Dough-Nuts! Ol fashioned, divey local joint. Real old fashioned cake doughnuts, and the lighter kind too if you prefer! If you've only experienced corporate crap chain store doughnuts, which leave that strange grainy oil slick in your mouth (Dunkin) you are in for a surprise. It is possible to eat a sugar bomb treat like this and not feel like you ate a chemical oil spill. My favorite is Sour Cream cake doughnut. Heavy creamy doughy with a crisp surface. Sugar glazed crusty goodness. Don't leave yourself alone with a box of these. Coffee: not great, just passable to accompany the pastry. Divey feel (warning the bathroom is ugly) but that only adds to the charm. Handwritten signage. Lovely staff all the time! Great service. Breakfast sandwiches and Cohens bagels are served as well. My wife found this (courtesy of Yelp) when we needed a donut in CT. It was 5 min till closing, so we had low expectations. We grabbed a cin/sugar, sour cream, and chocolate cake. The cin/sug I imagine would have been phenomenal when fresh - and since we came closing, I won't hold that against the shop. It was still pretty good as it was. The other two were really great. The line was out the door yesterday. Lots of people leaving with boxes and bags of their delicious donuts. They have quite a selection of donuts. Flavors include: maple glazed, maple bacon glazed, strawberry frosted, sour cream, Boston creme, cinnamon, cherry, and so many more. They also have some pastries, muffins, and bagels available from Cohen's. You can also get great egg sandwiches and wraps. I got a sandwich yesterday and a banana hazelnut iced coffee. The coffees are chilled with frozen coffee cubes too, so you don't really lose or dilute that yummy flavor. I love the attention to detail! Beach Donuts has the best donuts!!! So fresh and delicious. My favorite is the powdered bavarian cream donut. It's super light and fluffy with the perfect amount of cream filling! Also love their banana hazelnut coffee - super tasty! They also are known for their coffee ice cubes which are the perfect way to keep your iced coffee cold and not watered down. (Will definitely be stealing this idea!). Always look forward to my trips down to Westbrook to stop in and get my Beach Donut fix. :) read more

Like a good sweet bread, but a bit more substance and a good hint of yeasty freshness. Coffee was good but they don't have iced tea. Odd because they have iced coffee and they have tea. Excellent first trip to Beach Donut. I just moved to town and all my local friends raved about this place. I stopped in early (6:30) on my way into work. I was pleased to see people leaving and entering the shop. It was crowded enough to make you feel that this was a good find, but not so crowded that you didn't want to wait in line. Many different donuts were out on display along with assorted pastries and bagels. I believe I heard the man behind the counter tell the customer in front of me that he gets a free donut with his coffee purchase. I will have to look into this further... Customer service was excellent and I was happy to see that they accept cards and cash. I will definitely be back to try their bagels and breakfast sandwiches. Update: 7/5/17 I recently popped in again to buy two donuts and discovered they have a minimum on credit cards. I believe it was five dollars? Maybe six? This is a 'must do' if you're in the area. Beach Donuts are an institution. Been coming here since it was in the small shop next door. Now it's expanded with seating and it's the place to fill a box. After hearing high praise for Beach Donuts, we knew we had to stop by. We went mid-afternoon but supposedly it's even better fresh in the early morning. I split one sour cream and blueberry doughnut. I can see how it's addicting and you can't just have one. The crunchy exterior and moist interior is absolute perfection. I would highly recommend stopping by and trying a doughnut. This is by far the best donut shop by the shoreline. If you're in the area doing outlet shopping or at the beach you have to come and try their airy amazing donuts. Seriously I'm not a donut lover but I crave their sour cream and blueberry donuts. I was hesitant to try their sour cream donut at first, because I'm just not a sour cream fan. However I'm so glad I listened to the reviews because they are AMAZING!!! They also have yummy breakfast sandwiches as well and there's usually a long line but worth the wait. Just to clear up one thing they are OPEN UNTIL 2PM NOT 5PM like Yelp states!! I just went there at 2:45 and it was closed, the girl cleaning up said they close at 2pm everyday!! We were visiting from out of town and my niece brought home a box of these donuts, easily the best donuts we've ever had, particularly their cake donuts. We stopped on our way out of town and the line was out the door, however, it moved quickly...5 minute wait max. A lot of reviews are negative about the dinginess and decor, I could care less about this sort of thing. We met the owner and he was super friendly, plenty of staff to help move the line along. We used to love Beach Donuts. We came here at least twice a week for years. They apparently have traded hands and now have new owners. I'm not sure if they're trying to get in the swing of things or what is going on, but after giving them multiple chances we will not be back. Our orders are constantly messed up, prices have doubled within 3 months, and it is absolutely disgusting inside. Their tables and floors are sticky, and last time we went, there were flies all over the pastries. Their Kitchen looks like it has not been cleaned in months! It's very disheartening as we have enjoyed them for years. Hopefully they can get it together soon for the sake of other customers. read more

We have been enthusiastic supporters of Beach Donut for the six years we have lived here. Whenever we have company, or are visiting family, we bring a couple of dozen donuts from there--everyone raves about them! My husband would bring in a dozen to work every few weeks, as well. When the new ownership took over we were concerned, but the donuts seemed to remain on par. For a while. Now they are so absurdly thin, with a hole that's practically big enough to put a fist through (ok, a small fist), that we'd be embarrassed to gift them to anyone. It's insulting that this is what the owners are selling as a "donut"... it's more like a Holenut. Plus the variety has waned over time. A once stellar beach "landmark" has been turned into a shoddy ripoff. SO DISAPPOINTING! They took a pot of gold and traded it in for tin nickels. We no longer go there. Two stars rather than one, because the flavor is still good. read more

Ugghh I really don't want to take off two stars but I kinda feel like I have to. First off the food is really good, above average. The donuts are tasty and the breakfast sandwiches are great. Service is a little slow, seems a bit understaffed each time I go. But my biggest complaint is how this place looks like from the inside. I wouldn't normally complain, I know redecorating isn't cheap but this place is always busy I have a hard time believing they can't spend a couple grand buying new tables and chairs and painting. The place is so dingy and the tables and chairs look like they went to the local dump and got them. The paint is cracked and yellowed and the 'decorations' are definitely from goodwill or just items people left behind there. I just think that most people who don't know how great the food is will hightail it out of there after they walk in. Come on guys....seriously...take some pride in yourselves and the food and clean this place up. read more

There's something you should know about me...I love donuts. Everyone at work hates my guts because I bring in boxes of them and make them all fat. Obviously I know what's up when it comes to these breakfast treats. Beach Doughnuts are delicious. Seriously delectable. They are different textures and densities, unlike that Dunkin BS, which are basically all the same. This place is nothing fancy on the inside but who needs fancy? They also sell breakfast sandwiches and freeze coffee into ice cubes so that your iced coffee doesn't get watered down. Can't go wrong. read more

Stopped in last Saturday as we took the back roads home (a break from the highway) from NYC. It was later in the day so they didn't have a lot of doughnuts left but it looked like they had quite a selection. We got an iced banana flavored coffee and an egg and cheese on a cheddar bagel. The coffee was okay. I think it's one of those flavors that just doesn't taste as good as it sounds. The sandwich was great. Loved the cheese and one perfectly. Prices were good. I felt one cashier was a bit rude to an elderly couple who remarked on the lack of doughnut selection, otherwise, it would have likely been five stars. read more

Ah, Beach Donut Shop. Its delicious outpourings of donuts, muffins, and miscellaneous baked goodness have been the constant companions of my coffee cup as long as I've been drinking coffee (read: since age 5). They recently expanded into the shop next door, so I figure there's no better time to Yelp my appreciation of this awesome seaside donut goldmine! And trust me, I have tried almost every single thing they make here. They have a large selection of donuts, with many varieties available in both cake or raised form. The raised cinnamon sugar rings are my all-time favorite, and define making something simple VERY well. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, with a PERFECT even coating of cinnamon sugar, they're heaven in fried ring form. The sour cream donuts are another family favorite: they're dense, cake donuts with a thick, addictingly crunchy glaze exterior (if they tell you they're hot out of the oven, you are hereby ordered to buy one IMMEDIATELY). This is also one of the only places that you can get a cinnamon sugar jelly donut, for anyone who's ever taken a giant bite of a jelly donut and ended up coughing up too much powdered sugar. Boston cremes and lemon sticks (a raised crueller filled with lemon curd topped with powdered sugar) are also perennial favorites. Every donut is fresh and homemade, and you can tell by the texture and taste. They have a nice selection of non-donut items as well. Their muffins are quite nice, and their monkey bread is delicious, albeit different from other forms of monkey bread you might've tried. They also serve coffee, and with their expansion they are offering a few new beverages like smoothies and iced coffees (the ice cubes in their iced coffee are actually iced coffee cubes, so your drink doesn't get watered down as it melts!). The service is brisk and friendly. With the new expansion, there are a couple of tables in the front area by the window to chill out if you so desire. Along with Coffee An's in Westport, this is my favorite donut joint in...well, in the world probably! read more
