Hole in a wall canto spot that's great for family style dinning. Byob is a plus! What to get: - sweet and sour spare ribs/pork (great tang to it) - enoki mushroom veggie stir fry - salt and pepper Japanese tofu (very crispy!) - lobster was fine, normal - beef ho fun was fine, normal - salt and pepper shrimp was fine, size was large - free range chicken was fine What NOT to get: - walnut shrimp (too much Mayo, shrimp is too breaded) - mapo tofu (southerners just can't get this right) - Szechuan green beans - curry beef brisket casserole (bland curry, gristly beef) - lamb casserole See a theme? Stick to the canto dishes and you will be just fine! We would come back for more fam bam dinners. 9 people with 10 dishes (and free soup at beginning and free dessert soup at end) was $190 + tip.

I haven't been here since the pandemic! I was really surprised that the food was still delicious and very tasty! The amount they give you is huge too! We had family style and all the food takes me back to my childhood days! The service was good and you can validate your parking for 3 hours and paid $2 at the parking lot on Wentworth and Cermak! It's a real good deal! The restaurant was pretty busy with a few large groups of ladies for a Saturday afternoon!

This is another lowkey restaurant located in old Chinatown. Upon walking in, all you see are regular locals eating here. They are well known for their rice clay pots, especially the eel one. Make sure to order ahead for this because it takes a little longer to prepare! While the eel meat is used in the rice dish, the eel bones don't go to waste! They are roasted and turned into an eel and tofu soup. It's super flavorful and milky (we were too excited for it and i forgot to snap a pic ~sadness). The rice clay pot came SIZZLING, and the server helped us mixed it and scraped off the crunchy rice all around the sides and bottom of the pot. It was so good, a must try if you come here. We also ordered salt & pepper squid, deep fried intestines, and garlic pea tips. Everything was very fresh and flavorful. Overall, if you are looking for a satisfying, yummy, cantonese style meal, definitely give Kam Fung a try!

It has been awhile since we have eaten here and I forgot how good the food was. This time around we came for lunch and had a 10 course meal (unfortunately did not get a photo of all the dishes). This restaurant is good at the home cooked dishes and if you want to eat some good home cooking, this is the place. Steamed egg, minced pork, not typical dishes you find in the restaurants. The chicken was also done really well too, oh how I have missed this dish. Everything was good today. The restaurant isn't all that big, but there are large tables to seat big groups.

Kam Fung is off the main road through Old Chinatown, about half a block away from the hustle bustle. It didn't appear too crowded, although this was on a cold weekday night. Still, the restaurant got busy enough that they ran out of seats for smaller parties - we (a party of two) were seated at one of the banquet round tables made to seat 8+ guests. I had a good laugh because additional people came in and so the restaurant seated another couple across from us at the same table - a true Cantonese experience. That being said, I didn't have any complaints about the service. We had our order taken quickly and the food came out quickly as well. Food-wise was where everything shined. As others have mentioned, this place is known for their claypot rice, and it really is fantastic. If you order the eel one, they will take the leftover eel parts and cook it into a soup, which tastes very umami. The claypot rice perfectly stuck to the sides of the serving dish, creating a crunchy exterior that went perfectly with the small cuts of fish. We of course ordered a vegetable dish, which had a good flavor of wok hai. Portion sizes were manageable for two people, and we had ample leftovers with just these three dishes. Overall, I was very impressed with Kam Fung and am looking to come back soon. The claypot rice was perfect for the chilly weather, and it'll only get better as winter rolls into town.

Love this place. It's like home to me. Favorite place to eat Cantonese / Toishan food. It's the spot to go to with family or for gatherings. I want to share their menu because they don't advertise much but please support. I swear best food ever. My favorite exotic dish is eel pot rice and snails. Their salt and pepper shrimp and chicken are absolutely amazing if you can't decide. They have a great lunch special as well.

This is the last time to eat here. If I could give zero stars I would. Came here for lunch were the dishes are smaller and discounted. We ordered 3 dishes. The first dish came out after 15 mins. We started eating and waited for the next two. Meanwhile a table that came in after us ordered a dinner for 6 had received 2 dishes before our second dish came. Our second dish came 30 mins. after the first dish. After 45 mins after receiving the first dish we were waiting for the waitress so we could cancel and get the check. That's when the last dish came. The food was less than par and could have saved the headache and had a full price lunch elsewhere. And paying discounted price doesn't get the same quality of taste and preparation. The salted fish fried rice was so salty we mixed a bowl of white rice with it. Yes the salted fish made it salty but they added more salt to the dish. The salt & pepper squid had so many jalapeño peppers we barely got much squid. The mustard green with beef chow fun had so much gravy that asking for crispy chow fun was a waste. Only a few pieces didn't sit in the gravy so it wasn't soggy and still had a bit of crunch. No more.

Tucked into a no-frills corner on the South Side, Dai Yee's looks modest from the outside, but step in after 10 p.m. and it's pure magic. The room is packed with everybody--sneakerheads, nurses coming off shift, club kids, cops, and couples on first dates who somehow heard the legend. The vibe is chaotic in the best way: woks roaring, orders flying, and that unmistakable perfume of sizzling garlic, ginger, and chili filling the air. The food is straight-up stupid good. The Hong Kong-style salt & pepper smelts are crackly, spicy, and gone in 30 seconds. The beef chow fun has that elusive wok hei (breath of the wok) that most places only dream of, wide rice noodles slick with smoky char and tender flank steak. The black pepper beef tenderloin is velvet-soft, glossy, and aggressively peppery in a way that makes you order extra rice just to survive the happiness. The Singapore noodles are bright curry perfection, and the Mongolian beef is saucy, crispy-edged, and borderline addictive. Portions are straight out of the 90s--massive trays that could feed a family of four for under $15. Cash-only, BYOB, and everything comes out blazing hot in under ten minutes even when the place is slammed. The ladies running the show are legends: fast, funny, and they'll roast you (lovingly) if you can't handle the spice level you asked for. If you leave Chicago without hitting Dai Yee's at least once (preferably at 1 a.m. with a six-pack), you didn't really experience the city. This is real-deal, no-filter, soul-satisfying Chinese food that reminds you why we fall in love with restaurants in the first place. Dai Yee's isn't just a restaurant; it's a Chicago institution in the making. I'd wait in line in a blizzard for those smelts. See you at midnight.

We had starters - fried calamari and a spring roll sort of thing. We also had eggplant, another stir fry and walnut shrimp. All of it was fresh and delicious. To be clear- it was delicious! It's just that I had already had two fried appetizers so would preferred something lighter. The eggplant dish was my favorite! And the special cocktails were also delightful. The restaurant is very busy and a little noisy at times, but it didn't detract from our experience.

It's crazy it's completely died down by the time we were finished with our meal. The service was great, the interior decor was beautiful and the staff was friendly. The dim sum offered for brunch was good as well but pricey. Especially since some dishes were only offered with two pieces. If you have a party of three then you're kind of forced into buying two of the same dishes. Which is strange. Traditionally most dim sum dishes have three pieces. Rarely see 2 pieces being offered especially for double the price. We ordered their Jiaozi, Char Sui Bao, crab Rangoon, chilly chilli noodles, and their Xiang long Bao. All were great. The chilly chilli noodles is served cold and was very flavorful. The Xiang Kong Bao was amazing. The potstickers was probably my favorite dish and it's mess up char Sui Bao. We were going to order wings but they had ran out I guess by 12pm on a Sunday. I was also going to order fried rice but it wasn't offered for brunch. Overall despite the priciness of the menu, we still enjoyed our food and the service. I obviously knew what I was getting myself into by visiting this place, and can definitely see myself returning in the future.
