"You never see it coming, You never have a clue,…read moreBut there's trouble on the horizon, Bubbling like a roux" (Jimmy Buffet) Walking around and browsing the shops in Great Barrington on a beautiful Spring Day was a real enjoyable experience. We wanted to try a new place for lunch and ended up at Marjoram And Roux for a very nice lunch, It has a front showcasw with baked goods and prepared salads and a big roll of butcher paper on the wall where the day's specials are listed. We ordered at the front counter, grabbed a table in the modestly sized dining room and our two sandwiched came out very fast. My wife ordered a Prosciutto Baguette with arugula, red pepper tapenade, and Buffalo Mozzarella with an aged balsamic dressing for $16. I ordered a Pita Sadwich with White Bean Hummus, Beets, Olives, Pickled Onions, and Arugula for $12. Both sandwiches were served with a small salad of local greens. I loved my sandwich. The pillowy softness of the pita, the smooth velvety texture of the hummus, the sweetness of the beets, and the saltiness of the olives all combined for one fantastic sandwich. Portion size was generous, and since we knew we'd be stopping down the street for ice cream, we each took home half of our lunch. Pricing was reasonable at just around $30 after tax and before tip. There's a lot of lunch choices in Great Barrington and we were very happy with ours.

Very good coffee and hot drinks, teas, iced drinks. We split a spinach croissant into 4 and inhaled it in 2 seconds, it was good. The small menu of specials, written on white butcher, paperhanging on the subway tiled wall, looked fabulous. But the prize goes to the big, round Ginger Molasses cookie, studded with ginger and perfectly sweetened. A few cozy tables, nice natural lighting, relaxing background music and a friendly staff make for the perfect stop along your way.

Sometimes restaurants here can get tired of their own customers during the summer tourist season (if you've ever been to a restaurant here on a Friday or Saturday night in the summer you know!), but not so at Agaves. Within a few seconds of seating ourselves, the waiter brought chips and salsa to our table and then came back a minute or two later and took our drink order. The indoor dining space is nice, bright, and clean. The salsa was fresh. The drinks came out really quickly and the man serving us was very good--he didn't need to write down our orders and even remembered the changes we made. I had fajitas and my husband had two taco entrees. It was a generous amount of food and very delicious! The place had a very welcoming vibe. We will definitely return!

The bread will go home with us. The pizza is for dinner. Each pizza would probably serve one adult man and are absolutely delicious. Cooking instructions are on the wrap - put them right on the rack. Crispy crust has plenty of air pockets to keep it light with a good chew. The BBQ onion is sweet. The roasted garlic had a bunch of garlic scattered all over. Lots of cheese on both. The last pizza, roasted red pepper, will be for another day. They had about five pre-made frozen pizza options when we visited. If you prefer, call ahead and they will build one fresh to your liking for you to pick up and bake at home. The interior shopping area is small. By the register is a pastry display case with the most enormous stuffed croissants, scones, cookies and other sweet treats. Behind that is a display of fresh breads. On a rack by the door are bagged bread goods. Freezer and refrigerator cases are along the wall. If I lived around here I would without a doubt be a regular customer and try all their offerings. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Cozy seating area by the front door to enjoy your purchases on site. Big parking lot.

Peach and Ginger also a Double Chocolate muffin. Delicious. The down side was the very unprofessional attitude of the server behind the counter. We wanted fresh coffee and she actually lied to us about that, instead the coffee urn was mostly empty and not fresh. As for the Housatonic location we ordered some fabulous Almond Croissants and Baguette and San Francisco Bread loaf. Whoa delicious. The woman serving us was outstanding and her very professional attitude was a relief compared to their Pittsfield experience we had. Thank you!

Our waiter was exemplary and could teach classes in the art. For an enormous table of 3 generations, including several teenage boys, we not only felt welcome and special, we also felt very, very well fed. The menu was extensive and loaded with fresh fruit, veggie, meat and seafood. I think our family ordered nearly everything and we raved about it all. I appreciate the sensitivity about food allergies and found many nut-free options. The zero proof menu was broad and the local beers were fantastic. The venue is beautiful and has a very nice outdoor space, deck area, bar area, and then restaurant seating inside. There is a subtle but effective soundproofing on the ceiling. There are 2 all-gender single stall bathrooms that are tidy and spacious. Overall, it was a fabulous experience and I can't wait to go back for the fall specials!

It had an interesting "crispy" olive topping...delicious. I had the Korean BBQ ribs, with dirty rice and peanut, satay-like crumble. Had just a bit of heat, not as much as i would have expected. The dirty rice/peanut crumble was excellent. on the side there picked onions and pickles, could have had a bit more to balance the overall meal. Has a sophisticated, country vibe. It was definitely well executed, and higher end dining.
