I must've tried a half dozen different flavors before I settled on the Almond Joy and was I glad! It was unctuous chock-full of coconut chocolate and almonds. My grandson and I are both lactose intolerant. It is very difficult to find "real" ice cream or at least lactose free ice creams that still taste good. The best you can do in most places is either sorbet or vanilla. Beacon Creamery had four lactose free flavors and we tried the pistachio, which was really good. Probably more like a 3.5, given that it's pricey. $4.50 for one scoop! You can get Jane's Homemade Ice Cream here, but it's not the best ever (sure tastes good on a summer afternoon though). They have flavors like chai latte, ginger, green tea, killer chocolate, and the normal vanilla, strawberry, and mint chocolate chip. They also have alcoholic flavors. Also, they don't put up their flavors anywhere so it could take a while to look through what they have, especially if you're particularly indecisive. The people are friendly and limit you to two tastings to keep the line moving. Because of its prime location, the place can get quite crowded. It's a small place with just a couple tables and a bench outside, but you can always take it out and stroll along main street. read more

It definitely tasted like homemade decadent ice cream, but the lady serving us was not as sweet. My boyfriend and I were deciding on what pint to get, and we both ordered our pints separately, yet she made a comment under her breath about us just ordering two instead of separately. Which we did not because we had yet to decide on flavors, and coincidentally chose the same one. It was not very professional. Beacon Creamery is one of those treasures you stumble upon that is so good you can't believe your luck. It has so many interesting and tasty sounding flavors that you'll likely be paralyzed by indecision. For example, it has chocolate cabernet (a whole wine flavor ice cream list!), lavender, cappuccino kahlua, a mintsummer's night dream, etc. I loved my cappuccino kahlua which had a very strong coffee taste to it. I also tried the grapefruit sorbet which really tasted like grapefruit and was very refreshing. The staff here were so friendly and clearly pretty happy to be working there. Our server also was so good about letting us try multiple flavors. I initially made it a point to stop here my first time in Beacon because of the impeccable reviews about the unique flavors. Needless to say, Beacon Creamery has unique flavors of ice cream that taste good. I like that their ice cream isn't too sweet in comparison to the artisan ice cream I've tried near home. In fact, I like it so much, I keep forgetting to take pictures for Yelp of my ice cream! The most recent time I was there, I had the currants and cream flavor. I loved the sharp contrast of the tangy currant in conjunction with the smooth, richness of the vanilla. I've also had the lavender ice cream prior, which I found to be impressive as well. I am the most impressed by the wine ice cream, the cherry merlot being my favorite. I've never seen or had wine ice cream until coming here, so I found this to be the most unique. Their wine ice creams typically have the initial flavor with the wine aftertaste. With the cherry merlot, you first taste the cherry ice cream and the chunks of dried cherry and then the subtle and smooth flavor of the merlot directly afterwards. It's a bit of a sophisticated flavor, but I guess that's the point. I'm taking away one star because I think it's overpriced and it closes at 8pm. I had lost all hope until I stumbled across this place. I have been here in the orange county area a little over one month now, and I can tell you that I have had a ice cream at different places at least once to twice a week. But it had gotten to the point that everything seemed so disappointing that I had given up and just started purchasing your everyday brands inside the grocery store. BUT then one day while out and about doing my usual a friend took me to this place and Oh My, I was so happy. They have some of your traditional flavors and them some harder to find. And I love the mix of new and old for example they had rocky road but then there was a Lavender flavor, dulce de leche, apricot peach (I think) chocolate, green tea, ginger and some others that I cant remember. But i got lavender and dulce de leche with little chunks of the caramel swirled inside. I live on the other side of the Hudson but no toll will stop me from returning to this place!! read more

Was walking down Main street craving ice cream when all of a sudden a wild creamery appears! And a good one at that! A solid selection of flavors spread out with tastings available. Only one man behind the counter, but it's not really an area for an ice cream parlor to be busy. Immediately got the peanut butter cup option on a small cone ($3). Creamy with plenty of pb cups inside for a good crunch. Really hit the spot. Not the greatest ice cream I've had, but the price was perfect. Will go back if I'm ever in Beacon again. read more

We stopped in for dessert after dinner at a nearby restaurant. The exterior was charming, with a sign advertising 32 flavors. Upon entering we found one whole freezer case closed up, so only 16 flavors (it was more than an hour before closing, so this was puzzling ). I ordered a waffle cone of the almond joy. The inside of the shop was not very inviting so we sat outside on a bench to watch the sunset. The ice cream had a good consistency and the portion was good, but I could taste almost no coconut flavor. The waffle come was also clearly from a box, not store-made. I had an intense chocolate served in a wafer cone, although I had to ask for one because they don't normally give them out to adults (only for the kiddie size). The regular size with the waffle cone just seemed like too much for me, and I was satisfied with the smaller size. A little pricey to be honest ($4.50 for a regular sized cone with no smaller option for adults), but if you're really into ice cream I recommend it. Was in the area for a special annual event; so while poking around the surrounding areas, came across this yummy place!! Was planning to connect with some very good friends for dinner, so I did a sampling of some of their flavors on my first visit. Later that night, came back with some of my friends, so they could try the tasty flavors out also. The next night, we came back to test some more of the cold and creamy deliciousness! This place has some REALLY GOOD ice cream!! They've got some of the typical flavors, but then they've got some "other" flavors...that you will need to show proof that you're 21yrs or older. This may seem strange, but they're very good. They've got some wine flavored ice creams..again may sound strange...you've got to try them to understand. Also they've got their own twist on milkshakes..again 21yrs & older.. some flavors: Piña Colada, Mudslide, White Russian, Kaluha & a few others...they're creamy w/a shot of liqueur...DEFINITELY YUMMY!! After walking back to Main Street from Dia:Beacon, I only had one thing on my mind: ice cream! This cute little shop is located right at the beginning of Main Street, so if there's no seats inside, you can definitely take your ice cream to go and eat as you browse the stores along Main Street. They allow up to two tastings of ice cream, so I tried the Lavender and the Cappuccino Kahlua flavors. The lavender was kind of boring, sweet with a hint of floral. The cappuccino was great, there was tiny pieces of coffee beans in it, I think, because it was crunchy. However, I decided to get a single scoop of their pumpkin flavor because I hadn't tried pumpkin ice cream before. It tastes good, but I wish it could have had a stronger pumpkin taste. It just tasted like a light mix of vanilla and cinnamon. The staff were all super duper nice and helpful, which I really appreciated.
