When I walked in, the familiar smell of vinyl and covers hit me a a wave of nostalgia washed over me. I swear it made me at least a decade younger, just flipping through, admiring the album art, remembering the same album covers I used to see back when I owned a JVC sound system and sang and danced in my room. Great customer service and the selection was awesome. I don't know enough about albums to know whether or not the price was right, but I got two albums that appeared to be in the original packaging, so I am expecting great sounds. We were passing by Joe's Record Exchange while exploring downtown Fort Meyers and couldn't resist checking it out. Nice store, very well decorated with cool vintage posters in the walls and great horror memorabilia. They have a bit of everything: vinyl, DVD-s, memorabilia, CD-s, t-shirts, books, horror mags, etc. Nice resource for the area. Prices are a tad higher, but customer service is good. Closed on Mondays! We could have spend more time in here, browsing through their merchandise, fun place! read more

We found this place during and unplanned walk. We were at the convention center for an event, had lunch then headed down 1st street to take in the old world Florida charm that the area has. We happened upon Joe's Record Exchange, and decided to check it out. I've got to say, I loved this place. As soon as we entered, we were met with probably the most relaxing and nostalgic environment imaginable. The old comics and the books on the self took me back to my childhood and the amazing assortment of records available was unbelievable. The music on in the background was so chill and it was something I had heard before, but couldn't put my finger on it. Rather than ponder over it for the rest of my life, I decided to ask the guy who it was. He let me know it was Bobbi Humphrey so I added it to my playlist and have it on while at work. My wife bought a record and a Funko Pop. Sometimes the best gems in life we find by accident, and they enrich us as a result. If you stop in, you'll find a something you'll like; whether it's an item, or a memory. read more

Located in the downtown/old town section, this music/collectors shop fits in perfectly with the character of Fort Myers, FL and the surroundings. One of the more pleasant stores I've walked into, the stores selection is quite large with a variety for the size of the store. Also kept clean and in impeccable shape. Aside from records, DVDs, CDs, and collectible items are for sale in this cool store. The owner Joe is friendly and easy to chat with about records and music in general. Pay attention to what he plays in the store, it could lead you to new musical tastes. That's how I heard Frank Frost singing the blues. After digging through the merch, his album Hey Boss Man! is now a part of my music collection. This is a must walk in when you come to Fort Myers. Let me start off by saying that I've been to a lot of record stores in my life. None of the selection at those stores can even remotely compare to the selection at Joe's. I walked in on a whim one day and ended up leaving with a stack of some of my favorite albums (think the White Stripes, Cramps, Dead Kennedys, even a Frank Sinatra). Used albums are in great condition, so don't worry about anything being overly scratched or not playing correctly. Very knowledgeable owner. Joe is really polite and knows so much about music and what he has in stock. Reasonable prices too. Very much worth a visit if you're a vinyl listener/collector like me! read more

I adored this place and feel lucky that I found it. Each LP record I checked out - and thence bought - was in pristine condition. (And I'm pretty picky and crochety). In other stores out in the world I usually see something that I really want, but then check out the condition of the record and am disappointed... but not the day I was here, I was super lucky, I guess? I don't know where Mr. Joe finds these LPs, but the quality was very high, the condition was excellent, and so please keep them coming! Wish this store had more classical music on vinyl, but no matter, I bought some great old jazz. Looking forward to the next time I'm in the area. read more

Love this place!!! I recently got a record player and have been hearing so many good things about Joe's. I bought some records online before finally making my way to Joe's near downtown fort Myers. I was probably in there for about an hour and a half and I feel like I could've stayed longer! He has the most epic collection! Time to update my review on this record store....nothing to update- this store is still fabulous. More then ever. Joe the owner is terrific and friendly and Doug who works in the store is super helpful and knows his stuff. One word of caution- or a few words- if you see it, buy it!! Do not make the mistake I made- I saw an item and put it back intending to buy it on my next visit as I already had a handful of items to buy and it was long gone on my next visit. This is one of the very few record stores that if you find an album you want, you do not have to inspect it. Joe has done that hard work already and will not sell it in his store if it does not meet his super high quality standards. I am currently on vacation with my family and wanted to try out a local record store and let me just say that this store beats out any record store I've been to recently, it has an amazing selection of fantastic albums both new and old while also being extremely organized, clean, and welcoming. I can not stress enough how nice of a store this is, I'm honestly really upset thinking about how ill have to go home to other record stores after coming here. Top notch place for records as well as other fun stuff! Over the last year, I've been slowly replenishing my record collection from my teen years. My Tuesday trips to Joe's have become my special weekly treat. I almost always find two to three of my favorites. He not only has great used stuff, he also has an excellent selection of new vinyl and reprints. Took the 2 hour drive from Tampa to Ft Myers to meet Joe and do business with him and he was such a breath of fresh aiir. A very congenial and professional business man who knows his records. He managed to get through my 600 records before the day was over and made me an offer I could not refuse. He gave me some good sound advice for resale of the rest of my records. One of my favorite record stores I've ever visited. I'm in Ft Myers once a year and I always visit Joes. Not an enormous amount of records, but what they have is unique and high quality. Prices are pretty good and the guy behind the counter is extremely friendly and helpful. Cool collectables too (I especially love the vintage movie posters!). Joe's is an incredible record store for so many reasons that will keep customers coming back. First of all, his selection is incredible. Definitely a leaning towards rock (yes, a very overarching term, but you know what I mean), but he has jazz, hip hop, pop, country, blues, electronic, indie, and a dash of world music. Secondly, everything is very well organized and the shop is very clean. Thirdly, great location being just off the main drag of downtown Fort Myers. The two times I have gone to Joe's, I've walked out with an obscure Moog centered record because I don't see those anywhere else, and they're also at a fair price of $10-$15. With that said, the new records that Joe carries are all on the top end of the price range for a standard LP. But hey, when you finally see the album or albums that you've been looking for, what's an extra few bucks? My uncle fuckin' loves this place. I got him a turntable for Christmas and he's been coming to Joe's for all of his records. Lots of uncle and dad rock, but there's stuff for everyone! read more

Joe's Record Exchange was a stop during a week's vacation in Florida. Joe runs the place and his selection and knowledge of vinyl is top-notch. I've only recently (Year 2015) become reacquainted with vinyl and Joe has nearly everything imaginable. The feeling I got was that Rock 'n Roll was the specialty. Because I lean towards jazz and classical I may have been less served.....but the exceptional inventory had me amazed. When asked about any LP, the source or how it was acquired, Joe obliged. My find? A Double-LP of The Dave Gruisin Quartet that was "LIVE" from Carnegie Hall. The LP was in MONO, something you look for in early LPs as the sound is deep and rich. Back in the day, high-end content was achieved by allowing all sound, full sound, to come from both speakers. Stereo is not what you want in early classical or jazz. I was floored by the sound when I lowered the needle. Joe's is cool. Joe's is solid. Joe's is THE PLACE for vinyl even if you have to drive 1 - 2 hours. read more
