People giving positive reviews must work there. THE PRICE IS OUTRAGEOUS. being in Aspen, you expect to pay high prices but you'd at least expect good quality food. An English breakfast cost $30 and you have to choose between sausage OR bacon.. come on, let's not penny pinch, if someone orders a breakfast for $30, you SHOULD be giving them both, plus fruit and yogurt, the whole lot! I'm British and make English breakfast all the time, what they presented to us doesn't cost more than $5 and that's including having someone cook it for you. I had the omlette which was fine, again, overpriced. It came with sourdough toast... which was rock hard. OH, AND, an extra side of bacon for $5... TWO pieces of bacon. FOR 5 DOLLARS. Staff were alright, not the best service but whatever. We were also disgusted that they gave us a plate that was covered in dust...see photo. All in all, regret coming here. The name on the menu is Pintxos. This place clearly suffers from an identity crisis. It's certainly pricey -- over $100 for a salad and a burger (no drinks) at lunchtime. While the food was just OK, the stuff that was supposed to be hot was kinda cold. Then when the salad ran out of dressing half way through, we asked for more. Anywhere else that shouldn't have been a problem, but here it took 25 minutes. Only after I asked a second server did I learn that the kitchen is in the basement of a building next door. That could also explain why the food was cold. Overall, I would recommend the long wait for a table across the street at the White House Tavern rather than eating at this place. I regret giving in to hunger and trying this place. Next time I'll know better. read more

I am slightly embarrassed for the staff working here. Let's start with atmosphere: beautiful but small, similar to lunch at grandmas house packed together in a small patio. The food was about an 6/10. The fries are frozen so I simply cannot justify a $10 price point. And the $22 breakfast sandwich was about the size of a hockey puck (it did come with a side of $10 fries so let's say $12 hockey puck sandwich). Okay so now here is the kicker; drinks. A very reasonable happy hour menu with drinks ranging in $5-$10 range, but be warned, if you go any other time in the day you are looking at a minimum $20 on a basic cocktail. I had ordered a $20 Bloody Mary that came loaded up IT EVEN INCLUDED A STRAW WRAPPER IN MY DRINK. I've been a bartender for years and I have never had something so disrespectful or disgusting. My second drink came with the straw unwrapped and in my drink for the second time and I was paranoid that I would be drinking paper. Now this review highlights the price point heavily and I do want to note my full understanding about the price point in the area as well as the price of sustainable practices. HOWEVER, absolutely nothing I experienced here was WORTH IT. Yes I can spend money at a cute little patio, but why would I do that here when you can't make up for what you lack at such a basic level? I had a chance to enjoy breakfast at Bear Den today. The restaurant itself is so absolutely adorable. I love the decor, very rustic. Though they're allowing limited indoor dining, we opted to sit outdoors. It was 30F out but we were surrounded by 4 heat lamps so we felt incredibly comfortable. The food itself was great! I ordered the French toast board and the eggs with benefits. The French toast was quite a large portion; def could be shared. It was served with a Berry compote and a cream cheese spread both which complimented the toast perfectly. My husband enjoyed the eggs with benefits which is their take on egg benedict. He seemed to enjoy it as well. Bear Den is a great option for breakfast and brunch in Aspen. I highly recommend it. I hear they also have a dinner menu as well. read more

No sides. They wanted $25 plus tax for the absolute worst excuse of a chicken sandwich I've ever experienced. Actually inedible, and I'm fat and not known to be picky. The "chef" and the owner should both be ashamed. But, I give 1 star for 2 reasons: 1.) I can't rate it any lower. 2.) Having good food is usually enough to redeem a place but this was some of the worst service I've ever had in my life and compounded with how ridiculously expensive this place is it's just not worth it to come here at all. We were the only people in the entire place and maybe 20 minutes after they gave us our 10 dollar orange juices (from the bartenders well), we had to ask if someone was planning on taking our orders. What a cute little restaurant in the heart of Aspen. We had reservations for 4, we were seated in a cute booth. The restaurant is small, but really nice atmosphere. We all enjoyed our dinners, I had the seared tuna on noodles, absolutely delicious. We all started with the Spring rolls. They didn't have our first choices of wine, but they suggested a really good CO wine from the Palisades. All of us enjoyed our choices for entrees. Our waiter happened to be from the Ukraine. I've had bear den so many times, and it keeps disappointing. First, they used to make the most PHENOMENAL mini pies, then stopped serving them. I had once ordered one, had it approved, and went to pick it up for them to tell me they had no clue who responded to me and they didn't sell the pies anymore. That was the only thing keeping them afloat in my book. I had them for takeout one night during the pandemic, and they got my order wrong. Ended up with something I could barely eat. Their chai is extremely milky, had absolutely no flavor. Their fondue is actually a great blend of cheese, and was rather delicious, but was ruined by the staff forgetting about us at our table outside in the freezing cold. I then later had brunch there another time, and had the most underwhelming overpriced pancake. It was really cute with the bear face, but not yummy. I really don't have a lot to add to previous reviews. We rolled into town late and just wanted an espresso and cappuccino. The hostess was quite nice in showing us an outdoor table (our request) under a covering (it was drizzly). We were the only 2 out there so it was nice and private while also getting an opportunity to observe the crowds on the street and do some people watching. The outdoor bartender was very attentive. Look, I Live in LA and I've been a Chef for over 15 years. Instead, I got a haphazardly thrown together breakfast sandwich, that I honestly I could have gotten at Jour De Fete for about a fraction of the cost. The cinnamon roll, although it looked beautiful, was dry, dense, seemed a day old and almost flavorless. Cozy and comfy in the midst of a challenging new year! we spent the entire week in restaurant and bar lockdown in Aspen due to the covid virus! It was tough and we ate in a lot but on our last day we finally made it to the cutest little restaurant in town. Such a cute lil spot! The decor and atmosphere is so cozy and tasteful, the service is incredible - very very friendly and attentive. Very impressive menu with many options, something for everyone ! I was so happy to see that the french onion soup was vegetarian, we did not miss the beef broth at all- the soup was sososo flavorful and tasty * chefs kiss *. I shed tears when Main Street Bakery closed, and I have enjoyed many lattes from the soon to close Paradise Bakery, so consider this significant emotional baggage when I give Bear Den Aspen a positive review. Bear Den is a chic little breakfast spot with a solid breakfast menu. The eggs benedict were creamy and flavorful, the Rio Grande breakfast bowl was wholesome and filling, and the assortment of coffee and espresso drinks should keep everyone happy. Service was quick and friendly, masks were abundant (yaaasss) and well behaved dogs were welcome within the plentiful outdoor seating. Good: Decor is charming and very inviting. The menu has some great options. Location is so perfect and patio dining is always a plus! The music was fantastic. It's also a bonus to have blankets on the patio! Love that addition. The poke bowl I ordered was yummy. Bad: We waited at the door patiently as the three staff were arguing with one another. At some point, I interjected and asked if we needed to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. We were told to seat ourselves which we did on the patio. We asked for water and an iced tea. I didn't see a drinks menu so I didn't know that the iced tea is $9 so beware. We asked our server his opinion on the burger or the poke bowl. He asked us "Why get the burger when you can get that at McDonald's?" Which is a strange comment given the burger was highlighted as a house specialty. So I got the poke bowl and the truffle fries (soggy and awful...try them at Ajax). My friend ordered the iced latte with their homemade coconut caramel flavor. Our server was confused with the order and said, "Can you repeat the novel you just asked for?" I don't normally order coffee but it seemed steep at $9 and unfortunately my friend said the coffee was...basic and nothing special. Too bad we had to wait 20 minutes for the iced coffee during an off lunch time of 3:30 pm. A third friend arrived later to the table and asked for a water which never came so she drank from the ice glass that was brought over for our two original waters. I also asked for a refill of my tea which did not come so I had to ask again. Most of our dirty bowls/plates stayed on the table almost until the time of the bill. Nobody followed up on our drinks or meals to see if we needed anything else. We sat for so long and waited and waited and waited. I asked for the check yet again. In all of this review it is hard to articulate the aggressive nature of how we were treated when asking for anything. The staff seemed incredibly put out the entire time. We noticed the table in front of us exasperated and also having to ask for their bill. When we received our bill, I had confusion with the price of the poke bowl so my friend went inside to grab a menu. When she did, two of the servers approached her so rudely. They said they would have helped but yet there was nobody in sight to actually help! Upon further review of our bill, I saw that the tea was not a free refill so it was $18 for my tea. Ripoff. Additionally, the server who claimed to be the "manager" was so belligerent with me about my confusion on the price of my meal. I didn't know if it was the lunch or dinner price. Upon realizing I was in error I apologized but of course the manager then yells out, "We're good? We're good?!" No Sir, we are not good. When looking at the bill, I expressed my displeasure not just with the tea charge & just at least being informed but the overall lack of service and total inattentiveness. I asked for a manager to which our server told us he was the manager so he offered to get the GM but of course that person never came. He then proceeded to ask if we lived there or "just tourist" since we were decked out in Aspen wear. Well Sir, I've had a place here for the last almost six years and have my favorites and decided to try out your charming "looking" establishment. I had no idea I would have such an underwhelming experience. With a change in staff, management, and pricing the location itself has great potential. Until then, this is a solid one star. read more
