This little clean Korean meal box place is cute. The boss lady up front was nice but it does take a bit to get food out. You order at the counter and find a table to eat inside or take out. My husband enjoyed the short ribs and my Bolbugi pork was good. We tried the kimchi fries and that was just ok. The kimchi is more Americanized.
We stopped by this restaurant on our way to Olympia. There is parking available within the shopping complex. The restaurant itself is fast-casual. You order at the counter and they bring the food out. For the price, the food is decent. I tried their Bibimbap, crispy chicken sandwich, garlic chicken wings, and jumbo beef tacos. The food tasted fresh and the portions are decent. My only gripe was that the wings were a tad too soggy for me.
Kimchi box is a great lunch option in central Tacoma. The food is good and the meals all come as a well balanced meal option with proteins vegetables and carbohydrates. I wouldn't call it health food but it's a healthier option than a lot of the lunch spots. Food is ordered at the counter and brought to your table, the service is usually friendly and fast. Atmosphere is casual, just a week day lunch kind of vibe. It's also a kid friendly place if you're looking for a casual spot to take young ones. My kids really like the kimchi fries and I'm a big fan of spicy pork bulgogi or japchae. Price for 3 people was under $50 with tip.
After a long day of volunteering for the holiday, my friend and I were on the hunt for a good meal to reward ourselves. We stumbled upon Kimchi Box, and what an amazing find it turned out to be! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by how spotless and inviting the place was. The lady behind the counter greeted us with a warm smile and genuine friendliness. She patiently answered all our questions about the menu and never once made us feel rushed, even as we took our time deciding. Truly some of the best customer service I've experienced! Once we sat down, the food started arriving, and it looked (and smelled) incredible. We started with the gyoza, which was perfectly crispy and cooked to perfection. Next came the sweet chili chicken wings--seasoned just right, with the perfect kick of spice. I ordered the honey garlic popcorn chicken, which came with beautiful purple Korean rice, a fresh side salad, and a tangy kimchi salad. Every bite was delicious--I didn't leave a single crumb on my plate! My friend raved about her bulgogi taco, and together we demolished the gyoza and wings. The vibe inside is cozy and welcoming, a big contrast to its humble exterior in the plaza. If you're in Tacoma and craving something delicious, Kimchi Box is a must-try. I can't wait to come back and explore more of their menu!
Food was soo good!! We got the bbq pork, the pork was delicious, and I'm obsessed with the noodles that come with. They are super bouncy and delicious! The staff was very nice as well. A tad overpriced but not too bad. Definitely need to come back to try the short ribs and wings!
Ordered a bulgogi box and gyoza on an early Saturday afternoon and they did not disappoint. They were not busy for lunch. Only a family was present with a few spots open. The pork dumplings were okay, but the kimchi box was great. Ordered the spicy pork box with kimchi, which was an extra $2 on top of the $15 box. Pork dumplings were not worth the $10. The spicy pork box was worth the price as they stuff that box and do not leave you starving. I could not even finish half of it. My friend also thought it was worth the price. You can add sauce to the kimchi boxes but they are either $1 or $2 extra depending on the sauce. We also spent about quite an amount of time here catching up and they didnt mind at all. Overall, I definitely recommend them! They can be pricey, but their boxes are worth the try.
Randomly found this gem while I was out and about in Tacoma and so happy I did! I love AYCE Korean bbq but sometimes I don't like paying the price. kimchi box offers everything you would get at Korean bbq but half the price. The portions were bigger than I expected and can easily be shared among 2 ppl. The service was nice and they gave me free dipping sauce in my Togo order!
My Tio Franky treated me on 5/29/24 after visiting my Mommy's grave which is Mountain View cemetery. The restaurant is located at the Center Street Plaza. The restaurant is not very big. Interior is clean. Tv screen available with Korean drama show running. The service is quick and efficient. We both ordered the short ribs which comes with rice, salad and japchae $18.00. We also ordered a side of japchae noodles $9.00 plus bulgogi $3.00 and a side of kimchi $2.00. I got hot tea. My Tio got coke. The food is flavorful and delicious!! The portions are generous. I definitely plan on returning when back in this area.
I stopped in because I was really excited to get a potato corn dog with cheese, but I didn't realize they didn't have a no meat option. Some of the other places I have been to you can get just plain cheese or you can have sausage and cheese. Anyhow, as a vegetarian, I decided to try the tofu tacos. Wow! They were delicious! I could have easily just eaten one. I saved the second one for a later time. Definitely try the tacos! I would love it if they would offer just a plain cheese dog with or without potatoes, but it was still really tasty.
Thoughtful seating options, kind enough staff, friendly owner, clean, hot food, flavorful! I would recommended the wings, great taste with a refreshing radish side. For the area, I was impressed with easy parking, and great taste/diverse choices. Would love to stop by again.

Kimchi Box is a solid place given the area and lack of good Asian food. I really enjoyed the bimbimbap which had a ton of variety of vegetables and banchan, some not so traditional like beans and corn. It did include japchae which was a great surprise, and the serving size is huge. The prices are also great for how much food you get. Everything is so overpriced now. You'd definitely be paying $20+ for this size bjmbjmbap elsewhere. Some other pros were the flavor of the sauces. We loved the flavor of the Korean sassy wings and the soy garlic on the chicken sandwich. The small order of wings came with 6 perfectly cooked and crispy pieces. Our complaints are similar to those others have made in their reviews. The chicken in the chicken sandwich was tough to bite through. DO NOT GET THE PLAIN FRIES - they were so sad and tasteless, texture just did nothing as well. As other have said, the lady taking orders will make suggestions like adding kimchi but won't state that it costs extra. She also misheard me on the phone and added an extra order of fries...even though I repeatedly just to confirm my order on the phone. The kimchi is on the sour side which I don't mind but it's probably not what a lot of people are used to. Despite these set backs, I would return and try some of their other items. We were pretty happy with our meal otherwise!

Best recommendation from a coworker! My husband and I had dinner at Kimchi Box as came highly recommended by a colleague. It's located in a shopping strip, but parking wasn't difficult at all. We shared the calamari sticks as an appetizer. They were crispy and came with a sweet sauce. I ordered the royal beef bulgogi kimchi box for my main entree. Rookie mistake that I've learned from for next time - order extra radish kimchi and a fried egg on top. Otherwise, it would have been chefs kiss perfect. The beef bulgogi was marinated so well it made the meat tender and super flavorful. The rice tastes like it has a bit of coconut oil in it, which I really enjoyed! For drinks, there is a beverage case with soda, tea, and water. The staff were friendly, but not too attentive. Our cashier was on the phone during our order. There is plenty of indoor seating, very clean, and with a tv playing shows and music videos. You really come here for the good comfort food! read more

Excellent food and service. I same in just 15 minutes before they closed. The lady was patient with me and helped me order something wheat free. Lots and lots of choices!! I got my food to go since I'm tired and hungry and just want to get home Service was great, food smells and looks amazing. I'll be back! read more
Yummm. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on Korean food nd flavors. But I can tell you the food tasted great and reasonably priced. $15 for a box with main, rice salad and another side that varies. Was a tasty noodle dish on this day. Add $1 for kimchi. Do this. I ordered spicy pork and good flavors and was actually fairly mild on the heat .i also ordered the popcorn chicken with garlic soy marinade and perfectly cooked. Juicy chicken and crisp and could have kept eating it all night. Lady who runs the place worked register and was friendly and helpful with expectations. Expect a wait as fairly popular and more of a pickup then eat in as far as the environment goes. They have been open about a month. Go here you won't be disappointed read more

Another day of exploring restaurants near me. This time I was craving some sort of chicken and rice bowl. So, I immediately open the YELP app to find that place. I definitely found that place at Kimchi Box. The parking is plentiful and the restaurant is a nice clean space with ample seating. We placed an order to go and the service was very good. For our entrees we chose the bbq and avocado bento box and the popcorn chicken bento box. The bbq chicken was tender and excellent flavor. The popcorn chicken was very tasty, but a tad chewy for me. The rice that comes with the meal is very good along with the salad and glass noodles. Our overall experience was great and we will definitely be back. read more

I visited the restaurant for the first time today. I was looking in the window to see the menu and staff came out to greet me and give me a paper menu. I looked it over and decided I needed Japchae noodles in my life. I went in and was greeted again and I ordered. The food came very quickly and with a warm smile. The restaurant is very casual and has a tv playing videos of Korean street food being made. The restroom was clean and stocked when I went to wash my hands. The food is excellent and flavorful. Japchae noodles are a simple dish, and this has the flavor you want. The kimchi is crisp and spicy and goes well with the Japchae. I WILL COME BACK! YUUUUUUMMMMM!!!! read more

Well it's my bday today. Hubby home from work and we came here for lunch! It's on the side strip of the place where McDonald is. Going out to dinner with friends so I'm eating small plates. He is having on Snack menu "Japchae noodle with bulgogi $12. And I'm having small wings with Korean sassy sauce plus pork dumplings steamed. He has been here before and said it's good. You order at counter. They will bring out your food if u eat here. Food review: wow the Korean sassy sauce is a spiceyyyy but good. Once the initial heat covers da mouth ya looking good! Sort of sweet n spicy. The steamed pork dumplings also yummy. Must be that other sauce is garlic soy. Good with the dumplings. His Japchae with bulgogi was good and his kimchi. Yummy and lovin this place! Hubby was still hungry so he ordered Ramen with Bulgogi. Wow nothing here is bad. I tasted everything too. Is very casual in here. The owner lady also came over and talked to us a bit when she brought out food too I like that! read more

Owner wasn't very nice and acted like it was an inconvenience being there in the middle of the day. Ordered the Royal Bulgogi Box and was disappointed, their kimchi box does not come with kimchi and the sides were miserable. Not good enough to justify the price. Try any other Korean restaurant around I promise it'll be better. read more

Been wanting to try this place out for a while and finally got the chance to today! We got the Spicy Pork Taco, Popcorn Chicken Kimchi Box, and Spicy Pork Kimchi Box! Everything was really tasty and reasonably priced! I just wish the popcorn chicken was a bit crispier and had more sauce! Other than that this is a good place to get a quick lunch or dinner. Will be trying their Korean Fried Chicken and Chicken Sandwich next time! read more

Kind service. I got the Kimchi box. Tender bulgogi with fresh salad and noodles in addition to rice and some chewy rice things (I don't know what they are called). Seemed like a nice portion and great value at $15. My partner got a kimchi chicken sandwich that he said was great and came with enough fries to share a few :) Also reasonably priced. The restrooms were so clean. Not a fancy restaurant, more fast casual. Would love to go back if in the area again. read more
Such a great addition to Tacoma. Such welcoming service from an older lady (unsure if owner). I ordered a couple weeks ago and got an order of the Seoul Chicken Burger, Sassy fries, and popcorn chicken. Honestly not the crunchiest of fried chickens but the flavors are there. I was ravenously hungry and ate my chicken burger quickly. The store itself is very modern and clean. I'm excited to try more items on the menu and have referred my coworkers to trying out this spot. read more
Came here after seeing some good reviews. Ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Sassy Fries The Good: Cleanliness- What hits you first is how clean this place is. No trash anywhere, clean tables, floor, counter, etc. Very nice to see no clutter or leftover debris. Price.-For 14$ I got a nice size chicken sandwich and side of fries. Nice simple menu, you won't have to flip through 10 pages of junk. Clear choices, good variety with some unique sounding flavors/combo. The (not too) Bad: The chicken was overcooked, like, hard to tear through fried. Not too much batter, but a really tough piece. Lost a lot of juice by being overcooked. Comes with sauce and pickled onions which was nice. Would've loved more sauce on top and more onions to punch with the flavor. Fries sadly were undercooked and limp which stinks because the sassy toppings were great. The Ugly: N\A. This place has no crazily outstanding issues. Was I nitpicking with the fries and sandwich? I don't think so. The Skinny: I will be coming back to try different menu items. Friendly staff and fast pickup and close to my work. read more

This place could be 5 stars, there's just a couple of strong issues that made me rate it this way. The biggest issue is what's also listed in other reviews. The chicken, no matter the dish, is incredibly tough to eat, and the inside is not tender to compensate. If the chicken was cooked differently to not be so tough , I would have given this 5 stars as the flavors are still there, the texture is just completely off. The sauces and seasoning on things like the chicken sandwich and kimchi box are great, just super tough chicken itself. This may be on us too, but beware when you are ordering, the lady at the register will ask you if you want to add things to your order and then not tell you they cost $$ until you've already paid. Kimchi was not good. Fries are boring and plain. White sauce is just like a sweet mayo. Service was decently fast and the interior is very clean. I would try it again one more time in hopes the chicken will be more edible. Bonchon in Seattle is a nicer substitute. read more
