The front desk staff members are absolutely fantastic. Super kind and helpful- especially the young man and lady checking us in and out including Elizabeth with my Full Suite reservation for 4 days for the busy event Weekend Only caveat is the dining options for those on the boat- Chelsea being closed and coming to the Promenade an hour before closing at 8pm to either dine in or take to our rooms- to say the kitchen is already closed when the restaurant closing time is at 9pm is deceptive. Food is good for what it is and I love to sponsor the ship and business when I can, but unclear and inconsistent timing makes it hard and disappointing otherwise. read more

The first thing to remember about The Queen Mary is that she is a historic ship, now a hotel. If you are interested in an immersive experience, taking yourself back in history, you will enjoy the historic hotel. The restaurants, bars and shops offer unique experiences that are quintessential to the Queen Mary and improvements continue to be made. Is everything perfect? No but that is the beauty of the unique Queen Mary Hotel. Time should be taken to take in all the available displays, self guided tour, films about her history as well as a meal at The Chelsea, or Promenade Cafe, cocktails at the Observation Bar. The daily breakfast buffet has all the breakfast offerings and an amazing view of downtown Long Beach across the water. A La Carte breakfast is also available. Now that the F&M Bank Amphitheatre in Long Beach is open, this is the perfect place to stay and then walk to the Amphitheatre for your concert. The location is "across the street" - but it feel so close that it seems like it's in the parking lot of the Queen Mary. Because the Queen Mary is a historic ship, the walls are thin, the hotel doesn't have all the traditional bells and whistles that are common in newer hotels but for me, that is part of the experience. There isn't central air or heat but you can request a fan or more blankets, if the room is too loud they do offer ear plugs. What the hotel does have is beautiful historic woodwork, Art Deco style in the staterooms, 1930s artwork, photos of the celebrities who have stayed on the Queen Mary, working portholes. It's a time capsule that you can enter. Explore their website, review the tours that are available and remember that you can do self guided exploration as well. I understand that the nostalgia of it is a draw. The food & cocktails in the Observation Deck bar are good. And, the views from the deck are beautiful. But I would not recommend that anyone ever stay here overnight. It is pricey and the equivalent of a 2 star motel. We stay in a family suite once a year to attend a music festival because the proximity of the venue and the convenience trumps comfort. But it is not a "nice" stay. The rooms are so dated and nothing works! The wifi is spotty, the rooms are ice boxes and the linens are thin and flimsy, and the bathrooms are barely useable. During this last stay, there was no hot water so we couldn't shower before heading home. I called the front desk and spoke to a woman who said I was the second caller with this issue and would send "engineering" to check it out. No one ever came and an hour later when I called back, the front desk had stopped answering the phone. I tried three times. When you ckeck in, you are told not to touch the temperature and to call the desk. Obviously, they're aware that there's an issue with the rooms being cold so why not address it or at the very least provide extra blankets. My teeth were literally chattering on the first night and I put on thick sweats and a hoodie to sleep in! Stay at a neighboring hotel of which there are many, including a Marriott which is very nice. Come here for lunch & a tour but do not spend the night. Be forewarned! read more

I loved the shuttle to and from Pike's Parking Garage. The shuttle stops right in front of both locations. Please purchase your tickets ahead of time... I bought the Haunted Tour. It was suppose to be an hour out but in reality it was more like 45 minutes. We started 5 minutes late waiting for some late arrivals and we finished about 10 minutes early in front of Jackie's. The tour was OK... visited only one part of the ship that is not available to the general public. Tour did well in telling the history of the ship. Sorry did not experience anything really strange except when we were at the 1st Class pool we heard some knocking coming from the bow of the ship. Like others have mentioned - I understand the nostalgic, historical draw to this attraction. However, I would not recommend staying overnight at the hotel. The rooms are extremely dated (fine, preserved aesthetic, I get it), but they lack basic care and maintenance. The walls are dirty, the carpet feels grimy, and the fixtures are in need of serious cleaning or upgrading. I would not stay here again. It is the equivalent of a sub-part budget hotel. read more

Honest opinion. The twin beds room was old, dark, and dusty. It turned out to be a bit below average hotel. If you like old fashioned vintage style hotels, The Queen Mary hotel may be worth checking out. Thin walls and dim lights. For a discounted price around $143-$144 a night, you can hear everyone talking next door/down the hall or snoring at night. Yes, you will get interrupted as a light sleeper during your sleep time. Expect ship horns blowing around 10am/3pm/6pm. Carnival cruise ships are nearby as well. Water dripping sounds outside the windows and sometimes the bathroom toilet. Other than that, the stay included clean sheets/puffy pillows, lots of drawers for storage items, good closet space with mirrors behind the closet doors, etc. Employees and front desk staffs are helpful, but it's a different type feeling/not your most polished service. Room gets cold at times. $39 per night guest parking in the lot was a bit pricey. Foods at restaurants aren't cheap, but there's a good selection to choose from. As a hotel guest, you can wander around as desired. There's an old gym with checkered floorings onboard too. For Queen Mary experiences, it's actually much better and the tour guides are well trained. There's plenty to see and you can check out local onsite events. Tea time is available on Sundays. Exciting and adventurous if it's your first visit. Engine room, museum, explore the shops, various decks, bar/restaurants. We've been here 3 times, but this was our very first hotel stay. The Queen Mary is historic and a well known landmark in Long Beach, California. It's a great place to take photos and create memories. Note, there are plenty of stairways, hallways, etc., enough to give you a good walking experience to get to all the unique places. It's a decent place to check out, but for overnight stays, I would be a bit hesitant about revisiting. read more

Beautiful ship with so much rich history. I love visiting historical places, and I always appreciate it when they're not just treated as museums but are still functional. We went for Sunday brunch and also joined the steam engine tour. I didn't realize that once you're done with brunch, you can roam around the ship freely--I thought you needed separate tickets, so I also booked the tour. We did enjoy it though; it was very informative. The theater was really nice too. I can imagine what it must have been like back in the day when people actually sailed on the Queen Mary minus the ship rocking back and forth up to 45 degrees, haha. I was really surprised that it's dog-friendly, both as a hotel and a museum, even in the buffet area. I would have thought they'd worry about accidents that could damage the ship or be difficult to clean. I don't believe in ghosts, but it's fun that they offer a ghost tour if you're into that kind of thing. I also enjoyed the spooky store downstairs, and you can see the most haunted room through a window. I wish we could have seen the pool. Well technically you can view it through a window, but since I'm short, it was hard to get a good look. Overall, the Queen Mary was a fun experience. Lots of stairs between decks / huge ship / lots of walking. 4. Make sure your phone is fully charged - hundreds of photo opps. Summary: We came on a fairly quiet weekday, but still restaurant reservations are highly recommended. The food was top-notch. Will return to eat - a real treat. The Queen Mary not only serves as a cool piece of history located right here in Long Beach, but also a real cool location for some of Southern California's best music festivals. I like that the ship is being used in such a cool way, for the festivals (Day Trip, Dreamstate, and Apocalypse) you can even get a hotel room on the ship. The whole ship is booked out only to festival attendees. I know you can also book rooms throughout the year and the ship also offers different tours, including a haunted ghost tour since the ship is supposedly haunted!!! PROS: -An almost authentic historic experience stay aboard a somewhat "Titantic" cruise ship. -Well restored sections of the ship throughout -Observation Bar and the Semi Secret Speakeasy with live music were both fun. -Historic First Class Cabins are actually quite roomy and comfy. Loved the ambience and time travel! -We were here for a Swing Dancing/Lindy Hop event...so fun! -Excellent Breakfast Buffet we used the $50 credit for. -Friendly staff all around. CONS: -It's an almost 100 year old boat! It's going have some quirks, creaks, aches, noises...all of which are expected, even on a modern cruise ship. Fun Fact: RMS Queen Mary was significantly bigger than the RMS Titanic in terms of length, beam, and gross tonnage. I also liked seeing the Titanic model inside and photos of the famous passengers like Audrey Hepburn. While we were on vacation in Long Beach, we checked out The Queen Mary before heading off on a 5-day cruise. The one-hour tour was totally worth it. The Queen Mary's Haunted Encounters Tour is an educational adventure that isn't too spooky. The guided tour person provided some eerie stories and history of the ship. The tour also highlights some of the most interesting ghost stories and experiences. After the tour, we relaxed with some drinks at the lovely Observation Bar. The staff was friendly and paid attention to us, and, the cocktails tasted amazing! We came here on a Sunday afternoon just to have a drink on the ship. We were taken a back that we had to pay $45 each to even board but we had no idea the experience that awaited us. We are so glad we did this because we did not know the extensive history of the ship. We were absolutely blown away by everything we learned and saw that day. The highlights for us was the propeller room, engine room, the historic bar, promenade, and the bridge. There's also a World War II exhibit. We had no idea that Winston Churchill used the ship during the war. Plan at least three hours or more to see everything. Unfortunately, we came right after a big music festival so not everything was open. They do have a Royal Sunday brunch. We for sure will be back to experience that. read more

I was here for a work event, but I would like to go back to explore the ship. We were in the main dining room for a dinner. Dinner was fine, but it was nothing to write home about. I loved the jazz trio that entertained us during dinner. After dinner, it turned to a DJ who didn't take requests and had his own playlist in mind. Exploring the ship, that was a lot of fun. I would like to go back during the day time just to see things and read through the historical information. It's kind of hard when you're in a work group and everyone is all over the place chasing ghosts. I would like to visit the jazz bar on the ship - it looked simply amazing and felt like being transported to a different era. Haunted? Probably. I did feel a heaviness in my stomach when I went to the restroom. Fortunately, it went away when we left our event. If anything, I hope it enjoyed my dancing. read more

The Queen Mary, a talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping historic part of Los Angeles County history in the city of Long Beach. It's a multi-level massive 18 level deck ship meet museum meet hotel, meet plethora of eateries, activities and sites. At 1,019 feet long, the RMS QM might be the adventure you never knew you needed. I haven't been here since I can't even remember when, a solid 10+ years, but definitely been aboard a few times, though it felt like a brand new experience exploring the ship, even getting mixed in briefly with a tour group or two between lunch at the Promenade Cafe, running into a group a guys we knew leaving brunch. They do their best to upkeep and maintain, while preserving the structure, but it's definitely a long haul slow and steady journey. Parking can be validated at many of the places including the buffet and some places do require a deposit/pre-pay to enjoy. Areas that are prohibited and/or non-passenger friendly are labeled and/or sectioned off for public access. Noticeable wear and tear or damage to steps and certain areas on the upper open air decks are chained for safety. You can see so many viewpoints from all over the ship. Lots of amazing rooms throughout including the game room, book store and chambers of former crew members of the past. It's pretty amazing to see where people lived way back when. One of the showers with four or five different levers and knobs really had me pondering what that was like. Is one for soaping? Lol #VintageVibin Grateful for the free Wi-Fi throughout the ship, public restrooms, validation for parking and attentiveness of most of the staff. Currently you can experience the the Queen Mary's Dark Harbor VIP Package for an overnight stay as well as enjoy their haunting seasonal experience which is always a spooky treat. We didn't have any cocktails or beverages of the abv variety, but did enjoy some alcohol free libations, a meal and of course our visit to the QM. If staying in the hotel they have reasonable rates, winter seems to be the best deal, especially December. Might consider a 40th birthday celebration here for sure... Though I know the amenities are sparse. Sunday Funday brunch is from 10:00AM - 2:00PM in the Salon on the R-Deck and they have a lot of variety. It's a but pricey, but does include a complimentary glass of sparkling as well as parking. Observation Bar, was/is one of my favorite places to explore, but so is most of the Promenade deck. Serving up awesome events, attractions, photo ops, history/herstory, dining experience and delicious beverages as a permanent retired Royal Mail Ship since the late 60s (1967). read more

A ship, museum, and a hotel all in one and then some? I'm honestly not sure I can start off any other review like that! Super belated review, but my visit was in late June thanks to a volunteer opportunity that was held there. Two of the perks were free admission, normally ~$45 I was told, and free parking, which would have been ~$27 for the whole day. I shudder to think how much it would cost to spend even one night there, especially if I had dined at one of the eateries there. Actually, I did get some lunch at Midship Marketplace, one of the eateries on the ship, between my volunteer shifts; however, that cafe was nothing more than a tourist trap. ~$20 for a turkey sandwich and a small iced coffee?! Luckily, that was the only money I spent that day on the Queen Mary, and it's certainly not often when someone can say they spent less than an Andrew Jackson in one day on the Queen Mary. I could have purchased some gifts at one of the various shops they have inside the Queen Mary, but I was more focused on snapping photos, knowing this was my one opportunity to visit the ship at no cost. There are a multitude of entry points into the ship with a gangway leading into each deck. It's real easy to get lost, and even if you had the full day blocked off for exploring the ship, you may not be able to see everything they have! At least, until your phone battery dies. I tried to stay as long as I could, but once dinner hours started (5 PM each day of the week), my phone battery was at 20% after snapping several hundred photos. Besides Midship Marketplace, the other eateries on the Queen Mary are the Observation Bar, Chelsea Chowder House & Bar, Promenade Cafe, and a Royal Sunday Brunch, which wouldn't have worked for me since I went on a Friday. I was looking around for lunch options that day, and the only options besides the tourist trap of a Starbucks cafe was the Observation Bar and the Promenade Cafe. It's worth noting that had I gone on any other weekday, the Observation Bar wouldn't have even been a lunch option, but even so, their only eats are small bites. Since I had an afternoon shift to get to, I wasn't sure how fast service would be at the Promenade Cafe, so I had no other choice, unfortunately. Restrooms are a plenty inside the ship, but watch your step! For some restrooms, you actually have to step up into the room, so you can't just roll right through the door; otherwise, you will fall flat on your face. There are four gift shops inside the Queen Mary: Portside Marketplace, Piccadilly Delights, J.T. Jones Bookstore, and STACKS Aboard the Queen Mary. The first three are located quite close to one another in the Main Hall on the Promenade Deck. The STACKS store is in the A-Deck, aloof from the first three. The Queen's Landing is another option for a gift shop, but that's outside of the Queen Mary. I didn't go inside that one, but I'm sure they have a nice selection of Queen Mary merch available for purchase. Throughout the ship, you will see tour guides giving tours to groups of attendees. I didn't go on any of the tours since it would have cost quite a bit, even with a discounted rate for a volunteer, and I would have wanted to explore on my own terms anyways. There are several options for tours on the Queen Mary, and they are no less than an hour long. Remember how I said it was easy to get lost? I was hoping to explore the Cunard Story exhibit, which I found shortly before my afternoon volunteer shift. However, it took me almost an hour to find it again! I remembered it being on an upper deck, but since the upper deck had a multitude of levels, each of which can only be accessed via a certain stairwell, I couldn't remember how I found it the first time! And the directions got a little confusing too even though they do have ample signage directing patrons to certain parts of the ship. The Cunard Story exhibit is one exhibit you must see during your stay on this ship! And the other exhibits are definitely worth visiting as well! It's hard to name a favorite exhibit because they're all good in their own ways! Even on the Promenade Deck, there are a bunch of artifacts on display, including a historical piano, which can't be played, unfortunately, but understandably. Throughout the ship, there will be photos and even exhibits of rooms that were in use while the ship was in operation, so you'll know what first class was like back then. Although it's all the way on the far end of the ship, the Engine Room is quite a maze in and of itself that you can't help but wonder how they figured out how all that machinery worked together to make the ship run. At least at the time of my visit, the room can only be accessed via multiple stairwells. That was one of the last exhibits I visited before my phone battery got too low, and my legs/feet were getting pretty tired too, especially while navigating the labyrinth of Queen Mary's engine. My review is long overdue. My colleagues and I came here last year for a farewell get-together for one of our coworkers and we all enjoyed it very much. We all signed up online for the bar to have the free entry to the Queen Mary, so you can basically see all the general areas of the ship but to really get to learn about the ship you need to book tours. However, it was enough for all of us as we wandered around the ship and enjoyed ourselves very much. They also have a nice giftshop which I really want to go back to check out. Next time I would come earlier in order to see more of what the ship had to offer. read more

The service has gone down in the last few years. We stay here a lot to utilize the ease of transferring to our cruises. This last stay we checked in at 6pm and the receptionist told us "there is an event and your room is close to it, so you may hear music. But don't worry, it's over at 10pm and we have a ship wide quiet time of 10pm so it'll quiet down if so. At 10:45 the party which was "queer Latin dance night" was still reverberating through the sole thin wooden panel that separated our room from it. Music, screaming and cursing like the people were IN my room. I finally sought the front desk for help and was told the receptionist knew the party went till midnight and stuck us next to it anyway. They offered to move us to a room half the size with one bed and a roll in. I had a two bedroom suite! I declined the roll in bed room and they magically found a room with two twin. Fine just move me...it's now almost 11pm and I'm exhausted! They moved us, we packed up and switched at 11pm and the room we got to was TINY and hot as balls because it was 102 that day out and the windows were shut. I asked for a fan that never came. They also switched us to a lesser, teeny room from a two bedroom and did not refund me the difference when the switch was made. I had to go back later and inquire where I was nonchalantly told "yes there's a price difference? Want me to apply that to your bill?" Uh, YES...that should've been a given, but they waited for me to ask and if I hadn't, they would've just kept my money. I eventually asked for a manager but it was a terrible experience and I felt like staff knew how to accommodate us for the trouble but they made it MY job to do the foot work. Speak up about noise, speak up about the refund I was owed, speak up about the fan and then never get it. The rooms are getting dirtier by the year. It's a really cool, really old ship so old is expected and it's part of the experience but I feel the staff just don't clean and then play it off as "old boat charm." We won't be staying here again and that is sad. Time to move on! For the insane price of the Queen Mary I'll choose a modern option that is clean and staff actually care about patrons. read more

We enjoyed this tour. Chris was our haunted tour guide. I really did not know much about The Queen Mary, let alone the haunted stories. Our tour started 11:30. It was an hour tour and we got maybe 15 mins extra. The ship is a huge, bigger than the Titanic. You learn some history of the ship itself in the beginning of the tour. After the tour, you are able to walk around the ship. We stayed about 4 more hrs. Even went to the Observatory Bar for cocktails and a beer. So many things to see from the engine room, captain's quarters, isolation area, random decks. There are bathrooms all over. This was a Sunday so there was brunch happening and people staying in the hotel portion of the ship. I do not want to spoil it for anyone but if you like creepy stuff. Long dark corridors, darks stairwell areas. We even got to see the very front of the ship called the rope area. It was dark and scary. This tour is good but the evening paranormal ones are probably my even better. Maybe, even Halloween season. When you first get to area, make sure to grab a ticket and bring it with you. If you dine or have drinks, they validate so parking would be $15 rather than $25. I would also recommend getting your tickets off of AAA (if you're a member). Decided to stay at the historic Queen Mary for a night before leaving on a cruise, it felt both appropriate and I was crossing a bucketless must off my list. I will start with the good, the staff is incredibly friendly, accommodating and seems to genuinely understand hospitality. Even when an incident that I will talk about it the bads happened they were accommodating and friendly. Additionally, there are parts of the ship that truly still demonstrate the glamor of a forgotten age in ocean liner history, the small exhibits some furnishings that are touches here that take you back. The food at the chowder house well expensive is quite delicious and both the wait staff and the bartenders are friendly. Now for the bad, vast areas of the ship have been left to the ravages of time. Untouched unfixed unpainted just left to rot. Even surfaces in areas where guests are sure to visit like the bow of the ship, there's unpainted rusted, chipped paint and splintering plywood everywhere. Wow! All three members of my party booked the same class room, what we got were three very different rooms, it felt almost very Goldilocks with one room being too big. One room being too small and one room being just about right. However, my room had mysterious yellow brown wet spots seeping up through the carpet, I discovered this at almost midnight and so had to be moved to another room, the room they moved me to was even smaller than my original room and had a bathroom so small that when I tried to open the door it hit the toilet. And then there's the little matter of temperature control, the rooms themselves have no HVAC, but you can open the portal windows, which would be lovely if not for the fact that there is nearly no airflow at least on the side of the ship where I was, And more than a dozen insects decided that my open windows were an invitation to party in my room. Then given the proximity to the port, because I had my windows open, I was awoken at 6:15 a.m. to the sounds of shipping containers and little bells and alarms. I think this hotel has Great value and great potential but at a price point of over $300 a night putting it well into the luxury category, it needs help. To be totally transparent, I will be coming back here. We only booked one night and there's so much more to the ship. I want to explore and see I want to do the tours. I want to do some of their events including their murder mystery dinner. There's so much here, that I truly do think it's worth experiencing, however, I also think it's worth experiencing with your eyes open to what the experience will be. If you're expecting a luxury hotel with luxury amenities and luxury finishings, you are not getting that here, what you are getting is a view of history that may someday go away so enjoy it while it's here. read more

I was underwhelmed by the $20.00 general tour. Before going I'll admit as a Californian I didn't really have much knowledge about the Queen Mary other than it's location. I learned during the tour that Queen Mary was purchased by the City of Long Beach in 1967 from England and has stayed put ever since. I felt the tour, however, led us to believe that the boat was pretty much in tact and restored over the years. But as I kept asking the tour guide questions I learned that wasn't the case. The ship was basically gutted after purchase and converted to a hotel. So I felt, overall, the tour lacked authenticity. The Queen Mary has had, from what I understand, most of the original artwork restored, such as the Unicorns in Battle, but the salons and other main areas have been recreated. Of course the ship is legendary on many levels and served many crossings, as the tour guide referred to, from England to America, so it is worth going to pay respects, so to speak. But understanding most of the inside has been recreated. Also the tour guide gave some answers to some of my questions that just didn't seem that accurate. read more

Tried to book a room and was turned away. It was a little after 11pm but getting through to the front desk was a really tough thing. No one answered the phone after it said 15 second wait for several minutes. But the most upsetting thing was online it showed room available but the front desk folks were not very polite at all and very dismissive. read more

The Queen Mary is back after waiting forever for them to open back up after COVID. I believe the only way to get here is through the 710-S. It's around $50 per adult for general entry; however the secret to enjoying the Queen Mary on budget is reserving your spot at any of their restaurants. My friends and I only had to pay for $10 parking (after redeeming our ticket at one of the bars we enjoyed) and got to explore the Queen Mary after we were done eating. Definitely a beautiful ship with lots of history and you can book tours and overnight stays as well. read more

On each floor, there are two rooms right by the elevator. You can only imagine the level of noise this causes. I called in, spoke to Heather, told her I was celebrating my birthday. Got on just fine on the phone. And to see what I was going to wake up for my birthday in made me extremely emotional. We tried laying down for bed at 1130pm. Noise was so unbearable and loud that we had to pack up and leave. 11 hours of wtf. Not only did the staff ignore that a birthday was being celebrated, they actually place people in rooms right next to the elevators and entry way into the ship so you're heading the tires of luggage on the beaded floor. It was an absolute DISASTER. Mind you, they are banking! They are giving tours well into 1-2am and nothing is updated. A sweater costs $80 but the rooms have plastic drawer handles that haven't been cleaned. The walls haven't been cleaned. The light switches haven't been clean. It's a shame, really. As a historian I came thinking I'd see something restored or at least presentable. Our Delux room was filthy. read more

Overall: 3.5/5 rounded up to 4. There is work to be done but this is still an incredible ship and positive movement is happening. HOTEL: 2/5 Wasn't what I expected, unfortunately. The Deluxe Staterooms show original wood paneling on the site and we got a cabin with barely any. The room was clean but that was kind of a sad beginning. In addition, there aren't many open areas for exploration for hotel guests. I think they should make the 3rd class garden lounge, 2nd class lounge, or another room a room for hotel guests. If they can't refurbish the first class pool, they could build an outdoor pool on the deck (like Queen Elizabeth I had during the end of its run) TOURS: 4/5 This review pertains to the tours my fiancé and I took on the Queen Mary: Glory Days (1 hr), Paranormal Ship Walk (2 hrs), and VIP (3 hrs + 1 hr lunch). First off, we have been huge fans of the ship our whole lives but unfortunately live on the other side of the country so this was our first opportunity to explore. We stayed on the ship and even took engagement photos on the ship in addition to the tours. My goal, above all else, was to see every room I possibly could. First off, some general thoughts. Management has been doing a decent job overall with bringing the ship back to its former glory. Very happy to see Unicorns in Battle restored in the 1st Class Main Lounge, and the Madonna returned to the First Class Drawing Room (now art gallery, a great idea). Love seeing a bookstore back and period accurate candy shop in the Main Hall for shopping also. The Shipyard being transformed into the Embarkation Lounge for tours is a much smarter use of that space. However, one area that I think would help not just from a historical perspective but a business / events perspective is restoring the original furniture, reupholstering, and then returning what's possible to the ship lounges. Not necessarily for general public use, but for hotel guests and for showing off the spaces for events/meetings. From what I understand there is original furniture just piled up in storage areas around the ship. Refurbish what we can, and recreate what we need to. I could see the Second Class Main Lounge or Third Class Garden Lounge for example used as a gathering place for hotel guests. Let's start with Glory Days. Paul did a great job of giving a short history and keeping things moving. We started in the embarkation lounge and then went to the Second Class Smoking Room (now-Chapel). This was the only time during my stay that I was able to access this room, so for that reason alone it was a win. We also saw the Main Lounge and First Class Smoking Room. Next let's cover the Paranormal Ship Walk. While I'm not really into the paranormal stuff, my fiancé is. However this was a hidden gem for me because Jared our guide allowed us access to multiple rooms I only got to see in this tour as it was a small group. We went to Sir Winston's, a rare treat as it's been closed since pre Covid. Jared also let us check out maybe my favorite room on the entire ship the Verandah Grill. We also stopped by the Second Class main lounge and third class garden lounge. The best parts though were lower on the ship, the Third Class Purser's office / lobby, swimming pool, engine room, and converted speakeasy. We were able to take videos and look at the pool although we were restricted to a small area due to the structural integrity issues. We did see B340, not really my thing but people liked it. Finally I took the VIP Tour with Captain James and both Officer Pauls. Again we were able to access a few areas you can't access elsewhere like the Captain's Quarters. Captain James is a real character, very theatrical and hilarious. We got to see the main lounge and the swimming pool and engine room. Unfortunately many rooms were blocked off due to events, which was unfortunate, and I recommend that there's a blackout period to allow for the VIP tours. Maybe the VIP tours could be at a time where there aren't as many events. Luckily I was able to see many rooms on the Paranormal Ship Walk. I also thought the lunch at the end was extremely cool and I got to talk to Captain James and ask him some questions about what's coming next. Overall, it was a cool experience but I'm hoping the management considers refurbishing more areas and furnishing some more of the lounges in future! read more

If you love history, this is a great spot to come to for a day or even a few days. The Queen Mary is very well known ship that is supposedly haunted. My wife and I stayed on the ship, but we did not encounter any haunted activity. The ghost tour was fun, the restaurants are good and the overall experience was great. Visiting the Queen Mary is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. One thing I appreciated right away was the clear signage and directions for parking across their various venues. Such a small but underrated win in L.A. The downside: the tours aren't exactly budget-friendly. But on the bright side, there are some walk-in spots available. Still, I'd recommend making a reservation if you're not in the mood to take a chance and disappoint your kids or your date. I visited for a special event and was genuinely impressed by the restoration work. If you're a fan of historic architecture or marvel at old-school engineering, this place is a goldmine. It's like stepping inside a floating time capsule. Every corner reveals a thoughtful detail, a carefully framed photograph, or an echo of the past. It's as if you're walking in a story line. The staff were friendly. The vibe was chill which matched the port breeze. I loved seeing a few cafes and chairs scattered throughout the ship. It makes the whole experience feel more relaxed and welcoming. I didn't get a chance to visit the Observation Bar, but word is the drinks are solid and reasonably priced. Bonus: a lot of the wood throughout the ship is still original, which adds an extra layer of charm. You don't have to do a tour to enjoy the visit either. Much of the ship is open to the public, making it a great spot for a casual stroll or even a low-key, atmospheric date. If you're new in town or playing tourist for the day, the Queen Mary is one of those iconic, only-in-L.A. experiences that manages to be both historic and surprisingly endearing. read more
