This is A small mom & pop steakhouse in a small Montana town, and off the highway. The front facade is unassuming and deceiving. Looks like a common brick building. Inside is a small bar and dinning area. The appetizers are thoughtful. The Nachos featured thick tortilla chips, queso, jalapeños, fresh homemade pico and pulled pork. The steak was perfectly cooked, juicy and full of flavor with a nice outer char. Great selection of local beer. Meal came with baked potato and chili verde soup which was almost like a stew. Oh my gawd.....what an awesome bar. Laidback atmosphere, no pressure to drink, eat and get out, a decent list of beers from different micro breweries around the state, good food, all in one place. I stopped in for a late lunch / early dinner. The menu had more offerings than I usually see in these small town bars and that alone was impressive. The chicken noodle soup was a special on this day and I would gladly take a vat of that home: Cubed carrots, and large noodles were overtaken by the sheer volume of chicken pieces. All brought together with sage in the perfect broth. The stuffed mushrooms were not the soggy mess I typically come across, but were crispy on the outside-- even after taking them home to re-heat. One of the main specials that night was the steak -- one of two. it did not disappoint. It was cooked exactly as I asked but was huge. I ordered the smaller of the two options so I wonder about the size of the other. The meal comes with the individual loaf of bread. I rarely see that anymore, except in these small town bars. His was overcooked. We told the waitress and she was indifferent about it. Tables are hightop and close together/crowded. At 40 dollars per steak, we expected better meat and better service for the overcooking of it. Once was a family favorite, since the new owners changed over and heard some rumors about it we had not been but stopped in for lunch today. We walked in ten minutes after opening, 2 tables had already been sat and their orders taken. We sat at the bar, and after being shocked at the price for the beloved prawns, we decided on burgers. My burger was so over cooked, the bun was dry, I could only eat half. My husbands was the same. The wait time to get our food was 30 minutes, which we thought seemed a little excessive for being so dead in there. Waitress wasn't attentive enough to bring any of our issues to her, we would have liked to take some desserts to go but we were over the whole experience. We have come here several times from Cody and have never been disappointed! The last time we ate there we had the Prime Rib and jumbo prawns special. Wow!!!! The Prime Rib was so so tender and seasoned well and the prawns were huge. The meal came with warm mini loaf of delicious bread and a choice of soup or salad. We both took home over half our dinners and enjoyed it again the next night. On other occasions we have had there burgers, fish & chips and ribeye steaks. All excellent. Everything was absolutely delicious up until a chicken salad that was ordered . It was inedible. Just gross ...from the wilted lettuce to the dressing ..For some reason we didn't say anything at the time but probably should have for a $17 salad. But I just wanted you to be aware that the salads on paper looked absolutely delicious but when served it was another story . At least that day it was . Otherwise everything was so good. Edgar Bar was the first place that I had a great meal when I came to Billings, as anyone knows a good meal is not easy to find in Billings, Montana. We decided to go again last night, and it was as good as it gets again, BUT, they are serving a " Salad " that frankly looked as if it was sitting on the side of the road for a few days and then ended up on this little pathetic plate....Too bad. Further, I ordered the "Clams", $17.00 and it was just stupid, little tiny clams and the 'meat' was almost microscopic, tweezers should be provided. WORSE yet, more than half the shells were empty. Great broth, I liked the broth, should call it a clam soup, ** Had to ask for bread to soak up this broth. The Oswald T-Bone was as god as a T-Bone can get, incredible! The Edgar Rib Eye that too is a great choice, You guys have GOT TO GET RID OF THAT NASTY SALAD THAT IS BEING DUMPED ON THE TABLE. Mushroom burger was the best, I loved it! Do Not Get Me Wrong here, this is a great place to eat. Mariah and Anna were great, the servers here are also the best, very accommodating and friendly. The other Gorilla sitting in the room is this, the drinks are weak, we had t o order a side shot upon realizing this place pours a measured shot....not generous with the booze. What in the world happened to Easter Brunch March 31, 2024? I had the sausage "thing". Re heated quiche with barely warm "roasted" potatoes. Kind of made me wonder if they are recycling the aluminum pans from the reheated frozen food and, "where is your costco receipt?" My daughter had the biscuits and gravy... dry, old, unappetizing biscuits and what was described as canned gravy. Can't recycle those cans. One more chance under the new owners but, it is not looking like a destination any longer. New wait staff. I did not recognize any of the faces and they all appeared to be much younger than the ladies I have seen before. My Easter experience is in sharp contrast to my previous experience of warm, fresh, great tasting food. I prefered the original waitstaff who presented themselves as real and did not have a "sing-song" voice to add the their fake sincerity. Hooter-esq waitstaff at best. It is Easter and perhaps the real help went to church or were pointing out hidden eggs to their own children. 100% this place looks like a dilapidated dive bar when you drive up but if it's late afternoon it will soon turn into a packed hot spot for dinner. We sat at the bar and Daemon helped us, they do have a outdoor dining area as well. He was attentive and funny and patient with our questions. The beer selection was minimal but they had an IPA and it went well with the fried apps we got. Bull fries (otherwise known as Rocky Mountain oysters) were a bit chewy as they normally are and had a nice horseradish ketchup. The provolone wedges were light and the fried pickles (though they were the long sandwich slices and not chips) came with a delightful dill sauce. Edgar has recently been added to the 'best steaks in Montana' list and their local cuts did not disappoint. We had a ribeye and a NY sirloin, beautiful marbling, fabulous flavor and perfectly cooked. The ribs too were very well prepared but they were definitely upstaged by the steaks. If you're coming back to Billings from Cody, you have to stop in for some grub, preferably a local steak! read more

This is nothing like the Edgar Bar and Grill of a year ago. It's pathetically overpriced and the food quality has dropped. Sadly it was a favorite of ours for the past 6 years but not anymore. Who in their right minds pays $40 bucks for several prawns. The steaks are overpriced and simply not that good. You'd be better off going to the local supermarket and buying a decent steak and cooking it yourself. Plus make sure you don't get a seating facing the kitchen. It's totally scary seeing a group of employees running around in shorts and sandals supposedly tending to food preparation. It's not a good situation to see staff mopping the kitchen floor with a filthy mop while others are preparing food. NOPE not going back there anymore. read more

One of the best Stakes you will get. We had 6 of us and every stake was cooked to perfecting and when you ask for Medium it comes out medium. A diamond in the rough! This place was suggested to us through a friend and we were told the steaks were the best. We were not disappointed! I ordered the Prime Rib and my daughter the half rack of ribs. The prime rib was superb and rivaled any of the steakhouses in large cities that I have traveled - if not better. The ribs were melt in your mouth, the meat literally fell off the bone it was so tender. The place def has a down to earth ambiance and is not pretentious, which is nice. Pulling up and looking at the exterior, you would never know that this is a 5 star restaurant. Will definitely be back. I highly recommend reservations, we made them for 8pm and they got us right in. Stopped by for lunch. Wanted shrimp but they only had the dinner available and a $31 dollar lunch plate is too stiff for me. We had a cocktail before lunch and I had a vodka, ginger with muddled mint and lemon, it was okay, it was $8.75, which in my opinion is a bit high for the atmosphere, outside or in, and a very casual eating place. We had the special which was beef stroganoff and it was delightful!! Big chucks of meat, our server explained they make the stroganoff from their hand trimmed steaks! The noodles were small and cooked perfectly. The sauce was rich and creamy, would have this again and the price was reasonable. We also had nachos which were run of the mill and we had to ask for salsa! I think they might be pricing themselves out of some biz! I am willing to pay for great! I am willing to travel for great!
