This place has been open about 3-weeks. So we decided to have dinner on a Friday night. Why not we have had Korean Fried Chicken before and love it. So our adventure to bb.q was anticipated to be good. We arrived and were seated in the middle of the dining room. When we asked if we could sit at one of the side tables we were told those are for 3+ dinners. Also I have a cane and hip issue and it's difficult to sit where I can't sit and adjust my legs position. But we sat where we were told. Shortly after that others arrived (2 guest party only) and they were allowed to sit where we asked to sit without any issues. Not a fair treatment in my opinion. We were treated by a very helpful staff member who explained many of the items and helped us order. In fact she was awesome as she kept checking on us and was very attentive. We ordered two 8 piece boneless with Honey Garlic and one with the house sauce. Plus the red bean and cream cheese balls and cheese corn. The first 8 piece, the corn and balls came out. They were all good, and then the wait and wait and wait for the last 8 piece order. It took forever. So (thank you) they gave us an order of 6 dumplings. Nice touch, but not so fast as there are some issues here. First - a single packet of soy sauce with a 2oz portion cup is not enough for 6 dumplings. Some on put the soy sauce on the freaking table. Why so cheep or stingy with the inexpensive packet of soy sauce? Not good! The place is clean and very casual and well maintained. It should be its 3-weeks new. So we had leftovers and wanted to take them home. We got to go boxes. Packed up, paid the check and left. We then checked the bill. We were shocked that this place actually charged us 60 cents for each box. Again who does that! Do you charge your to go customers this? Do you tell your customers about this charge? If not, that's very deceptive of you as an owner. I checked the bill and started to look at value to what we got. $19 each for 8 piece boneless. - $2.38 per piece! Wow that's crazy. And we got two $10 for a small pan of cheese corn - it's golden corn from a package not Gold Corn. $8 for the red bean and cream cheese balls - $2 per ball. Again very expensive. I get that things are expensive but the boneless chicken was good but not at $2.38 per piece and that's if I give some wiggle room for the cost of everything going up. The corn dish was corn and cheese, yes dairy is increased in cost but packaged corn and some cheese heated and melty is not $10 worth when you consider if 4 people ate it, the servings would be maybe a tablespoon full also how about serving it with a spoon to get it out and not a fork! The red bean and cream cheese balls! At $2.50 is kinda steep. And not having soy sauce on the table is unlike any other Asian restaurant who puts it on the table. It's not that expensive to only give your customers a little packet. Then the charge for to go container! Why! This is so unlike any other restaurant. I know a new restaurant is hard to open and maintain as many fail but if this place continues to $.60 and $2 their customers to death, people will stop coming. So please look at what you are doing and consider changing. As for us, we are on the fence about this place. The chicken is good but possibly not $2.38 per piece good. The corn and cheese is not, and the red bean and cream cheese balls are not likely. So will I eat in again, not if unfairly treated to sit. And to order takeout and pay $.60 for containers is prohibitive. So where is that leave us, just the chicken and since we can't bring our own takeout containers, we are at a crossroads. We liked the service, the chicken and atmosphere but the other stuff not so much.

Barely melted cheese on the warm corn

This was their soft opening, so that is why we decided to come in. Always willing to support new Korean food establishments in the Puyallup. I ordered the tteokbokki as my meal, my wife also ordered Korean chicken. We also ordered corn cheese. The cheese corn came out warm with partially melted shredded cheese. This was not how cheese corn that we are used to we sent it back and it came back and was barely melted. Next the tteokbokki came out (and not with my wife's chicken). It came in a pretty boat, but for the cost I was expecting a bit more. It was like was also warm, the cheese was barely melted and the egg was cold. We had to send that back as well. When it came time to settle the bill, we again addressed the fact that both of our dishes were warm, and cheese barely melted, our server apologised profusely. Was hoping maybe a discount for sending out dishes that were warm. The set up is like the other BBQ chicken, tv's on the wall and concrete floor. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 due to it being soft opening (even they weren't very busy). We might try again based on reviews and if time allows the kitchen to send things out finished.

I was pretty pumped to see Puyallup was getting Korean Fried Chicken because if you live here, then you know the pickings are slim when it comes to Asian food in this area. I had tried the Tacoma location so was looking forward to it being here. Maybe it was off day, but I was highly disappointed. The chicken was not crispy at all, I thought that was the one standard of Korean Fried Chicken. Everything was just ok. My bill was close to $80 and in my opinion it was not worth it. My partner got a rice bowl with double meat and he said it lacked flavor. The noodle I dish I ordered was the wrong one, I wanted the non-spicy one and wound up with spicy. Overall I would not go back again.

If you had grown up in this part of Pierce County, you are familiar with the enormous changes. However, this is one restaurant that has stayed with the times. Locals know, this is the place to start with, an original - Ho Soon Yi. Where the place can easily be swallowed up by the hustle and bustle of businesses on a very busy city street, this casual sit-down Korean restaurant has the everyday favorites you are familiar with. Where many Korean American establishments focus on the BBQ aspect, Ho Soon Yi focuses and masters other parts Korean cuisine. Specifically the soups!! And they are tasty!! Definitely the tofu soups are there, but there are appetizers, fried rice, and the traditional small side dishes are also served. My friend and I ordered the savory seafood pancake as the appetizer. As for soups, I ordered the Pork Tofu Soup and it was great! Definitely satisfying, and I didn't miss the BBQ one bit. Yes, the do have kalbi and bulgogi (beef, pork and seafood) but that is for another time. There are definitely plenty dishes to try. And all are tasty. You won't be disappointed. There were only a few tables inside but almost half of them were already occupied with several customers. I was quickly seated for a table of 1. The tables are fairly close together and the noise level is low enough to hear conversations around me. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I did hear other customers comment at their tables that the food here is good. There's a few ajummas working here, so service was straightforward. I ordered the kalbi dolsot bibimbap, which seemed inexpensive and came with some complementary sides, and they were nice enough to cut my kalbi into bite-sized pieces for me. I would say, if I can finish my food in one sitting at a restaurant, I am either really hungry, satisfied, or both. In this case, it was both! This is my first dolsot bibimbap after moving to Washington recently, and I am glad it did not disappoint.

The Army Stew was very spicy and contained sausages, spam, kimchi, and ramen. There were plenty of proteins in this dish but I did wish the Army Stew had tteok-bokki. It was not as big as I expected. The Pork Cutlet with Cheese was the biggest positive surprise. The pork itself was crispy and savory and the gravy on top of it had a sweetness that complimented the savoriness of the pork. There was plenty of melted mozzarella cheese to help bind the gravy to the pork cutlet. The Kimchi pancake with pork was very big and had a crunchy outside. However, the batter a the kimchi itself was too soft on the inside and did not hold any texture. The pancake fell apart almost immediately when it was picked up. Atmosphere: 9/10 No frills pocha with K-pop in the background and k-pop on a large TV. The tables had a built in stove in the middle to keep all the stews and soups hot. Service: 8/10 Service was understandably a little slow due to there being only 1 server the entire night. I will say, the restaurant was at about 70% capacity. For being a Wednesday, the restaurant was a lot more full than I expected so I understand the slow service.

It was crunchy and not too salty or bland. The ratio of scallion, seafood, and batter was perfect. They did not skimp out on the squid. The size of the squid was about one phalange. When I bit into the squid it was chewy, springy, and meaty. It's amazing to me how they managed to make the pancake crunchy despite filling it with so many ingredients. The kimchi and radish were super flavorful and not too spicy! Kimchi was sooo good. Even though the side dishes were limited, I enjoyed the freshness and taste. I also tried the samgyetang (Korean chicken soup) and bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) for the first time. The samgyetang was light and hearty. The broth could have been a bit sweeter. I probably wouldn't order this again though because I like more flavor. Though the bibim naengmyeon was too spicy for me, it was refreshing. She told me full details of the menu to which is usually ordered or popular at the moment, since I couldn't decide myself. I loved everything she recommended and can't wait to go back again. I specially loved the kalbi and pork tofu combo . We did get the stone bibimpap as well which was amazing !! And the seafood pancake . However, I had a horrible experience with service in May. It was by far the WORST service I've ever received, even based Asian restaurant standards (iykyk). I've always had older servers, usually ladies but on occasion on gentleman. This time, it was a young girl. It was my first time seeing her there. She had no facial expression to start. And after she repeated our orders, it was incorrect so I correct her. She said "I know", and repeated the wrong order again. When I clarified by listing the correct order, she just rolled her eyes and walked away. Isn't it a server's job to take order, and make sure it's correct? I did not take away from the tips because there are other servers who helped bring our food and refill the banchans, but this encounter made me not want to go back for a while, despite how much I like the food. Management - please train your staff about customer service, especially the new hires.

But because of my family size and which wasn't stated anywhere on the menu or the facility, I was embarrassed in front of my family and asked to raise it to a minimum of 15%. A shame that this wasn't just reflected in the already high menu prices. Pay your employees instead of having them resort to such atrocious aggressive tactics and begging.
