My girlfriend and I did the PADI Open Water Diver certification course. We had zero experience prior but the class is well run with instructors who have an incredible passion for diving. This is a review of their PADI SCUBA certification course and my experience dealing with this dive shop. Scheduling the class was easy. They accommodated my schedule and made changes when I needed. I had my own gear and I appreciate that they didn't try to sell me on a bunch of unneeded gear. The instructor, Greg was very knowledgeable and professional. I could tell that he is experienced and enjoys what he does. There were a few in the class that were obviously outside their comfort zones and, I could tell that was making them irritable. Greg did a great job encouraging them as much as possible. There was one woman in the class that just couldn't seem to relax under water and ended up making an excuse to quit. Diving isn't for everyone but if you can, you should definitely try it. The gear we used was more than adequate and so were the facilities. The shop has been recently renovated and the pool area is nice as well. I've bought several pieces of dive gear since completing my certification. If they don't have what you need, they'll order it for you. read more

I walked into this place ready to sign up for a class, I asked a question and right off the bat, the guy with glasses at the front desk gave me attitude. He had his hands crossed over his chest and simply acted rude. First off if a customer walks in eager to ask questions. You should make that customer feel as if they're wanted. Second when I have a certified instructor buddy next to me that would have vouched for my equipment to be a certified scuba snorkel gear, you shouldn't state "Well I don't care where you get it from, if I don't approve then your not going to use it here". You should have a better approach to answer it in a different manner. This business should have more etiquette manners to customers rather than be assholes. They lost 5 customers in that one time frame, due to myself and 4 other military buddies ready to start learning. I don't recommend this place, first impressions are a huge ordeal in my eyes. If you do want to go to Beach Cities Scuba go to the other place that's further down the freeway in Huntington Beach, they have way better customer service. read more

In the store and on the water all the instructors are helpful and patient. They explain the differences in different models of gear and make suggestions based on what you need or want not what is the most expensive. Jim and Clark in the cypress store both took the time to explain things and ever look up tech specs for me what I asked about certain types of gear. On the water and in class they take extra time if you don't get something or even if you have more questions. I haven't had a bad instructor yet. I was so impressed with the staff and service after my open water cert I came back to beach cities scuba for the master scuba challenge even though i found some of the courses a little cheaper somewhere else the service was that great. They offer discounts and other incentives I would recommend them to anyone and have with all my friends. I have completed my open water cert and am currently almost done with my advanced course next is rescue diver then master diver looking forward to more good times with beach cities scuba so far i have been in the classroom/pool or off the boat/shore with Chance, Jim, Kris, Rob, Lisa, David, and Chob. All the instructors have been awesome and took extra time to answer my questions or help me work on personal skills in the water, thanks guys looking forward to more good times. read more

I tried getting an open water scuba certificate through Groupon. The experience was pretty cool and everyone pretty much did their job. So nothing was missing about this program nor the place...they explained everything that would needed to be covered and what would take place. The only thing that irked me was that they didn't mention from the beginning that there would be a boat dive that carries an additional cost of a little over $100 per day as part of completing the program. You need to do 4 separate open water dives to complete the course and you can most likely complete 2 in a day. I'll admit, it's optional and you can do a shore dive but everyone urges you that it's not the way to go. I wish they would have told us before even purchasing the course certificate - I don't know why they didn't. They mentioned the personal gear you would need and everything else that would be covered. Just not this part. You can easily dish out an extra $250 to cover 2 boat dives on top of what you pay. I would've paid it but it would've been nice if someone told me before my purchase, not the first day of class. Another thing is, they do need to be more organized. Information and plans are shot out at random and it's difficult to get a confirmation because you don't know who is in charge of what and on what day. If you do want to get things done, it does take a little pro-active behavior on your part. Otherwise, the atmosphere is fun, the experience is one of a kind and the instructors are very patient, very knowledgeable and you walk away knowing a lot about the sport. The people there are amazing! I just think the company needs to communicate with their instructors better. I believe if the instructors are provided adequate material and communication, this place would be stellar :) read more

I'll be honest, I was not excited about becoming a scuba diver. My fiancé is a big diver and part of our honeymoon will be spent diving, so I needed to get certified. Every time I was in this store Jed was who helped me, and he was awesome. He was also my pool instructor and when I needed to switch to personal lessons (I was having a hard time in the big group, a personal flaw, not theirs), he was my one on one instructor. He did an amazing job of teaching me everything I needed to know, taking extra time to help me, and keeping me calm (I get upset when I'm not good at something the first time I try it). Jed said he wanted to get me to the point where I'm excited to go diving, and he definitely did. The ocean dives here were cool, but I can't wait for clear water on my honeymoon! read more

I Took my first pool Dive this past weekend and it was some thing to get used to and the instructors are very good to notice. My instructors were Jennifer Miller and Mark, they were awesome!!! super cool guys and they know their stuff.. plus if you have a hard time figuring things out they up must attention is given to you so you are comfortable and confident you get it right. The do give you the focus and attention you need from minute one. I have to tell you I'm a very analytic person and i pay attention to detail and well i miss a few things here and there like walking away from a standing air tank.. i felt like i let them down because i missed that. Sorry guys i know my drill CO wont be happy if i did that on his watch but this is what I'mm so happy about, it was noticed right away when it happen by mark which made me feel a lot more secured i had the right team teaching me the skills i need to be a good and safe diver. i cant say THANK YOU enough to you guys.. i will spread the word to my good friends that can appreciate something you have to really experience a new world of underwater life. I dropped off my reg setup for service at the Cypress store and tank for visual and fill. I got a written estimate for $105 for the service When I went to pick up the price was $210 just for the sevice Yes that's double the estimate. I'm a contractor. If I gave an estimate then did the work without contacting my customer about the change and charged them double, I wouldn't have license long. The same guy was there both times. The guy with glasses (Weekends). On top of that when I asked about my tank he ask me if that was mine over in the corner. They didn't know who it belonged to, so nothing was done to that. When I complained about the cost versus the estimate he told me "well, I'm not a technician". Then what are you writing estimates for? I didn't just jump in the water yesterday, $210 is crazy high. So being pissed off I just paid the bill and took my stuff and on the way out he gave me a smart ass "Have a nice day" He should consider himself lucky! Too bad I like the Laguna store.
