I had a 1998 truck due for registration whose check engine light turned on a month or so prior to the deadline to get it smogged. I took it to a mechanic, who just said I had bad gas and that I needed to empty my tank, fill with better gas plus an injection cleaner, and drive a couple hundred miles more and that'd fix the problem. It didn't. I spent the better part of the next couple of weekends pulling apart of my exhaust system to try to fix the problem myself. Finally, after a little more driving, and a couple of days before my registration was due, my CEL went off, but my OBD reader was still showing the code in its history. I went to one smog place, and the guy turned me away saying based on the sound of the engine, it wouldn't pass. I went to another place, and the was told that I'd fail until I'd driven enough to get the stored code out of the history (even though the light was off). And then the third place I went just happened to have an issue with their equipment for servicing pre-1999 vehicles... Finally, I made it to Bayside Smog. I asked about my previous CEL situation and my current status, and was told that it wouldn't be a problem with smog. They were booked up for the next ~45 minutes, but they could fit me in at 12:30. I left, and then came back a little early, but the vehicle before me turned out to be a little more complicated than expected. At around 12:40, they wrapped up, and I was told that on account of the delay, they'd knock $10 off the cost of the smog (and even before the discount, they were already cheaper than any of the other three places I'd visited earlier that day). The test itself went very fast, and I passed no problem (and my emissions were all below the average reported! I guess all the work I'd done the previous weekends paid off). I was really happy with the whole experience here, and despite it not being the closest place to where I live, I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm due for a smog test. read more

Missak was the technician helped me today. I had a minor issue with my air filter box clamp and was able to come back after it was fixed to complete the smog check w/o incurring extra charge. SUMMARY Oh thank heavens Bayside Smog passed my old goat the first time! My 20 year old Toyota SUV lives on (at least for another 2 years)! YELP CHECK IN DISCOUNT Check in and you get some dollars off :) Prices are in line w/ other places in the area. BACKGROUND Well I got a love affair for my 20 year old Japanese made Toyota SUV. They just don't make them like they used to and most of all, they don't make them easy to work on anymore. Special tools, special diagnostic equipment, etc. Sure, I *could* buy a new car or truck, but there's nothing wrong with my baby :) However in the last 4 years and 2 tests, each time it didn't pass the first time but barely passed by a hair. The last time I had to change out my injectors and catalytic converted. Perhaps that helped, but needless to say I was still worried. THE EXPERIENCE I made a reservation at Bayside Smog based on the Yelp reviews and the proximity to our place and some errands I had to run afterwards. The owner was super cool and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone else. What I really appreciated about him is that two slimy dudes with no appointment tried to cut in front of me, but the owner shooed them away and honored my appointment first. I needed a DMV renewal smog inspection for my Mercedes Benz Sprinter 3500 diesel Class C RV. Submitted a quote request on Yelp and received five estimates ranging from $58.20 to $108.20. It seems that some shops think they can get away with exorbitant special prices for RV owners. Not at Bayside Smog! They were the $58.20 price and did a great job for me this afternoon. No extra charge for diesels or small RVs. Naqib is very friendly, speaks fluent English and was courteous and respectful. I can highly recommend this shop for any smog inspection.
