I am only giving it a two because of the layout of the course, hilly terrain and beautiful setting. The condition of the course was the worst I have every seen and I have been playing golf for 63 years. My understanding is that this course is owned by the Tennessee park system. They will never be able to put in the money it will take to compete with the other courses in the area. They should put it up for sale and let the new owners put a few million back into the course. I would have no problem paying $80 to $100 for the experioence. read more

Excellent golf course with great staff. Friendly expert golf pros. Course is challenging both par wise and topography. Well worth a visit.

Bear Trace gets three stars simply because of the layout and my group has fond memories of playing here years ago when the course was relatively new. The course is not being maintained well. This is a prime example of simply to many golf courses and it being challenging to make enough money to maintain the course properly. It is to bad, because the course is a great layout. Would not recommend. Layout of the course is great. Thanks Jack. Have played it 8 times in the last 20 years.. getting worse and worse and prices going up and up. Hard to understand. Every part of the experience is not worth the price now. $75 to play and $10 cheeseburgers???? Greens with fungus, unmowed everywhere, terrible bunkers. We will not be back either. Jack Nicklaus would be so disappointed if he saw this course today. Premium price ($63) for unplayable greens, nasty fairways and just all around not very well taken care of. You get 1 Star for the very nice people that work there. Probably will not be returning. read more

Went to play on 10-4-20, the other reviews are not as bad as described. The tee boxes and fairways were in excellent shape. More than half of the greens were in great shape, however a few of them were in bad shape. Overall great course. read more

We had a group of twelve that made tee times months in advance. They had a college tournament in which more players showed up than they'd made arrangements for. The management at Bear Trace decided the solution was to make us wait over an hour to tee off behind the college players while they sent people that showed up after us off the back nine. We had to wait 10-15 minutes on every tee box and most only finished nine holes because of the poor decisions of management. This was a replay round as we'd already played one round in the morning, and they eventually, after several phone calls to complain, refunded everyone $25/each, but golfers know playing a scheduled round is more important than a refund. We will not be returning to this poorly run course ever again. This was the second time they've screwed up our group in favor of another. Too many better courses that are properly run in the area to play, choose another. read more

I would leave 0 stars but that's not an option. Probably 6 greens are unplayable. Fairways are as thick as rough and the rough is unplayable. Burn marks on literary every single green making almost every green not puttable. Really really bad shape. Has such potential with location and natures surrounding. Very sad. Won't be going back. read more
