We come up for a week every year, and the last couple times we've wanted to try this place. So glad we made the stop today! My wife loves eating outside, and loves hearing/seeing water, so this checked off those boxes. Nice to see they're very pet friendly too! For starters, our waitress Kiersten was a DELIGHT! So sweet, knew the menu, and a pleasure to talk with. She needs to get props for making our first visit so enjoyable, that we WILL be coming back! It was before 5pm and we wanted to take it easy, so we ordered the brussel sprouts app and the Philly Cheesesteak to share. Great choices! The fried sprouts app was HUGE and delicious, especially dipped into their homemade ranch! So much that we brought a third of it home! The Philly was very flavorful and the curly steak fries were crispy and filling! Barely walked in the door, and the staff was waiting to see us. The restaurant was bustling with business and I didn't stop the staff from being attentive, friendly and expeditious with our service. Great place to sit and relax by the creek and enjoy some good food and a beer or cocktail. Stopped in with my son after an hour long walk at Lake Junaluska. We both enjoyed a beer and each ordered a pizza. They have a pizza oven so the pizzas are great. I had the margarita flatbread and my son had the Appalachian pizza. The place is beautiful and right on the river. The staff also seems very nice. And they have four different kitchens. Unfortunately, I ordered from the wrong one. I was in the mood for Thai food but they don't open the Thai kitchen until 4 pm and I was too early. So, I went with the $14 meatball and garlic bread. The meatball wasn't as big as I thought it would be and it had a standard taste. Nice presentation though. I also had to deal with bees once I got my food, and prior to that, it took about ten minutes to get a beer, which was lukewarm. This obviously wasn't a 4-star experience but if I'm trusting my vibe, I think I had bad timing and the place is very good. Definitely a cool vibe! I'll try again another time. We just stopped in for an appetizer and a drink and it was fun. They have both their in house brews along with a full bar and some creative cocktails. We had the smoked trout spread with pita and it was very very good. The beverages were on point and the service was adequate. The good: Our server was very nice! The piano player is excellent. The beer selection is okay if you like an East Coast IPA--no West Coast IPA. Food choices are varied--pizza, Thai menu and grilled meat and fish/shrimp. The bad: we went with Thai. Afraid it would be super hot, we asked for mild. It had no spicy taste at all. My partner had a dish with beef filet tips that were very chewy with some inedible. My Pad Kraphao (?) with chicken was very mild but was lukewarm. Worst restaurant I've ever been to. I can't judge them on the food. We literally went three times: at 3 o'clock, 7 o'clock and at 8 o'clock only to tell me that the restaurant wasn't serving food before three or wasn't serving food after seven so you have a three hour window from 4 to 7 to potentially get food. I'm not sure if they're just lazy or they don't want the business but I wouldn't waste my time going for food because there's only a three hour window to get it. I'm sure there are other establishments in Maggie Valley that would appreciate your business after the tragic flooding. The wait staff were rude and indifferent, maybe it's because they can't find good staff, either way I'd stay clear of it there other places in town that would appreciate your business. read more

One thing they need to look at is i saw two different couple sit at the table and got up and left before no one greeted them. They need to have at least one employee welcoming people and tell them how things work or a large sign up front explaining things. I've visited BearWaters a few times with mixed experiences. If you're able to get a table by the water, it's a lovely ambiance, otherwise it's just your standard bar vibe. On the most recent visit, we waited about 30 minutes for a table, which was fine. I asked if I could have a lemonade made with lemon juice and simple syrup instead of from the fountain (which was offered as a cocktail on the menu) and our server said the bartender didn't know how to do that. He ended up attempting it, and I was served water with a splash of lemon juice. Strange. The beers are fine, fairly standard. The tavern-style pizza was a bit overdone but edible. read more

I asked for a paper bill after everybody already paid except me . She acted pissed because I asked for a paper bill. So she ended up getting approximately $100.00 Tip from the table . Waitress said we have several kitchens wasn't that nice apparently this causes confusion. 35 minutes after they got food and ate i finally got mine. It was good but would of liked to eat with my family. They did comp flatbread keep money serve near same time as other food. Just wow! Our party of 5 came in for afternoon apps and drinks and this place did not disappoint. Really nice indoor seating (open area) and the outdoor seating overlooks the creek. Laid back vibe and extremely clean. Super friendly and helpful staff. We ordered beer flights (all of them were delicious ... the aged barrel tripel literally tastes like whiskey!). We ordered a cheese flatbread and the fields flatbread - they were absolutely delicious!!! Prices are great too. We will definitely be back next time we come to Maggie Valley. Very positive experience here after our friends wanted to come back for a second day in a row. I liked the brown ale beer wise (more than the sliding rock ale that for me was a little lacking in flavor) and my friend liked her cocktail. We shared the wings and fried pickles as apps. The pickles were my favorite! Not too oil-e and the perfect batter to pickle ratio. For mains we had the rib eye steak with delicious mashed potatoes and the also tried the drunken noodles. I was surprised by the side Thai selections because it's different than the rest of their menu but the food held up. Finally, we shared a Mediterranean salad with homemade balsamic dressing. I'm a 50 year old man and I've had pot roast my whole life. Tonight I had it at this restaurant and it was the best pot roast I've ever had.

Solid combination of brews, burgers, and views. The menu also included some flatbreads and rice bowls, but I went for their signature burger and it was on point. Most of the beers weren't absolutely life changing amazing, but all were good. The cherrywood smoked porter was my personal favorite. It was solid and that's a rare style to find. For a moment I felt like a real mountain man drinking my smoky porter by the creek (before I got back in the rental minivan). The restaurant/brewery features a large nice patio right on the creek with great views. I could sit back there all day. We rode through Maggie Valley today (March 30, 2024). Not much open yet this time of year so we were glad to find BearWaters Brewing open. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside on the deck above the water. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. We started out with the giant pretzel which was good, and we both had the cheesesteaks which were very good. It's always a pleasant surprise to find good food in touristy areas. Also, since many restaurants now charge a credit card fee, it was refreshing to see this restaurant be upfront about it. They literally listed the credit card and cash prices separately on the bill, so we knew exactly what we were paying. Most other places we've been to only list the higher credit card price, so if you are paying cash you wind up paying an extra 4% without even knowing it. They were under renovations when we visited so half the inside was closed off. It was hard to figure out where to order drinks as there was a pizza counter right when walking in. We ordered beers and apparently it was seat yourself, although many empty tables were dirty. We tried sitting on some stools but the front door was propped open even though rainy and cold. There were a few tables with families and lots of toddlers crying and horseplaying so that was frustrating, but it seemed like a decent spot for food and drinks. It was not unusual that we happened upon a brewery in rural North Carolina, but what WAS unusual was the large selection of Thai food also available. The Thai food was definitely the star! I started with a bowl of the Tom Kha soup which was piping hot and very flavorful. The cilantro, chilis, coconut, and chicken made for a delicious combination of flavor. For our meals, my table mate and I had the shaking beef (him) and the drunken noodles + shrimp (me). I really enjoyed my taste of the shaking beef. It was sticky and sweet and reminded me of burnt ends. I've had drunken noodles before but this plate was unlike any other I've had. Usually the sauce is thick and sticks to the noodles but this sauce was more liquidy and the fresh cabbage and carrots were able to soak it up. Also there wasn't a ton of bell pepper which was more than fine in my book! They have a variety of beer on tap, with some rotating handles. I couldn't decide on one so I ordered a flight and went with the American ale, a brown ale, a blueberry gose, and their hard lemonade. I really enjoyed the lemonade - would be VERY easy to have too much! It's recommended to mix the blueberry gose and the hard lemonade together which I didn't do, but I imagine was delicious. Our server, whose name I didn't catch, was attentive and brought out our drinks and food quickly. Definitely would stop in again if I'm ever back in this part of the country. read more

Our family ( 7 adults, 3 kids) stopped here after snow tubing. There was a sign when we walked in to see the hostess to be seated. There was no hostess and when we could get someone's attention he or she told us when they had a table available they would seat us. They did not write names down. You just had to be diligent in making sure you knew when it was turn to be seated. They did let us know they were understaffed, so, certain food and drinks were not available. The food was definitely different and delicious. We got a pizza with apple butter, cheese, feta, and sausage. The pretzel is a great appetizer for the entire table. It was huge! This place is at the bottom of Cataloochee Mountain and a perfect place to stop to relax after a ski day. They have various seasonal beers that rotate but also ones that stay on tap as well. The lemonade beer and seasonal snownado are two of our favorites. The staff is helpful and happy to let you try before you get a pint. You order everything at the bar when you walk in then you find a seat. They give you a number to bring food out to you. They have indoor and outdoor seating. read more
