I had already put down $300,000 and owned another home that was fully paid off and worth about $550,000. Yet the broker told me I needed to put down $600,000 to buy a home priced at $850,000 . After that, I went to another broker and got pre-approved almost immediately. I qualified for the home without any problems. All I can say is that they were not very professional. In my opinion, Simon seemed focused only on money. I felt that he was trying to earn commissions from both sides. When I decided not to use his broker, my offer was not accepted, and I was told that another offer had been accepted instead. That was my experience, and it left me feeling that my interests were not the priority.

When we did have minor maintenance issues, they were very quick to respond. The maintenance guys were very sweet and respectful and always willing to go above and beyond and I really appreciate that. On the other hand- When my room flooded with over two inches of water on a holiday, I was unable to get a hold of maintenance in any way shape or form. If you are in an emergency maintenance situation that is not worthy of calling 911 on a holiday or weekend...good luck, because there is not emergency maintenance number and their automated Robot that the maintenance line sends you to, is terrible and never accurate. I will say, once we did get a hold of them, they were helpful. However it did not feel like enough compared to what we had gone through. In addition- with most of the roadblocks we did face during our lease, flooding included, they were quick to indemnify us and help and I appreciate that. It felt like they did what was in their power as landlords. This was just part of my experience, but I have had immensely worse and uncaring landlords living in the SDSU area compared to Mendes. Take that with what you will. In the end, they are good landlords, just with a few frustrations.
