I came here during happy hour and met some friends. Pro tip - they've got late night happy hour from 10 - close Fridays and Saturdays! The inside is super cozy, with darker, intimate lighting. We chose to sit in front of the fire on the leather couches. It was a rainy day, so I was really feeling some winter vibes. Would be great to return here then to really get the full experience! We ended up getting a cheese pizza and a pepperoni pizza, both personal sizes cut into four pieces. The cheese was $6.50 and the pepperoni was $7.50. I actually really enjoyed them - definitely nothing fancy but they were loaded up with TONS of cheese which is just how I like it! The happy hour food menu is a little lackluster with not a ton of choices, but it's got something for everyone, so it does the job. Pints of beer were $5 and pitchers were $17. They've also got well drinks for $6. I would for sure like to return for their brunch menu. I normally want something like corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy for brunch, but they don't really have a lot of the breakfast signatures. Their lunch portion of the brunch (I know, the menu is laid out kind of weird into morning and afternoon favorites) actually sounds really good and has lots of options. What really draws me to their brunch menu though is the BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS! At $20 for bottomless I think it's a tad more expensive than other places I've been, but not too outrageous considering their mimosas range from $9 - 12. You get what you pay for on Special occasions. I would not come here often. It's very loud and noisy. We were given $100 in gift cards and used it up. I had guava cider and wegayu burger. We shared the sampler which filled me up. There is no meat candy so look at current menu. Spouse had bacon burger and creme brûlée trio, she liked vanilla the best and I helped her finish the rest. It was all fantastic. I took home most of my burger and fries. They gave me a sampling of all of the condiments. The catsup is sweet but it is not Heinz. I loved the blue cheese dressing. Didn't feel a need to leave an extra tip, as 20% charge for a party of 2 is plenty, even for stellar service, unless something is on the house or discounted. Parking was plentiful with outside parking for 90 minutes and two parking garages for three hours. Just make sure you don't park in a resident parking spot! Their happy hour includes $6 well drinks, $20 pitchers, and shareables. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have any discounts on their cocktails during happy hour but I ordered the table side old fashioned ($15) anyway. They brought out a glass that contained an ice cube infused with cherry and cherry juice and poured in the liquid with some drops of brown sugar. It was really nice to watch and even better to drink! For food we ordered the happy hour 8" cheese and pepperoni pizzas ($6.50 and $7.50 respectively), the stout infused deviled eggs ($3.50), and the russet fries with sea salt ($3.50). From the non happy hour menu I ordered the mac n cheese with bacon and smoked gouda ($11). Even though it was under the sides section it was filling and really good! The sweetness of the caramelized onions balanced out the saltiness from the cheese and the bacon; the frizzled onions added a nice crunch on top. The pizzas were decent, the deviled eggs were really good, and the fries were at a good salt level but not as much on the crispy side. The place gives the feel of a (very) large social space where there are conversations everywhere but still intimate to hear the person sitting across from you. We were seated quickly in the bar for lunch and the service was quick and friendly. They do now automatically add a 20% service charge, which I don't have a problem with, but just so you know. It was a fairly laid back atmosphere, not too loud even with the TVs on. The food was tasty. Their pear and goat cheese salad was large and full of flavor but you might want to ask for the dressing on the side as it was pretty drenched. Service was good but the real draw back was their 20% service charge that is 100% retained by Beardslee. The food is already on the more expensive side plus a service charge that doesn't go directly back to the servers is frustrating. I sure hope their wages are well compensating for the staff. To tip our server should we really need to pay an additional 40% on pricey food(for example $20 happy hour nachos that were not very big)? I don't think I would return. I love their mushroom and Brie cheese burger! However, a bit disappointing to see that they now include a mandatory 20% tip for every bill. I used to be a restaurant industry service worker, so I understand the work for tips but this makes me feel a bit cheated as a customer. I had an enjoyable time here! I went for a work lunch a few weeks ago and loved what my co-workers ordered so I decided to visit with the fam. We ordered the brussel sprouts to start, so delicious! I've been here a couple of times with my family (party of 7) on Saturdays for brunch and they've been surprisingly empty, which is nice for us as there's no wait times for tables, though this place is HUGE and I can't imagine what it's like when it's packed. Anyway, I've had the avocado toast and the eggs Benedict with French fries. Both were okay, but I prefer the Benedict. Fries are really good though. The portions are decent so I've shared them with my hubby. My daughter got the kids Mac and cheese which was just okay. My sister and I got the bottomless mimosas, which are $22/person so it shakes out if you have 3 or more :) Right now they have Ace Guava Cider, which is my absolute favorite hard cider, and hard to find out in the wild, and that is exciting. All of the staff have been awesome. Friendly and efficient. We asked if they ever pack out since we've seen it pretty empty for brunch and they say they're busier during dinner and if there's a sporting event (big screen in back dining hall). We have been here a few times over the years here and there. It does seem like the food was better 6 or so years ago. Doesn't look like they make their house made sausages like they used to, which was a huge draw for my husband. We were pleasantly surprised to have been here today (Saturday) and there was a happy hour going on. We ordered the wings, big portion, tons of sauce, PIPING HOT, pretty good. We love spicy wings, these were sweet, but still super crispy. Smash burger on happy hour was meh. Bun was too big, too much, patty was plain, lacked salt/flavor, caramelized onions were barely caramelized. Just ok in my book. The Smash burger at Rare Society blow this one out of the water. Poutine fries were decent, lots of gravy. Server was super friendly. We liked that the patio was open, for a rare non rainy day. Atmosphere decent. Came in tonight for a reservation of seven and got sat at a table for six (the table didn't really accommodate our group comfortably). The server only came to our table a couple times to take our drink order, food order, and then one more time at the end of our meal to check how the food was and to deliver checks. The food was alright but not anything memorable. We had a problem with a steak being way over cooked (ordered medium rare but it came out medium well almost well done) but because we were never checked on it wasn't something that was fixed. Spoke to a manager after we had paid and they offered a gift card for future use, which we denied because we don't intend to return. On our Christmas trip to visit family in the area we were referred here the old fashioned way, word of mouth. We came in the evening of Sunday before Christmas Eve. It was busy but not packed, and we were seated right away. Service was friendly yet a bit stiff. Hard to describe except maybe the waiters last job was at a steak house or someplace a bit more formal. Still a great experience just the one slightly disjointed part of it. We had poutine to start - absolutely wonderful. The gravy was very flavorful and the fries were crisp enough to resist becoming saturated but not so much that they were dry or hard. For the main course I got their filet. It was perfect. The fries that came with it were hardly touched in part because we'd filled up on poutine first, and in part because they were overly salty. That was the one negative experience with the food that kept this from being a perfect experience from that perspective. For dessert we shared the creme brulee which is presented in three dishes with three different flavors. The regular/vanilla creme brulee was good, but the bourbon creme brulee was simply wonderful! The chocolate was another story. We both agreed it was indistinguishable in taste from the leftover milk in a bowl of a chocolate kids cereal. Not enough chocolate! Sometimes your is experience is made by the service you receive. Had lunch today and had the pleasure again of having April as our waitress. I LOVE HER! She's the type you can talk to about anything with, the warm, friendly, personable, sweet, open, caring authentic, and REAL type of person! Plus, she hustles! Yes, she works super hard! I tipped her extra because of how amazing she is! Leadership should honestly give her a raise. I went to another restaurant a few days ago and they were closed because the staff didn't come to work. These days, I understand it's really hard to find good employees. My hope is that this company takes exceptional care of their phenomenal employees! Was pretty disappointed with Beardslee. Service was friendly but inattentive. The food was a big let down. What we got: Sweet potato fries were ok, standard pub fare. Beardslee sampler was decent, mushrooms were too oily and the pretzel was pretty poor and tasted old. Fried chicken entree was poor. 2 very small sad pieces of white meat chicken on top of green beans that weren't even trimmed and a congealed mess of gravy and mashed potatoes. The audacity to charge $26 for this is pretty astounding. Jambalaya was pretty weak as well, overcooked chicken, not much sausage and the rest was like rice a Roni. I feel like Beardslee has an identity crisis. Is it a pub, a gastro pub, or a John Howie restaurant? It nods at all 3 but not successfully. $110 for 2 very disappointed people. I used to come here quiet often and bring friends and family because I really enjoyed this restaurant. In my opinion, their food portions have shrunk dramatically and do not match the price listed on the menu for what diners are served. The fish and chips come with 2 tiny "fish stick" size pieces? Had to ask for a side of hot sauce to dip into for some taste. - Stuffed mushrooms: Mushrooms were overcooked (quite shriveled). Sausage on top was very tasty, a bit on the salty side, but balanced well when eating with something bland like their side salad. - Side green salad: Ordered with the white vinaigrette and it was extremely bland. I came here after work for a meal with my coworkers. We were saying our last goodbye to one of coworkers and this place just happened to be down the street. I had been here before remembering the food was okay so I decided I would order something off the menu for another try. We got a few poutines for the table to share and on my own I got the sausage sampler. The poutine was really good; the flavor of the gravy, the fries not being soggy and the cheese curds. The sausage sampler was also really good. I liked the dipping sauces and the pickled onions on the side. For the drink, I went with the apple cinnamon Moscow mule. It was heavy on the cinnamon side so be aware. Otherwise, it was a good drink. I was torn besides that and one of the others listed on their cocktail menu. They have a large selection of beer, a few ciders, some cocktails and I think a few choices for wine. Everyone seemed pleases with their drinks and food. This place was actually much bigger than I remember it being. It is a good place for a large group meal. It definitely fits its name as a pub and you get that type of vibe from the decor and atmosphere inside.
