Came here briefly to get a quick came of pool in. There were 3 tables open that ran on quarters only. Luckily, there was a machine that converted cash into coins. We only had time to order one round of drinks which was a vodka soda with cranberry juice, not anything book worthy. We've been here twice and service has been really bad. Both times we had a group of about 6 so we were forced to tip the minimum 20% which was unfortunate considering we asked for waters maybe 5 times and never got them. Asked for sodas for two of our party and had to keep asking until they were finally brought over. (They also charged us for refills on soda). Wouldn't put the game on that we came to see as it was the official game day bar for our college. I've watched a game on that same tv before but they said they physically could not change the channel. Overall, our server showed no initiative to even do the basic things. She was busy chatting with her friend as someone in our party who doesn't drink alcohol was waiting forever to be served water. Very disappointing. read more

I went in to do the whole "have a cold Sam Adams across the street from a cold Sam Adams" joke, but ended up really enjoying the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's the perfect amount of sports bar and dive bar while still having a good amount of normal dining area. Started my experience with the nicest door guy ever! (Sarcasm) Greeted me with "ID!" I told him I was just there for dinner and that I'd just like a table, still not a grin cracked, stood there with his hand extended and no eye contact. Alrighty then! ...Lots of posters and in house advertisements for their "raw bar" items and seafood specials so I decided it must not be a terribly bad menu choice. I ordered the lobster roll, no price listed on the menu. The lobster roll consisted of soggy chunks of lobster meat that tasted like it has been thawed by soaking in a bathtub for a few days. It was so heavy on mayonnaise that you couldn't even taste the lobster. The French fries were served soggy and cold and Cole slaw was similar in comparison to the lobster salad....way too much mayo! Stopped in on our trip to Boston this week. In some research, I noticed that Beantown was on a culinary stop for baked beans, so I decided to seek this spot out and try them out. They are right off the Freedom Trail, so the location was very convenient and easy to find. They were super busy, but we managed to find a spot and were attended to right away. I only sampled the baked beans which came with two slices of brown round bread. The beans were VERY good, but down here in the south that would be a side dish and not a main event. I really wanted to like the brown bread, but something was a little "off" about it. It could have been the raisins that looked more like cherries, just not sure what that fruit was that was in it. The beer selection was good. They did have logo branded shirts, but they only came in sizes xs-xl. read more

Honestly I don't know why this place only has a 3 star rating. The beer is solid and the food was pretty good. Went on a Friday after waking the freedom tail looking for a bite and a beer. The selection of beer is not something you will get at a craft beer bar but they had Sam Adams and Harpoon on tap as well as some macro beers. Somrthi7for everyone. It was busy but the bartenders were considerate and pleasant to me and the other patrons. Now its the food that was the star. Not fancy, but comforting which is what I wanted. Fried pickles and nachos are what I live for and they were on the menu. Served with ranch dipping sauce, they were perfectly fried and seasoned. I have had many a fried pickle whose batter falls off at first bit but not these. The coating stayed out until the very last bite. Now for the nachos, again a solid dish. Only complaint was that they did not come with olives... What????? BUT they were nice enough to add them on for me. Try colored and salted tortilla chips and melty cheese layered though out I was in heaven. We did ask for chicken nachos but those failed to appear on the dish. It did not matter as I got all the protein I needed from the cheese. Right by Boston common it seems like a place where tourists and native Bostonians come after work as it's right by the Green line. This is a decent pub right on a busy street so it is packed. Lots of people in here for drinks and a few for lunch. I ordered the Hot dogs with fries and the dogs were good. The fries were okay. My date had the firecracker shrimp with cole slaw and they did not skimp on the shrimp. They were pretty tasty but not even remotely spicy. The slaw was okay. Our service was good. It's a pub. With Sam Adams brick red. You go here out of principle. I had lobster tacos and they were good. And I had two draft Sammy's (brick red) while I watched the red socks play. My bill was a little higher than I expected but I had good service and my food was good. The kitchen looks pretty busy and I got the impression most of our food was freshly made. I didn't see chef "mic" working in the back. My wife got baked beans and it looked like they were heated in a skillet. You're paying for the experience here. I always walk by here but never stopped in. The other night we walked to hard rock and decided to come back and try this place out. If you walk through the back there is a pool table and more seating when you loop around. The nachos were big and plentiful. The bacon cheddar tots were amazing. I am a little surprised at the low ratings! Stopped in for lunch and thought it was a great spot for lunch because of their sandwiches and burgers. The sandwiches were traditional - nothing made them "unique," but they were really tasty either way. I was happy with the BLT and chips. In my group, there was also a guacamole burger, turkey club, hotdogs, and the Paul Revere. Everyone left lunch full with no complaints. The establishment was clean and our service was perfectly fine. What can I say, this little dive bar has a cool vibe but service is really poor. They ignore patrons and fail to deliver service and drinks. Bar tenders are standing around and servers just seem to be busy running around without ever taking care of anyone. We tried to go to this bar with 6 friends and were told by the bouncer to "f*ck off". We called the owner to try and correct this bouncers actions and the owner said "you're the f*ucking problem, f*ck you" and hung up. I've never experienced such absurd behavior. Went to the Beantown with my friend Chuck and Larry. Once we walked in we were greeted by this big fella at the door. I got to talking to him and his name is Matt. He is a good guy, local guy. He recommended the Honey chicken sandwich. And boy was I glad he did! It was scrumptious! We had a few brewskis, they have a great selection. Of course I had to get a Sam Adams because Beantown Pub is the only place to drink a Sam Adams while looking across the street to his grave. Great Boston bar filled with friendly people. So this is the only place in Boston where you can get a Sam Adams while looking at Sam Adams! There is a graveyard right across that has Sam Adams buried ! While there are quite a few places in Boston to eat who all have amazing food I was a bit disappointed with this place. When you first walk in, it's almost like a whole in the wall type of vibe which I personally like. Usually those type of places are hidden gems and have the best food. My husband and I decided to sit at the bar. We both ordered a beer and I got the chicken wings and my husband got the chowder with the crab claws. Unfortunately, our food was below average. The chicken wings were supposed to be amazing at this place, but I didn't think they were. They were dry and had no flavor. I got the medium flavor wings with ranch. I love chicken wings and I always try my best to try them everywhere I go. I was just disappointed :( my husband wasn't a fan of the chowder at all. The chowder was a bit runny and compared to the other restaurants around this chowder was probably the least favorite. The crab claws....just don't do it. They had a "special" at the time we went and it wasn't worth it at all. They also had a very distinct taste - my husband was not pleased. I think maybe this place is better for people who maybe just want to grab a drink or beer. The beers we had were great, but the food not so much. read more
