It's a great place to go with friends or on a date and to bring out of town guests, but it wouldn't be my regular go-to spot because it's pricey and they only have small bites. I suggest catching the sunset there, having a drink, and then hitting up somewhere else nearby for dinner. Craft cocktails are pretty good but not my favorite cocktails in the area. Came here to grab a few drinks before dinner! I made a reservation but we were running behind due to traffic from the hockey game and they were totally understanding and held our table with no issue. I almost feel like people purposely write these to sabotage this amazing new roof-top lounge on 27th floor of JW Marriott with gorgeous views and superb service! I recently celebrated my birthday at BEACON and the entire team went above and beyond - from the moment we arrived to the time we left. Our original reservation was outside, but due to strong winds I knew we would get cold so the hostess quickly accommodated us and moved us inside with no fuss. Ambiance is so unique at this vibrant place. Drinks: 'Pistoles at Dawn' and 'Sage Before Beauty' were absolutely fantastic. As for the bites we opted in for Shrimp Figueroa, Medjool Dates, Fig & Pig, Compressed Watermelon and Heritage Tomato. Every single dish was so fresh, with seasonal ingredients so amazingly paired together, cheeses were high quality, and the bread was chef's kiss. Meckal, our server, accommodated us in every way possible, provided great recommendations and offered a complimentary dessert or a glass of champagne to toast for my birthday. Not every restaurant does anything for birthdays and the fact that not only do they offer a dessert of your choice, but also a drink as alternative option is pretty impressive in my opinion. The cherry on top was that the Chef Roy Bryant, came out with my dessert and a candle - Meyer Lemon Tiramisu. The tiramisu was incredible and very special with the lemon twist. The Chef sat with us and chatted for a bit to make sure we had an elevated experience. What a treat from the Chef/team - thank you!!! My husband and I are very particular about the quality of service we receive and more so - the quality of food. I have mixed feelings about this place. I was excited to meet up with friends here for a fun ladies' night. We received a text message with specific dress code details earlier in the day, and we all dressed for the occasion. When I got there I learned that parking on site was going to cost $50.00...YIKES! So I drove around and found a spot on the street ($8.00 for 3 hours), thus missing the sunset and then getting lost trying to find my way. For those of you like me who may not know , there is a Marriott and a 'JW' Marriott. They are right across the street from each other, and connected by a bridge on the third floor. If you go into the wrong Marriott, you'll be directed to the bridge, and when you get across, you'll be completely lost because there's either poor or no signage... I walked down a long hallway, then in circles, then headed back over the bridge and and almost straight back to my car. Thankfully, my friend urged me not to give up. When I finally made it up to the Beacon, it was quite busy. The teal decor, fake plants, and cushioned seating around the bar reminded me of clubs I frequented in Miami Beach in the 90s. The place was busy and filled with people who'd paid no mind to dress code...hats, backward hats, jeans, sneakers, and even yoga pants! That was a little annoying (I'd planned to wear jeans until we received that text). I will say that the drinks were very good, and the service was fairly decent. We ordered eight different small plates, and none of them were strikingly amazing, but they were good. For each plate, I could think of a similar plate elsewhere that was better. I liked the pomme pave and the tiramisu the most, and I would not recommend the compressed watermelon. The medjool dates received mixed reviews from us, and again I thought of a similar dish elsewhere that was simpler yet better. If you decide to go, plan to spend about $125.00 per person for two hours of drinks and small bites, and you'll likely leave hungry. And remember, that does not include parking. Still, I would visit again in a quiet weeknight for one or two drinks to watch the sunset, and see the gorgeous views of Tampa. read more

Come for the vibes and the view. Vibes? Immaculate. View? Unmatched. Cocktails? Expensive Food? Delicious. It's exactly the experience you'd want to have at a rooftop exclusive. The small plates were varied and flavorful. My party selected the bao, pomme pavé, and the fig and pig (? I think was the name, it was rhyme-y and definitely figs were involved, also prosciutto). The bao was surprisingly spicy! I believe they use a Thai red chili and it packs a punch for a little thing. Crispy pork belly and pickled veg seat neatly in the perfectly steamed buns. Sweet, tangy, spicy: everything you want from a bao bun. Pomme pavé was highly recommended and I am glad we got them. But when I say these plates are small bites, well, this one was particularly small. However, I understand it to be because of the care and precision worked into every bite of these elevated potatoes. The fig and pig was crunchy, sweet, savory, warm and gooey. Comes on their house made sourdough. Don't miss this one!!! You'll regret it. The Meyer lemon tiramisu was not at all Tiramisu but don't hold that against the dish- so worth it. Just the barest hint of lemon under a sweet cookie topping and above an airy custard layer. The cocktails were playful and balanced, though as noted, kinda pricy. You're paying for the vibes and view in a prime location, though. And the quality is 100% there. Strong pours, as well. The service was, as with the rest of the experience, incomparable. Friendly and completely attentive without hovering or being pushy. We were able to enjoy our plates and drinks without feeling rushed out or anything if the sort. Notes: you need to put a card on file for reservations and you are charged for no shows. The rez blocks are like three hours long so you are expected to relax and enjoy and take in the beautiful view. They know you're paying for it and they make it worth your while. read more

The cocktails are artfully crafted and delicious. Expectedly priced for a hotel bar in this location (around $20 each). The bites are DELICIOUS and although unique in flavors and textures, still pleased my picky eater girlfriend. Between the two of us we shared a salad (watermelon), the pork buns, pomme pave and the lemon tiramisu - plenty for the two of us, but my husband would have left starving at the tapas-style portions (don't come starving). The staff all seemed to be a younger crowd, but they were all fun and upbeat, as well as professional and knowledgeable. Our server's recommendations were on point, the bar staff were attentive and friendly, and the desk staff were accommodating and helpful. Our one big complaint was parking. I expected to pay around $20+ tip for parking with validation from the restaurant. However, apparently there was a concert going on at Amalie and they were charging $50 to park! With validation it was $25, but only for 3 hours. We had to cut our evening short and practically run downstairs after calling to confirm the limit was 3 hours or we'd be charged $50 per vehicle. I'm a sucker for a nice rooftop, and this one is so fab! They could definitely improve the interior space with better acoustics, but overall, it's a good time. Service was a little slow, but the staff is super friendly. I think they could offer more variety for food that's not super pricey. The pork belly bao buns were pretty tasty though! My favorite drinks are the Wishing Well and Dastardly Devil. We also got a delicious dessert on the house for my husband's birthday, and it was scrumptious! What a fiasco, Beacon. We had a bachelorette party reservation for one of your private rooms, once we all arrived, we were brought OUTSIDE , when it was very cold! Sat us outside in the corner with broken lights- aka no lights. When i asked if we would be able to move inside at some point if we were cold, the guys just shrug his shoulders and said "we will try"... So, you cancel the inside reservation- no warning, no apology, no alternative seating inside. What could have been a fun long $$$ night with lots of drinks and food turned into 8 girls leaving after having one drink, which took forever to arrive anyways. Our waitress was sweet but overwhelmed. This is not my first time at Beacon and I am unimpressed - not to mention fists while ordering cocktails, we were told none of the cocktails are available under the certain section... I am also unimpressed with cocktails , tried numerous, and they are nothing special, in fact, I can make a better margarita at home any time. I was able to visit this rooftop bar/restaurant in September and my experience was great. We arrived shortly after 10pm. Amazing views, great live music playing, amazing drinks, and delicious food. I would totally visit again. It's wise to make a reservation before arriving. We saw a few people get turned away due to not having one. The waiter was very attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and provided quick service. I cannot recall the drinks that we ordered, and it seems like the menu changes every so often. I love that they change the menu, it makes it for a fun and new experience every time you visit. The drinks were all very good. We also sampled multiple bites. We tried the steamed buns, pomme pave, fig and pig, foie gras pate. They were all tasty, very interesting and unique combination of flavors. I would definitely order the steamed buns again. The flavor profile and spices combined with this juicy pork belly was amazing. Overall I really did enjoy my night out. The spot definitely offers a wow factor. My reasoning for the 4 stars: for the cost of everything I would expect to be wowed by the food. Michael B. was extremely accommodating, first by making room for our group, which was an additional couple than the reservation, and again by moving us from outside to premium seating indoors after a minor inconvenience. He was more than happy to change the music for us as well. It fell short of five stars due to the hosting and bartending staff not meeting up to the typical JW Marriott standards. Went for the tea last Saturday. Had a 1:45 reservation. Had put that we were celebrating 3 birthdays, no mention of it. Worst part was that we were there for 1hour and 20 minutes and no food came. Server brought water for the tea and then we had to ask for spoons and sugar. When questioned about why the food was taking so long... the server and manager both said "the kitchen is backed up". Worst experience ever. Nice view but poor management. We had to go downstairs to eat at the bar at 3:30pm after being there since 1:40. Don't go unless you want to be very disappointed. read more

So I will start by saying the view is spectacular, decor was great (minus tv's-instead of real art) and overall ambiance was fantastic. My waitress Cash was also very pleasant and responsive. We were seated on the terrace which to me was the whole point, but I was pleasantly surprised that even sitting inside you had great views. My complaints: -Terrace needs ceiling fans, this is Florida and it's hot even when it's cool. (Same goes for SIX downstairs) Especially, when the environment means men are in slacks, I got uncomfortable. -I was not in love with the food, neither was my group and the food menu did adequately describe exactly what you were ordering. Food menu should have some more simple items as well. -You were out of both a wine and a required ingredient on your cocktail menu. My friend had to reorder twice as a result. -Only having hand blowers in a restroom is not acceptable for the caliber of venue you are. There should be quality paper towelette's, along with Kleenex in the men's room. - Lastly, The reservation system (tenrooms) is cumbersome. Opentable is so much easier for guest to use and everyone already has it on their phones. I will go back, but hope to see some changes. I asked to be sat outside on the balcony. The view was to die for. But the only thing I liked, was the view. The menu had moreso hors d'oeuvres vs actual meals. I did not know what anything was on the menu to be quite honest. I tried two things which were both $21. Not to mention the $6 bottle of water. My server did not specify I'd be getting a bottle of water or else I would have never gotten water. I got a drink, the pink one with coconut shavings (I think) on it. I didn't like it. Very tart with an after taste. I got another drink, I forgot the name but that wasn't good either. That was $16. The food was not my style at all. I personally didn't like anything other than the view. I have been wanting to try new things, and I'm happy I did, but I don't see myself coming back here honestly. I wasn't a fan. They sat us initially at an inside bar to the right that smelled like old bar stink and was dark with zero view. We then were moved to the other bar to the left of the elevator which was a little better, still no view. No vibe, no one seemed happy (patrons or bartenders), we stayed for one drink and went elsewhere.
