On my way home from my chiropractor appointment, I decided to stop by Bearded Bagel to get some bagels for the week and breakfast because I had not been here yet and wanted to check it out. Bearded Bagel is a wonderful bagel place off of E 96th St. that makes their own bagels and provides breakfast sandwiches. When I arrived and walked into the bagel shop, I noticed the menu on the wall right away, and a casual, but bland, ambiance where people can sit to relax and socialize. The woman behind the counter greeted me with a smile and asked for my order. I took a few minutes to study the menu, and decided to go with the Doctor T's Sandwich for breakfast which is egg, American cheese, and Turkey sausage on a plain bagel. I also picked up a 1/2 dozen bagels for the week and tried the assorted flavors: asiago, blueberry, jalapeno, jalapeno cheddar, cran cinnamon, and everything. I did get an iced latte with almond milk for my beverage. The beverage was wonderful and refreshing. It was what I needed to pick me up in the morning. The Doctor T's sandwich was Ok and tasted good. The turkey sausage and egg combination was a perfect fit, but will see if I can get it on a Jalapeno cheddar bagel next time, because that would make it even better. The bagels are always top notch and first class. The jalapeno cheddar bagel and jalapeno bagel are my favorite. The cran cinnamon bagel is always good. Bearded Bagel is a wonderful bagel place in Indy, and the fact that thet have another location opening up very soon off of 79th Street makes me very happy because I can go somewhere else to get their bagels. I'm very glad I stopped by at Bearded Bagel for breakfast because now I can say I have been here, and it is worth the price and time for the bagels and breakfast sandwiches. We've been trying to get to this place for a while now and even made a U-turn just to finally stop. I've heard so much about the hangover bagel, but on this particular day I wasn't too hungry. Even though it was hard to choose something else, I ended up getting the slammin sammy and it did not disappoint! It has bacon, egg, and American cheese on a plain bagel--simple but perfect. It's a bagel wonderland! I stumbled upon this little gem on one of my rare trips to the Northeast side of Indy. I happened to be in the area and in need of a little something to snack on. What should appear to my wandering eyes, but this cute little spot? I was so excited to pop inside and see how bright and cute it was. The menu is published right on the wall and it's colorful and defined by breakfast, lunch, vegetarian, etc. The gentleman at the counter was super friendly and yes he did in fact have a beard! My bagel was served warm, totally yummy, and more than filling. I noticed they had some food trucks parked out front so I'm betting I'll find them on one of my next adventures in the spring or summer time. I wanted to love this place when I decided to come here based on the positive reviews so went while in the area. I don't get it but that isn't to say their food is bad or perhaps their sandwiches are outstanding but I'm a purest and if I'm going to a bagel shop that has bagel in their name I'm getting a plain bagel. I got an everything bagel which isn't as pure as possible and they are small. I expected a NYC style bagel and this isn't it. It didn't taste super fresh and was one of the smallest bagels I'd had recently anywhere. Maybe they make great sandwich's and other stuff but if you are headed there for the bagel don't expect much. As for pricing, for the size bagel, it seemed expensive especially with a $2 up charge for cream cheese which I didn't get. Place was very clean however and the menu seemed busy but clear and the staff was friendly. Just wish the bagel had amazed me. UPDATED NOTE simply to respond to owner comment. First, the bagel was good, there was nothing wrong with it. I went first thing in the morning though and it didn't wow me and certainly didn't seem like it was made that morning. I did NOT get the cream cheese, if that wasn't clear. But insinuating I'm comparing this to a store bought bagel is definitely not the case. There veggie, turkey, pork bagels and then the good old cream cheese and traditional bagel for those who don't prefer the number of fix ins. We tried Pizza and Lox bagel and the flavors combined with the steamed bagels just didn't disappoint. It was filling, fresh, tasty and absolutely divine combos. I learned about this place from a local foodies FB page for having the best biscuits and gravy in town. I ran right there and wow, zero disappointment! While the Bs&Gs come traditional or loaded with egg, bacon, and cheese, the rest of the menu is nothing to scoff at. The owner uses bagels from Bagel Fair, which I was surprised to learn (and confirmed with the owner, to be sure). I had assumed they were made in-house, but I appreciate the transparency when I asked. I've brought food from here to friends and family - everyone is always very pleased! I especially love the lox bagel, as well as having more options than cream cheese, such as PB&J. Service is solid consistently, there are many bagel flavors and sandwich options to choose from, and there's always plenty of parking. Stopped by here for breakfast on our way into Indy and it did not disappoint! As you can see from my sandwich, the hangover helper, there is plenty of food for your meal. The sandwich kept me full until dinner time. The delicious savory of the spicy and tangy cheese combined with bacon on an everything bagel that has just enough topping. I have been wanting to try Bearded Bagel for a little while now, and I finally made the trip. The shop was nice and clean with their cute logo randomly posted throughout the bagel shop. Oddly enough, the soda machine was literally one of the cleanest I have ever seen in my life lol! I also really enjoyed the uniqueness of the menu posting which was colorfully displayed on a chalkboard behind the register. The menu had plenty of options that I would love to go back and try on my next visit. The service was good as well. The two people that we spoke to were helpful and accommodating. I ordered the Philly bagel. It was a very fulfilling bagel. It was large and stacked with ingredients. I probably wouldn't order it again because I felt like it was a lot of food for me. I don't fault the folks at Bearded Bagel at all because the order was very true to what the menu described. Now that I know though, I'll probably order a more simple bagel next time unless I'm really hungry. I did not buy one of the cookies in the display case, but I've been thinking about them ever since I left lol. They looked delicious, and I will be back to get one. You can tell they make the bagels in house and they are soooo much better than any store bought bagel, and honestly better than any bagel I've probably ever had. Grand Opening at second location that's located off 79th & Fall Creek. I finally made it in to try a BB. Seen the post on Instagram and had plans to be there when they opened at 7 AM, but it slipped my mind. I finally made it in and I'm so glad I did. Was promptly greeted upon walking through the door. The lady, whom I am assuming is the owner or of the owners, was very helpful in assisting me with what to order. She understood I was pressed for time and my order was made and delivered in a good time. I went for the Handy Andy; minus the green peppers. Omg!!! Sooo delicious. All sandwiches are steamed or warmed. I was able to taste every single ingredient; down to the bagel. I will definitely be returning to try the Philly. I also inquired about a pork substitute and they are currently exploring other options for those who are pork free. I first tried the food at a treat shared by the apartment complex where we are staying while displaced from our Condo after the fire. I decided to go back an patronize on my own time. Great food, excellent service, and a friendly team made this a great experience for me. The food was delicious, and they had unique and delicious food choices. The food tasted great, and they had generous portions. It's such a cool/hip environment, and the energy with the staff was fantastic. I left the location feeling well-fed, encouraged, and energized. I typically give a lower start review for locations that don't have good options for my wife, who has Celiac disease. But this restaurant is a bagel-based restaurant, and I don't feel like they should be penalized for that. The food was great, the service was fantastic, and I loved the vibe of the place. I visited Bearded Bagel for the second time yesterday afternoon. The first time was during a Yelp event and when my daughter told me that she was craving biscuits and gravy yesterday, I plugged that into the search bar and sorted by ratings. I placed an order online for pick-up: the "Basic B" for me, the "Plain Ol' Perry" for my fiance and the Biscuits & Gravy (2) for my darling cherub! lol Well, I'm sad to say that 2 out of 3 diners were less than satisfied. My daughter was not a fan of the biscuits and gravy, but said that she'd eat it because she was hungry. I later found them sitting on the kitchen counter, all but forgotten... my fiance's half-eaten sandwich sitting right beside it. He said it was good (probably in an effort to not make me feel bad for having spent my dough on it), but truthfully he was not a fan of the chewy bagel. I really wasn't either. Something tells me that this is probably how a bagel should be, but it isn't what I'm used to. I like toasty bagels and these were steamed, moist and squishy. Don't get me wrong, I ate the entire thing. The Basic B combination of ingredients were spot-on. I wouldn't suggest getting lettuce on a sandwich to go, however. I hate leaving bad reviews because I love buying local but to many glitches to not be honest. I'm from Louisville and was in town for a girls weekend with college friends. One of our buddies is in assisted living in Avon and I was grabbing breakfast to take over for her. When I arrived I realized I didn't go to the bakery where the bagels were cooked but after asking a few questions and calling the bagels company I decided why drive to another location to get what I wanted. I asked if the bagels were fresh and I was told they deliver them everyday. So I figured if the were $15 a dozen north places I was just loosing number 13 of the bakeries baker's dozen. I also ordered a tub of veggie cream cheese. The young lady waited on me was wonderful and friendly. It took me a few minutes to figure out what I wanted and she was so patient. But...I ended up with plain cream cheese not veggie. Only 10 bagels instead of 12 and I was given cranberry bagels instead of apple bagels. I had 2 bagels cut so they were in foil so I assume there was just miscommunication and the number of bagels being put in the bag? I saw them filling a tub with veggie so I'm not sure how it didn't make it in my bag. I did turn around and got the veggie cream cheese. We decided to give Bearded Bagel a try because, well, we love bagel sandwiches and this joint is rated pretty highly on Yelp -- enough said! They have a larger menu than I was expecting with both breakfast and lunch options, including a build your own for those with a creative side. I went with the Bulldog Breakfast primarily because it came on a jalapeño bagel. However, it also boasts egg, bacon, ham, sausage and pepperjack cheese. I opted to add some chipotle cream cheese to further the kick and add some sauce. The bagel was piping hot and double wrapped in aluminum, so I had to give it a minute to cool down before digging in. It was pretty big and I struggled to eat the whole thing in one sitting, but it was quite tasty! Next time, I would get the cream cheese on the side, as it melted with the toasted bagel and cooked ingredients, causing a bit of a mess (I didn't think that one through). There's something about the bagel sticking on my teeth I couldn't get past. It's a small place in a strip mall with indoor tables and a ton of options. I got the BLT on jalapeno and my husband the Dr. T which was sausage, egg, cheese on a jalapeno bagel. I should've noticed the BLT came with cheese, I wasn't prepared for that and didn't care for it. The tots had just been fried and were a perfect mixture of crispy and fresh. And the pickle added a nice touch to the flavor. As much as I love a bagel and cream cheese, there's nothing like a warm, sloppy bagel sandwich full of good stuff. The menu at Bearded Bagel is large. I chose the Hipster, which has veggie cream cheese, lettuce, tomato and cheddar on an everything bagel. It wasn't a gut bomb like a lot of bagel sandwiches can be -- probably because it was all vegetables and spread (and cheese). It was great and a perfect lunch sandwich. My husband got the Urban Farmer, which claims to include "all the veggies we have," plus avocado, pepper jack cheese and provolone on a plain bagel. He really liked his sandwich, but wasn't a fan of the messiness. I guess you need to know going in that most bagel sandwiches are going to make a mess. The bagels at Bearded Bagel are steamed bagels, which are a particular style of bagel. They are a little wetter and chewier than a typical bagel. Steamed bagels are not my favorite, but the bagels at Bearded Bagel make me forget that steamed bagels are not my favorite because they're so good. They also sell things like tater tots, pickles, bags of chips, cookies, brownies and bottled sodas.
