This is an awesome shop. They have a really great selection, especially of vinyl, and great prices. Everybody was super friendly and knowledgeable. How many times, day after day, do you ride the same streets, going in the same direction? How many times do you pay attention to the plazas you speed by? That has happened to me, for a little over a month. I would travel the same stretch of McGregor every day, and not look around to see what's hidden in back areas. Until I saw a sign for Beach Records on the street. This review is about my first time in and why it's a 3 star and not more. I would love to rate this higher and say "I'm a fan" or "It's as good as it gets!" but I am sorry, I can't. I am more comfortable saying it's closer to a 4 star review (but not the label) than a 2 star review, so when Yelp makes half stars, I can review this place as being 3.5. I do have to say the store is in no way worth anything less than 3 stars. Not a chance due to the staff being friendly and talkative, as well as the stash of music that's around. What happened that is prohibiting me from a zomg worthy review? First and foremost, there were at least half a dozen people hanging around in the space. All lounging on the couches and looking at the records. I think most of them worked there? I'm not sure. It felt comforting that there were people hanging out - that this could be a place to chill for a bit and see what people bring in to sell or buy. But it also felt weird because one could get too comfortable and it would turn into some awkwardness. Maybe it's just me. But it's not a bad thing in the end. It was good to see people in the store because it makes you want to go back. I feel like although they have an array of good rock and pop albums, the place is a little cramped to properly walk out with your own fresh crate of audio. When I went in, they had just gotten in a new shipment of wax to sort through and price. So having to almost immediately step over that to get to the various boxed tables was the first sign "it's gonna be interesting!". It 's bound to be good because you're apt to find something so elusive, that you're going to thank the music gods. Or so I hoped. Trolling through the boxes on the tables, everything is in some sort of alphabetical order. But nothing really is in order after that. I think they make the attempt to put things by name, but with the seemingly constant expansion of new records coming in, I can understand why it would be a daunting task. However the ABC OCD in me started kicking in, after 15 minutes. I very easily wanted to start unboxing everything and start putting them in order. I must have done 3 laps around the space before I felt like giving up... and yet I stayed for an hour and finally found 2 records. The genre of music they had was as interesting as the music they were playing on the record player at the time I walked in. There is mostly rock and pop with a table of "new arrivals". This could be anything. There was a section of jazz, blues, metal, hip hop, -brand new- ( still wrapped new new), country, indie, underground, soundtracks and boxed sets. I know this isn't a big box retailer... but I'd have liked to see more variety as it was heavy in one section and not others. Some of the groupings were left to 2 crates. The focus of the genres was not of rarities under electronic or disco; it was rock and pop, if I recall correctly. I did see a real small section of 80s and 90s albums but the 90s albums were alt rock, I think. There were quite the few areas where I had no clue who the band was. The wall of CDs and cassettes were good - just as much an assortment as the rest of the store. I did not take a CD down to price check it, but I trust it is all within reason. There was a rack of band shirts, but I didn't know the bands. There is a corner of some underground bands, but I can't tell you who they were, sadly. As far as prices for things are concerned, I have to add a side note to say I've been in other second hand record stores that felt a little more clean and were staged better for an easy find and sale. The difference is, the prices from those other places compared to this place, is night and day. At Beach Records, the prices are great because the albums are between $2 and $15. Some are $20 to $25. Unmarked albums are $2 but the staff is willing to work with you on prices, as the two records I bought were less than I was expecting ($3 total). I think I would have paid at least double that at another store. I am sure I'll find my way back in to Beach Records when I have the time. What will stop me from going more frequently are their hours. They are only open from Thursday to Sunday and it's 2pm to 7pm. It seems more hobby hours than business hours, so I'll have to see when I can be back and look around. read more

Friendly, reasonable, and knowledgeable. There's usually a crowd of friendly people hanging around, and they're all interested to see what you found. Everything is well priced, and that helps keep the selection constantly turning over, so there's new stuff every time you swing through. I travel a little, and I always try to hit record stores. What a great place. Had lots of old vinyl in various conditions. The place is really cool and people working are super friendly. Fun place to shop. Their records are not organized to perfection but that adds to the hunt. Their prices were pretty good and they added a little discount as I was buying multiple records. The hours are a little weird but worth going and spending some time. They also are in facebook and you can send them messages and they will hold stuff for you etc. check this place out. I cannot recommend Beach Records highly enough. Marty and his staff are wonderful, simple as that. They take a cue from you, either you want help, or you like to be left to browse. The vinyl is priced to sell, and there are more discounts given if you buy multiple items. There is always playful banter between the 'staff' (staff isn't the correct word, they seem to be the best of friends), and you cannot ask a question they don't know the answer to regarding music. I love being there and would go more often, but one must remain on speaking terms with one's betrothed. read more

Great shop. Tons of records to look through. Proprieter is very personable. Atmosphere is very casual and non-commercial-- it's essentially an open warehouse space with a few dozen crates, a couple couches, a small stage, and a fun assortment of album art on the walls. Definitely a place to check out if you have the ability to play vinyl at home. As the previous reviewer said, tons of records for 2 bucks and not just bad, throwaway albums. I went in and got 5 good records for 15 bucks. From what I hear, they are doing some live shows there too. This will no doubt provide a much-needed venue of this kind for the area - an independent venue where original music is played and where the music is not just background for some business operation. This is my kind of record store. There is a large selection and variety here. The focus is on the long play 33 records but they do have 12", 45s and CDs. They focus on classic rock, soul, metal and blues. If something does not have a price tag it is $2 dollars. The average price I saw was 5-15 dollars. The owner , Marty was very generous with the records I brought in, giving me half of what they were worth in cash. It is perfectly situated next to a brewery , so if you bring in a pile of records to sell, you can head on over to the brewery for a beer while Marty tallies your stash. A pretty good hole in the wall store. Picked up some LPs in pretty good condition. The organization could be a little better, and the selection of classic punk and garage is lacking, but the store itself has a certain charm and it's pretty solid overall. read more

Beach Records is the real deal. The owner is definitely a connoisseur of vinyl and music traditions. I believe his name is Marty and he welcomed questions about artists, genre,... the entire 9-yards and he could put his finger on almost anything or at least point to a section where the selection could be found. A vast selection of vinyl is there at Beach Records. The location is a little difficult to find but that's why they invented GPS, right?!? My tastes run towards jazz and classical and Beach Records is no different than any other vinyl store,... their collections of classical is scant but gets expanded in jazz. The true meat-on-the-bone is rock 'n roll, metal, and all things upbeat in guitar, drums, bass, keyboard music. My stop was on a Friday and the owner and his staffer mentioned they'd been having live music and a DJ rock the shop (which is operates in a storage bay type setting) on Saturday nights starting in the early evening hours,.... to build business.
