I've been to this restaurant multiple times with friends, and my husband, and we've always come back because of the great food and overall experience. In fact, I was just here a few weeks ago for a birthday. Unfortunately, after our most recent visit, that will likely be changing. A group of six of us came in to celebrate an early Mother's Day -- this is actually our third year choosing this spot for the occasion. We had a reservation for 1:30 PM and weren't seated until around 1:40, which wasn't a big deal. However, things quickly went downhill from there. After being seated, it took quite a while for our server to come over. He briefly apologized and said he'd be with us soon, but we didn't actually place our order until around 2:00 PM. We let him know we were celebrating Mother's Day and ordered bottomless mimosas. I even joked about keeping them coming since we were on a bit of a time crunch. Over the next hour, our server checked on us maybe three times total. By this point, the restaurant had cleared out significantly, and it seemed like he only had a few tables. The service felt extremely inattentive. I asked to speak with a manager, hoping to resolve things, but that interaction only made matters worse. The manager stood there while I explained our concerns, offering no apology, acknowledgment, or effort to address the situation. Even a simple nod or basic customer service response would have gone a long way. Shortly after, our server dropped off the bill -- even though we weren't finished and hadn't asked for it. We had to flag down another waitress just to order another round of drinks because our server was nowhere to be found. Then, to top it all off, a manager came over and questioned how many drinks we had consumed. That was honestly shocking and embarrassing. It was only around 3:00 PM. They could clearly see when we were seated, when we ordered, and we had already expressed frustration about how little we had been served. It felt completely inappropriate and accusatory. At that point, it also seemed like staff members were talking about us, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. We decided to wrap things up and leave. We were respectful customers -- no spills, no inappropriate behavior, just a group of moms enjoying a celebration with some laughter and conversation. We weren't there long enough, nor were we served enough, to justify being treated that way. It's incredibly disappointing, especially considering how much we've enjoyed this place in the past. I've been coming here for years. I was definitely a regular. The original staff-Ana and Nicole in particular, made this place what it was. Since all the original staff left to open the new location in Sparks, this place has fallen apart. I still go here but no longer choose it over other places. The food is still consistently good but the bar service, or lack of service, is my only complaint. You know what? I really, REALLY want to like this place. I do... Its super popular but it just doesn't do it for me. It doesnt vibe with me at all. Not my place. I'm not a huge fan of their menu and thas a huge problem. While I have been her several times, there always seems to be one plate at our table that needs to go back for some reason or another. The signature fish dish is good but it has some kind of funky rice that is completely off-putting. At happy hour the place is packed with everyone from Arrowcreek and Galena hills areas. Why? I'm not completely sure. Some people really like the place, and its so close to my home but I just cant get behind it. On the way back to Gardnerville, my wife could not stop talking about how good her lunch was. She ordered a blackened shrimp bowl and she shared with me one of the shrimp. It was really good, but she was really happy with a combination of flavors. If memory serves, it included mango and other fresh ingredients. Again, we're at the bottom of the Highway 50 in Carson City and she still raving. I had the mushroom burger. And it was really good. They asked me how I wanted the meat cooked and then they did it that way. When you're spending $15-$20 for a hamburger you do want it to be cooked properly. This seems to be a bit of a challenge for many establishments but this restaurant did it properly. We each had a glass of wine from their very efficient wine list. There's a wine for everybody by the glass. My wife had a glass of Rombauer Chardonnay and I had a glass of the Prisoner red blend. Our entrées went so well that we shared a dessert. It was the apple crumb something or other. It was good too. Why the four stars are not five? The ambience is beautiful, the booth we sat and was comfortable, and everybody we met was pleasant enough, but it was not five star service. Well, yesterday Sunday, was quite the experience when we went to land and ocean. We entered the restaurant about 330. We were waiting for another person in our party, so we decided to order drinks. We got our drinks we're there chatting while waiting for our other person. So our other party comes in and the lights flicker. She ordered her drink. She gets her drink and the lights go out. The waitress comes back takes our order and about 15 minutes later she comes back and says she can't even put our order in and they can't cook anything because the gas went out and the fryer is out. In the meantime, we keep seeing that they're seating people. Which is very odd to continue to seat people when you can't cook. So one in our party was starving so we asked for bread and she brought one little loaf for four people. I didn't have any, so others could have it. no problem there. And then we kept waiting, and we asked for another loaf of bread, which never came. Then the gal our waitress Haley was very courteous, and obviously felt bad as we have been sitting there probably for 45min after the order finally got put in, then waited probably a good 20 to 25 minutes by the time we got the food. Three of them are salads one with shrimp one with seared Ahi. I got a French dip. Which they had to use the grill which they were able to. But the fryer wasn't working so nobody was able to get french fries in the whole restaurant. So we chose an alternative. The kicker is when a restaurant has that big of a snafu they should do whatever they can to make it right. Comp drinks or get you an appetizer or two just to hold you over. None of that happened. We paid full price we had to wait while they were seating other people in the hopes that their kitchen equipment would get back up and running. We' were there 2 1/2 hours by the time it was all said and done. We did not linger too long after we ate our food. So we probably waited more than 45 minutes. Definitely disappointing. I've been here twice, once for happy hour and once for a late lunch. Loved it both times. The bar area was a little weird. For some reason, you are not allowed to order ANY drinks before 3pm exactly. Not even full price ones?! So that was a little disappointing, as I was thirsty and would have been totally happy to pay full price. Once it was time, waiter was attentive and snacks and drinks were quick. We tried a bunch of stuff. The melty blue cheese dip, with fresh chips, is to die for. I had to have them again, all for myself, so I returned recently for a late lunch. I sat at a table in the dining area, and enjoyed a couple of yummy martini's, the ahi tacos and of course, the dip. This was my first time dining in. It was such a high class intimate but also lively atmosphere. We had a nice cozy booth toward the front. The hostess was very thoughtful when placing us due to one of us on crutches. I loved that each item on their menu seems unique. Ex the cilantro rice was green, the blackened salmon had a chipolte mango sauce. I found for higher class dining it wasn't horrible pricing. You can get dinner for around 30$ for some items. I was surprised to see burgers on the menu. I'll be back to try one of those or brunch! We did notice a hair on our garlic cheese bread but I wasn't sure if it was mine or not to be honest. I was pretty confused by the lighting. They had downward yellow lights over the dining room. Like mustard yellow. I'm curious the reasoning behind it. Wonderful brunch today with my good friend! Her hubby gave her a gift certificate for Christmas and she shared with me. We had a booth and ordered bottomless mimosas to start. They have a wonderful brunch menu so I chose the crab cake Benedict with a light lemony sauce and crispy potatoes with green peppers seasoned just right! My friend got the breakfast sandwich which is basically a Blta but comes with egg which she declined. Very disappointing experience. We arrived as a party of five and were told to wait while the host checked table availability. While we waited, a larger party that arrived after us was seated before us and offered outdoor seating. When I asked if we could also sit outside, the host was rude and unhelpful, and we waited even longer due to what was later called a "miscommunication." Once seated, we learned the fryer was down, limiting menu options. Unfortunately, the food was also disappointing. Perfectly medium rare, buttery puree'd mashed potatoes, and some perfectly deep fried prawns that pair with a delicious sauce that's made to order, delicious and just consistent! The steak comes with a sauce over the top of it that gives you a well rounded savory and almost sour kick, matched with the sauce for the prawns you're met with a blend of sweet and savory that just leaves your taste buds happy! With the new location in Sparks, one of the manager from this location will be training the staff, he has been a consistent 5 star performer and I'm confident he'll be getting that staff in line for service and a high quality experience. Call me the outlier on this one. I wanted to love Land Ocean based on all the reviews, but based on this experience, I just don't understand it. Let me start with all of the great things about this restaurant. First starters it's a beautiful space with warm and welcoming ambience that has a feeling of comfortable luxury. The large bar at the back of the restaurant is certainly a bit of a focal point, but they've done a great job of creating separation between the bar, dining and the other dining settings as well. Reservations are easy to come by either using Yelp or directly through their website or their phone. We made ours and we're promptly greeted when we arrived, but it did take quite a while for us to actually be seated, and that was a bit of a surprise. Given the fact we made the reservation we did add one person to our party and we're not able to adjust the reservation ahead of time and they were sure to accommodate, however, that change was not the core cause of the delay in seating. It was more so the timing of the tables necessary to accommodate the group. The food is really where I felt the most let down. We started with appetizers, including the grilled artichokes and fried calamari. The artichokes were as you'd expect, and the aïoli that came with it was quite tasty. However, the artichoke seemed a bit overcooked and the leaves had trended towards the mushy side. The calamari was actually delicious with a light breaded coating akin to cornmeal and the spicy mayo it came with was a great sauce too. Beyond the appetizers, I didn't really find much of interest on the menu, but the server offered up a nightly special of a fresh halibut with curried lentils and wilted spinach. That sounded quite good so I went for that at $41. The portion of fish that I received seemed a bit smaller than the others around me and the ones I had seen coming from the kitchen, but that aside the curry lentils really lacked flavor and sort of appeared as if they sat under a heat lamp for quite some time, waiting to come to the table, the wilted spinach really was underseasoned and the portion size just generally felt small. Service was good, but not exceptional and I feel like with the price point at this restaurant and the ambience. It really should be steakhouse level stellar. Our server was definitely present and informative, but they just wasn't the same level of polish as you find in finer dining and this restaurant felt like that was something warranted. Now the entire restaurant was packed so again I am clearly the outlier on this one. I'd happily go back to the restaurant again with friends. I just don't know if it's one that I'd be choosing myself. Perhaps the brunch service or a happy hour visit could change that opinion in the future. read more

This is one of my favorite local restaurants that's on rotation for date nights! Out of the two times I've been here, both times the service, ambience, and food were all amazing! This last time my partner and I shared the Duckhorn wine that was a tasty red blend. We ordered crab cakes for appetizers which were crispy and well made. There were 3 crab cakes that came out and it was more than enough food for 2 people. Our waiter was more than happy to give us some time to be hungry again to order some entrees. We also ordered the teriyaki wagyu special and the Surf and Turf! If you love sautéed mushrooms, the teriyaki wagyu is a must. The Surf and turf is the same exact meat, except it came with tempura shrimp in a coconut sauce. I found the coconut shrimp to be underwhelming, but I also don't love coconut. For dessert we tried the seasonal cheesecake which was a delicious peach cobbler. We also got their special martini which is nothing like a traditional martini. Instead, it used pomegranate juice and was absolutely delicious if you enjoy more of a fruity taste. This afternoon we decided to drive out to the Land Ocean at the Summit. It was a 30 minute wait, but there was a place at the bar so we took it and glad we did. They had car racing on the TV. Cody the bartender was super. We had the bottomless mimosa for only $15 each. One martini is $14 it's a great deal and the best part they had my Pink grapefruit juice. I love that they fill your glass with champagne & provide you with a separate bottle for your juice. We both ordered off the brunch menu. I had the chicken and waffles. Absolutely hands down one of the best. The bourbon maple syrup was to die for and paired perfectly with the strawberry butter!! This is a must have dish! My husband is hooked on the breakfast burritos. He had the bacon and the breakfast sausage. They did charge him an additional two dollars for an extra meat, but it was well worth it. Perhaps the best meal experiences we have had in Reno. Land Ocean is an elegant restaurant with rich decor, providing an air of elegance but without the stuffiness of some "high end" restaurants. On this evening they sat our part of 4 in a corner booth, which provided both comfort but allowed a nice views of the dining area, the artwork and architectural details. Our server for the evening was Mallory. She really made our evening, friendly, welcoming and polite, she was full of great advice and guidance on favorite dishes and desserts not to miss. I would say that the entire wait staff was on point. They were attentive and professional, adding to and never detracting from a wonderful evening out with friends. We started with the Cheesy Garlic Bread (on the advice of Mallory). OMG. This was the most amazing garlic bread we have ever had. Perfectly toasted, a strong flavor of garlic, topped by the savoriness of the cheese. I could have just had the Garlic Cheesy Bread. We also ordered the French Bread. A simple sliced baguette. Delicious bread but nothing special. I ordered the Ribeye. A delicious 16 oz Ribeye cooked to perfection. The steak was rich with flavor with only a surprisingly small amount of fat. What is this witchcraft !?! It was served with roasted asparagus and mashed potatoes. This was one of the best Ribeyes I have had...anywhere. My wife ordered the Macadamia Nut Crusted Chilean Sea Bass. Served with Coconut jasmine rice, broccolini and topped with a soy-ginger glaze. Another absolutely amazing dish. The fish was moist and tender and the Soy-Ginger Glaze brought just a hint of sweetness to the dish. Delicious. One of our friends ordered the "fitness special", a flat-iron steak, served with rice and broccolini. Beautifully presented this dish was both delicious and quite the bargain. The last dish ordered was the Surf & Turf. Instead of the Sirloin, my friend upgraded to the 8oz Filet. His steak, like all the steaks were absolutely cooked to perfection. When you have a business restaurant, getting "everything right" is quite difficult, so we definitely appreciate Land Ocean getting our steaks right. Well done. The Surf & Turf was served with Tempura Shrimp and Mashed Potatoes. We exchanged the potatoes for French Fries, which were great albeit a bit on the salty side. For dessert, we ordered, on Mallory's coaching, the Creme Brulee and Lava Cake. The Lava Cake was one of the best Lava Cakes we have had anywhere, at any price. Service with a scoop of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, this was the dessert to order. The Creme Brulee I would describe as "solid". The carmelized sugar was crispy and snappy, just the right amount of thickness. The Creme was rich and flavorful and absolutely perfect texture. Overall, one of the best meals/evenings we have had since moving to Reno. If I had to nit pick, I would say the fries and butter for the French Bread were a bit on the salty side and the Ice Cream was a touch icy for my taste. Today we ordered a land /sea Benedict which is one bene with filet Mignon the second over a crabcake. We also ordered a creme brulee brioche French toast. The French toast was very good, soft and sweet creme was tasty. The bacon served without was burnt The Benedict was ordered with fried egg not poached, they were prepared poached and were very cold, two other diners at our table had cold eggs also but will not want to say anything. My friend was looking for a restaurant that serves bottomless mimosas for brunch and we came across this one. $15 on top of an entree for bottomless mimosas. I'm not a fan of mimosas but they had the best espresso martini I've ever had. We ordered the crab cake benedict was delicious and the chicken and waffle. The crab cake was recommended by our server so I got that. She was friendly and all the food she recommended was a hit. I'd definitely be back for that espresso martini. read more

Friday night to celebrate a birthday. We were seated promptly for our dinner reservations. We both loved our drinks and meals. The Land Ocean consisted of filet mignon and lobster that were both prepared perfectly. I also loved the buttery mashed potatoes topped with bacon that accompanied it. The ahi tuna salad was light and refreshing, but had a hint of too much wasabi. Despite the restaurant being packed, service was still excellent. read more
