his praises. Here are some great things about Nick: First, when he made a mistake and underestimated the square footage of our roof, he honored his original quoted price even though the job was much bigger than originally estimated. Secondly, his references told me that they had received $1000 off the cost of the job when certain materials were not needed. The same was true for us. Nick took $1000 off the cost of the job when it turns out the crew needed less of a particular material. Three, the day we signed with Nick, at my special request, Nick signed a contract change order to "install new chimney cup" for zero dollars; he included it with the job for free. During the job, we agreed instead to just reattach the old chimney cup, rather than install a new one. However, a month after the job was done, that old chimney cap blew right off. Nick honored his original agreement and sent someone right away to install the free new chimney cup as promised in the original change order agreement. Overall, the job was done very quickly, on time, with two crews working at the same time, and the cleanup after was excellent; I've only found a couple nails left over from the job. In short, Bayside may be one of the more expensive roofers out there but the work was fast, seemingly high quality, clean, and the communication with Nick was good throughout and filled with integrity. He will not sign off on the job until you say you are 100% satisfied. read more
