We stopped here on our way to fossil rim after hearing about it on College Game Day. Once we figured out that it's in Cresson and not Granbury we found some of the best BBQ around DFW! After reading the other reviews, I had the sliced brisket and it did not disappoint! It was melt in your mouth tender and the taste was amazing. The owner have me samples of the sausage and ribs on the side and they were equally awesome. My daughter had "Trash" which is brisket nachos. They were very kind and made a child sized portion for her with cheese & brisket only. She loved it and every bite! This will definitely be a stop for now on whenever we are down this way. We have to come back at some point for the breakfast tacos and dessert! Don't let the location inside a Texaco fool you, this is one of the best places you'll eat around here! Fantastic food. Was a bit nervous since when I first saw it I thought "oh great gas station bbq, I guess thats what qualifies as four point five stars in Cresson, tx" (yes I know I'm a jerk) but it absolutely earns it. About 3 weeks ago my son & I travelled to Cresson to hit BBQ on the Brazos! As we have been to many of the top BBQ spots in the state such as Franklin's, Snow's, Cattleack's & Truth which were all in the Texas Monthly's Top Ten, we weren't expecting too much from BBQ out of a gas station! I am very pleased to say that the BBQ was awesome & the sides delicious. If you have read many of my BBQ posts, you will know that I am very much a beef BBQ guy & BBQ on the Brazos' beef brisket was really, really good!! Strong peppery bark & the marbleized fat throughout the brisket was perfect. Many of these BBQ joints are incredible... but I won't be going back. I'm not going to stand in line at Franklin's for 4.5 hrs again. I'm not going to wake up at 6:00AM and stand in line for several hours for a BBQ brunch at Snow's again. I will however frequent this little joint in Cresson which is not too far from the house! Very, very good barbecue!! read more

Easily in my top 3 favorites to grab BBQ for lunch. I stop here by myself often, but I've ordered food for our office a couple of times and jaws dropped both times. The brisket and sausage are as good as it gets. I ordered the coleslaw and potato salad which both look less traditional, but I would rate them a 10 out of 10. Try their breakfast tacos too! Best BBQ in the if your within 60 miles of Cresson, TX that I know of. There not cheap but they got it going on! They've added some Mexican flare to there daily specials and the quesadillas and brazos trash (nachos) that I've tried are outta this world!! We eat here for work once every two weeks and we've even started having them cater our breakfast on mornings we have safety meetings. Oh yeah they have gigantic breakfast burritos. Look simply put it's not a fancy place it's part of a gas station. It's outta the way. The pit masters are cocky but funny to mess with but my goodness they got some great tasting que!!!!! We've drove by this place for years. And for me being a car enthusiast, you'd figure I would've been sooner. It's right next to the Motorsport ranch down in Cresson (patio view overlooks track!). So, on to the good part. Had the brisket and sausage sandwich....holy moly, I wanted so slap my own mama it was so damn good!!! Bread was a jalapeño sourdough and toasted slightly, brisket was juicy and full of flavor, and the jalapeño sausage was the icing on the cake. We'll be by tomorrow morning for breakfast tacos!!! Just experienced the best BBQ brisket I think in my life I'm 55 and have traveled through out the USA and my passion is to try as many places as possible searching out the best off the food network sites and you have it hands down!!! I'm not typically a turkey meat eater because it hardly counts as meat, but this smoked turkey hit the spot. It was a recommendation of theirs and I was pleasantly surprised. They have a good variation for sides. I got green beans and fried okra; The fried okra was crunchy with a flavorful coating and they give you a lot of it. Some of the best ribs I have ever eaten. Brisket and sides were great too. They defiantly have the bbq part down. The staff is also great. Pretty good atmosphere (for a gas station) with cool race track views. This is one of three gas stations I've been to with awesome food (the others were in Gallatin Gateway MT, and Mono Lake CA). I will be a frequent guest of this establishment whenever I am in the area. read more

Brisket was solid at the point, but the flat was a little underdone and dry. It was also cut too thick which exaggerates the dryness. There was also a completely unnecessary finishing rub (maybe paprika) on the brisket that instead of adding to the flavor took away from what was already a decent bark. Turkey was moist and nicely cut but also had a finishing rub (maybe the same rub?). Rib was a little tight, but tasted good. Probably needed another half hour or so. Sausage was much more authentic Central TX style than what I normally find in North Texas. There was a good texture (not too mealy but not too tight) and really nice flavor. It was overcooked just a touch though, so it was tightening up. Now for the downside. I had the slaw and the potato salad as sides. The potato salad tasted like standard picnic salad, decent tartness and overall OK. The problem is that it was fully mashed. I have never had mashed potato salad unless it came in a grocery store container and even then there are some chunks. Now for the slaw. Cilantro slaw? OMG, was it nasty! It looked like someone dumped pesto into cabbage, and tasted like ass. read more

My qualifications: I have been a BBQ connoisseur all my life. I've eaten it at the best of the best across Texas. I make it myself. I can tell you what spices are in the rub, how they cooked the meat, and the wood they used for smoke. I know my BBQ. Also - I really haven't met too much BBQ I don't like. It's kinda like sex - even the bad stuff is still pretty good. Now for my review: Tough, dry BBQ (almost inedible) in a very small establishment with NO beer or BYOB options. (It's Texas ya'll..... beer and BBQ is kinda a thang...) Pros: - Second floor patio overlooks the MotorSport Ranch race track so you can watch cars zip around the race track. We didn't actually see any cars racing on a beautiful Saturday at noon (weird) but cool nonetheless. Take a drive through the pit row to see some cool cars. - The bark color was a deep mahogany. - Staff was surly - some might log this as a Con but many epic BBQ establishments have a "take it or leave it" attitude towards customers.... Mostly because they know their product demands respect... which is not the case at this place. - The iced tea. Cons: - The brisket was tough and dry and I had to work aggressively with the plastic knife to cut the point part of the meat. - The bark had a sugary after taste (nothing wrong per se) reminiscent of molasses but not sticky but they dusted it with some kind of spice (a red flag that something was amiss) that contained salt and cayenne. It didn't cover up the... - The brisket had a strange "roast beef" taste that usually results in cooking meat too long or a strange reaction between the meat and injections. - The smoke ring was about 1/8" (a good thing) but again, the smoke and brisket taste were no where to be found. - The ribs needed to be cooked for about 1.5 - 2 hours longer. The meat was still firm and did not pull away from the bone easily. We're talking way past "snap"... it was tough. Same comment for the rib bark as for the brisket... dusted with something to make up for a lack of taste. Very little smoke ring on the ribs. - The pulled pork.... Well let's just say cardboard has a higher moisture content. Not really sure of the taste as I had to chew it with iced tea in my mouth. - The beans tasted straight out of a can of Ranch Style... which is interesting given BBQ on the Brazos' accolades for putting so much attention in to their sides. - The potato salad was so creamy my grandmother could eat it without putting her teeth in. Maybe some people like that - but I prefer a few chunks of potato in there to remind me of its source. - BBQ sauce - none provided. Would have been nice to put taste and moisture in the BBQ. Final verdict: If you pass by keep on truckin... there's a few BBQ chains in Benbrook, a DQ somewhere nearby, or quite honestly.... McDonalds would have been better than this place. read more

Yet another stop on the #txbbqpassport. BBQ in a Gas station? yep and it is pretty good stuff. I had the Sliced beef and turkey with Mac & cheese and beans. The beef was tender and not too much fat and the turkey was moist and had good flavor. The sides were good next time I'll have to try something different and maybe some desert. If you love BBQ you've got to try this place. My husband and I read about it in the Star-Telegram as being one of the best in Fort Worth so we thought we'd try it. We went for lunch on Friday afternoon. The people are very nice and provide excellent customer service. We asked what was best and were told the ribs and brisket so we wanted to try them both. We also ordered the smoked corn which was delicious. My husband had the mashed potatoes and I had the mac and cheese. I thought the mac and cheese was better but the mashed potatoes were delicious as well. They also sell beer. We will definitely be back! read more

I have read most of the reviews for this BBQ place and it appears to me that there are a lot of people that have never had really good BBQ. I went there yesterday to get BBQ as I have heard how good the BBQ was - what a joke. Not only is it not good (too much black pepper on the brisket - you can smell it) it is pricy. The person taking my order was very rude to me and appeared annoyed that I asked for the ribs and brisket to be divided into 1/2 pound packages (I was getting the order to go). The other lady behind the counter gave a sample which was heavy with pepper and was more fat and gristle than meat. I chose not to eat the sample. I got two sides, potato salad and cole slaw for $6.50 per pint. The potato salad, as others have commented, was mashed potatoes not normal potato salad, and the cole slaw was the worst I have ever had I could not eat it - also several others have mentioned in their review as bad - Not only was it gross, but $6.50 for a pint container that was barely half full. When the cashier told me how much my purchase was ($66.60) I almost fainted. This purchase was just to feed three people. I will not go to this place again as I could not eat the brisket as it had too much pepper on it, the ribs I just tasted, and the sides were CRAP. This was a very expensive experience that I won't do again. There are a lot better BBQ places in Stephenville, Granbury (Springcreek), Weatherford, Arlington, DFW (Soulman) just to name a few. These people that think this is good need to get out more!!!!! read more

A small place but packed with flavor! I, for one am tired of the chain barbecue places, it seems like they all taste alike. The beef here is tender and the sauce is sweet. The potato salad and cold slaw are Ho-hum, but the corn bread salad is great. I was too full to try the desserts, but that gives me a chance to go back. read more

Well worth the drive from anywhere. Without a doubt the best in the area. The ribs are as good as it gets. The brisket always has that great bark. The bbq sauce is terrific, however I am hesitant to put anything on BBQ cooked this perfectly. I have eaten here a number of times, but couldn't get past those amazing ribs and brisket, till the day they ran out early. We ended up with a brisket burger and the smoked turkey. Super fabulous !! Loved the Texas toothpicks! I had the brisket burger and I don't even like hamburgers. Amazing. My husband had a sliced brisket sandwich loved it and then our two children they shared a taco plate. Perfect view of the fancy race cars racing from the top deck.
