I paid $4,000 so I would not have to wear glasses. total scam my near vision was worse after the surgery. DONT FALL FOR THE MULTIFOCAL SCAM. I went to a post opp surgery to break up scar tissue. Which cost me another $500 while I was there there were 6 other people in the same position as myself Which was worse Vision than prior to multifical surgery. I had no appointment but they rushed me in and I was seen in minutes by the most professional and gentle doctor I have ever encountered in my 60 years as a health care professional. She explained everything in great detail, was an absolute breath of fresh air. The entire experience, from the front desk through check out was outstanding. They did not explain to me that they were going to make one eye distance vision worse, if I'd been given a contact to wear for a week like my was 8 months ago I would not have moved forward...and probably why they stopped doing that. I asked about possible complications and the doctor named a couple of minor ones and dismissed my concerns. They never told that there were no guarantees to the very expensive procedure, I had to read it in the fine print the morning of the procedure. During the holidays they were offering a special promotion of $1,000 off, and it's reasonable that would be for both eyes, but when they told me the price I said I was offered the promotion and they said that is the promotional price($1,425) the same exact price my wife paid 8 months earlier with no promotion. It's been 4 weeks since my procedure and I still have difficulty, mostly driving and even more so driving at night. I was told it would take about a week for my brain to get used to the 2 different pictures my eyes send to my brain, ones blurry one clear depending on what I'm looking. My left eye is clear up close and my right eye is clear distance. I'm right eye dominate. My advise to someone thinking about this is do the contact for a week and see if it works for you but don't believe any promo you see and read the paperwork they send home with you carefully and write and your questions and concerns read more

Worst mistake of my life. I got Lasik with Dr. Levine 3 years ago and it has changed my life for the worst in terms of ever being able to see normally again. I told Dr. Levine prior to my surgery that I had a lazy eye that turned in when I didn't have my classes or contacts in and he said "It's fine". Well it wasn't fine. My +5.00 prescription was the only thing that allowed my eyes to focus together. It took me the last 3 years and 3 different doctors to find a prescription that allows me to see "almost" normally. I can't focus for long periods of time or read for more than 30 min without getting a head ache and my vision blurring (I'm a full time college student btw). I had to buy 3 different pairs of glasses out of pocket and ended up with bifocal contacts that cost 180 dollars a box (compared to the 40 I used to pay) I had to register for vision accommodations through my college so I can have text books and assignments read to me. 10 months after the surgery I flew back to Virginia Beach to get a touch up (we're military in another state now) I paid for all the travel and Dr. Levine said the surgery was good to go to the point I bought the perscriptions for the post surgery, Then the night before the surgery they called an cancelled my appointment saying my prescription wasn't stable. Which made no sense because they literally saw me 2 days prior and approved it. I think the real reason was a hurricane was coming and they didn't want to go to work which is fine if you say that and make an effort to reschedule but they didn't. If you have a high + perscription talk to your regular doctor before going to a place like this. They don't care about you, they just want your money. It cost me much more than the initial 3000 for the surgery and will continue to cost me for the rest of my life. read more

Care more about your money than for your eyes. I received an eye exam and a contact lens prescription at their Hilltop location last week. As part of the contact lens fitting that they charge ~$60 for, you get a pair of contacts from them. One of these contacts cracked within a week (before I could order new ones). When I politely asked for a replacement, I was told that they see I never buy my contacts from them and that the ones from the fitting were just for the fitting. How rude!!! Then they let me drive home with just one contact lens. If your are interested: On their website they charge $80 for six of my lenses, so $320 for a year's supply (Air Optix Night&Day Aqua). I consistently find the same lenses online for under $160 for the year. That difference is all the really care for. read more

Getting Lasik has been life changing and I think would recommend getting it at Beach Eye Care. However, I warn you to be prepared to spend a LOT of time waiting. The procedure was quick, but for the follow up exams: I'm never taken back less than 20 minutes after my scheduled time, do a few checks with a tech, then put in a room to wait another 20+ minutes for 5 minutes with the doctor. read more

My wife and I visited 2 Beach Eye Care (Holland Rd and First Colonial Rd) locations and received horrible customer service from both locations. What happened to simply greeting a customer when they walked in with a simple hello, we will be right with you. Neither location did that. The woman who sits in the station in the rear on right side at the Holland Rd location NEVER EVEN BOTHERED TO GET UP FROM HER SEAT while we were there she just pointed where we should look. No sales or customer service person is ever too busy to greet a new customer with a hello! Secondly, what about listening to your customer? That is one of the most important part about selling! At the First Colonial location (believe her name was Leslie, (short with black hair)), refused to listen to anything we provided her regarding our insurance. I provided her with an authorization code from the insurance company and she had the nerve to tell me that I didn't have insurance. Leslie I told you we didn't have EyeMed, we have VSP, listen to me! Needless to say Beach Eye Care provided the worst customer service we ever had. Beach Eye Care owners, you need to wake up and realize that your staff is messing up the money! Between my wife and I we were prepared to put out nearly $1000 in eyeglasses but because of the service we decided to go elsewhere. Nowadays, outside of price the only thing that can separate one place from another is customer service. We all know that Beach Eye Care isn't the cheapest, so if they cost more AND have horrible service they why go there? Never again for me or anyone in my family! Updating my review from 6/2/2022 after being contacted by Beach Eye Care staff ("M"). I explained my many issues to her, including my issues with my eye care visit. She managed to solve all my billing problems while not making me feel like a total whiner. And her cohort in the glasses department ("H") solved my transition lens problem. My experiences with the owner Neatrour. He's skilled and experienced but there was an anomaly with my cataract surgery that left the eye uncomfortable and extremely sensitive to glare/ light. The doctor "has no explanation for this and has no idea what is causing it".....he told me so on two different visits with a sort of deer in the headlights, pseudo innocent look on his face. I also find him very rote in his speech and at almost always condescending. at one point even telling me that I was not experiencing pain in my eye when the simple truth is I'm the ONLY one who can tell if I'm experiencing pain. I had opted for the new technology called a "light adjustable lens" for cataract surgery. which means simply that they can use light radiation to adjust the focus after surgery. I found that whole process repeatedly invasive in a very uncomfortable fashion and would not repeat or recommend to anyone that style lens or use it when/if my other eye needs cataract surgery. so after reading his response to my google review where he said... "As for the new light adjustable lens for cataract surgery, it does reduce the chances for further treatment to the cornea (another surgery)." I will call that Startling NEW information that NEVER was offered or came up in conversation. also, when I emailed him about some drops (which I discovered on my own) that seemed like they could address my exact symptoms, suddenly he had a name for what he said previously that he knew nothing about and said this...."not all dysphotopsias can be lessened". kinda tipped his hand that he knew all along (disingenuous perhaps??) and when combined with his prior response about "reduce the chances for further treatment"..... well lets just say I'm done with his condescending, I'm smart and you're an idiot, sort of treatment. sent for my records today. already found someone with nothing but 5 stars. depending on how things turn out, Beach Eye Care may NOT have heard the end of me. the above has been my experience and is my opinion based on the facts as I lived them and I have the evidence to back up every word of it. I put that in there because he kind of chided/veiled threatened me after my google review. I'll be telling everyone I meet about my experience with this person and his company. On sept 12 I had an appointment at 12 noon. I received an e mail to confirm it. I showed up at 11:20 and was told my appointment was at 11. I showed them their e mail and they were not very concerned. On that day I handed them the filled in form to send to my Florida doctor to have his records faxed. I called 3 times to ask if they received the form. No one returned my call. I called again to make another appointment. First thing I was told was that I was a no show on sept 12! I told her that wasn't right. Made another appointment for sept 9 at 12. I called today to confirm it and was told my appointment had been on the 7th and I was a no show again. I was about to make a bad choice to get lasik with that company you hear on the radio offerenning it for $250.00. Well when they say you get what you pay for it's so true. My gut told me not to go through with it and boy was God looking out for me. The day I was to have the surgery I called and cancelled and called Beach Eye Care. From the moment I walked in to the center my nerves begin to ease. I was still a little scared after all its my eye sight however I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Jain who is very very particular. He insisted that I try wearing a contact for a couple weeks before having Lasik to see if it would be a goo fit for me. The radio place (Lasik vision institute) didn't even offer me, and charge me almost double what I paid Beach Eye Care to have just 1 that's right 1 eye done. Oh did I mention the doctors are flown in because they are outsourced so they no nothing about you or your sight other than what they read on your chart so hopefully the numbers are right. Dr. Jain took very good care of me the staff was very knowledgeable also the entire team cares about you not the money they stand to make. I thank God for leading me to Beach Eye Care. While vacationing at Virginia Beach, here is my recent experience with Beach Eye Care. Prior to going to Beach Eye Care, I had gone to urgent care and was diagnosed with a 5 mm x 8 mm corneal abrasion. Need I say how much pain I was in?! I was then referred to Beach Eye Care. I was met at the door by a lovely lady who's name I believe was Patricia. She could see how much pain I was in and described what could be done. She explained that eye numbing drops (Tetracaine I believe) and a contact could be placed to protect my eye from the intense pain I was experiencing. When I was called back, numbing drops were placed in my eye by a tech which immediately relieved the pain. I then saw Dr Lipton. After about 20 minutes, the effects of the drops started to wear off. Dr Lipton was going to send me home with antibiotics and nothing else. Per Patricia's suggestion, I asked him at that point about contact placement to help with the intense pain. He stated that he didn't really want to place a contact due to the risk of infection. Knowing that there was no way I was going to be able to tolerate the intense 10/10 pain (i'm a Registered Nurse and Hospice Nurse and I am well aware of people's pain), I insisted upon the contact placement. He was a little perturbed at this point but did agree. He said that my eye would need to be measured for the contact. Due to the eye starting to hurt again, I asked for another eyedrop to numb the eye before they measured but Dr Lipton stated that he would/could not give me another numbing drop before the procedure. At this point I could no longer keep my eye open due to pain. The tech took me to a different room and asked me to open my eyes so that he could measure. I was unable to open my eye. The tech at that point did give me another numbing eyedrop and I was able to open my eye with no problem. When the doctor found out that the tech had given me another eyedrop he said to me, "You're not letting me do my job". I explained that I was unable to open my eye for the measurement without the numbing drops. The contact was then placed and there was immediate relief of pain. It went from 10/10 to 3/10. I was given instructions to return the next day for a follow up. Upon my return the following day, my eye was swollen and still very very tender (see pic). Dr. Lipton stated that he needed to remove the contact to check for healing. I ask him to please place numbing drops before removing the contact, but Dr. Lipton refused stating that he could not do that. He then proceeded to pry my eye open until I screamed "STOP!". Again, he told me that I was not allowing him to do his job. He then wanted to flip my eyelid to see if something was underneath. With my lid as swollen and tender as it was he tried to flip it. Again I screamed "STOP!". He then proceeded to tell me that pain was like having a baby and that it was just something that I had to endure. I was absolutely dumbfounded at his remark. How would he know? Needless to say, I never went back to him again and was very sorry that I had gone the second time. I was grateful however for the initial placement of the contact. I did find a different ophthalmologist and I'm happy to report that my eye is back to normal. I would not recommend Beach Eye Care to anyone!!!! read more

I've been going to Beach Eye Care for several years now and am generally happy with them. Dr Neatrour did my cataract surgery and that turned out well. I also had an issue with a tiny piece of metal shaving that blew in my eye. He treated me an I had no further problems with that. But a few years ago he suggested I have a procedure called Lipiflow for my dry eyes. It's not covered by insurance, costs about $1000+ and it only lasts 18-24 mos. I may be wrong but I do believe that the puffiness I am currently experiencing below each eye has something to do with that procedure. Anyway.... I am VERY happy now that I have started seeing Dr Levine! He is genuine and caring and gentle. I feel very comfortable and confident in him. I would highly recommend Dr Levine!! read more

We are big fans. When you walk in your greeting by the huge fish tank that is really awesome. The waiting room is not big, but never had issue with not finding a place to sit. Water and pretzels are offered to patients in their clean waiting room area. This has been our place to come for all optical needs since moving to Virginia Beach 9 years ago. Dr. Jain is the very best and recommend him if you get an opportunity to choose. The optical department is very accommodating and helpful when choosing a new pair of glasses, or contact lens. They have all of the major brands, but tend to be on the expensive side for adults. Children optical I think is in line with others and they have package deals too. The location is great and makes sense on the First Colonial corridor. I have recommended Beach Eye Care to many friends and family and they come back thanking me. They also have outreach programs such as the Susan Komen breast cancer walk each year.. read more

I've been going to Beach Eye Care for many years. I had my Lasik done there 15 years ago, had a complication which was managed there, and I've continued to go because of that. Even at that time, I felt that they were what I referred to as "the McDonald's of eye care" because it felt like they were all about numbers and getting people in and getting them out, but my billing and care seemed reasonable. In the last several years, I have noticed a shift in how they bill and chart. Perhaps it had always been that way and I just hadn't noticed before, I'm not sure, but a few years ago, I went in for a routine eye exam and ended up having my health insurance billed rather than my eye insurance and having several up charges that I was never informed about. I was essentially double charged and had to fight with their billing department about it until it was corrected. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that I didn't return at all for a couple of years. When I did return to get another routine eye exam, I discovered on my online chart that I had developed a small cataract in the eye that had had the Lasik complication, but Dr. Jain had not informed me of that in office. I called to confirm that the chart was correct and was told that it was. This year, I went back for what was my final visit. During my eye exam, the young lady told me they wanted to test my tears and so blotted a little paper in the corner of each eye. I have had dry eyes as long as I've been going there and have used eye drops to manage that, but this was a first. When I went to check out, my eye exam should have been fully covered by my eye insurance, but the gentleman at the desk informed me that I owed $65. When I asked what that was about, he went to the back and returned to tell me that it was for the tear test. When I told him that I was not informed it wasn't a part of my eye exam, he said nothing. I filled out a form requesting my records be emailed to me as I was taking my eye care elsewhere. Beach Eye Care has become mostly a business that happens to involve eye care versus eye care specialists who run a business. It may seem like a small distinction, but in their case it seems to have affected their integrity and ability to focus on delivering quality service. read more

This is the worst place to go for eye care and I would not take my dog there! Dr. NEATROUR did cataract surgery to my right eye 11 months ago and he botched it up. He left particles behind my retina and I had to see a retina specialist. I had to have surgery to remove the particles and sustained vision problems for several months. When I confronted Dr. NEATROUR about the botched surgery and asked him what he was going to do about it, he smiled and said something like "Nothing, and there is nothing you can do because you signed informed consent." What a way to treat your patient! He admitted he did wrong, and didn't care. I have a huge surgery bill that I'm still paying on and I get so angry every time I have to make a payment! If my credit wouldn't be effected, I'd stop paying on it immediately. Take me advise and DO NOT go to Beach Eye Care ! I wish someone had told me about Dr. NEATROUR before I went to see him. He's the worst ophthalmologist ever and doesn't care about his patients only the money! read more

I sent my 18 year old daughter for a routine eye exam. She currently wears contact lenses and her prescription has changed. She had full insurance and according to my insurance provider should have only been charged a $15 copay. However, while she was there they billed her $81.00 and asked her for payment. When I called and asked what the charge was for I was told it was a "comprehensive" exam to be sure she was a suitable candidate for contacts. When I mentioned she came in wearing contacts I was told the fee was to take measurements for a proper contact fitting. When I asked where the results of that 'fitting' could be found she had no answers for me. When I explained that if I try to order the contacts online they only needed the Rx and never required any such measurement she again had no response. When I asked why they didn't submit this 'comprehensive' exam to my insurance company she again had no explanation. I feel they completely took advantage and billed for something they either didn't do or was not necessary at all. Further, during the exam itself they had my daughter remove her disposable contacts for the eye exam then had her put them back in her eyes, then had her remove them for a glaucoma test. Again they had her put them back in after that test then had her remove them a third time to have her eyes dialated. Her eyes were completely bothered and sore for days following the exam. Further, they never told her she needed her eyes dialated, never gave her the option. They never considered she had driven herself to the appointment and let her leave and didn't even provide her sunglass protection leaving her to call for someone to come get her. I absolutely think Beach Eye Care is overrated, they do not have a good selection of lenses and this is the second (and last) bad experience I plan to have with them. read more

I 100% would NOT recommend Beach Eye Care I get charged for services during my 4th included check up for Lasik (Mind you, I've complained every time I've gone in there that my eyes aren't 100%). After that, I go in again because as I said, my vision isn't correct. I request my eyes be dilated (it was in my notes) because it was recommended by two other Doctors. Dr Jaine tells me in the room "Your eyes are already pretty dilated." I reply "So you're not going to dilate my eyes to get an accurate reading, even though I'm specifically asking you to?" "No." I complain about my vision, and he puts plugs in both of my tear ducts saying its because of dry eye (This took 10 seconds per eye). I get another bill in the mail and it has the previous charge and a new charge for the plugs, which were billed at $285 each. Here we are today and they've sent my bill to collections due to no action being taken for 120 days. The first bill I received from them is dated 1/29/2018. Do the math. Not once have I gone in there and talked to Dr Jaine and felt like I was anything more than a number or a pay check. He is the most dismissive Dr I've ever been to. Following the visit where he put plugs in my eyes, I went to another Dr, had my eyes dilated, and now have glasses I can wear. Dr. Neatrour told me in my 4th visit (The one I was charged for services) that the threshold for touch up to Lasik is a .50 variance. My left eye is +.50 and my right is +.75. I also now have astigmatism in my right eye, thanks to Lasik. NEVER was astigmatism ever a problem for me, and it wasn't noted in the pre-op check up before I had Lasik. This may seem minimal, but it is a HUGE problem. I get headaches now that I didn't have before. Dr Jaine told me it wasn't because of my vision but dry eye. I can put the glasses I have on and it is almost instant relief to my headaches. I am reminded every waking moment that I spent a lot of my hard earned money on a service that was sub par, and I still have to wear glasses. The Dr will say "Oh but we brought you from here to here in your vision." Thats cool. That might look nice on paper. My eye sight isn't what it was with contacts in before surgery. I now get to look elsewhere to have this corrected, and spend more money on something I already paid for, and should have gotten a free touch up on since its included the first year. Icing on the cake, they sent me an appointment reminder saying I was due for an eye exam, right after the year expired. read more

The doctor was fabulous; his assistant was great. But the billing department and front staff are in need of dire re-training. I never got (and asked several times for) an eyeglass prescription and ended up walking out without it. I called for the prescription and left a message; no return call. Called again for the prescription; no return call. Also, my vision plan insurance was not applied to my statement and my bill shows I owe more than I should. Trying to get a return phone call is a nightmare. Unfortunately, I will find another practice; I really liked the provider but cannot deal with the inept staff. read more

Went to Beach eye care after experiencing a flashing light in the right corner of my right eye. My vision had blurred and I was concerned. I told the assistant what my issues were , she noted them and proceeded to take my eye pressures. The pressures were 15 and 16 in each eye. According to the assistant, they like to see nothing higher than a 22 so they were fine. I was sent in to Dr. Lipton's office where I told him what I was experiencing and it seemed to me he was more concerned with upgrading my prescription than with the issues I was having. He concluded the exam and said he wanted to see me the next week. I returned to Beach eye care the following week. The assistant I was sent to asked me my issues and I once again explained what I was experiencing. She then took my eye pressures and they were 22 and 23 in each eye. (23 in my right). I asked if that was a problem with the high pressure number and this different assistant said it was no big deal. I was then sent to see Dr. Lipton once again where I again told him my issues. By this point my vision was blurry, like a haze. When I looked into lights, they had halos around them. I told him all of this, and he proceeded to finish the eye prescription exam he started the previous week and told me if my sight changed to come back. Fast forward 4 to 5 days and I noticed a severe change in my sight. I had thousands of floaters, a streamer in the center of my eye, and the color of what I was seeing through my right eye was like looking through watered down tea. I went back to Beach eye care and told them what I was experiencing. Thankfully I was given another doctor to see. He found I had several tears in my retina and I was immediately sent to a Retinal specialist. He found I had not 2, but 3 tears and a partial retinal separation. I feel if Dr. Lipton would have been more concerned with what I was telling him about my sight, he wouldn't have worried so much about pursuing me to buy glasses from him but have looked further into my issues and saved me from having emergency laser surgery on my eye. While thank to the Retinal specialist who did the surgery, my sight is not what it was prior. Very disappointed and WILL NOT use Beach eye care for anything nor will I recommend anyone to use them. read more

I tried to order contact lens for my wife at Holland Road Beach Eye Care and was told I needed to send a text to be seen in a timely manner. Always a hassle and lack of concern for customers at Beach Eye Care. I did go online and ordered contracts from Lens.com, which probably saved me money. Beach Eye Care knows their contacts cost more than ordering online, but try and make the case they provide customer service if you order from them. Good luck with that. Beach Eye Care seems to be more concerned with forcing customers online and away from their brick and mortar locations than taking care of their customers. I would have called Beach Eye Care, but their business model is to not answer the phone, have you leave a message, which will never be returned. I'm not sure how Beach Eye Care is still in business. Reading other reviews I see I'm not the only one that received horrible customer service. read more
