This is a an "ok"restaurant. Nothing spectacular but a solid place. They don't do fancy, but they do everything from scratch. The from scratch Clam Chowder was fantastic. I had a Reuben sandwich. It was good but a bit lean on the corned beef and heavy on the thousand island dressing. Also, a bit light on sauerkraut. The appetizer pretzel is huge but it tastes like bread not a pretzel. The wraps are big and filled well. The pickles were good, too. I skipped eating the bagged chips because when I go to a restaurant, I don't want bagged chips. I can get those on my own at a store, Subway, etc. This isn't fast food so the chips were a disappointment. Maybe a fresh kate side salad or homemade potato salad would've been a nice option. The salads looked great. Lots of older people seem to dine here so maybe that's why the menu was so ordinary. That's the problem in the Jackson area. No good, unique, creative places to eat. At least the service was good and the food was from scratch and fresh. Like I said, a solid restaurant for a decent meal. read more

Always a great stop regardless of the day. It has a great atmosphere whether you are inside or out on the patio. The beach bar tomato soup is one of my favorites. You can't pass up the lunch deal for 2 items for 8.99. You have sandwiches, soup, and salad to choose from. It is not only a great deal but also filling. 4 stars for the nostalgia of this place...3 stars for the food. My husband remembers coming here every Friday night growing up on the lake and of course we have to take our daughter here when we come to visit. The ambiance is great too. It's directly across from the lake and live music plays on Wednesday's and sundays. I had to lift my feet up while eating so the hired help could clean the floor and chairs around me. They wanted badly to be out of there, one hour before closing (at 10 pm), I guess that I was obstructing to their party plans (Friday night at 9 pm). I talked to the manager about this, and got no satisfaction. I can assure you I won't go back again. Too many other good local choices. Owner should wake up, but probably won't. The good - food tasted great, for what we had. Questionable - Both my wife and I got a bowl of the tomato soup, but she asked for hers in a to go container. It was roughly 1/2 the size of mine for the same price. Bad - They forgot to bring out my daughter's Mac n cheese with the rest of the food so it came out by the time we were nearly done eating. They also kept filling up my boys chocolate milk but didn't say it wasn't a free refill. Everyone raves about this place, but it isn't *that* good. Really great place if you want to grab some good food for a great price. The atmosphere is casual and right across from the lake. The tomato soup is the best I have ever tried. My husband and I love it and always order it. My husband tried the Reuben and said it was better than the one he had in chicago. I tried the submarine hoagie and it was so good! Food is good but the service sucks. I orders take out tonight at 7:51pm and was told 40 minutes. I arrived to pick up my order at 8:30 and all but my beach bread was ready. While staying in the area over July 4 weekend, My wife and I decided to try this place. IT WAS JAM PACKED!!! They have plenty of parking, but we had to search for a spot and walk a long way to get in. However, we were seated immediately in this immense building. Our service was fine....nothing amazing, but adequate. The food was good. I had some queso & chips and it was REALLY good. My wife chose a Tuna Croissant with Tomato Soup and it was quite good. My happy place! Summer weekends are spent at Clarke Lake and I don't ever miss a chance to eat the french dip sandwich (aka skinny dip.) My boyfriend LOVES their Hobbie Sandwich. Their pizza is great too and you can't beat the atmosphere. The staff is all so friendly, the kiddos love the games. The LITs will knock you on your tail in the good way. read more

Great food. Cold beers. Have always loved going to the bar. I will go again! However I have to say the wait staff is not as friendly as they used to be. It was Memorial Day and who really wanted to work I called to see if they were open due to the holiday and the guy who answered was rude. The hostess was nice. But the take out window employee was short and not even smiling. The bartenders were okay but were very rushed with us. I would say customer service needs a moral booster. Decided to take my wife out because we had a baby sitter. She wanted somewhere with a patio. Came here. We wanted to site on the patio they told us we had to do a take out, they charged us $3 takeout fee. Wasn't happy, sat on the patio they wouldn't bring the food to us so I had to go get. Then they didn't get my daughter her drink and chips, then she wanted to argue with me about giving my daughter her chips, then had to go to the bar to get her drink. Finally sat down to eat and was impress with the food. Wasn't impressed at all. Don't know if we will go back. read more

Good clam chowder. We ordered bread and the mushroom caps. They arrived fast and hot. Good place to stop by if you need to inhale some fat. This might be the only palatable restaurant in town. Family friendly spot right across from Clark Lake. When I visit my family, we often go here because the food is pretty decent and the atmosphere is relaxed. The pizza is really good and so are the wraps. The drinks are pretty cheap and the pours are good! Large outside patio area, but the problem is they only serve to a few high top tables. If you don't sit at those then you have to order carry out if you want to eat outside and enjoy the weather. If they served food on the whole patio then I would always come here for the outdoor seating. read more

There's a tree inside! Actually, it's a tree trunk. The original tree died a long time ago when lightning hit it. This place has been here since the 20's and I see why. How charming! What a difference two years makes. We've been coming to The Beach Bar since the '60's. For years the pizza was great, but the beer was generally luke-warm. They upgraded their reefers and for several years everything was great. Piping hot pizza and cold beers. However, the last two visits have been disappointing. The beer is still cold, but the pizza's are now coming out luke-warm. I told the waitress about the less than hot pizza after our meal and was advised I should have mentioned it earlier. Large home made soup selection and they are all very good. I've tried the pizza several times and I'm not a fan. Doughy and the sauce is unimpressive. The price / value equation here is not good. Pizza, sandwiches and soup on the menu; 2 domestic draft beers soup and a sandwich each and the bill for a couple with an 18% tip is easily $60. Tourist trap in my opinion. The beer was served too warm and flat which was quite disappointing. The kegs may have been changed recently so that may be a fluke. Additionally the buffalo chicken wrap was more akin to Teriyaki, which I find a bit baffling considering I was told they used Frank's hot sauce by the waitress. There was no spice or burn to it, just mostly salt. So in the end I didn't bother finishing the meal. Overall I think the Beach Bar has a pretty overblown reputation, and I doubt I'll be going back again. read more

As most people will tell you, the tomato soup is a must! I have never liked tomato based anything, however I love their soup! They also make some pretty good pizza as well. The staff is great and super friendly and I've never left dissatisfied. Location right across from Clark Lake makes it beautiful to eat outside in the warmer weather. Only complaint I could ever think of is sometimes it's a little over crowded depending on the day, which must mean they're doing something right. read more

Came on a beautiful 75 degree evening to set on the deck and overlook the water. The deck was only open if you wanted to order from the takeout counter and take your food out yourself. No servers. On a beautiful summer evening. Ridiculous. This was my first trip and will be my last which is sad because I heard so many great things about how nice the view was. Our view was of an old fireplace covered in dusty fake ivy. Definitely won't be back as the food was average at best. read more
