2 meats with rice, duck and soy chicken shown
    Ben Y.

Not bad. The meats were pretty tasty. The BBQ pork was a bit on the lean/dry side. The soy chicken has good taste. The duck has good taste but one of the pieces was dry and the skin was not edible. Each plate comes with a small vegetable serving and a bowl of soup. Solid but not exceptional. But I would eat it again.

My go to restaurant in Chinatown! I wish that they delivered - I would certainly have it more often. I always get (and recommend either the wings or duck). I cant recommend anything else because I've been hooked on those 2 things for the past 3 years! With the wings, make sure you go earlier in thr day because they always sell out. I just went and they had like 6 left, so I ordered a quarter BBQ chicken leg to go with it. Enjoy!

Located in the heart of Chinatown, the third largest Chinatown in America BBQ King House serves up some of the best roast pork, BBQ duck, and squid in the Windy City. After a long day of walking and exploring Chinatown, we were more than ready to head back to our hotel with some food to go from BBQ King House. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the irresistible aroma of Chinese barbecue, instantly making our stomachs growl. Despite the busy lunch rush, the line moved quickly, and the staff kept things efficient and organized. Right at the front, there's an impressive display of roast duck, BBQ pork, steamed chicken, chicken wings, and squid hanging fresh and glistening under the lights. We decided to go with the combo meals, which came with your choice of proteins, steamed white rice, fresh bok choy, and a complimentary Chinese herbal chicken soup. Everything was packaged neatly in sturdy containers, sealed tightly, and bagged securely, which was perfect for the trip back to the hotel. Once we got back, the only thing on my mind was devouring that BBQ but of course, the camera eats first! The BBQ pork was juicy and tender, packed with rich flavor from the spices and seasonings, and finished with that perfect slight crisp on the edges. The roast duck was succulent and deeply savory, with crispy skin and flavorful juices that had me savoring every bite. The BBQ squid was sweet and firm, with just the right chew and a subtle kick that made it stand out. Pouring the savory meat drippings over the freshly steamed jasmine rice took everything to another level. But surprisingly, the true star of the show was complimentary herbal chicken soup. Even after the trip back, it was still piping hot. As I lifted the lid, steam rushed out carrying a comforting, earthy aroma. The broth was rich with umami flavor, infused with traditional Chinese herbs and accented by tender chicken and fresh carrots. It was the perfect balance for the bold barbecue flavors. The vibrant green bok choy was also perfectly blanched packing me with my daily fiber needs that left me feeling healthy! Overall, this spot is hands down one of the best bang for your buck meals you'll find when visiting Chinatown in Chicago. The combo meals are very affordable, the portions are generous, and the service is fast and professional. They keep the line moving while still delivering quality that feels as if you were in a world class resort! If you're in Chicago and craving authentic Chinese BBQ, BBQ King House is a must visit. I highly recommend!

This place was really good with portion sizes enough for three people. The service was really fast, the food was so yummy, and well priced. Would definitely come back for a quick lunch meal

Finished doing taxes in Chinatown so no brainer to reward ourselves with delicious hot fresh bbq pork won ton noodle with yu choy! Add bbq pork and roast pork to go and all set for more meals. Prices have risen naturally but so worth it. Service fast efficient always amidst bustling crowds on a Saturday.

Overall (A) There are so many places to choose from in Chinatown Chicago and this is one of best. It's a safe bet place for excellent service, a good value and great food. Plus they have outdoor seating which is great in the summer. Service (A+) Super fast and friendly. They were super busy but they took my order fast, were helpful and the food came fairly quick, considering it was packed inside. Value (A-) I paid around $40 for the 1.5x of us to eat. Got the 3 meat bbq - which is a bit pricey but if was really good. Shared some with my daughter who got dumplings at a different place. Food (A) It was soooo good - I basically just got meat - but the chicken , duck and pork were excellent. I would recommend this it is basically a meat lovers dish. All 3 meats were perfectly cooked. I am coming here next time again

Another place I love to visit when I'm in town. Usually after visiting hing kee. Today I grabbed the usual duck and rice dish. A generous portion of duck on steamed rice with a sauce and baby bok choy. I believe it was around 12 bucks. I think it's a good value. I think the duck tastes delicious. The rice was also good. I took it back to the place I was staying at and it was well packed with additional service wear. They also gave me a soup which was delicious. Service was very helpful. Just a very casual low-key dining room. There is parking around the area, although can be difficult during peak business hours and warmer weather. It was kind of quiet today due to the severe weather.

This is a casual restaurant in Chicago that focuses on grilled meats and classic Hong Kong BBQ. Overall it was solid but nothing that really wowed me. The Mongolian beef was average because the beef was a little too fatty for my liking but the flavors were great. The soya chicken and duck were tasty, with the duck being some of the better ones I had. The BBQ ribs and squid were okay, but I probably wouldn't order those again. Fun casual stop if you're already in Chinatown Square.

Classic Cantonese roasted meat store, where you are greeted with the lines of roasted meat handing on display. There's actually more people buying whole ducks, and other roasted meat like char siew togo instead of dining in. I got their duck with rice, ans it comes with a bowl of soup. Love Cantonese soups, alway packed with ingredients like carrots, meats and other veggies. Duck with rice is good too, meat is tender and thick! Unlike other roasted meat stores where their ducks are skinny. Skin isnt too fatty too! Would recommend

Roast duck and roast pork below average (only look good in picture) the intestines were tasty thou. I always appreciate being able to get my Chinese tummy fixed during travel so that didn't cuz the one star! The waitress is okay but not the older lady looks about in her 70's cashier! She was mean as h*** scolding at the cashier for no reason. Cashier told her I'm paying cash, she went crazy and yelled out "well...that's my job not yours! You don't touch the cash!" Cashier try to walk away with a lite smile as to ease the tension. The cashier lady start yelling again "don you laugh, you laugh like that I get scare!" then she demand rudely with me "where is the receipt?" I said oh that's my receipt. She started yelling again "give me that receipt, I needed it to do my end of the day! If you want a receipt you have to ask me!" I paid to enjoy my meal hellooo???? And felt sorry for the waitress!

Wow what a great spot!!! I stopped here on a whim but I am definitely planning to come back next time I'm in Chicago! I don't know the history or background but my impression is this is a classic Chicago Chinese bbq spot. They have a huge menu and I'm impressed by the quality of the ingredients, large serving size and great price! I was surprised that my meal came with a side of delicious soup too! Highly recommend

I've been here before with a better experience but my last time here I made the mistake of coming an hour before closing. The first time it was a four star experience, this time it was a two star time, so I guess it averages to just okay. The barbeque combination came out refrigerator cold, so we sent it back and it came back tepid. It was overcooked so it had been sitting out for a long time, put away for a while, and for the Love of Mike, the name of the place is "BBQ King..." More like a BBQ knave. However, the fried jumbo shrimp (salt and pepper style) was very good. Plenty of rice came with, but not altogether. Waitress was good, though she had too many tables. It closes an hour after most of the neighboring restaurants so it gets filled up an hour before closing, not sure why they would start putting their signature food away early.

I am pleased to report that Blackwood BBQ is somewhere between "good" and "very good". It won't knock your socks off, but it is nowhere close to "bad." It's perfect for what it is, that being: a spot for a bite during the lunch hour. On both visits, I ordered the two meat platter, with brisket and sausage. Both were flavorful and savory, with the brisket being balanced in terms of meaty vs fatty (as requested). Now, that said, the prices at Blackwood are on the high side. On the one hand, I know the price of a pound of ground beef is greater than the minimum wage (as of this writing). However, I also can't help but feel the punch to the wallet when two meats and one side, where one of those is brisket, and a soda comes to somewhere between $20-25 (I think it's close to $25, but don't want to misspeak). Half a pound of meat is not a lot, making the wallet punch even worse. Then there comes the service. Most of the folks working here are professional and welcome. There is this one person, though, whose level of gruffness seems a bit high. It wasn't so much a lack of pleasantries for the sake of efficiency as it was annoyance that customers exist? Final verdict: If you're working in the loop, and craving BBQ, Blackwood is a rock-solid spot, but the high prices mean it likely isn't practical for a regular spot. If it's a weekend, there are better options out there.

If you are a foodie like me, then you know what the next few minutes--or, better yet, seconds--consisted of. Yes, I pretty much devoured that vegan sloppy joe, leaving nothing behind but what was left on my fingertips. The last time I had a vegan sloppy Joe was a few years ago in celebration of my birthday, and trust me, it wasn't as good as this one at Soul & Smoke. It could easily be confused with real meat if you aren't aware that it is vegan. I saved the side order for last, which was that delicious-looking mac and cheese. Mmm... "Oh my God!" was my initial response after my first forkful, which was lightly seasoned with a delightful taste. I must say it was the perfect side for the vegan sloppy joe. After my last bites, I had the slightest grin on my face, and the only thing on my mind was that I will definitely have it again in the future. The sprecher soda - cherry cola was the perfect complement to my meal. Introduced to me by Soul & Smoke, I am so pleased with this award-winning craft soda from Milwaukee's oldest craft brewery that I will be on the lookout for it in the future. I would gladly order from Soul & Smoke Avondale again, whether online or whenever I am in the area. With that, I am happy to share my endorsement of it with you all here on Yelp. Up until four years ago, I used to visit at least five or six times every single year. Last night was my first time back since then, and I was deeply disappointed by how much the standards have slipped. The entire evening felt incredibly rushed. The person taking our order seemed to be in a massive hurry, acting short and dismissive with us. To make matters worse, an automatic gratuity was added to the bill. While I understand this is becoming a common industry practice, a gratuity should ultimately be an option based on service. The server did mention at the end that we could have it removed if we wanted to, but customers shouldn't be forced into that awkward position in the first place. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has also gone downhill. I always used to order the ribs and frequently took extra food home because it was so good. Last night, the food left a lot to be desired. The barbecue simply isn't what it once was. When my uncle graduated in the 90s we went to your previous downtown location. He loved the restaurant as well; the food, the exceptional service, and the warm atmosphere. I went there year after year. While I respect that they have managed to stay in business for 30 years, there were just too many issues with both the service and the food for me to return.
