Beantown Pub is a spacious, no frills restaurant serving seriously good, classic eats! I arrived around 1:30 PM on a Saturday. This is a self-seating establishment so we walked around twice to survey the available seating. Most of the tables were taken already so the atmosphere was very lively and bustling. We found a window seat and our waiter came to us promptly. We ordered the Beantown Baked Beans ($8.95 / served with two pieces of brown bread), Firecracker Shrimp ($14.95 / served with coleslaw and French fries), Lobster Roll (market price / served with French fries and coleslaw), and New England Fried Chicken ($15.95 / served with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and coleslaw). We also had two orange sodas (free refills!). The Beantown Baked Beans were just okay. I thought they were way too sweet! The brown bread it came with was surprisingly sweet and delicious, but doesn't taste that good when it's dipped in the bean gravy... :- ) The Firecracker Shrimp plate was an entree of its own! We thought it was an appetizer... whoops. It was super delicious. Each shrimp was breaded and fried to perfection and drizzled with a spicy aioli sauce. It tasted more tangy than spicy. I didn't try the Lobster Roll, but was told that everything tasted fresh with plenty of lobster chunks. My New England Fried Chicken was sooo good! The fried chicken piece was HUGE and the mashed potatoes were plentiful. I loved the crispy, perfectly seasoned exterior of the chicken. It paired so well with their homemade gravy. I was SO surprised the chicken maintained its texture despite the dampness of the gravy!!! The mashed potatoes were a bit chunky which I loved. Even the steamed broccoli was flavorful! I ended up taking some food to go because the portions were so massive. Despite Beantown Pub's wraparound interior, we still received stellar service from our waiter. The lunchtime bustle was wild but he was still able to tend to diners with grace and ease. Due to the constant bustle, some parts of the room weren't very clean. We arrived excited to drink and eat in this iconic pub. We ordered our food (burger chips and beans) and literally waited an hour. All while watching others come in order eat and leave. We tried to be nice to the server and she was apologetic but really two hours to get a burger. Only come her for a beer. If you expect more you will be sorely disappointed. read more

The cleanliness of the place is what almost turned us around at the door but it was raining and it was next to our hotel so we decided to sit and eat. In town for a week to visit Fenway Park. Boston is a frequent stop of mine, as it's my favorite park & city to visit. Been to Boston many times, and found Beantown Pub as it was close to my hotel. Very quick walk, and accessible. Came in from Friday night through Tuesday night. Busy on the weekend, slower weeknights. I was happy to find this place, because I live in Texas, where Yuengling is not yet available. Not need to find other bars, at this point. First four nights with the nicest of bartenders. I believe Megan is her name. Extremely sweet, and very courteous and nice each night. Originally an East Coast guy from Philly, I would make this my home bar if I lived here. It'll definitely be my "home bar" whenever I visit, no question. read more

You guys will enjoy this one. Showed up here for a company outing. They didn't have enough space for all of us so about 4 of us went to the bar. I spent the whole night dancing in and out of a bouncer's wrath since we were at the last booth before the pool tables. Food was solid, wait staff was good, but the bouncer tried to kick us out right after we stood up. We literally got up to give other people the table to be polite, and got shoved out and belittled by the bouncer in the corner. I tried to tell him we were patrons who just paid $200+ and he said he didn't care as we were forced out. I'll never be back, good luck with those bouncers. read more

Our server was fine, but didn't seem too happy to be working (it appeared the restaurant was understaffed). The chicken Caesar salad was fine. Went here for a very yummy breakfast sandwich. sausage eggs and cheese on an everything bagel. Two eggs is always a power move without needing to pay extra. The bagel was doughy and seasoned really well. For cheese I got cheddar which is the best (in my opinion). The sausage was so thick but I loved how there was always a ton of meat in every bite. My sweetheart and I (both of us senior citizens) had the good fortune of staying at the Kimpton Hotel which is right next door to the Beantown Pub. Arriving in Boston late in the day and feeling a tad pooped, we wandered into the Beantown Pub for a quick bite ... or so we thought. The place was jam-packed but we managed to snag a couple of seats at the bar. As for the food, we were impressed with the variety on the reasonably priced menu which offers something for everyone. With input from our waiter Ryan, we chose potato skins and deviled eggs. A quick pause here to mention that Ryan treated us like old friends, frequently making sure we were satisfied, if we needed anything, and always wearing a smile. It's worthwhile noting that the crowd was loud and friendly. One of the joys of travel is meeting with locals and fellow travelers, and Beantown Pub did not disappointment. In retrospect, we were no longer pooped but had the good fortune to be included in the comradery and be part of the crowd. By the time we left, we felt like we had made at least a dozen new friends. But back to the food ... lunch the following day (yes, we were hooked) included the honey fried chicken sandwich. On a scale of 1 to 10, we rate it a 25 ... SO beyond delicious. And on our third day (we couldn't stay away), fish and chips made the day. We couldn't walk out without buying ourselves T-shirts. Tomorrow is our last day in Boston when we'll finally get around to scarfing down baked beans. We can't wait. read more

A solid stop overall. Clam chowder was good but only barely warm which was a disappointment given how good it actually tasted. Decent service and the on tap beers were fresh. I'd give it a second chance as it had a good location and a good menu, but it should be treated as a bar with decent food more than a restaurant if anyone is on the fence in between the two. read more

We stopped here for brunch during vacation. The food was really good and the service was decent. The atmosphere is pool hall meets bar/coffee house. You seat yourself when you walk in and that part felt a bit confusing. Most times I am able to clearly identify if you should wait for a hostess or sit anywhere in a restaurant, but not during this visit. It felt as though we should wait to be seated, but no one ever came. Ultimately I walked up to a waitress who told us to take a seat and she would be right with us. However, she never came back and after finally asking a staff member who walked by what was going on, a different waiter came to take our order. As I stated above, the food was awesome. I ordered a bloody mary and a lobster benedict and would highly recommend both to anyone visiting! After the initial confusion was resolved the service was pretty decent for the remainder of our visit. I will say that there was remodeling/some type of working being done inside while we were dining so that may have had something to do with service being off. I have heard from other friends that they had great experiences from Beantown Pub, and overall I am happy to return for more lobster benedict the next time that we are in town! read more

Great spot for a quick bite while cruising through the Freedom Trail. My husband and I were starving, so we wanted to make a pit stop here. Enjoyed the hoppy blonde Beantown Ale and a BLT on rye bread. Pretty delicious and great portions served. Our bartender was very sweet and attentive. I wish I had the stomach for the stew but I wasn't ready to commit to a full and hearty entree. My husband ordered the Fenway Hot Dog, our expectations were high being that the rave about Boston and the Fenway Park hotdogs were not to be passed up. They might deserve three stars if they could pinpoint where that effing smell is coming from. Yuck, what the hell? I've always come with work folk and since we have a large group the service tends to be decent, nothing spectacular but not horrid either. Prices are on par with the million other pub/bars in the area but they have pool! Yes, that's about the one redeeming quality that seems to draw my office here. Sure we could go to one of the myriad bars in the area but why when we can bond over a game of pool in a cloud of mystery stink? I haven't eaten anything here aside from the hummus as most of the apps seem to be meaty but honestly the weird odor really kills the appetite so I'll stick to the booze thanks. Figure out what that stench is (oh, and get rid of it) and that third star is yours Beantown! read more

I'm torn between two and three stars for Beantown Pub. Beantown Pub has a great location and is very roomy inside, which makes it good for groups. They have a decent draft beer selection, and I was pretty shocked at how good the food was. Although Beantown Pub seems like it would serve terrible food, in fact my steak tip sandwich was cooked exactly as I ordered it and served on delicious chewy bread. The fries were thick, crispy outside, and soft inside. Not what I expected at all. They also serve food late (past 11 pm), after other venues in the area have closed their kitchens. Unfortunately going to Beantown Pub also means rubbing elbows with d-bags, being hit with blasts of cold air as people continually file in and out, and being deafened by truly horrible music. I also don't think they clean the beer taps well; more than once, I've had a metallic draft. I'll give Beantown Pub the third star for its ridiculous painting of patriots and geese hidden amongst the trees (see photo). read more
