Raffles Hotel has created quite a stir in Boston... and there's a lot to like. However, it still has a long way to go before it lives up to the standards and traditions of its famous Singapore namesake. Everything about Long Bar is impressive. The room is beautiful, the bar is stunning, the views are terrific, the chow is very good, and there is an effort being made to provide refined service. The problem? It's simply too popular. The crush of guests seems to be defeating what makes Raffles so special. On my visit, the experience felt nothing like the polished, attentive food and beverage service I enjoyed throughout Raffles Singapore. I'm sure things improve during quieter periods, but it's often, like on this visit, absolutely jammin'. We waited about 30 minutes for our table. While we enjoyed excellent cocktails and some very good food, the entire evening was marked by spotty service and long stretches of neglect. That's simply not what one expects at Raffles. Of course, I had to try their signature Boston Sling. I enjoyed it very much and actually preferred it to the sweeter Singapore Sling. The little snacks provided were a nice touch... very good and nicely presented. Food highlights included the Lobster Roll and the Kale & Quinoa Salad. It was nice of them to recognize my son's graduation with their Boston Cream Pie for dessert, which was excellent. The good news is that the solution seems obvious. The room, the food, the cocktails, and the setting are already in place. What Long Bar needs now is service that matches the reputation of the brand. The formula has existed for well over a century. All they have to do is ask themselves one simple question... "What would Raffles Singapore do?" read more

Amateur hour If Long Bar at Raffles Boston is aiming to be one of the city's "it" spots, it has a long way to go. Of course, they could make a play for the well to do youth of the city to fill the place; indeed that seems to be the play that Long Bar is making. Despite the attempt at upscale atmosphere, the space was packed wall‑to‑wall with people who looked like they'd wandered in from a college mixer, and the staff seemed completely uninterested in managing the crowd or delivering top service (given the Raffles name and the prices of the bar, that would be a nominal expectation). Despite having a confirmed reservation, we waited just shy of an hour to be seated--long enough that our actual dinner reservation next door arrived with 10 minutes to spare when they finally seated us. Their attempt at an apology--a cheap bottle of champagne--only underscored how little intention they had of offering the level of service a supposedly high‑end venue should deliver. At no point did anyone take ownership of the delay, or make any meaningful effort to correct the situation. Boston has no shortage of places that understand hospitality. Long Bar, unfortunately, isn't one of them. Unless you want to be packed into a noisy bar with college kids trying to pretend they're grown up, avoid. read more

Honestly, my $30 eggs Benedict mirrored a $12 Denny's breakfast. I could have easily made this breakfast for under $10. Absolutely not impressed in the least bit. This is my second time returning to this particular restaurant and my fourth time returning to Raffles, and so far with all of Boston's restaurants, I am not impressed and will not return. We ate here 3 mornings during our stay this winter. It's a cozy spot, I love the decor. Our service was great, both our waiters were super attentive and friendly. I'd say it's a fairly limited menu, I was craving French toast but unfortunately they don't offer it. The bacon is good but it was a little inconsistent. The food at Long Bar wasn't my favorite, but there were some highlights. The crispy shrimp came out piping hot and was definitely my favorite dish of the night. The Lalo negroni was also quite good. However I wouldn't say any of the other dishes were particularly memorable. The salmon was cooked well and tender, but didn't have a lot of flavor and I wish the gnocchi was served with more sauce. The pavlova was quite sticky on the inside which I didn't love. All that being said, the space and views from the bar are super nice so I would say that it's a nice place to grab a drink. read more

Located inside the Raffles Hotel in Back Bay on the 17th floor is the Long Bar and Terrace with a bar, indoor lounge seating and outdoor seating with certain views of the skyline of Boston. Very modern and high ceilings with great light fixtures, reminds me of Gossip Girl homes. It is on the pricier side as expected with smaller portions as well ordered the calamari and grilled octopus. Our main entrees were good especially the burger with salad. Lobster roll was meaty too. read more

The views! What a great place to get drinks and hang out with friends! We wanted to get drinks before dinner and decided to venture out to the Long Bar to hopefully get a nice view of the city. Our party of four was quickly seated close to the nice bar. We didn't get outdoor seating which would of been nice but we could still see some of the city views from their huge windows. The place is very elegant and the service was very attentive. We ordered some of their signature cocktails which were very reasonably priced. They brought out a complementary tray of snacks to enjoy while we waited for our drinks. The olives and nuts were very yummy and we kept getting free refills which was nice. The presentation of our cocktails really impressed me! And the lining embroidered placemats was really over the top but appropriate for this place. The cocktails were very delicious and strong. I noticed people enjoying pasties that were towered on a stand and looked very good. We will have to come back to try those yummy looking pastries. read more

Go for drinks, not food. Go for views, not sunset. Went here twice within the past week: once for after dinner drinks and once for a 3pm light bite. Service is 10/10, which I'd expect for a hotel like this. I was not let down. Their all-day menu however was sparse, with limited vegetarian options, they didn't venture beyond a cheese board and salad. A note on the cheese board: jasper hill is not known for their cheddar and I'm surprised at this selection... really? Not their award-bwinning Willoughby or harbison? The burger was a standard good burger and the cod fritters were good enough to eat but already slipping my memory. Ambience is really well executed, very Instagram friendly, even when not facing their impressive windows. This is not the place for sunset views, however, as this faces the east. Went here for a sisters' lunch date after reading great reviews and being drawn to the rooftop setting. While the food and drinks were decent, the service completely tainted the experience. From the moment we walked in, the energy from the staff was cold and unwelcoming. The hostess barely acknowledged us and treated us as if we were an inconvenience rather than guests. Once we were finally seated, it took over 15 minutes before anyone came over to offer water or even say hello. Meanwhile, other tables that arrived after us were greeted and served almost immediately. Thankfully, our server, once she finally arrived, was warm and attentive-honestly the only bright spot in an otherwise disappointing visit. I split my time between Boston and Miami, and I've experienced hospitality across the spectrum; from exceptional to forgettable. I know my friend who came with me 1 star because of our experience, but I am giving an additional star for the hosts and the nice view. Delicious food and amazing views! We were able to get a seat at the bar on a Friday night and we are already looking forward to a return trip. All the food we had was great but if you're looking for a nice strong drink I would recommend sticking to the wine menu. While the cocktails were good flavor wise they felt more like I was drinking a mocktail - great if you're someone who doesn't like the taste of alcohol in their drinks at all though! Finally made it to Boston to check out one of the newer lounges located inside Raffle Hotel. We were greeted by their staff upon entering the main door. Proceeded to the elevator to the 17th floor to access the bar and restaurant. Once exiting the elevator, turn left to go to Long Bar & Terrace or turn right to go to AMAR. We went left to Long Bar since we had just finished dinner elsewhere close by. At the host stand, we were told it was an hour wait for a table but we were welcome to sit at the bar as it's first come first serve. We placed our name down on the waitlist and went to the bar to get drinks. About 15 minutes later, the hostess grabbed us and said the table was ready (we were pleasantly surprised). The room was packed by the way and so was the bar. We ordered more drinks and oysters. The server brought out some snacks for the table. Service was prompt at the bar and at the dining area. The terrace was closed on that day which was slightly disappointing but the weather was chilly so it wasn't too disappointing. Our seats had a great view of Boston. Our total was $107 (pre-tip) for 3 cocktails, a hot tea and half a dozen oysters. It was definitely on the pricier side but given the ambiance and how beautiful the hotel is, we didn't mind paying a premium. Please note that this review is only for their drink service, as I did not eat any food while I was here. Came here yesterday for a quick drink and a bit of rest and relaxation before continuing on with my day as we wanted a nice spot to sit and draw for a bit. We ordered mocktails opposed to cocktails, so this review can be a bit skewed in that regard. We got the 'sling' and the 'penicillin' mocktails, both at $15 each. The sling tasted like pineapple juice and the penicillin tasted more like a mocktail. They also serve nuts (not gluten-free?) and olives as complementary snacks. The sling felt like a rip-off because it was basically just pineapple juice for $15. Also slightly disappointed that the nuts were not gluten-free but they were also complementary. I'd come here again for the views on the patio, but otherwise the overpriced food seemed unappealing from what other tables were having for the prices, but it's also a hotel bar/restaurant, so there's also that. Because it's new, you will encounter a wait to get into the bar (at night). No free standing space, so you have to sit at a table (reservations), or have a spot at the bar. Again, contributes to the long line. Thought drinks were tasty, just took awhile to get them since they were so packed. Pricey drinks, but that's expected for this hotel chain (Raffles hotel). Gorgeous setting with velvet couches but have only five entrees and as many apps. Food was mediocre. We had four fried prawns for $34 and a charcuterie board with four meats about 2oz each and two cheese for $38. Drinks started at $22 and were not very strong. I wasn't even tipsy after 1 and felt no buzz. None of the food was interesting or different than your local restaurant. I would go again for the view and a cocktail but not to eat. read more

We saw an IG reel about Raffles offering afternoon tea service at the Long Bar and Terrace so we booked tea time. I've been to almost all the establishments that offer afternoon tea in Boston so I'm excited to try this place. Raffles is beautiful. Its interior design kicks the ambiance up several levels. We got seated in a tiny corner for 3 people. I wish they gave us a regular table instead because the server struggled to put everything on the tiny table. We saw 2 people sitting at tables larger than ours. We made the reservation weeks ago so I'm pretty sure they could have arranged the seating better. It would have been more comfortable and more enjoyable if they arranged better. The food was alright; there are many places that's better. The tea wasn't potent either. However, I do like the orange marmalade a lot. I'm not sure if it's homemade but it was the best marmalade I've ever had. I'm also not really a jam person but they make me want to buy it! Recently came here for the afternoon tea. Having known about Raffles' reputation in the hotel world, I was expecting a luxury experience. Our seating was for 4pm but we still had to wait about 10 minutes to be shown to our table. It seemed like a very busy afternoon and maybe they were understaffed? But not a big deal because the tea experience was really nice. Our server was very friendly and gave us a rundown of all the bites. I went for an Earl Grey Queen Blend for my tea of choice simply because it's a Yunnan tea and I haven't been disappointed once by any tea from that part of the world. Very fragrant and well-balanced. The bites were mostly delectable. Not a big fan of the sandwiches but I could probably eat a dozen of the yuzu-apricot bites and the cara cara orange tarts. Also loved the jam that came with the scones. Everything was sweet, but not too sweet, which coming from an Asian person is the highest form of compliments when it comes to desserts. I would come back for afternoon tea. The only thing that wasn't my cup of tea was the noise level. We were close to the bar area and it was hard to hear each other sometimes when conversations that way were too loud. read more

Beware! Reservations are not honored! After having such a wonderful experience celebrating a friend's big birthday here, I immediately booked a table for a small casual dinner with friends who would be visiting from out of town a few weeks later. Two days before our scheduled dinner, I received a call saying that my reservation was canceled because there had been a "buyout" of the entire venue and that Resy had made a mistake. After recovering from this news enough to speak, I inquired as to how they could accommodate me given that I had made these plans weeks ago and booked a reservation in good faith. The representative said there was nothing she could do except book me into the fine dining restaurant in the hotel and then only at an inconvenient time. I asked how they would compensate me for this disappointment and inconvenience given that I had planned on this for several weeks and had reserved in good faith. I was told there was nothing that could be done. The representative then put the manager on the phone who basically repeated all the same baloney. Not only was I disappointed to have a dinner canceled that I had booked weeks before, but I was shocked that there was no effort whatsoever to compensate me for the inconvenience or try to find a reservation at another venue in the hotel at the time I had booked. If they had offered something like a a complementary appetizer and cocktail the next time I come in or something like that it would've taken a little of the sting out. Now I'm left with a feeling that the place is unprofessional and poorly managed. Not what I expected of an establishment of this caliber. read more

The only thing elevated about Raffles Long Bar is the height of the location. We sat at the bar -- the drinks were not special, and that was the best part. Hubby and I split a burger and fries -- we specifically asked for no aioli, seemed like an easy enough request. The burger arrived on two separate plates (good), with cheese stuck to the napkin (bad) and there was aioli on both rolls (bad). When I asked to send the burgers back the bartender asked if we wanted both redone - WHAT? Both halves of the same burger? A new one was brought out and it was a disappointment considering the price point -- not much flavor and fries that you'd find at MacDonalds -- again NOT for that price point, especially considering the competition. We will not be back - and we are their target demographic. If you want a great burger try The Newbury or Capital Burger, we've been to both many times. Probably TMI, but the men's urinal overlooks the highway, quite the experience and view. Breakfast sandwich - What sets it apart is the onion crunch it's topped with and the amazingly soft bread it is served on. It is a very handsome breakfast sandwich. They were even nice enough to cut it perfectly in half Cod Cake Eggs Benedict - The cod cake acts as the bread and the meat of the classic version, which makes it a very manageable portion.
