We had the most wonderful breakfast at Bear Paw Cafe. We were seated immediately, arriving at around opening on a Monday. The service was excellent, as was the food and coffees. I had a caramel crème and my boyfriend had a mocha coffee. Both were excellent. I had the half stack blueberry pancakes, with eggs over easy, bacon, and home fries. Those blueberry pancakes. They were amazing! I'd get them again in a heartbeat. The bacon was also particularly good though I wish it were cooked just a little more. I was surprised by the home fries which were essentially flat french fries- no complaints here though. I ate almost everything. My boyfriend got the French toast stuffed with crème brûlée, the sausage, home fries, and eggs sunny side up. The best thing on his plate was that French toast! But everything else was good too. We were looking forward to Bear Paw, but unfortunately had a pretty tough experience. Context: family of four heading home on the last day of a Spring Break road trip. We put our name in around 9:45am. The 30-45 minute wait time was just under 80 minutes. Ten minutes after being seated, we had menus but no waters, place settings, or server.  The host station was 6 feet from us, so I went over and let them know we were ready. "Your server will be with you shortly." Ten more minutes, nothing. I went to the bar area and asked for help. Turns out, our server didn't know our table was part of her area - so, the host was just saying a line to get rid of us. There were two hosts and mostly they tried to avoid clearing tables, hoping the other one did it. There were 3-4 parties waiting for tables that were available, just not being cleared.  The food was good, and came out fairly soon after ordering. I wish I could just review the food; it was 5/5. One order was slightly wrong, but that was the server grabbing the wrong plate. It was just after noon by the time our food arrived. That's a big interval for a ~9:45am arrival. I just looked at the most recent dozen reviews, and it looks like ours was more of the norm right now rather than an isolated unlucky incident. Lots of potential here but overall, we should've tried somewhere else. read more

This lovely little café in comfortable downtown St. George offers some very satisfying options for breakfast and lunch. Located on Main St. in the middle of this small city, it was nicely tucked into the other businesses in that block. We walked in just before 2 PM on a Thursday, an hour before closing time. There were five or six other parties, but it was no problem to get a table in their relatively spacious dining room. The place was tidy and nicely decorated, yet it retained a modicum of simplicity to give it the feel of a Western hometown diner. We were attended to fairly quickly. Our server Samantha did a very good job of taking care of us while we were there. The menu offered many tempting and even decadent options. I decided to try the Huevos Rancheros, which came with bacon and a salad on the side. These were done a little differently than most preparations of Huevos Rancheros that I have tried. There wasn't much in the way of a "Mexican-style" bent to them. They were very cheesy but not very spicy. But they were still good and a little Tabasco or Frank's can always take care of the spice! My wife went the route of decadence with a Peanut Butter Waffle. This was a golden brown waffle prepared just right with whipped cream drizzled with caramel. It was finished with a few banana slices to give it a wonderful, though rich, blend of flavors. We had water to drink so our final bill with food, tax and tip was $36. At $18 per person by today's standards, I was happy enough with the value. I should note that there was enough to take away for another small meal, thus adding to the value. If you are in downtown St. George, I'd recommend giving this place a try. It's a great place for comfort fare. I have a partiality to downtown diners, and this is a good one. read more

We loved this place so much, we came back a second time on our vacation! They were busy both times, but the service is great! They've been there for 30 years and are open every day of the week for lunch and all day breakfast. Although they've been there so long, everything looked fresh and clean and cared for. It has small town diner vibes. The food was all delicious and cooked on point! The sweet cream pancakes were heavenly! I tried the Bear Paw Hot Vanilla, made with milk, honey, vanilla, raw sugar, whipped cream, cinnamon and nutmeg and I fell in love! I'm glad I don't live here, because that drink could be a problem lol. We love stopping at Bear Paw Café whenever we pass through St. George, and this visit reminded us why. The peanut butter pancakes are absolutely unbeatable--hands down our favorite anywhere. We came in at 7 a.m., and the two servers working that morning were such a delight. We didn't catch their names, but one looked to be in her twenties and the other maybe late thirties, and both were so fun to talk to. They set the tone for a perfect breakfast. This is a great place for breakfast or brunch! We spent the night in St. George and the hotel recommended we go to Bear Paw. Honestly one of the best restaurant breakfasts we've had on the road. Husband praised the fruit cup, which was way better--in quantity and quality-- than the usual diner fruit. I was surprised to see some Bear Paw reviews with low scores--mostly complaining about having to wait for a table . We were there at an off time and didn't have to wait at all. But I could see that at peak times, the restaurant could have a wait. Although nothing like the wait at diners in New York City at peak times! Two visits. Two different experiences. First time the food was good and the server was ready attentive. No refill on coffee but, okay. Second time I ordered poached eggs, I guess I didn't realize that I needed to say medium. They came medium-well hard boiled. The server took the order, delivered the food, came when I asked for the check and then disappeared. I paid at the counter with the help of one of the other three servers chatting together. It was a few days after Christmas and a Sunday so the place was very busy as there few only a few places open. I ordered an omelette and my boyfriend ordered a hamburger. The omelette was just OK, the fat that it had been cooked in didn't taste very fresh and so it had that slightly stale taste and the vegetables were not great either. My boyfriend had the hamburger and he said it was way too salty, that was the hamburger patty itself. Even though I am a vegetarian, I asked him for a taste, and it was very salty. Full transparency, he did eat it, but we brought it to their attention afterwards. Drip coffee was on the pricier side, we paid $4.35 for a cup, which is a lot for a small café I think. It was good though. The staff were friendly. But I don't think I'll eat here again. read more

We were a party of 6 and were quoted a 30-40 minute wait, but ended up waiting over an hour while several parties who arrived after us were seated first. I understand that smaller tables may be seated sooner, but after the quoted wait time had already passed, we watched two small tables seated right next to each other that could have easily been combined to accommodate our group. That was frustrating, especially after waiting longer than expected. When I went to check on our wait time, I stood at the host stand for quite a while before being acknowledged. Someone told me they would be with me shortly, but then proceeded to clean a table before coming back to help me. Overall, the customer service could definitely use improvement, particularly in communication and managing wait times more thoughtfully. read more

What a great find for a good breakfast, I was on a girls trip and we found this spot on a Yelp search. The cafe is good sized and the food is good so plan on putting your name on the list and waiting for a little bit outside. Our 10 minute wait was worth it. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs and this is the best chicken fried steak I have had in a long time. My friends ordered eggs and bacon and potatoes and a pancake meal and they were very happy with the food, the price and the service. The home fries were good, but not really what one would expect when ordering home fries. I do not mind restaurants doing things a little differently, but I think the guests should know. There was a specific (cheese? spice?) blend that they used that I liked quite a bit on the home fries and I would order them again. The interior is pretty cramped and the walkway exiting the building requires some maneuvering if someone else is coming down. Our waitress seemed disinterested until she gave us the bill. From what I had heard, this place was super good. And from the line outside, I had high expectations. But the food itself was not that special, I got the French toast which was good, but nothing special. I thought it was kind of flavorless. My mother has been here before and said that it wasn't nearly as good as it was a few years ago. Some of the workers looked like they were struggling to find stuff to do, or they were just chatting with co-workers. As a result, we waited for 30 minutes just to get our food. It was a very cozy atmosphere and was a nice experience. They do very good at maintaining the old cafe look. My mom took us to this place when we were visiting Utah. Located in the cute and walkable Dixie area in St. George. I love that area, and parking wasn't an issue as there was a structure nearby. Get ready to wait a long time if you go during the weekend breakfast rush! We waited about an hour. During that wait, I was able to go next door and visit the beautiful hotel and check out their bar and lobby. Inside the restaurant there is a decent amount of seating, but definitely on the smaller side. Had a cozy, cafe vibe that we enjoyed. We were helped pretty quickly after sitting down, there was a group of 4 of us. The food is so yummy and the portions are huge! Everything tasted so fresh. We were definitely stuffed after our meal. We tried the quiche - so good with the potatoes, pancakes that were humongous, biscuits and gravy - this was one of the best I have ever had and came with so much other food (sausage and potatoes), and the pastrami sandwich with sweet potato fries. This very cute cafe was very pleasant. The staff was friendly and we were greeted very nicely and seated! The food was wonderful and a lot! My favorite was The Bear Paw Hot Vanilla drink! It was so light and nice. My husband and granddaughter asked to have milk and the first time it was brought in a warm glass and the second time they both said it tasted funny, so something was up with the milk that day. Well I pushed up a block happy and hungry. My 3 girls and I had just finished playing at the water feature down at the park. The lovely ramp appeared to be for ADA access although it was odd to have a ramp inside. Get this, a podium blocked the way at the top. What an obtrusive and unwelcoming entrance for any wheelchair user. this It was really quite ridiculous. And the aisles, the aisles in the restaurant existed but were most likely cause for concern. I did not even want to wait in one of them for a table. Besides, I had to knock a table out of my way just to turn around. Check the ADA laws Bear Paw! Thanks for nothing. read more

The Bear Paw Cafe used to be a great place for breakfast or brunch. I had not been there for years because of bad service. Decided to try again with a friend yesterday and we were very disappointed. She ordered Eggs Benedict and was quite pleased with those. I ordered French toast with hash browns and bacon. The French toast had no butter on it and was mediocre. Both of our hash browns were so greasy and had the smell and taste of rancid oil. My friend complained about her hash browns and they offered to make her some more. However, the 2nd try was no better. I only ate about 4 bites of hash browns with lots of ketchup to mask the taste and my bacon was very fatty and greasy. At bill time the server offered to comp my friends meal, which we appreciated but the greasy food set us both up for indigestion. in addition, the restroom was dirty and the whole place needs repairs and painting. There seems to be no money being put back into this restaurant. A very big disappointment and we will never go back!! read more

Staff was incredibly friendly--felt more like being welcomed into someone's home than just grabbing breakfast. The Stuffed French Toast with vanilla filling? Absolute hit. Soft, warm, loaded with fresh fruit, and the custard filling was next level. CUSTAAAAAAARD. Rich, sweet, and super satisfying. Easy 8/10. Chicken Fried Steak was also a standout. Swapped out toast for a biscuit--solid move. The steak was crispy and tender, and the gravy had deep, savory flavor that tied it all together. Another 8/10 across the board. The kids loved their meals too. The chocolate chip pancakes were sweet and fluffy, a clear win. And the half waffle disappeared completely--first time that plate was wiped clean. Oh, and don't sleep on the hot chocolate. It officially got the "best hot chocolate ever" stamp of approval from the kids, which is not a title they hand out lightly. We happened upon this little cafe last Sunday morning. What grabbed our attention were all the "best of awards" stickers on their windows. We were greeted by a friendly smile and seated right away. We ordered the Greek Omelette, the breakfast burrito, the orange smoothie and the Mocha smoothie. Sure enough, I've heard of the infamous breakfast place that is open every day of the year, but I had never made it over for a meal...until now. Yes, we waited. About an hour for a table on a Saturday around 10am. It's a small café in a beautiful old building along Main Street. Service was attentive and friendly, once we were seated. I enjoyed the #1-eggs, bacon and potatoes. I found that the bacon was a little more seasoned than I would prefer and the portion of eggs was a little small, especially compared to the generous portion of potatoes. My wife had the chocolate chip pancakes and said they were very good. Since there is often a wait, plan accordingly and spend some time browsing some of the nearby shops. read more
