It's been a minute but felt like seconds. Asked to join fond friends for dinner here and what a treat! We were seated promptly and the service started and ended in spectacular fashion. Our waiter Lee was a familiar face and very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The menu was full of fabulous choices and I just couldn't resist the foie gras appetizer. I've never tasted foie Gras prepared this way. I was not disappointed. Lovely seared four gras sitting upon a bed of lentils with a beautiful consommé poured over top. A few mushrooms were sat into this lovely mix. Dredged bread, slice of foie and lentils topped with a slice of mushroom. YUM Washed down with an extraordinary Grand Cru...oof! The duck was perfect with an amazing crust that really elevated the dish. The olives, dates were tasty morsels! Halibut looked wonderful and my seat mate enjoyed it very much. Our first time at Beaujolais Bistro. We love French food and thought it a good place to celebrate our 56th wedding anniversary. We made reservations for 5.30 and were seated promptly. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Drinks were served promptly. We chose bacon wrapped dates to start (delicious) . Husband chose seafood appetizer and I chose the French onion soup. Both very good but my soup was barely warm which was disappointing. Husband chose filet steak as main course and I had the scallops. Tried his steak and it was excellent. My scallops were tasty but they were placed on some mashed potato that was the consistency of soup as it had mixed with the liquid from the cooked tomatoes giving it a very unpleasant taste and presentation. Again, the meal was barely warm although the plate was red hot (!). We decided against desert finishing the meal instead with coffee. Sad to say, again, the coffee was barely warm and I needed to drink it right away before it cooled even more. The ambiance and service were good and you may wonder why I didn't address the barely warm food and watery mashed potato with the waiter......the restaurant became very busy and is obviously very popular. I didn't want to disrupt the other diners with constant complaints - it has a very intimate vibe and tables are relatively close. Wimpish reason I know but why disturb other diners experience. I would be tempted to maybe give it a second chance but have to say that overall it was not a memorable evening. read more

First time at Beaujolais, will not be my last! Nestled adjacent to the Truckee River, the vibe is impeccable. Cozy, refreshing, in an older bungalow, casual but elevated, this restaurant offers it all. We snuck in a reservation during the weekday, and were quickly sat, and scored an outdoor seat. The staff were attentive and conversational. The menu is rotating, offering up what is seasonally available, so note that when combing through your reservations! Pictured are the steak frites and the Muscovy Duck, both of which were wonderful. Was really looking forward to our visit to Beaujolais bistro for sometime as I had heard good things. The outdoor ambiance near the river was beautiful as was the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the food and service were not so much. The exception was the Vieux Carre cocktail, but it felt like eons before we got our drink. I went for the prix fixe menu as it sounded intriguing, but the results were not. The squash blossom appetizer was flat and bitter, the scallop crudo was generous but oily and too tart, the crab salad was in a watery fishy broth and the tuna was overcooked and sent it back. For $100 my expectations greatly exceeded the result. My significant's steak frites were plated poorly with a display of bland meat. It took over an hour from the time I finished the crab salad to receiving our entrees. We had no updates on what the status was by our server, and this was particularly annoying when others who arrived long after us were served first. In addition, often times our finished plates would sit for extended periods as the flies and hornets had a feast. Fresh silverware was not offered when new dishes came and would be snatched by the wait staff from a neighboring table which was not on par with the classy ambience the restaurant was trying to portend. With all that said, this place does have potential to be something special, but the basics of food presentation, service and etiquette have a way to go. read more

This has been one of my favorite restaurants in Reno for the past 20 years or so. Unfortunately, nice restaurants in the Reno area are becoming more rare especially with the closing of Lulou's. Which means my once to twice a year dining experience at Beaujolais will be increasing. I celebrated my wedding anniversary at Beaujolais this week and love how easy it is to make reservations on-line. I was surprised when we were seated in their other room, I believe they call it their East Wing. I had no idea they had grown so much! This was also the best service I ever had there! My water glass was never empty, after eating the complimentary bread to quickly, another small loaf was dropped off-which was very exciting! Love delicious warm and free bread! And our waiter was so friendly. Cocktails, wine and food is always amazing there! Though I usually always get the steak frites, I do change up the apps and dessert and this time I ordered bacon wrapped dates and they were very good but had a powerful blue cheese flavor. I also love going to places where the owner is frequently there and you can find the owner sitting at the bar often. read more

Pardon my French, but who knew that such a boujee, authentic French spot could exist in Reno? I'm always pleasantly surprised with the rich culinary options in Reno, and Beaujolais is definitely no exception. We stopped by this quaint, cozy bistro for a dinner, and were blown away by the rich French fare available. We opted for some classics - foie gras, escargot, and Moules frites, while exploring more adventurous options such as the venison racks. Overall, the dishes were excellently executed in terms of flavors and technique (with the exception of the foie gras, which was overwhelmingly liver-based), although the pacing of the dishes could probably be better on a not so busy weekday night. All 4 cocktails we tried were also very well crafted, with our favorite being the Side Car. Overall, prices are a bit on the higher side (as expected for French cuisine), but well warranted and definitely worth checking out for a special occasion! Oh Beaujolais, what can I say? For the longest time this restaurant was the only French place in town with quality food and distinct service. I started going here since I moved to town, 2019, and have seen the same wait staff, but improved service and highly curated menu items. I have been here for just about every occasion you could think of; birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, you name it. This review will be the long-standing tradition of Beaujolais Nouveau, which I've had a pleasure of attending for the third time. I reached out on Instagram and called the restaurant to see if there was any specials for tonight which they did confirm, however mention that there was not a prix fixe for tonight. Regardless, we still attended our reservation and was met with a pleasant surprise that not only did they have the specialty wines for today, but they also had a brief prix fixe to celebrate for the night For Beaujolais Nouveau, the prix fixe was set to mussels in a white wine sauce for appetizer, beef bourguignon as the entrée and chocolate soufflé for dessert. I've just had all of these items in the long time that I've been dining here, and each item still held in quality. Keep in mind this is much more of a romantic date night restaurant where voices are kept low, French music is playing at candlelight and the bill can get quite steep. Nonetheless Chef Bill does a great job at maintaining and running this beautiful restaurant. Highly recommend. read more

Where do I begin? Our small dining group has been treating ourselves to nice restaurants for each of our birthdays for dinner for several years now. We usually go to a well regarded local steakhouse but this time we decided to visit Beaujolais Bistro. We made the reservation on Resy and mentioned in the reservation that we were celebrating two birthdays with this dinner. While it was obvious that a couple of other tables were celebrating birthdays the birthdays at our table were not acknowledged. We were quickly seated and drink orders taken, but it took a little while before the drinks arrived. We ordered the bacon wrapped date appetizer which was tasty, but the presentation was a bit u inspired in my opinion. It seemed like they were just haphazardly plopped in a bowl. The appetizer plate I was given still had something from the previous diner on it, but was quickly exchanged for a more clean one. I had the French Onion Soup as a starter which I thought was delicious. Another one of my friends had it as well and said it was O.K. the other two had the seasonal squash soup and said it was merely O.K. For dinner I ordered the Hanger Steak Frites. It was tender and tasty. My friend had the Scallops which he said were too salty. And the two birthday men ordered the Beef Bourgignon which was described as being served with "Pommes Purée" (mashed potatoes) but came with boiled potatoes. And instead of being prepared and presented as a hearty stew with the vegetables cooked with the meat in the sauce the onion, carrots and potatoes were presented as a side to the meat and the carrots and onion were more on the undercooked side. When we mentioned the thing about the mashed potatoes we think we scared the waiter. For desert we ordered two pumpkin cheesecakes, the Sorbet Trio and the crepes. I thought my sorbets were delicious. I wish the portion would have been a little bigger. The cheesecake eaters mentioned a bitter taste that they couldn't quite identify. One of them likened it almost to a vinegar taste and the Crepes were also described as disappointing. In fact when looking at the picture of the cheesecake I couldn't tell if it was the crepes or the cheesecake. They were both a bit of a blob. The service that evening was probably the biggest downfall and largest contributor to my rating. It was slow. We weren't asked how our entree's were. We weren't asked if we wanted another drink or another glass of wine. We had ask for the glass of iced tea to be refilled before desert. And finally even though we had been told someone would return to push the plunger down on our French Press coffee we ended up having to push that down ourselves. So overall it was a little bit of a disappointing experience. read more

We loved our special dinner here when visiting Reno! The ambiance was upscale yet inviting - everything was beautifully decorated but still felt cozy. We were seated in a booth by the window with a view of the kitchen. The menu changes daily from my understanding, and they were out of some of our first choices because we dined closer to closing. However, everything we ordered was exceptional. To start, I got a cognac, blackberry, and thyme (?) cocktail. It was new, not yet on the menu, and hadn't been named yet. It was incredibly well balanced, and this is coming from someone who normally does not enjoy cognac! We shared the crab salad, which featured the welcome addition of fennel - super refreshing. The kitchen was kind enough to bring the dish already split, which made sharing easier. For mains, we picked the hanger steak and the rack of lamb. The steak was great, but the lamb was the real standout. It was perfectly tender, not overly seasoned, but really just highlighting the quality of the meat. For dessert, we shared the incredibly rich chocolate mousse. While this dinner was not cheap, Beaujolais is well worth it if you're looking to celebrate. Four of us went there for dinner last night. While they were busy, there were still a few open tables. We were promptly greeted and seated. I was looking forward to the dinner, but the food was just OK. Nothing really wowed me. Additionally, the service could have been much better. While it looked like there was a lot of staff, the service just seemed chaotic. In all honesty, we had limited contact with our server. In one instance after he took our dessert order, he walked off. We had to call him back to the table to tell him we also wanted coffee with our dessert. I was a little surprised by that and still not sure why he didn't ask if we wanted coffee. The ambience is nice, but there are two separate dining rooms separated by an outdoor breezeway. So, every time customers or restaurant staff would open the door used to go into the additional dining room, the temperature in the main dining room dropped. It wasn't terrible last night because it was a relatively warm evening. I can't imagine what it would feel like onna cold January or February winter evening. I was really looking forward to having dinner there last night. Unfortunately, I left a little disappointed. At the prices that they charge, I expected more. read more

Our first experience at Beaujolais - the cutest little French bistro in downtown Reno on the riverfront. With indoor and outdoor seating this is the cutest lil bistro. We went with another couple on a Friday night - with reservations. The restaurant wasn't too busy at 6:15 but a steady stream filled the place. We started off with cocktails and the hubby had a Diet Coke that took way too long to arrive (and 3 requests from the bar?) We ordered appetizers (escargot and pate), soup and salad and mains. The soup (French onion) was delivered with my beet salad and before the appetizers. They were both delicious albeit out of order! Then the mains were delivered. We brought it to their attention that our appetizers hadn't yet arrived and they graciously made good (comp'd appys and a round of drinks) on the error and they ended up being well worth the wait! I had the squash blossoms (very good) and hubby had the cod (small and delicious portion) We finished with dessert (hubby had profiteroles) and a port. I'd like to go back and sit outside on a mild evening, the restaurant is cute and inviting. I would recommend but only for a leisurely dining experience - we were there about 3 hours in total. Listen, the food here is good, don't get me wrong. I found myself say "oh yea that's good" quite a bit. Well prepared and well executed- everything we tried. I had the confit and foie gras for my main dish and it was a 7/10. Deanna F had the hanger steak frites and the steak was 8/10- fries were prepared well and bernaise sauce was -pretty- good. The French onion soup we split 4 ways lol it was very good. Profiteroles 6/10 (ice cream wasn't that great and pastry was a bit too chewy), and mousse 9/10. I kept going back and forth over how many stars to give and I just had to hold back because while it was nice to have a long leisurely meal with friends, the food took too long. Like way too long for every course. They were probably busier than normal I don't know, but you're a French restaurant- if the kitchens backed up- do something about it. AmuseBouche maybe?because the appetizers took almost 25 minutes to come out. It was an hour and a half almost from when we sat down to when we got our mains. Our server was good, her support was fine but that was not acceptable service without some kind of amends. We were sat out on our own in the secondary seating room and candidly you do kind of feel a bit of an afterthought.. the decor in there is sparse and the stemware and all that feels kind of secondary, but the main room and bar were cute what we saw of it. read more

When it comes to French dining, my question when I depart is whether I experienced something memorable for my pallat. And the bistro certained met that criteria. The bacon wrapped dates appetitzer was delightful. The squash curry soup with apple had the right blend of flavors. The hanger steak entry was quite good though perhaps the least remarkable part of the meal. And we enjoyed raspberry panna cotta dessert which was a fitting end to the meal. I don't drink so can't speak of the drink menu. Very professional service. Interior ambience is suitable to the setting, relaxing and intimate. Got to check this restaurant out for first class food and nice ambiance. Wednesday night in November was hopping like a Saturday. We started with wine and sparkling water. Next came the delicious pumpkin seed crusted quail and exquisite watercress pear salad. Entrees chosen were steak with fries and filet mignon. Can't say enough about how perfect these dishes were. If you cook a lot, you won't be disappointed. Excellent food! One word to management- your hostess should greet EVERYONE at the door with a warm welcome. This is truly a fine dining restaurant uniquely designed in a historic brick house on the Truckee river. The ambiance is classy, spacious, warm and cozy. The staff is personable, proficient and professional. Lee was our server, always with a smile. The food is amazing, fresh, prepared and presented perfectly. The green olives appetizer was served warm with savory spices. The hanger steak, was served medium rare in a wine sauce beside frites (French fries) and bernais sauce. The halibut was flaky and moist with lemon beurre blanc sauce, ramps, morels, potatoes. The asparagus and leek soup was hearty and flavorful. The desserts were delicate and delicious. I quite literally stumbled up Beaujolais Bistro and now I am their biggest fan and soon to be regular. I've been twice now and both times the ever changing menu featured delicious classic french dishes and seasonal specialties and I'm torn if I like the cocktail menu or wine list better. It's hard to describe Beaujolais Bistro as anything but charming. We sat outside on the deck where we enjoyed a nice quiet dinner overlooking the walking path and the Truckee River. The server was friendly and attentive making the overall night and service quite pleasant. I ordered the pork chop in a Dijon Sooubise sauce that was rich and decadent. The pork chop was juicy and cooked to perfection but the sauce easily made the dish. The restaurant is in what looks like an old, Craftsman-style house with tables outside on the front porch. The main dining area is open with a fireplace towards one corner. Cozy but not cramped pretty much sums it up. I ordered foie gras as an appetizer and cassoulet of duck confit, sausage and pork belly in white beans. Both were very good and generous in size. The cassoulet alone could easily feed two people well. Maybe even three. There was a slight hiccup with the appetizer - the chef missed the order so it took a bit to arrive. The server apologized and graciously comped it. At $36, that was a welcome surprise. The rest of the staff were very friendly and welcoming, as well. They all greeted me as if I were a regular. This was our first time dining at Beaujolais and it was such a wonderful experience! It is expensive but the cost guarantees you have great tasting food and a nice atmosphere. Everything tasted so fresh, the staff were fantastic, and the ambiance was perfect. We had our reservation at 5:15 for dinner which was nice because it was right before the dinner rush came through, so it was a little quieter and you could enjoy the atmosphere more. I did like the location since it is right across the river - and they do offer outdoor dining! I highly recommend the three sorbet dessert, it was amazing and the sorbet taste was out of this world. A fabulous restaurant for fine dining in the downtown Reno area. This place sets the standard for high end restaurants in the entire area. Quaint and dimly lit, the dining room is romantic and inviting. Although one big room, you feel tucked away at each table in your own little area. Walking in, one may feel as if they are eating at a quaint little European town restaurant. The menu has something for everyone from wild game to seafood to steaks and more. Soups and salads are creative and sizeable. They are never boring or mundane. Appetizers are also unique but let's not forget, delicious. I was with a group of seven guests and we were dining for a dinner meeting. We ordered an array of appetizers including the Brussels sprouts, duck and mushroom cigars, escargot, bacon wrapped dates and the foie gras. I thought they were all very tasty. Truly each was delicious. My only complaint would be with the foie gras. It was not seared but served cool and was not my absolute favorite but I'd have another bite again at any time. The table each had a salad. The frisée' salad came with a perfectly cooked poached egg, the caesar salad was not on the menu but if you ask they will bring it. I had the pear and watercress salad which was surprisingly delightful. One guest had the onion soup which looked absolutely amazing with melty cheese about the entire steamy top. I ordered the venison chops with a berry reduction. The sweet and gently tart sauce paired well with the medium-rare cooked and very mild gaminess of the meat giving an excellent overall taste. The scalloped potatoes were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I tasted some of my colleagues meals as well. The filet mignon had a little truffle added to the sauce which added well to the perfectly cooked beef. The sea bass was easy on the eyes and the mouth as well. Very tasty. I also was able to get a bite of one of my friends scallop dish. Perfectly cooked with flavor that just popped; it is one of their signature dishes. They offer an extensive wine list and a very unique menu of cocktails able to be stirred up by their mixologist. PROS - Attractive craftsman-like restaurant "homes" on the leafy neighborhood outside and attractive and welcoming dining rooms on the inside. - Comfortable and classy table seating near the back of the room within the 2nd house. - Excellent service that hit the attentive sweet spot. - Enormous wine list and a spot on recommendation from our waitress based on what we ordered. - Fabulous (and filling food) of which we all enjoyed. Jim had the Hanger Steak and Frites, while Marti had Ahi Tuna. Gayle's choice was Scallops, while mine was a vegetarian Phyllo Risotto Dish. But first for our appetizers, Jim and I loved the deliciousness of the French Onion Soup, while Gayle chose a wonderful Crab, Pineapple and Avocado Salad, and Marti checking in with a beet, goat cheese, and arugula creation. - Adult Beverages. My husband and I went to dinner here with some friends. Can't wait to go again. I didn't realize that this was a house that they converted into a restaurant. It was really nice inside. We were seated in the back by the window where we had a view of the street. Waitress came up and introduced herself and took our drink order. I had a French 75 and my husband, as usual had an old fashion. He was given the choice of regular or smoke. Both very good. I order escargot and sea bass and my husband ordered onion soup and beef bourguignon. So delicious. This is a pricey place but portions are good as is the food. read more

Beaujolais has a great location across from the river. I've been going past this restaurant for years and always wanted to give it a try, so I took the wife there for her birthday. Casual setting so it does feel comfortable. It does get loud, and it's easy to overhear other tables. A few tables over I heard an older gentleman being what I'd consider rude to the wait staff, but the wait staff handled it extremely well. Service was great, they seem very attentive and eager to provide a great experience. My water glass rarely was less than half full at all times. Our table had a little wobble to it, and without even saying anything to them, they took notice and fixed it promptly. Drink.. I went with the old fashioned. Excellently balanced and probably the best I've had to date. App.. Escargot. This was my first time trying Escargot, so I have nothing to compare it to at this point. We did finish them, but perhaps Escargot is not my thing. Entree... I went with the filet, which was accompanied by potato gratin and brocolinni. The filet was very tender, had a great crust, and cooked to a perfect medium rare. Although it could've used a bit more salt and pepper, in my opinion. The brocolinni was wonderful, and the potato had a good char on top, but I found some bites saltier than others, so the seasoning seemed a tad unbalanced.
