Came back here around the fall, for my birthday but forgot to share my experience. We had a pretty good size group but the service was excellent. Most of my family had never been here but the staff was patient and helpful with the orders. I shared fried chicken with my wife, and ordered the meat combo fried rice. The picture I took didn't do the meal justice. It was very flavorful and the right amount. My kids loved the amount of options they had to choose from which is always a plus for me. I was really looking forward to trying this place while visiting Washington, but unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. I understand restaurants get busy, and I'm usually pretty patient, but the service just wasn't there. We waited nearly 30 minutes just to get a refill on our water, and throughout the meal it felt like we were being brushed off. Whether it was intentional or not, it honestly made us feel unwelcome. What really left a bad impression was the automatic gratuity added to the bill. I don't mind tipping for good service--in fact, I usually tip well--but when the service falls short and the gratuity is already included, it doesn't sit right with me. Had the service matched the prices, I would've gladly left a great review and an even better tip. The food was decent, but unfortunately the overall experience was overshadowed by the service. I'm only giving 3 stars because I did not personally enjoy or eat here but I can acknowledge when the building looks nice and the interior is clean. My husband son and I came here for lunch and all 3 of us were charged $50 for AYCE (my son is 10 and barely eats anything). When we went to order the waitress told us we could only order 4 meat items for the entire table. When I tried asking if we could order more after the 4 she said yes but it seemed confusing because it didn't feel like a clear yes. I found them on Resy and it was very easy to make a reservation. There is plenty of parking and it's a big restaurant. We were greeted and seated quickly and decided to do the AYCE option for $49.99/person. They gave us so many banchans it was crazy! They are very generous with each portion of meat and we tried the beef belly, bulgogi, marinated short ribs, LA kalbi and boneless short rib. All the meat was great quality and very tender. We liked the marinated short rib the best! I also tried the steamed eggs and soybean soup and it was delicious. I was way too full to try the other sushi rolls and sides but would definitely come back in a larger group. Visited Mukja KBBQ for an event and met the owner. Lovely staff and lovely owner. Mukja KBBQ in Puyallup is under new ownership. So me and my friends tried this place. What's nice is it's near the mall, and not too far from the Washington State Fair. So it's a great place to dine after shopping or having a day at the fair. Service was top notch. The owner was courteous and her staff ate the same. Place was clean including restrooms. The best part was the food. There was so much food that I could barely eat anymore, and rolled out of the place. I loved it all. I wanted to try everything, but my belly just couldn't take anymore. Some of my friends had the slushie with soju, I had the rice drink. So refreshing. My fave is always the beef bulgogi. I wanted to try the spicy cold crab, but I can't handle spice. We came to Mukja when they first opened and they didn't have AYCE. It was pricey for what you were getting but now they have AYCE and I can say it's so worth it! The meat is great quality and fresh. Service was a little slow as it took a bit to get our next orders of meat in. Side dishes were great and flavorful some places aren't as fresh and taste sour. So happy they now offer AYCE and we don't have to travel to federal/lakewood/Tacoma for Korean bbq anymore! read more

The new management isn't great. I've been going to Mukja since they first opened a few years ago, and it looks like they got sold out. I used to be able to spend only $80 + tip for two people with their combos, now it's $100 automatically for 2 people. It's like every basic AYCE Barbecue now. Now there's an extra $25 if you can't finish your food. Just like every other place. They have AI on their menu. They forgot our drinks. Didn't give us rice after asking twice. Under previous ownership we always got kimchi stew, rice, and side dishes. Now it's just side dishes. The cuts of meat were the most basic for having to spend over $150! We were also pushed to get MORE meat when we were full. I'm very disappointed. The only thing I enjoyed were some side dishes and the soju once we finally got it. I was trying to communicate with our waitress and she skipped over us plenty of times and ignored our requests. I don't think we'll be back unless the previous ownership takes over, or if they change their menu back to the original. It's tough times right now, and having to spend that much for some basic cuts of meat and two drinks is just insane. Definitely won't be back with all of the AI being used as well! read more

Great spot in Puyallup for Korean BBQ. Came in a group and did the all you can eat dinner. They have all the meats you could want. You can also order sushi rolls with the all you can eat price. I had a dragon roll and it was delicious. The banchan were also really good and they had a nice variety. The deal also comes with dessert and I had an ice cream cone. Someone in the group ordered the big "beer tower" and that was pretty cool. They have plenty of room inside to accommodate a big group and it wasn't loud inside. Service was great! The 2 stars are for the flavors of the food, because the food in general was not bad, but the whole experience just left A LOT to be desired. I feel like they're getting away with this because they're locally the closest/only BBQ place and they know it. I believe we got the combo B, and also ordered the Jap char and fried chicken. These two items were honestly more volume per price than the combo items. You don't truly get a lot in the combos and it took such a long time for anyone to get to our table, bring water and take our orders. For a Saturday night, they were busy, yes, and not completely full, so our waitress looked like a chicken without a head, running all over the place. The restaurant itself was fine, nothing to write home about. We didn't love the shared seating/family style table we were sat at, but can totally see how they're useful for big groups. Downside to this is that the grill controls are at the end of the table so your waitress has to do stuff for you. Arrived on a Monday night around 6 PM with a party of two and were seated immediately, with plenty of open tables, though the place filled up quickly by the time we left. It's a great spot for small or large groups. The atmosphere feels like a vibrant Korean street pub, with street-sign decor, TVs playing K-pop, and colorful neon lighting that gives the space a fun, energetic vibe. The combos here can easily be shared between 3 to 4 people. We ordered the pork belly combo, which came with pre-cut pork belly, kimchi, bean sprouts, and jalapeños. It was more than filling for both of us. We also added a side of corn cheese for $5 during happy hour. There's a large selection of drinks and cocktails, along with a happy hour menu offering discounts on appetizers and drinks Sunday through Thursday from 3 PM to 10 PM. Our server, Tae, was very friendly and responsive. As the dinner rush picked up, you could tell the service started to slow down a bit, but overall it was still a positive experience. This was our first time at Mukja. We loved everything about it. We were a party of four celebrating a birthday (ages ranged from 30 to 60). Three of us opted for the all-you-can-eat dinner while the other just ordered an entree. Service was spot on. The staff was helpful & friendly, and even took the time to share tips and recommendations. The food was amazing! We had several different tasty meats to cook (rib-eye, scallops, pork belly, shrimp, riblets, and more). You cook the meat at your table. The sides that come with the meal were equally as good (cucumbers, kimchi, potatoes, see-thru noodles, etc. - at least ten total, varying in texture, spiciness, and flavor). We ordered several "seconds" on those sides. We were completely satisfied and stuffed (there's even dessert on the all-you-can-eat menu). The cost was $50/person, much more steep than we typically do, but in the end we felt it was worth it for both the quality and quantity of food. We will be back! I finally made it to Mujka Korean BBQ and it definitely lived up to the hype! First off, this is not one of those all-you-can-eat buffet-style BBQ spots. You choose meat combos that fit your group size, which makes the experience feel more intentional and higher quality. The portions were generous, fresh, and perfect for grilling right at the table. The banchan (side dishes) were served to us, and whenever we needed more, our server brought them straight to the table -- no getting up to serve yourself. That level of service really stood out. You also have the option to order from the main menu if you don't prefer cooking on your own, which makes it great for everyone at the table. The variety of soups was another plus -- served family-style and perfect for 2-3 people to share. And the best part? If you have leftovers, you can take them to go -- something you don't get with buffet-style places. I was especially happy that our combo came with a big beef bone. I got to bring it home for my dog, and she was beyond excited! Shoutout to our server, Tae, who was superb and provided excellent customer service. We came here for my husband's birthday and it was a great time! My son loved the radishes and he's a huge fan of meat, so this was perfect. I realize some of it is expensive meat, but they force meats that I did not want, the cheap cut house beef no clue what it was, I only wanted the ribs and ribeye and brisket. But the waitress just automatically loaded the grill with seemingly any meat she wanted. We did have some of the meat we wanted but it is a buffet so I choose not the staff. We had a total of 8 of us and they only set out only 2 sets of side dishes placing them out of reach for most of us. They left the wax paper from the raw meat on the table several times. When you pull in to Mukja now, there's a big banner on the side reading "UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT". It turns out, this is a really bad thing. My family and I have enjoyed Mukja and have attended many times over the last couple of years. Last night when we went in and saw it was under new management, we didn't know what to expect. Historically, this restaurant has been excellent. Great service, great food, reasonable prices, and an overall enjoyable experience. But our recent visit was something else entirely. We were a group of five, sitting at a table with two grills. Upon ordering and our meat arriving, they would only turn on one of the grills. "You need to order at least three plates of meat for both grills to be on", we were told. We had only ordered two plates of meat amongst our other food, so they refused to turn on both grills. This forced us to cook everything on one grill then shuttle the food around the table. It also forced the person closed to the grill to be responsible for cooking and distributing it all instead of actually being able to enjoy their meal. On top of all this, once our meat was cooking, the server came back and for some reason *turned off* our only working grill. Once we realized it was off, we asked her to turn it back on, which she did. Then later when she came back to deliver something else, she turned off the grill AGAIN. I had to get up and go turn it back on myself. Absolutely silly they kept turning of the only food source they agreed to turn on in the first place. The food itself has gone downhill. We've been here enough times to immediately recognize the difference in overall taste and quality. It tastes like they're using lower-quality ingredients overall than what they were previously using. We used to love the food and it was delicious without question. Now it's very 5/10 "meh", average, middle of the road. The portions were smaller overall than what we'd gotten in the past. When the bill came, it was approximately $30 higher than what we typically paid in the past for the exact same food we'd previously ordered. At the end when I went to go pay, my wife got up to ask for boxes, which they brought. When my wife realized they hadn't brought enough boxes, she went to ask for another one. The woman my wife asked went back to the table and actually wanted to clarify we did in fact need another box, as if we were trying to rip them off for a free box or something. It was bizarre she needed to verify our actual need. Another thing worth noting, as the customers sitting around us finished up and left, nobody came by to clean up their tables. The pic you see here is our table plus three others. The three others had been gone at least 20 minutes with nobody coming by to bus those tables. It just seems like they don't care. On top of all this, there was an issue with their terminal causing customers to not be able to pay. I get these things happen, but having to stand in line for 20 minutes to pay for a very sub-par experience just didn't sit well overall. They had the customer in front of me either Venmo or PayPal them since they couldn't find another way for him to pay. To sum up: Refusing to turn on the second grill at our table, turning off our first grill repeatedly, worse food than before that costs more for smaller portions, and needing to verify when we ask for another box, 20 minute delay in paying, and unbussed tables. Believe me when I say this place has gone downhill in a MAJOR way. It's too bad, they used to be great, now they've permanently lost my me and my entire family as customers. My advice: Avoid Mukja entirely. It's not worth the money for the very poor experience you now get. read more

Very disappointed in the change in Mukja. We used to eat there pretty regularly but will have to find somewhere else for our Korean BBQ fix. Portions, quality and service have declined. The meat is chewy and poorly marinated. Now I know you can say it's now all you can eat, so just order more. Food is very slow to come after ordering, staff seems overwhelmed and over worked, and there's barely any room on your table since the give you nine plates of a spoonful of sides on each. Our wonderful, flavorful Soju towers are gone. Replaced with beer/ soju bomb style towers that cost more than before. Really sad they made such a drastic change. If that is what all you can eat did go back to the old menu. I also really miss the fun vibe Mukja used to have. And the amazing hand painted floors which have now been sanded away I guess. Too quiet, too sad and too rushed. Leaves me sad and hungry. read more

What a yummy Korean barbecue. We had Wagyu, chicken and brisket. The sides were also yummy. The one dish I had for the first time was Kimchi soup, all I can say is WOW!! The service was OK maybe a communication barrier and waitress not really able to assist in choices and just appeared rushed. Food and atmosphere made up for it. Definitely would go back again. TIP-the prices appeared to be per person so thought extremely expensive but when you choose and it recommends 1-3 that is for all 3 not per person. Me and my family went to Mukja this weekend. Even though there was bit of a wait, it was worth it. My favorite part was the side dishes. Typically other Korean places really don't offer much variety of side dishes, but Mukja has tons. My favorite was the veggie pancake and the spicy rice cake. It takes me back to me when I visited Korea. The meat quality was also good. The wait staff is very attentive, they came to our table a lot. My son even got free ice cream delivered by the waitress. Ah yes, KBBQ has finally landed in Puyallup. Happy to say Mukja has some proper KBBQ and then some. Honestly its a a one stop shop kind of spot where they literally have almost everything on their menu. From KBBQ to Soondubu to KFC(Korean Fried Chicken) to Naengmyeon (Cold Noodles) the menu has pretty much everything. Ive been by here twice with the family when I was in town and can say the quality of the meat here is better than the all you can eat spots you might be driving to. The name of the game here is Quality over Quantity, but no matter which combo you choose you wont be leaving hungry. Got the combo C both times since they were all beef, and it didnt disappoint. This is going to be our go to whenever we visit. The banchan here is pretty good too as well as the doenjang jjigae (soybean stew). A very welcome addition to Puyallup. We no longer need to drive to Federal Way to get our fix when im home visiting. Check this place out! read more

My boyfriend and I came in during their late night happy hour as we were in the area finishing some errands and wanted to get food before we called it a day. When we got to the parking lot, we noticed it was pretty full and took that as a good sign especially on a Thursday night. I love the neon signs that not only adorned the windows but on the walls of the restaurant. It definitely gave us off Korean pub/bar vibes. The restaurant seems to be more catered to a younger audience, super casual and energetic. Although, the bathroom interior design is of old traditional Korean paintings and Korean poetry. I love that though as this is Puyallup's first Korean BBQ and just in general the only real Korean restaurant so I love that they showcase all types of Korean culture, arts, and designs. K-pop was played a decent volume level and we didn't have trouble hearing one another or even others. They also had various TVs playing different K-pop music videos too! As we arrived inside, we were greeted by a friendly waitress who showed us to a table and gave us menus. Another waitress came by with waters and she would end up being our main waitress for our dining experience. I got the Sweet Seoul Strawberry and naengmyeon while my boyfriend got a chicken katsu and chicken fried rice. It took some time to receive our food and it didn't come in the order I expected as it was the fried rice, naengmyeon and chicken katsu. Nothing came all together which was interesting as I think we were the only ones who ordered since the other large party inside was a party doing KBBQ. Just a heads up for those who prefer to have their food all together and relatively around the same time as others. The food was very delicious though! We were impressed with the generous portions and it definitely makes sense why they are priced the way they are. I would love more toppings on naengmyeon as I feel this the most skimpiest of naengmyeon toppings but they provided plenty of noodles which was nice. I guess my advice is to order on the happy hour menu if you want to eat stuff with your naengmyeon. The banchan was also really good and the waitress checks on you often to get you refills, which I really appreciated. This is coming from a Korean who lives in Federal Way so I know what good Korean food tastes like and Mukja definitely nails it on flavor, as well as gorgeous presentation! The service here was very professional and personable as the waitress would joke with us, ask questions to get to know us, and treat us as real people. I could hear the other waitress be really sweet and fun to the big party table as well, so you can tell that these employees enjoy their job and want to give their customers a memorable time.
