I shed tears when Main Street Bakery closed, and I have enjoyed many lattes from the soon to close Paradise Bakery, so consider this significant emotional baggage when I give Bear Den Aspen a positive review. Bear Den is a chic little breakfast spot with a solid breakfast menu. The eggs benedict were creamy and flavorful, the Rio Grande breakfast bowl was wholesome and filling, and the assortment of coffee and espresso drinks should keep everyone happy. Service was quick and friendly, masks were abundant (yaaasss) and well behaved dogs were welcome within the plentiful outdoor seating. This isn't a greasy spoon breakfast for $10, it's a quality, slightly gourmet spot for a relaxed meal where you can sit down and catch up with a friend. I'm glad Bear Den came to Aspen. read more

Good: Decor is charming and very inviting. The menu has some great options. Location is so perfect and patio dining is always a plus! The music was fantastic. It's also a bonus to have blankets on the patio! Love that addition. The poke bowl I ordered was yummy. Bad: We waited at the door patiently as the three staff were arguing with one another. At some point, I interjected and asked if we needed to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. We were told to seat ourselves which we did on the patio. We asked for water and an iced tea. I didn't see a drinks menu so I didn't know that the iced tea is $9 so beware. We asked our server his opinion on the burger or the poke bowl. He asked us "Why get the burger when you can get that at McDonald's?" Which is a strange comment given the burger was highlighted as a house specialty. So I got the poke bowl and the truffle fries (soggy and awful...try them at Ajax). My friend ordered the iced latte with their homemade coconut caramel flavor. Our server was confused with the order and said, "Can you repeat the novel you just asked for?" I don't normally order coffee but it seemed steep at $9 and unfortunately my friend said the coffee was...basic and nothing special. Too bad we had to wait 20 minutes for the iced coffee during an off lunch time of 3:30 pm. A third friend arrived later to the table and asked for a water which never came so she drank from the ice glass that was brought over for our two original waters. I also asked for a refill of my tea which did not come so I had to ask again. Most of our dirty bowls/plates stayed on the table almost until the time of the bill. Nobody followed up on our drinks or meals to see if we needed anything else. We sat for so long and waited and waited and waited. I asked for the check yet again. In all of this review it is hard to articulate the aggressive nature of how we were treated when asking for anything. The staff seemed incredibly put out the entire time. We noticed the table in front of us exasperated and also having to ask for their bill. When we received our bill, I had confusion with the price of the poke bowl so my friend went inside to grab a menu. When she did, two of the servers approached her so rudely. They said they would have helped but yet there was nobody in sight to actually help! Upon further review of our bill, I saw that the tea was not a free refill so it was $18 for my tea. Ripoff. Additionally, the server who claimed to be the "manager" was so belligerent with me about my confusion on the price of my meal. I didn't know if it was the lunch or dinner price. Upon realizing I was in error I apologized but of course the manager then yells out, "We're good? We're good?!" No Sir, we are not good. When looking at the bill, I expressed my displeasure not just with the tea charge & just at least being informed but the overall lack of service and total inattentiveness. I asked for a manager to which our server told us he was the manager so he offered to get the GM but of course that person never came. He then proceeded to ask if we lived there or "just tourist" since we were decked out in Aspen wear. Well Sir, I've had a place here for the last almost six years and have my favorites and decided to try out your charming "looking" establishment. I had no idea I would have such an underwhelming experience. With a change in staff, management, and pricing the location itself has great potential. Until then, this is a solid one star. read more

Love the outdoor tables... BUT.... Small glass of tea for $9. Seriously? Yup, we each had a glass. Should have read the menu more carefully. If that is not bad enough, when we asked for a "little more tea", the waiter brought us two more teas. My bad. We thought he would refill the tiny glass... oh no, $18 more $$$. Total tea bill $36. Food ok. Fried chicken sandwich did not have much chicken at all... maybe 1/3rd chicken breast. We won't be back. Dinner was disgusting! It was a Tuesday evening so maybe kitchen staff was off. Samosas were literally frozen. Don't even think they made there way to to deep fryer before they hit our table. This set the tone. Stir fry rice was crunchy and veggies mush with a side of sauce that was not mixed. Fish or oyster sauce was concentrated and made me feel Sick. There was just no effort in the dishes taste or presentation. Good thing it was so dark. Our waiter was super friendly but lacking in professionalism. Bear Den is Aspen's newest, coziest restaurant and cafe. They opened right before COVID shut all of Aspen down and somehow managed to survive. My husband and I went out for the first time in months and had an amazing dinner at Bear Den. They even accommodated me when I got too hot outside and moved us inside. Service was great, but the prices are really expensive for what you're getting. We came here for brunch in Aspen and sat at a small table on their cute patio. My fiance ordered a chai latte with whole milk, which was heavy on the milk, not a lot of chai flavor. I ordered the Ajax Burrito, which was really good. I should have asked for some salsa to make it easier for dipping than pico de gallo. Just a comment on the price - the burrito was $18. At my local coffee shop, it would be $6/7. I know Aspen's expensive, but my eyes definitely got wide considering it was beans, cheese, egg, and quinoa in a tortilla. My fiance had the sunnyside breakfast sandwich, which he added avocado and bacon to, making it a total of $30. The sandwich was sweeter than I expected, almost like it had syrup on it, which was surprising. We were both happy with our orders, but underwhelmed when you consider the price. Yes, this adorable spot is trendy and IG worthy, but, the food stands out on its own. We liked it so much we went twice in a 6 day trip. First time around I had the French onion soup (fave!) which is unfortunately no longer on the current menu (boo!) If I had one critique about the soup, I personally would prefer more broth and less cheese topping (unpopular opinion probably as everyone else in my party loved the heaping portion of cheese topping). The side salad I had was fresh and crisp, I maybe would've preferred a little less dressing. The truffle fries are amazing. Second trip around I had the tomato soup with grilled cheese. I really don't have a lot to add to previous reviews. We rolled into town late and just wanted an espresso and cappuccino. The hostess was quite nice in showing us an outdoor table (our request) under a covering (it was drizzly). We were the only 2 out there so it was nice and private while also getting an opportunity to observe the crowds on the street and do some people watching. The outdoor bartender was very attentive.
