This is the 2nd time (several months apart) my husband and I have eaten at here and both times were excellent. The service was excellent, the atmosphere is friendly, the food was wonderful. Our part had the seafood platter, both grilled and fried Catfish and the Country Fried Steak. The fixings for the potatoes were plentiful, the okra was good and the fries & onion rings were tasty. The rolls and cornbred were a wonderful start and helped the tummies stop rumbling. We aren't local so our visits are sporadic; that said, it will be added to our lists of places to eat in future when we pass thru. Well 1st restaurant over looks a lake. We started with an order of chicken fried bacon!!!! Crispy easily eaten dipped if country white gravy and they are not shy with portion!! It's a got to try app. My wife had a beef brisket Baked potato and it was hot and fresh with all the trimmings. I tried the fried catfish, with coleslaw and fresh cut French fries. It was light and crispy. Some of the best I have had. Service was great and was there when we needed things. If in the area I would definitely recommend this establishment. The service here was amazing right from the start. Everyone was kind, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. We started with drinks and appetizers, and those were definitely the highlight. I ordered a ranch with strawberries added, and it was surprisingly so good. The onion rings were also very tasty, especially with the ranch. That part of the meal felt like a win. Unfortunately, the main course didn't quite live up to the start. My steak was a bit chewy and tough. I took a few bites but ended up pushing it aside. In hindsight, I probably should have gone with the chicken fried steak instead. My husband also didn't finish his . Overall, it started off strong with great service, drinks, and appetizers, but went a bit downhill with the entrees. The last two visits have not been good. Two weeks ago my wife and I went in at 2:30, with only three couples in the restaurant. I had to get the manager after waiting 20 minutes to get service, while wait staff looked at us, but ignored us. Yesterday, we again went about 2:30 when the restaurant was almost empty. When our entrees arrived, they were not close to what we ordered and the food was average at best. Three strikes and you'll be out. Get your act together! Unfortunately, there have been times our food (which we order the same thing most of the time) comes out not as good as before. Service depends on the server. I wish there was a way to have Apple Maps remind you "DON'T EAT HERE". I vaguely remember posting a negative review about this restaurant before, but even if it's this only one time, I will not return. Ordered a filet MR, and it came out 1/3 MW. I hate sending entrees back, but I did this time. 10 minutes later it came back, this time 1/4 was still MW. We wanted BBQ while in Grandbury. My husband had a brisket plate and I had brisket nachos. The brisket had so much fat, didnt have any flavor at all. They advertise 14 hour slow smoked brisket, worst meat we've ever had! Tough and chewy. Restaurant was nice and had docks so you could boat on over, too bad the food doesn't live up to the vibe! Not good...just not good. The place is called Mesquite Pit. A name like that gets your attention in Texas. But sadly, BBQ is not their strong suit. It's a fairly nice place, though the seats are extremely hard and they took out the comfy booths, I don't know why!! We started with the Cowboy Queso with brisket. It's great! The smoke flavor of the brisket was really great, however, the queso part wasn't warm enough so it was gloopy. Good flavor, but gloopy, and I'm just not a fan of sending food back to the kitchen and risk...well let's just leave it there. Then came the main course. When I ordered my 2 meat combo plate, brisket and ribs with potato salad and cowboy beans, I very clearly stated, I want the moist, fatty end, not the drier thin end. Hubby ordered the very same meal. When our plates arrived, we both had brisket from the dry, thin end. And guess what??? IT WAS DRY! That's why I ALWAYS order my brisket cut from the moist end. The cowboy beans didn't do anything for me and the potato salad was sweet tasting and seemed to be so stirred or whipped that the texture was like it was made from hungry black potato flakes. Maybe this is marvelous to some, but it left me just wishing I could Door Dash Jack Jordan's brisket, ribs and amazing potato salad from Jack Jordan's BBQ in Odessa Texas!!!! Sorry Mesquite Pit, this girl knows great BBQ and this missed the mark by a mile! Then...to top it all off, just a few minutes after we received our food, I ordered a chicken quesadilla to take home to our daughter who wasn't feeling great and was told sorry...kitchen is closed. Restaurant is not closed, but kitchen is???? Because why? Why does the kitchen knock off early, before closing time? It's a mystery to me. The view over the lake is stunning from the back porch of this restaurant & from the tables towards the back of the restaurant. I came here with my mom & dad along with my three kids while visiting Granbury. We ordered 2 meat salads, a cheeseburger and fries, the chopped brisket with mashed potatoes and fries, the chicken tenders, green beans and fries and the bison burger (wrapped in lettuce) with a side salad. Our meals as a whole were quite tasty. The only disappointing parts were that I felt both burgers were a bit overcooked (a little dry) and the side salad that came as a side was very small (especially considering there was an additional $1.99 up charge to substitute it as a side). I stopped in for lunch alone today . The food was good and service was great but just I felt odd having been seated in an empty dining room while everyone else was in the main dining room. I ate quickly and skipped dessert, I left as soon as I could. I'll never return. Granbury has mostly strangest restaurants just weird. I can't recommend this place the food isn't that good I never got a response from MP. Its Mgmt doesn't care about its customers that complain. The Pearl Street Station is the only place that is consistent with Food and Service. If I could rate it less than one star I would read more

I've been here several times in the past and have always had an excellent time. Unfortunately, tonight was a different story. I am highly allergic to fresh tomatoes. I told the waitress and 30 minutes later there were 2 red tomatoes right on top. I sent it back. 20 minutes later she brings me a salad with no tomatoes. I started to stir my salad to eat, BUT there were drips of what appeared to be dressing in it. The server returned with sweet tea for my husband. Turns out she brought him unsweet tea. It took a long time to get a sweet tea. I understand these are minor things to most folks excluding the tomato allergy. But it is so irritating that everything took so long to correct. Salad was bagged sald mix- ya know the one with the dried carrots - 2 cherry tomatoes and 1 slice of cucumber. Bake potato was plain, on plate was a bowl of shredded powdery cheese, bacon bits and a frozen mixture i can only hope was butter and sour cream. Had to send steak back because it was Super blue rare. Got it back- strong medium. No rare left, very tough and ABSOLUTELY NO FLAVOR. No seasoning. I never want servers to think its their fault. Service was good, not perfect but good. Told server about all issues when I saw her again. Told her I would like speak to a manager if they wanted to speak to me however as of this posting- that hasn't happened. Pics are of half of my steak that I couldn't/wouldn't finish because it was tough. Update-- manager did come, told me the "texas toothpicks " were frozen they just fry them up. Absolutely the RUDEST staff we have ever encountered. We had reservations made a week in advance. 11 of us arrived for a family reunion dinner. We arrived and were told that table was not ready. We went into the bar where there was only one couple. We were told we could NOT push two tables together NOR would they serve us any drinks unless we came to the bar one at a time. We walked out after snippy manager told us that was their policy? Big eaters and big drinkers. Congrats staff.....how many hundreds did you cost your employer. The Mesquite Pit is great! Actually, I was quite surprised by this as I was not expecting to like it at all. We have been here three times now. Each time the food, the service and the atmosphere (you can't beat siting on the patio by the lake!) have been wonderful. I get the "Pit" salad. It is absolutely huge with tons of chicken on it (sorry no pics this time). My dining companion has gotten the ribs and burgers and has been pleased with all of his meals. This past time we were really hungry so we got the fried green tomatoes. They were pretty good. I don't think they were made fresh, but they were still good. Our waiter, Justin, did a perfect job of waiting on us. He checked on us frequently, but not too frequently and made sure we have everything that we needed. I really can't understand these low ratings for Mesquite Pit. Honestly, it's what we call the " Granbury effect." I really think people here are just overly critical of restaurants. We just tried it again yesterday and I opted to try the BBQ Brisket again. PASS. I like it lean . I don't mind some fat as long as it isn't just chewy. Not the case. Not much taste and chewy. This place should take bbq out of the name. Worst bbq I have ever had. The brisket was dry and flavorless. It actually comes served with bbq sauce on the meat, something I have never encountered on sliced brisket. I sent mine back, because I don't like sauce. When it was returned to me, the portion was half the size and they didn't even put the onions and pickles back. It was fine though because again it was terrible so I wouldn't have eaten it anyway. Cowboy beans had a great flavor, but hard from being undercooked. The only good thing we ate was the armadillo eggs. The restaurant has a nice view of the lake and the service is good.
