I've always heard of bed and breakfast establishments and decided this would be the perfect opportunity for my boyfriend and I. We were welcomed by the mother and daughter duo who made sure our stay was met to the Tea! Pat and Courtney offered us their generous hospitality. The home had such a homey feel to it that both my boyfriend and I immediately felt so relaxed when we stepped in. It is located in the heart of Long Beach so we were able to do so much during our short trip. The best part is that it was super close to one of my favorite views of the 3 major cities in SoCal (Hilltop Park). If you are traveling to SoCal and need a place to stay, I highly recommend this place if you are looking to relax during your vacation. read more

What a wonderful gem of a place! My parents and husband and I really enjoyed our two night stay here. The owners are lovely and charming. The B&B is beautiful and clean. It's very comfortable and made me happy being here. We were lucky and got to stay in the Laguna Beach room which is beautiful- it has a king size bed and is decorated in blue and white and is very cheery and bright. The decorations are Long Beach based in this room and they made me happy. Each room has its own bathroom and ours had a bathtub which was nice. The rooms have comfortable robes and also high quality toiletries. Even the Kleenex and the toilet paper are nicer than at any hotel. Our bed was extremely comfortable and I loved the firm pillows- we slept great and felt like the inn was quiet. There are rooms you can hang out in downstairs and they are pretty and comfortable. The breakfast is very good- the first morning we had some of the best scrambled eggs and bacon I've ever had! The second morning there was a cheesy sausage breakfast casserole. They have pretty fruit dishes and choices of yogurt and cereal and breads and toppings for the bread too. And coffee (or course) and juices. Very good. There are lots of little special details around that we appreciated. You are walking distance from the beach which is wonderful and if you're a good walker it's also walking distance to Belmont Shore which has great shopping and restaurants. You are also near to my favorite donut shop in CA, Broadway Donuts! :) I will stay here again and again in the future when I get a chance- I highly recommend Beachrunner's Inn! read more

Beachrunner's was truly a grand surprise. It's important to remember that this is a personal residence that the host, Patricia, shares with valued guests. If you're wanting the fanciest of fancy rooms, go somewhere else. BUT, if you want a great location with charming rooms in a historic home with a host that truly makes you feel welcome and valued as a guest, this is the place! Breakfast is served each morning and was delicious and the back patio was intimate/ pleasant... totally helps you forget that you're in the middle of a city. Location is great with many attractions within walking distance as well. The plan is to return to Beachrunner's whenever we're in Long Beach as the experience of staying there was integral to our overall experience in the city. My partner and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend this year, 2020. The location is incredible--close to the beach and free daily yoga at 11am in Bixby park, and all the shops on 4th Street. The house itself is a beautifully restored and furnished craftsman home. What I liked the most was how many common areas there were, between the kitchen, living room, and a tranquil back patio that itself had a few different places to cozy up and share a take out meal, or Pat's wonderful breakfast! Even though the place was full when we were there they staggered the breakfasts and I never really saw anyone else. Between that and the variety of common areas it felt very safe. Room is great for a couple, pretty small but bed was comfy and the bathroom really modern. Next door to one of the best acai bowls in LA, so that's a plus! Also feels great to support a long-tenured local business rather than some hotel/motel chain. Owners really take pride in their craft! read more

Stayed at the Beachrunners for three nights May 2015. First impression: Didn't receive warmest welcome. Front door is kept locked and is only accessible to guests with keys. Arrived at around 4PM, knocked on front door. A few minutes later the owner opened the door and stood silent in the doorway. No smile or greeting. The place smells old. Can definitely tell it was built in 1913. . B&B is located on the corner of a busy street, very noisy. Complimentary ear plugs were provided in the room. Definitely not a place for light sleepers or people sensitive to noise. Bed was uncomfortable. Room can get warm at night, house does not have air conditioning. Room cools off with all 3 windows open but creates noisier environment due to the traffic. No curtains provided in this room, just white see through sheers covering the windows. The solid drapes in the corners are merely decorative and don't cover the entirety of window. Drapes are a must for the Kennebac room as it faces the street and people can easily see in at night with just the sheers. Complimentary eye mask was provided in the room since the sun comes in early. The Kennebac room is considered the second largest room in the B&B The room was small, there was quite a bit of dust and dirt present. Cobwebs above the bed and in corners, shower was less than pristine. Carpet is old. Stains present on blanket and mattress cover, staff was notified and replaced both. Appreciated the replacement. Breakfast is provided from 0700 to 0900 AM, make sure to get there early unless you want to warm it up in the microwave. The breakfast is NOT made fresh when you arrive to the dining area. If you show up for breakfast at 0800 or 8:30 you will be eating an egg dish that has been sitting on the table since 0700AM. (If there's anything left) Other B&B's I have stayed at make breakfast as guests arrive, so this was a substandard feature. There are also cold items provided such as fruit, cereal, breads, yogurt, juice, and coffee. I enjoyed getting to meet some of the other guests during breakfast. PROS: Free parking. However the 5 parking spots are located in a back alley that shares the lot with a body shop. (see photo) Lots of run down and beat up cars, doesn't seem the safest to park there at night if you are traveling alone. Overall staying here was akin to visiting a distant relative or staying at a grandma's house. Service felt impersonal, at times I felt like I was imposing. Would be tolerable for one night, wouldn't recommend staying longer. The best sleep I got all week occurred after I checked out of this place and into a Hilton. Upon checkout an individual in a hoodie was seen sleeping on the floor behind the check in desk. Very strange and unprofessional. I won't be coming back. read more

I'll admit, I've never stayed at a bed-and-breakfast before so some of this may be par for the course. This property is well-cared for and clean for the most part. However, I believe it's time for a deep cleansing. (There is plenty dust and dirt in the less conspicuous areas.) Although located on a fairly busy street, it's remarkably quiet and parking was never an issue. The one thing I couldn't get used to was a host/hostess not being readily available if there were any issues (e.g. key "problems," user error or not.) Also, breakfast was made at the beginning of the breakfast period, and merely left out on the table. Again, no host/hostess to be found until clean up time. I was hoping to see what the attraction is to a B&B, but I just can't see it. Sorry. read more

I feel some of the pictures and reviews on here are from people that didn't do their research. This location is right in town and walking distance to everything. There is street noise though the inn keeper offers ear plugs. I think that's a brilliant way to basically say -"hey it's in the city". It's like complaining that it's too hot in Vegas and you decide to travel in August. The building was build in 1913 though its upgraded with modern day amenities and it was actually very clean compared to the pictures "one user" posted. I recommend this, the owner was very nice and breakfast was perfect. read more

Our apartment is small so my in-laws stayed here while they were in town visiting last holiday season. The prices were fair, the rooms were extremely clean, and the family who owns the place was super friendly. The only complaint was that the room smelled of perfume and my in-laws are very sensitive to scented stuff. The owner said that it was due to the previous guests and she makes sure to wash everything in fragrance-free detergent. The street noise can also be a bit loud as Broadway is such a main drag. Neither are worth knocking off a star, in my opinion. Will be booking a room for my parents soon! read more

My husband and I had a cruise in long beach and was looking for a place that had a good location to downtown. We normally stay in your typical hotels or motels but I wanted to try a bed and breakfast. After reading a few reviews I decided to take a chance and book it through Expedia (horrible experience). Location was excellent. Only a few mins to downtown and to the beach. 10 mins to cruise terminal. The house is super clean and cozy. It is on the small side but it didn't bother us cause we were always out. Pat, the owner and hostess, is such a sweet lady. The breakfast was decent. Think continental. **only issue we had was the check in. Pat didn't hear us and we had to wait a little bit. I say come at 330pm. This is where the expedia issue arises and they tried making us cancel with penalty. Overall I will certainly stay here again next time we go to long beach read more

my honey surprised me with a night up in long beach and a gondola ride through the naples bay waterways. she booked last minute and picked beachrunners, one of only two B & B's that appeared on a google search for Long Beach. this B & B isn't very fancy--it doesn't really feel like a hotel of any sort; it just feels like you're staying in someone's home. the furniture downstairs is gently worn and it feels homey. i really liked that about it, but it wouldn't be ideal for everyone. the rooms are tiny, nicely decorated, and spotlessly clean. our room (the kennebec room) had a queen bed, a private shower/toilet, and a nice bank of windows that open onto the street. the owners saw to all the little details--even the soaps included were high quality, and i noticed there are robes in the closet. despite that the rooms are obviously very close together, we didn't hear any one else around, but that may be because we were the only guests. they have a hot tub, but we were in and out and didn't get to use it. i liked the family-owners a lot. i found pat to be warm and professional, her daughter was helpful in the morning with a place to eat some breakfast (we didn't wake up early enough for theirs), and her husband moses was such a character. he--nodding off in his armchair with his unlit cigarette in his hand (i assume he quit, hence the unlit part)--was my favorite. the B & B is located in a working class (ha! overpriced working class, like so much of OC) neighborhood, a convenient drive from the belmont shore and ocean areas. we decided when we return to long beach that we'll try the other B & B, just to compare and because the other one is owned by queer "family," but we'd go back to Beachrunner's for an affordable, comfortable night's stay. read more

Just realized I never finished this review and it is long over due. My wife and I stayed last year and had a wonderful time. It felt like being at Grandma's house and the location is amazing. This place celebrated its 100th year. It's very clean and very comfortable. The patio and the common room are very nice and relaxing. We stayed in the Long Beach room upstairs. I stayed with here with my boyfriend (who is not a fan of bed and breakfast spots in general) and we had a lovely time. We were in town to visit my sister who lives down the block so it was super convenient. The space was quiet, clean, and breakfast was delicious. I also stayed in the Laguna Beach room, as described in the review below. It was super-clean (squeaky clean, even), and totally charming. The house, built in 1913, is amazingly preserved, and tastefully decorated. And yes - top of the line toiletries and other such amenities (I've even looked up the company, POGESSI, to see how I could maybe obtain some of their products, albeit they mainly cater to top hotels and inns.) The Innkeepers, Pat and daughter Courtney, are pleasant and helpful. The next morning Pat asked if I slept well - and I was honest: that I didn't sleep so well (not even for having walked and walked and visited the GREENPEACE ship at the Harbor - "Arctic Sunrise".) It had been a busy day with dinner out, with walking in the searing heat, etc. So, I myself wondered why I didn't sleep so well on the very comfortable king bed! I finally figured it was because of the hot day - and the whirring fan above the bed which kept the room cool. I had actually liked the fan, but apparently it was "different" enough for me - for sleep time. Let's put it this way, I had a great shower/bath, relaxed over a late night movie--a classic, "Homebound"--and a great rest (in and out of some sleep) on that bed. I don't fault the B&B (and I'm glad they didn't have usually-too-cold air conditioning, frankly); it was just me, the climate-change weather, and the whirling fan above!! Hot day!! The breakfast was nice, similar as described below. Lots of fresh fruit. Organic, though? (I'm an organic-fruit nut! Berries, e.g., are difficult to fully clean if not organic.) And okay coffee (I believe it was Green Mtn. brand). I'm a coffee connoisseur, so my critical tentacles are out there when it comes to coffee! Very interesting house - and a patio for relaxing, reading... The only perplexment was the issue of water. I thought the Innkeeper had said to pay $1 for sodas in the kitchen's little guest fridge, but then in the room there was a notice to pay $1 for sodas OR water. Well, I needed more water--a bottle of good Arrowhead water, I think it was. I didn't pay; I took the first instruction that only sodas are paid for. I think the fundamental of water (esp. in hot climates) should never be charged for at a B&B. I've stayed at B&B's in this or less than this price-range where water and sodas and juices are free, are possibly even stocked in a little fridge in your room, and if you need more, just ask. Otherwise, here at Beachrunners Inn, there was a spirit of generosity. The Inn overall is totally charming, giving the experience of an earlier era; and the Innkeepers are friendly. Pat will give more history of the place if you ask. I'd like to visit again, and I recommend this B&B--apparently the only real Bed & Breakfast in this Long Beach area! read more

I am not sure how many stars to award. The house is beautiful, immaculately kept and nicely decorated. The apple from the fruit bowl was fresh and crisp. The breakfast quiche was delicious and still warm at 7:45. There was a copy of the LA Times out for us to read, which was nice. The most significant issue was the mattress. I slept ok but partner and I woke up with back pain due to mattress sagging in the middle. I got the feeling, checking in, that the owner could not possibly see as little of us as she wanted to. I wanted to ask about the history of the house but felt that conversation was unwelcome. Perhaps the owner is an introvert? This is not an experience I am used to at a B&B. I'd rather stay at a hotel next time I visit Long Beach. read more

We stayed with Pat at Beachrunners in April 2014. It was the perfect location for us. A couple of blocks from the beach, plenty of restaurants within walking distance and downtown was a quick bus ride away. We were so relaxed that we ended up staying an extra night. The room was nice, clean, and maintained. I borrowed a book from the communal shelf and dvd's to watch on the dvd player in the room. The long beach Museum was super close, and we tried a new coffee shop in the area every morning. The complimentary soap, shampoo, etc was high quality. We never met Courtney. read more

I do not take the time to write many reviews. I stayed here for two nights at the beginning of April while in town on business. Its just like Grandma's house. Quiet and peaceful. Yes I saw one little tiny bug. My bedroom was just what I needed to come back and sleep comfortably at night after a long day of meetings. The staff is polite and you rarely see them. I felt I had the place to myself. The area is close enough to walk to a few local spots to eat or get your nails done, the PCH is a couple blocks and its on the bus route if you need. My husband and I enjoyed the beachrunners inn back in January. However, the day after we returned I broke out in a terrible rash. I contacted Pat right away and she informed me that the hot tub had been treated the morning we used it. I spent over $100 on medical bills to treat this allergic reaction ( the chemical levels were off). Pat was apologetic and said she would send us a voucher to come for a future visit. This was over a month ago and I still haven't received the voucher. I have sent 2 follow up emails. Although we enjoyed our stay, the customer service could use improvement. And I would not recommend using the hot tub. read more
