This place is a disaster! Believe the reviews, scammers. They give a discount if you right a good review. Trust me, I did it once before. I had such a bad experience here for my recent eye exam. Not sure if it was the car salesman at the front, or the Eye doctor's fault. I basically needed cvs readers, but I wanted progressive lenses. I have insurance with full coverage. I was charged almost $700. I knew something was wrong. I checked my insurance when I got home and all of it was wrong. I had to bring in proof for the salesman to come correct. The guy said my bad, and refunded me $300. He knew just what he was doing, I gave him my insurance card. When the glasses came in, it was the wrong prescription. Couldn't see at all. So I then had to come in for another exam to correct the mistake. With a different eye doctor. I was crystal clear with both eye doctors. They are readers over my contacts. Over a month later, glasses came back with a line on them, not progressives. So they were sent back again. When they finally came in, 3 months after original appt, the prescription was off. I couldn't see up close, I had to pull back to see. Which is the reason I came in to start with. I left with the glasses, bc who can deal with this incompetency for a 4th time. Here I paid $400 out of pocket for glasses I can't use. He never adjusted the price for the wrong prescription lenses he sold me from the start. Meanwhile I shouldn't have paid more then my copay for this whole ordeal. Yet they try and make you feel like they are giving you a deal with their SPIEL! Super shady place. I would not trust them or ever come back here. I was charged $45 for a 10 second exam looking at a Snellen chart for New York driver license renewal. My insurance covers basic eye exam per year and I never needed to pay out of pocket for a simple exam anywhere else. I only came here because I live close by and wanted to give them another chance (had an unpleasant experience with them the first time back in 2021). The guy working there said insurance does not cover this service and proceeds to ask for money after the test was completed. Had I known this was not covered by insurance, I would not have came here for the test. read more

Shady with a capital S. Reciently purchased glasses there using my union benifit. I wanted transitions lenses, and after a lot of negotiation, we agreeded on a price. I picked up my glasses on a rainey day, so I did not notice that they were not transition lenses. I called and they told me to bring them back. The only problem was there were no one in the office during the day in the middle of the week. I was then told that I could bring them to their Greatneck office. I brought my reciept along with the glasses to the Greatneck office. The owner/partner looked at my reciept and said I did not pay for transitions. I had to remind him that the single pescription no name glasses would not have been 550 dollars, Total ripoff by the way. He didn't seem to believe me and said he would look into it and call me back. He never called. I called back a few days later to find out that my classes were sent to the Bayside office. I am a teacher and could not pick them after 3 pm. Don't know any office that takes UFT insurance that does't stay open after 3pm on any day. I then asked if they could be sent back to the Greatneck office so that I could pick them up after work. They said fine, and that they would call me back when they were delivered to the Greatneck office. NO ONE CALLED ME. I finially was able to pick them up only to find out that the frame is crooked. After all this run around, I decided to take my crooked glasses to Costco and let them adjust them. Just wondering if this establishment is a eyecare office, or just a front for whatever. I bought a pair of glass and the arms of the glasses seem to be to tight at the temple causing me to have headaches., I've been back to the store three times for an adjustment which dosn'e seem to work. and the glasses for some reason lose the adjustment. NOW FOR ANOTHER ISSUE-- I called the store and asked if they could send me a copy of my eye exam that I paid for and was tolld to send an email. It's been over two weeks an nothing even with me sending them three emails. Just need a copy incase something happens to the glasses when away. read more

I'm so happy I found Bayside Family Eyecare. Everyone is so friendly and professional. From my first phone call, all of my questions were answered accurately, and I was given an appointment for that weekend. (They're open on Sudays!) When I arrived, again, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Dr. Guru did my exam and explained everything to me, slowly, I never felt rushed. Let me tell you, the customer service here is superb. Christmas Eve in the morning I got something in my eye. I didn't think much of it but it wouldn't go away it was very painful and irritated and I was worried. I called a few eye doctors but being Christmas Eve everything was closed. I happened to call Bayside Family Eyecare. No one picked up when I called and I didn't leave a message. About 10 minutes later I get a call back on my cell, I almost didn't pick up because I didn't recognize the number. It was Bayside Family Eyecare asking what the issue was. I explained my situation and they recommended me to SightMD or Urgent care. When I hung up I even received a text message with the info and a few other tips about going to urgent care. While I was in urgent care I was texting with them and they were responding ON CHRISTMAS EVE to a patient they have never seen! I am beyond grateful for their concern and follow up. I had an eye exam & purchased glasses here late last year. Thorough, professional exam. I purchased a pair of glasses, red, of course. In about a month's time, the frame cracked. I went back & was told that they would replace the frame, no problem. However the frames were not easily found. I insisted on the red frames. Steve went beyond the call of duty, searched high & low, checked stock rooms etc. Finally, after 2 months he was able to get the new frames. With no charge to me, I left with my new red glasses today. Thank you, Steve. You were kind enough to honor my wishes. I will return here for my next pair of glasses. This place is a SCAM and the new owner is VERY SHADY. Besides Dr. Chen being very informative and nice, everything in that place is very Shady. First my son got a pair of glasses which the "lady optician recommended" it to us. Picked it up on January 21, 2024, my 9 years old son wore it to school the next day and come home complaining the glasses is irritating him on the back and giving him a headache because the arms was too long. Did some research online and found out the optician gave us an "adult frame" without telling us and charged us almost $800 whereas online is under $100. Called back and spoke to the owner Steve, he "seems" genuinely nice so instead of requesting a refund, we went back on January 23, 2024 got a replacement pair. And the agreement with Steve was that I will bring another frame in for the transition lens without additional charges because I make it very clear to Steve that it's really ridiculous for his employee to charge me almost $800 on a "adult frame" that cost under $100 online for a 9 years old. And this time for the replacement pair I'm not going to pay that much. So everything was great because he agreed to this agreement. And I asked him to write it on the receipt because I don't want to come in and have to explain it to his employees. He wrote "will also bring new frames for lenses okay by Steve". He didn't write down transition, I didn't think anything of it because I think I can take his words for it. Maybe two weeks later I went to picked up my prescriptions glasses with my own frame. When I got home to wear my glasses, I realized the lens are not popped in correctly and they made a huge gap under the glasses frame. Went back again and Steve accused that my frame is not authentic when it's clearly their fault. I assured him that I just brought it from Ray-Ban original website. He popped the lens back but the gap is still there, but I let it go because it's underneath and I'm thinking no one will see it. When I mentioned about my son's transition lens, he said oh really " I don't remember" I showed him the receipt and he said " I don't remember I agree on the transition, did I say that" so I patiently reminded him and also reminded him he even asked both me and my son if we want to put the transition on that replacement pair or the frame we will bring in. After that he asked me to bring my son's frame in for the transition lenses. Then when it's time for my husband to go picked up his prescription glasses, at the time when he picked the frame the same optician that recommended my 9 year old son the adult frame, "tripled assured" my husband that the frame's arm he got can be bend to shape his head because my husband needed a wide frame. To our surprised, the different optician there said that this can only bend to an extend because this is not curve like the sports glasses. My husband didn't complain about it and deal with it. This time I asked Steve that instead of bringing the new frame for the transition lenses can I used the credit for my year supply of contacts because I found out that the lenses he gave my son is low quality, not even smudge proof. At first he kinda hesitated then he said let's order the Contacts because he have another customer. Three weeks later when it's time to picked up my contacts lenses, He gave me a month and half of trail contacts instead. What a joke. On the spot I asked Steve to order a year of contact because I'm almost out of it. He agreed and his guy employee assured me that he will ordered it. A month pass I called the place, they didn't order anything. I texted Steve and he's playing the "I don't remember game again". He said he will honored what he wrote on the receipt. Have I not made him wrote that I'm sured he will use the "I don't remember" line. Wasted my time and money on this clown. On top of that he's claiming he's doing me multiple favors to fixed my problems when he's wiping his own ass that him and his office cause. In the end I'm like forget it, he can keep that money. I have coming here for a few years now, they are currently under a new ownership. I bought a pair of glasses last December, which did not fit, the eye doctor at the time stated that they would adjust them to fit. Btw, that is so untrue! I need a small size in eyewear. Long story short I went back last Sunday to try again to get an adjustment. The new owners were there, immediately one of them stated that these frames are too large, and I realized they were never going to adjust properly. I asked to be shown other frames that might fit me, and that could accommodate my lenses which were good. I was in luck I found a frame that fit my face, and accommodated my lenses, was given a great price all in about 30 minutes. The new owners are great, friendly, and not at all trying to push anything on me. Actually I was the one suggesting trying another frame as they were really not trying to sell me anything. After being there for quite some time Amanda and her coworker and the Doctor we're just amazing. Very helpful and very assuring that they would fix the problem. My mom lost her glasses and the readers she was using had broken. Amanda's coworker, assured us that the glasses would be here within the week. Indeed they were !!! I used to take my son to Bayside Family Eye care when Arthur Chen was the doctor. David Wasserlauf has now taken over Arthur Chen's practice. First, let me tell you what's different. If you're used to Arthur Chen and his staff, especially Steven, you'll find that the vibe is a bit different with the new doctor and his staff. The office is a bit serious now. Everyone is still polite, so it's fine, but it's not the light and extra-friendly atmosphere that I was expecting. I have no idea what the doctor is like because I did not get an exam. I had gone for an exam thinking it would be Dr. Chen, but then it was Dr. Wasserlauf, and I was not prepared. I like to do a little bit of research on a doctor before I get an exam. My insurance pays for just one annual eye exam, so I did not want to blow my one free visit. I told the doctor that I was not prepared for the visit, and he was quite understanding. I was not charged for anything, so I appreciate that. Today, I took my son to get his eye glasses adjusted, and we were treated professionally and kindly. The person working there helped fix my son's eye glasses and he even made sure that the lenses were centered correctly. The only reason I gave the place 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish I had been informed that there is a new doctor and staff. That's all. read more

My 2.5 yo son had an eyelid infection. His pediatrician told me go to the ER and based on reviews I texted this place and they replied you cab come in. The doctor diagnosed him wring( I had to go to another doctor cause he told me I'm not familiar with pediatric patients) and they charged me as if I went to the ER( I have insurance and it clearly says in the card office visits 40$) . I appreciated the fact they accommodated me without appointment, but DON'T do that if you don't have a doctor for pediatrician medical visits. so overall I wouldn't give them a star. read more

I called around 9:00am on. Saturday morning to ask if I could be seen that day due to some eye pain I had been experiencing. The gentleman who answered the phone was so pleasant and accommodating, he told me to come in at 12:00pm. Once I arrived with my 2 year old in tow, the staff was so helpful in providing toys and coloring books to keep her occupied while I filled out paperwork. Dr Arthur Chen was wonderful! I had come in with some pain in my right eye, and he did all the necessary tests to ensure nothing was wrong (and calm my nerves) - it ended up being dry eyes, so he sent me out with a script. OMG - this eyeglass store is THE worst on the planet! They really do try, BUT, they just can't get out of their own way! My wife and I ordered various frames and lenses from them, and the MAJORITY of those order(s) were went WRONG! Also - they lost a pair of my frames, and insisted that I had not left those frames at their shop. I really liked the choices that that this place has to offer. Even though I was fitted for contacts, I still like to have two additional pairs of eyeglasses available. I made an appointment for my mother, following the wonderful experience that I had. My eyes are extremely picky, and he made sure I tried on different contacts to find the best set for me. He also helped us pick out glasses that work for us, and we both are extremely happy with the glasses we got. Beyond frustrated. We bought our most recent glasses a year ago when under prior ownership, customer service was great, repairs were easy. Now my child broke the frame, went to the store, given scotch tape to fix the glasses and told I would receive a call with the cost for the needed part. The first two weeks after this, I did not receive a call and tried calling over 5 times with no one even picking up the phone. After two weeks, I finally received a call back from the store and am told they don't have my old records so I need to bring the glasses again to the store so that the right size can be ordered. This is a reasonable request but between work and school it has been hard to get back to the store during their open hours. What is the most frustrating however, is that after leaving work early for this, I bring the kids to the store just to find that it is closed for the holiday. I called both yesterday and today to check if the store would be open but the message is the same voice message that I have been now hearing for the last 3 weeks with no indication that there are holiday hours all week. I used to recommend this store to all my friends who needed glasses for their young kids as I love the Tomato glasses we have and Tatyana was the best at helping customers. Today, I had an appointment scheduled here for my two year old daughter to get her eyes examined. Upon searching for a reputable optician I believed I was lucky to have found this practice. With a name like bayside FAMILY eye care you would think they're experienced with children. After calling to confirm multiple times I was assured that the doctor was familiar with babies eyes and could do the exam on my daughter. The entire experience was a nightmare, not only did they not have any experience with babies but the doctor proceeded to put drops in my daughters eyes to dilate them to only send us away after to another practice. Stating he usually "works with ages 5 and up." If this was the case I should have been notified prior to the beginning of any type of exam. Saying my daughter did not corporate when she is just a baby was unprofessional and reflects on the poor nature of this practice. Parents should err on the side of caution when approaching this practice for any children's eye needs. read more
