This place is AMAZING!! So much fun everywhere you look, from vintage treasures to quirky art pieces, much of which is for sale, but much of which is only to admire wistfully... We visited while showing our Kansan friends the Joshua Tree area, and were fortunate enough to visit the salon owner/ museum curator. We didn't get our hair done, but I feel like a cut there will be in my future... It's almost overwhelming trying to explain everything you might see, so I'm actually going to keep it vague: just be prepared for a delightful and humorous walk through memory lane-- maybe memories of your grandma's house, or maybe your own childhood! A beauty salon museum? I knew I had to investigate. This quirky and cute beauty salon is owned by Jeff Hafler who is a working stylist. Part of the museum features over 3000 vintage displays dating back to the 1940's with hairdryers, posters and advertisements, mannequins with all kinds of unique curlers, a one person sauna that looks like it came from the 1950's and many vintage dolls like Farrah Fawcett. The dolls have been well preserved and still in their boxes. Jeff has been collecting these items he told me for over 19 years. The rest of the salon is working. You can make an appointment for all hair services here and be surrounded by all this nostalgia. Outside in the back of the salon I found all these 1960 hair dryers. It was just wild seeing all these historical hair tools. I had so much fun touring around this museum and talking with Jeff. Vibe is well worth a stop just to step back in time and enjoy a giggle. read more

I went for some highlights and she completely fried my hair my hair is coming out in chunks and it is irreversible damage done. The raddest and most charming salon I ever saw! Not only is Beauty Bubble the most impressively curated of vintage hair memorabilia I've ever encountered, it's also a fantastic place to get a haircut. The owner Jeff and his staff are fun and so sweet. I've been getting my curly hair cut by Ariel for about 7 months now and she's done a great job every time from Day 1 (which has too often not been the case at non-Ouidad salons I've tried in the past). I love the price, the rad surroundings, the location right in downtown JTree, and everything about this salon. They even have a sweet little vintage shop in the front where I've scored a few great finds. I called for an appointment & was given two hairstylists names and numbers. Both were called and texted. The first hairstylist never even answered my calls or texts. The second hairstylist finally texted me back after four days & needed a picture of my hair, which I sent. I gave her the date & time of the cut & color I needed before my vacation. Three more days went by and she texted wanting to change the date & time, after I told her my preference of dates. I will not be going to this establishment or referring them to the public, obviously they don't need business. read more

Quite some time ago, sorry for delay in reviewing, I called for a haircut. My hair had grown quite long and it was time to take many inches away. Anyway, the phone was answered by a young lady, I think her name was Ariel, or something similar. I made an appointment with her and when I showed, I found her to be quite real and pleasant. The salon was really pretty cool with hair styling equipment from the past 50 years or more; most belonging to the owner...what a really unique and fun place. Ariel listed to what I wanted and took her time to be sure her cut was really good; I was pleased and hope she is still there! I definitely recommend. Funky, bouncing with color, playful, and fabulous! From the greeting to the little details this wall-to-floor fully covered gathering of hair nostalgia is a delight. This lady has an obsession with un-curated collections, the kind where there are so many objects that you feel immersed in the silliness of it, making this a fun thing to stumble upon in Joshua Tree! It's a quick, free, cute little walk-a-around. Highlights were the wig/hat situations made of colorful hair products, with a couch for posing for photos, and the wild examples of what the old curler contraptions looked like! I was lucky to have been able to visit this Hair Salon/ Museum. I made it in just before closing. The owner was just fabulous. I had ran a you tube video about places visit in and near joshua tree. It is truly amazing to see how many vintage items he has in this salon/museum. He let me browse the salon/museum he never made me feel he was in a hurry, friendly , we discussed how his salon ended up being a museum also. I took plenty photos and videos of this amazing place that every I one needs to see if ever in the area. Especially women I mean he has a very unique gun that is a blow dryer. Ever inch of this establishment has a unique display of some sort. Now let's talk about the salon part of it well there is an area past the front of store as you step down into another area old fashion chairs are available to sit if you come make an appointment and get your hair cut. My husband and I stopped by here while we were in town sightseeing. As a hairstylist it was a must for me and a genuine interest for him. We stopped on a Friday which is a good day if you want to take your time and take it all in, as I believe it's the only day they don't take clients for hair. Morgan was amazingly kind in telling us the story of the amazing collection and spoke very very highly of the owner and his heart of gold. In fact, she said over and over that he possesses a "Midas Touch," and I would agree considering how "golden" this sight was to behold. I will definitely be back on a day when clients are in just so I can meet the owner and applaud him on all the awesome curating he has done. Well done and such an interesting experience. I was next door at the world famous crochet museum. After I had seen all there was to see about crochet and local art, I was headed back to my car. Suddenly, a random passerby exited this place, pointed to this place and said "Hey! This place is awesome...and free! Check it out!" So, I opened the door and poked my head inside. "Hello?" Inside is a hair salon. I confusedly stepped the rest of the way in and took a look around the entryway. Hair Salon. A woman was chit-chatting and snipping the hair of another woman in a barbers chair. A second cute lady who wasn't cutting hair welcomed me and said hello. Bewildered, and a bit flustered, I asked about the museum part of the hair salon. Cute lady gestured to an artifact on the wall and said "Museum." She then led me around the small place pointing out the assorted artifacts and historical hair-care stuff. Some of the stuff seemed downright barbaric compared to today's pain free and simple hair care items. Hair Curlers and um..flat irons? That were warmed up by being placed in a fireplace or over a stove. There was an old permanent machine that looked like it had come from a Lovecraftian horror novel. Tentacles of electric warmers and curlers grasping down from a circular body. A thick cable reaching up from there into the ceiling. They also had a Flobee. That's some downright scary stuff. Had I needed a haircut, I would have happily sat down in cute lady's empty chair. But alas, I don't have quite as much hair as I once did. I thanked cute lady and promised her I'd be back when my hair had eventually reached hair-cut length. So if you're in the area, definitely check out this hidden gem. I'm super glad that random guy told me to check this place out. Because it's neat. And the people are nice. read more

It's a great place to get your haircut, and Jeff Hafler, the owner, has the most amazing collection of beauty memorbabilia ever. The salon is packed full of the most wonderful vintage things that are in any way connected to hair, dating all the way back to a kerosene-heated curling iron from before the turn of the century. Jeff is amazing! The Beauty Bubble is amazing in it's current and fully fledged incarnation! Jeff has done my hair for a little over two years now, party colors, asymmetrical, standard cut, whatever I want. He is always welcoming to people who just want to come and seem the shop, and it has been a joy to see his business grow, and watch him become an international celebrity. Being a two person shop, think ahead about your appointment. They are running from morning until night, and even the locals know to schedule at least a week in advance! However, when you get to sit in the chair, you will have one of the most fun hair experiences EVER! It is eclectic and entertaining, and true to the desert, we march a little differently out here. I had my first hair appointment at the Beauty Bubble yesterday, and it was an awesome positive experience! I had been going down to Palm Springs previously, but the 60 mile ride round trip was becoming too much. Emily Hunter is the best hair stylist for my goals. I met Emily about 5 months ago. She then worked at a salon in Palm Springs, but recently found an opportunity to work in Joshua Tree. So, I explained to her how I wanted my hair considerably longer than it had been in the past. Emily assured me that in time, my goal will be achieved. She did a beautiful job of shaping my hair yesterday. I am going back in 6 weeks. Emily knows her stuff, and is pleasantly engaging. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the hsircut. I called first thing in the morning to see if walk-ins were available but was told I need to make an appointment. So I asked if anything was available today. The reply was that "she want in yet" so the person (a woman) didn't know. This struck me as odd that a person answering the phone wouldn't have a scheduled but she then asked for my name number and she would call back to let me know. Well, by 4pm I hadn't heard anything so I called back and was told that nobody seemed to know about my earlier call! Great (not) service. I was told that the next appointment time was next Thursday. Since I'm in town for the next two days that was of no help at all. Too bad you didn't call earlier so I could look somewhere else.
